This is my first Baileigh Higgins series and I find myself enjoying her take on the zombie apocalypse. Let's face it. Most zombie apocalypse narratives run similarly, and what generally differentiates them is the characters.

Here, in Book 2 of the Rise of the Undead series, the characters have me returning to ascertain whether or not they will survive. Because it is part of a series, I do not recommend reading this as a stand-alone novel because you would lose the nuances of characterization and the story arcs that change them.

Dr. Tara Lee has discovered a cure for the Vita virus and has experienced successes. Yet, when Fort Knox gets overrun, she along with Amy, Alex, Dylan, and Saul must flee to a secondary site. Well, the secondary site may not be as secure as first believed and so they must improvise, adapt, and overcome. It doesn't help that the group has split up. Ugh! The horror is real with some very good descriptions of blood and gore.

There is pathos, and the potential for a relationship between Dr. Lee and Saul. Dylan is still an uncertainty and Amy and Alex fill me with some trepidation. How long can big brother hope to protect his little sister in an apocalypse? So far, I'm enjoying the read, but I know some unexpected kicks to the crotch are coming. There always are. (Apologies for the crass nature of my metaphors.)

The folks in this book are incredbly bizzare! So many unncessary errors and bad choices... for people smart enough they're surviving a zombie apocalypse they sure are a daft bunch.

The writing is so bad and the narration is cringy. It's like a bad soap opera, you cannot stop watching.

I’m really enjoying this series and have already begun the 3rd book. Dylan is great, Alex is great, and I’m really loving the pining romance between Tara and Saul.

I have a few really minor issues, in my opinion, that has knocked a star off for me. I’m not sure Baileigh did research on Fort Knox 😂 how it’s described in the book is definitely not what it looks like irl unless I’m thinking of a different one. I’m also getting really annoyed with Amy. She flips between acting like a 16 year old, 12 year old, and 14 year old. I’m so lost in the timeline of this apocalypse. It seems like it’s only been a few weeks but people are talking like it’s been months since the apocalypse started. And maybe that’s just the slow progression of the virus but it just feels like the world is at least a year into all our chaos apocalypse rather than a few months of slow progression.

These are things I personally can ignore, and I’m already reading book 3 and plan to continue the series!

Good story, sometimes character expositions in the wrong spots takes you out of the story.

I like the story so far. The book is fast-paced and enjoyable. I Believe that Dylan’s potential has not been achieved as of yet. She needs to become the kick butt heroin that is needed in the series. Her potential has been alluded to in certain parts of the series, it needs to be progressed. Amy is the weakest character so far she could stay or go doesn’t matter to me. Saul has the most potential to grow and train the rest of the team. This is a well rounded and well developed diverse group of characters some of them need to be expanded upon. If you like this type of series you’ll enjoy this book. Going on to read the next book to see if it rates a five star rating.

So far I am loving this series, it is pretty fast paced and I am liking the characters. Tara isn't my favorite but all around they are a good bunch. This is the 2nd book and as it continues from the first book, the group is trying to find a safe place , so that tara can try to get the "cure" vaccine done. There are some obstacles in the way, zombies and human a alike. Great read for zombie lovers. The characters do have their flaws but overall I really enjoy reading. I started the 3rd book already.

Few writers do the Apocalypse as good a Baileigh Higgins. Book 2 is exciting with plenty of action and lots of zombies. This book is centered on finding the "Cure", and no place is really safe as you will find out as the book goes on. You will also get more involved in the characters and learn their stories.
I can only recommend that you get into this series at the start as it is going to be a great series.

Another great read

I love the whole premise of this series so far, protecting the cure... the group of Alex, Amy, Dylan and Tara and Saul are a great to follow. I like how the story is told from each person's point of view. Sometimes it gets to be a bit one sided to just have the main character's point of view.
I do feel like Amy's character was a bit wimpy this book and that Dylan's wasn't as strong.
But overall enjoyed it a lot and on to #3!

Wow , what a ride. The adventures just continue to get better and better. Sometimes when authors write more than one story line at a time things get a little bit lost in switching back in forth , Baileigh Higgins though has the ability to take multiple story lines and make all of them chaotic at the same time yet you dont get lost. I am fast becoming a extreme fan of hers .. I cant wait to see what happens next.

This is book 2 of the 7 book series and just like book 1, it moves at a very swift pace. In this book we’re introduced to some new characters that serve very specific purposes and characters from book 1 are brought back into the series.

Lots of action. Lots of emotion as you live the apocalypse through the people in this series that you root for and admire each in their own way.

The question remains - can the doctor really find/make a cure that will work?

I loved this book, it was action packed, a real emotional roller coaster. There's no let up in the drama, as Dillon and her friends continue to face many enemies, live and dead. I can't wait to start book 3, to see whats next, the narration is great. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

(I have the omnibus edition) Book two of this series sees further battles on more than one front. I liked how the story came together by using the numerous characters – some good, some not so good. The writing flows nicely, while the action and suspense kept me guessing.

Loved it and highly recommended.

Characterization

We see more of the countryside that was devastated from this disease. We also see that there is more going on with Dylan. I’m glad that Alex and Amy are getting help. I hope Tara can save the world.

Love this author!

Zombie series with a twist. This time if you are bitten there is a cure if you can get it in less than 48 hours. Follow new friends as they try to survive the apocalypse. Must read!

This one is a nail biter!

So, our group survived and mad it to safety. But they decide to split up and go separate ways...not a good move. The action continues at a fast pace. Looking forward to the next book.

After reading book 1 I read this as a follow on. Another easy read with interesting characters and a story that doesn’t really require much thought which suits me at the moment. I have read some criticisms of this book being that the characters are too intelligent to make such errors, but who knows what decisions would be made in such circumstances.
Enjoyable read
