Abandoned, lost, neglected? There’s always a home at Animal Magic!
In a perfect world there’d be no need for Animal Magic Rescue Centre. But Eva and Karl Harrison, who live at the centre with their parents, know that life isn’t perfect. Every day there’s a new arrival in need of their help.
When Eva finds Honey, a beautiful golden retriever puppy, dumped on the doorstep of Animal Magic, she’s desperate to find the lovable young dog a new home. But Karl has other ideas … he thinks he might have uncovered a clue leading to Honey's real owner!
Heart-warming animal stories, perfect for fans of Holly Webb and Magical Animal Friends.
The Unwanted Puppy is a very sweet and quite enjoyable animal-loving tale. I have already read the second book of the series which was also great and i will definitely keep on reading the the rest of the books if not for any other reason then just for the realistic writing.
When an unwanted little puppy is found abandoned in a box right outside the Animal Magic Rescue Center, Eva will fall in love with it, wanting to keep it or at least find the perfect home for it whereas Karl, being more mature, will try to solve the mystery. Something is not sitting well with him, so he simply must try and find the previous owners.
While the moral teaching revolves around the fact that things aren't always as they seem, the book also gives a chance to kids of all ages to solve a cute little 'mystery' but at the same time it never forgets its core theme, the animals. Although the book might be a bit monotonous at points, still i had a good time reading it and i can never express enough how happy it makes me that books like this one are so pro-active and animal friendly, teaching children valuable lessons and trying to make our world a little bit better.
It establishes everything quickly from the main characters, to the animals and to the villains. There are a few story threads without ever seeming confusing to a reader of any age. Animal story books are not uncommon but this could be an indication that this series involves some of the better ones.
I have read a few of the books in the Animal Rescue series and I am quite impressed with them. They are great books for beginning chapter reader whether boys or girls. Animal Magic is a family run Animal Rescue Centre. Ella and Caleb help their mom who is a vet, run the centre. Caleb puts the animals pictures and descriptions on the website trying to find them a forever home. In this story, Ella finds a lab puppy left in a box just outside the gate of the Rescue Centre. Caleb finds clues on the box to help determine who dropped the puppy off. For some reason, he is sure that the owner wants the puppy back. They find out who the possible owner is and set out to see if she really meant to drop her puppy off at Animal Magic. The family in the book are wonderful characters. They care about the animals and do whatever they can to find them new "Forever Homes". Read about the Harrison family and Animal Magic. These books will entertain as well as teach the readers about animal rescues. The illustrations are black and white drawings but are cute and add just enough to the story while keeping it age appropriate. A great book for school and classroom libraries as well as for a gift for that beginning reader who loves animals. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
This short tale is perfect for young animal lovers. Eva Harrison lives at Animal Magic, a rescue centre that’s run by her parents. She spends her days walking abandoned dogs and cuddling homeless kittens. Her older brother, Karl, helps out too, while also running the Animal Magic website.
But all is not well in the Animal Magic world, largely thanks to their next door neighbour who wants to get them shut down. However, even with that threat hanging over them all, there are still plenty of animals that need the Harrison family’s help.
Like Honey, a cute little puppy who turns up in a box. Karl is determined to track down the owners and find out what happened, while Eva just wants to find Honey a perfect forever home. Karl thinks there’s more to the story than meets the eye, while Eva just thinks Honey’s owners are horrible. But which one of them is right? And can they match Honey up to the perfect people?
With a little mystery, a touch of trouble, a few lovely illustrations and lots and lots of animal antics, this is a fun, quick read for pet lovers everywhere. It also kicks off the series in fun style. I look forward to seeing what animals the Harrison family help next.

The Unwanted Puppy is the second of the Animal Rescue Centre books that I've read with my cubs, and we seem to have read them out of order! This book comes before The Injured Fox Kit, and so we got to see the beginning of a certain conflict.
Ella discovers a sealed cardboard box on the sidewalk in front of Animal Magic. The box has airholes. Concerned about what may have been abandoned, Ella carefully opens the flaps to reveal a scared retriever puppy. A sign on the box says her name is Honey. Ella and her brother Caleb bring pup and box inside. Wanting to find who dropped Honey off and why, Caleb uses information gleaned from the box and finds her former home. Will Caleb’s detective work pay off, or will Honey need a new home. Meanwhile, Animal Magic’s neighbours have decided to launch a petition of closure. More than just Honey may need a new home, and fast!
My cubs and I really liked this installment the Animal Rescue series. The story and artwork were awesome, and the underlying message was heart-warming. It's really nice to see that they're not just there for the animals. Caleb went above and beyond in investigating Honey’s case, and once Ella was on-board too, it really paid off. Honey's story was so sad! We were all relieved at the solution. It just goes to show the value of dogged persistence in the face of apparent indifference. As mentioned before, this book is first in a series. Fox Kit comes after, if you want to stay in order. We accidentally read them out of order.
This was a delightful Children’s book. The story is family oriented and cheerful. I enjoyed reading this book.
Ella’s family runs the Animal Magic Rescue Center. Ella and her brother, Caleb help by walking the dogs, and petting all of the animals of course!
When a 3 month old Golden Retriever puppy is abandoned outside Animal Magic Rescue Center, Ella is upset. Who could do that to such a cute puppy? Ella is determined to find the answer to her question.
The book should be a favorite of children ages 9 and up. The story is easy for children to follow, full of adventure to keep them excited. I liked that the story had a bit of a “mystery” for children reading the book to help solve.
Younger children would love having this book read to them at story time, or bedtime. It’s a great book.
I received the book free in exchange for an honest review. That does not effect my opinion or rating of the book.
Review will be posted on amazon, goodreads, netgalley and Moonshineartspot.blogspot.com
Ella and Caleb Harrison love helping their mother at her animal rescue center, and when Ella finds a golden retriever puppy in a box outside the place, they are determined to find out who left it there as well as finding it a new home. What they uncover when they began their investigation surprises them, but everything turns out well in the end. I liked how the story also includes different issues such as a neighbor who dislikes having a rescue area nearby due to the noise and traffic it causes as well as describing how quickly Ella becomes attached to the animals that come into the center. The book has a great message about compassion and responsibility and might remind readers to keep an eye on their own pets and who they get to take care of them when they're away from home.
This was quite a sweet book to read, there was a good moral to the story and I was pleased with the ending, I find that these books flow very well, the images used are great and the story is easy to follow for younger ones. A nice and pleasant story, looking forward to more in this series.
