“But that’s crazy.”
“True. But love rarely goes hand in hand with logic, does it?”
“Did I do okay?” He scoffs, reaching for my hip to pull me close.
“No, you didn’t.” My stomach swoops with dread, but then he laughs. “You didn’t even say hello to me.”

“I screwed up again.”
The admission only serves to add a shuddering breath to my waterworks.
“Oh, El. Come here.” He pulls me up and settles me on his lap, tucking my head under his chin. “I’m so sorry I hurt you . . . again.”

“Scott,” I whimper. “Come on.” I push at his shoulders, desperately wanting him to at least undress.
His thigh flexes again and I moan loudly, tremors reaching all the way to my toes. “Come on what, Opal? Huh?”
God, he loves to taunt me when I’m like this. I know he gets off on controlling when and how often I come.

He pushes the hair back from my face before he leans in to kiss the corner of my mouth. “I need you with me.” His hand settles at my throat, his callused thumb stroking my jaw possessively.

"...I’m not the enemy, Scott. I’m the person you’re supposed to lean on when life sucks."
We’re going to have to work for every second of our happiness.
“But even if we’re completely wrong for each other, I love him. And he loves me. Scott accepts me and my flaws, and I do the same for him. And we don’t need your permission or your approval to live our life.”
“When we get overwhelmed, I get weepy and you get mad.”
“I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but I am saying that we need to learn how to deal with the crying and the anger without hurting each other.”
"Because I'm not the enemy, Scott. I'm the person you're supposed to lean on when life sucks." He grimaces. "Leaning is one things, El, but I don't want to crush you with all my bullshit [. . .]"
"Well, your bullshit is now our bullshit."
“I know. But if we’re going to share our lives together, I want to be your anchor, not your whipping post.”
I’ve never been sure of who I am; whether it was the high-school rebel, or the perfect college girlfriend, or the too shiny party-girl, I’ve never been comfortable in my own skin – until now. And I know that’s not because of Scott . . . but because he’s given me a place at his side where I’m able to breathe freely.
“Can I call you Mom?”
“If that’s what you want, I’d be honored.”
“Me too?” Rosa squawks from Ellie’s lap, turning to face her.
“Me too, right Ellie?”

you may be on my last nerve but i still love you boo
“I’m tougher than I look, Scott. I would hold up the world for you.”
I’m a fool. And I’ve done it again. I lashed out at El for no other reason than she was there. I don’t even bother to fight the shame that fills the void left by my dwindling outrage.
“I don’t need you to take the brunt of everything life has to throw at us, Scott. I’m here to stand beside you, not behind you. I want us to be equals in this.”
“I want it to be official. I want the whole world to know how much I love you, that I’d do anything to keep you safe. Tell me that you’ll marry me, El.”

“You paid the caterer to call her ma’am, didn’t you?”
“Maybe.”
'It’s a funny thing love, how it ransacks your soul, looking for those emotions that normally just simmer and brings them to a full boil.'The Here and Now is THE perfect conclusion to Ellie and Scott's story! I loved how their relationship developed and how they conquered their problems together and most of all, I loved the girls!
'And Scott and I? Things have been good. So good. Not exactly smooth sailing, but nothing like our bigger bumps in the road. We’re learning the ins and outs of each other’s personality.'Like in the first book, I loved that the characters actually talk to each other and although there is some drama in the story it does feel realistic and the love between Ellie and Scott is just epic.

I was so happy when I saw that the author has a few more books in the series planned and I really hope that we will meet the girls again in these books ;)
