Boyfriend Material #3

One Night Stand-In

Rate this book
Lucas Xavier is the last person I want to spend 24 hours with, let alone two minutes. Exes are exes for a reason. In his case, for a million reasons. Because he's not only an ex-lover, he's also an ex-friend. We didn't just break up - we combusted in a spectacular bonfire of barbs and doors slammed.

Nothing will change that. Not his clever wit, not his ridiculous good looks, not his unfair levels of charm. And definitely not a wild dash through the city that takes us on an accidental scavenger hunt through our past, where we stop for a tango lesson, pancakes and a visit with some llamas.

And certainly not time together to make amends and say we're sorry.

But, let's say that was enough...it's not like you can fall in love in 24 hours.

One Night Stand-In is a Boyfriend Material series standalone! Three best friends. Three outrageous proposals. Three chances to fall in ove. Three brand new standalones from Lauren Blakely!

I liked One Night Stand-In...

I wish that One Night Stand-In had lived up to my extremely high expectations. Unfortunately, Lola was a little lacklustre. She's so sassy, opinionated and sensual in the previous instalments, that I just expected her to carry it through to her own. While there was initially a little sass, it soon led to a much more vulnerable and I would even go so far as to say, timid, Lola. Sure, she could strip off her clothes like the sexiest woman around, but in the end, she didn't 'own it' enough to demand what she really wanted.

I know, I'm harsh. It's just that I expected her confidence, originality and ambition to jump off the pages. It just didn't.

I liked Lucas and thought he was a pretty great bloke.

I didn't like that Lucas and Lola enabled their siblings. By the age of 25, those two should have been completely self-sufficient and they just weren't.

It was a Lauren Blakely so it was still pretty damn good, just not what I was expecting. I will definitely be reading/listening to more of this authors work in the future. It's just so easy to do.

I don't always vibe with second chance romance tropes, depending on how it's done. I really liked how this was done 🤭

This was a fun and quick romcom. It had many of my favorite tropes, including second chance, friends/enemies to lovers, and some forced proximity. Lauren Blakely always does a wonderful job pulling on your heart strings, while also bringing all the laughs and heat. Lucas and Lola have history together and what could have been an amazing start to something more ended up crashing and burning thanks to egos and youth. Now it's nearly 10 years later and a clever scavenger hunt throws them together again. I loved seeing the sparks fly between them, but also their walls come crashing down. They had sizzling chemistry and it was refreshing to have both characters be so open about their sexuality, wants, and desires. The misunderstanding that ruined their friendship was fairly minor in my eyes, but I can understand how it wouldn't be to a 21 year old. The clues and scavenger hunt were a fun twist to the story and kept the action going, but I did feel that things stalled a bit after Lola and Lucas decided to be friends again. Overall, this was an enjoyable romcom and I loved the appearances by the previous couples/heroines.

Book 3 in the Boyfriend Material series and it was just as good as the other 2. I loved this story so much. This story was all my favorite tropes rolled into one: second chance and friends to lovers which became enemies to lovers. Lucas and Lola were so good together. The chemistry and attraction between them was still there all these years later and it was still was off the charts hot. Fun read that will keep you laughing as only Lauren Blakely’s stories can do. Highly recommend it.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

There is no one Lola wants to spend the day with less than Lucas. They were once best friends, but haven’t been on friendly terms in a very long time. If not for their younger siblings’ relationship they probably wouldn’t have to see each other ever again. But this time, their siblings need their help and neither are willing to stand by when they can help out, even if it means spending time together. The scavenger hunt they have to participate in to collect Luna and Rowan’s belongings would have been tough enough for the pair actually involved in the events, but because Lola and Lucas weren’t actually there for most of the events, it’s a bit of a guessing game to figure out where the items might be hidden.

This was a lighthearted, fun affair from the very beginning. They have a history that both have avoided dealing with in the years since college. But they also had a strong friendship before their falling out that causes them to miss the other, even as they remember the hurt that drove them apart. Being forced together to find Luna and Rowan’s belongings makes them face the events that put the distance between them, especially as it becomes clear that they still have so much in common.

I loved the side characters, both those directly involved in the action and those on the periphery. The role they play in pushing these two former friends back together added the piece that this story needed to make it truly unique.

Out of a number of memorable, binge-worthy series, Boyfriend Material is probably my favorite Lauren Blakely series to date. Not only is it set in a world that any bookworm is familiar with (aka the book publishing industry), thus including all sorts of fun bookish jargon and the like, but it’s centered around a trio of tight-knit friends as they each find their happy endings. After devouring a workplace romance and a friends-to-lovers romance, I was more than ready to dive into my personal favorite: a second chance romance. Throw in a heated rivalry, snarky banter, and an adventure-filled scavenger hunt, and you have an unforgettable rom-com with One Night Stand-In.

After a close friendship and budding romance between Lucas Xavier and Lola Dumont crashed and burned during their college years, the two rival graphic designers aren't exactly on good terms. The bad blood between them doesn't erase their lingering feelings, or so they discover when they're tasked with retrieving their siblings' belongings in an elaborate scavenger hunt arranged by a beleaguered landlord. Nostalgia and chemistry make a potent combination, stirring the embers of attraction between Lola and Lucas as they venture across New York City, arguing and flirting and getting reacquainted with each other over the course of two days.

Fast-paced and jam-packed with action and adventure, One Night Stand-In is a fun, entertaining, lighthearted read. What hits you right in the feels is the slow-burning, swoon-worthy romance between Lucas and Lola. After their first attempt at romance resulted in confusion and heartache, both are gun-shy and wary of making themselves vulnerable to the possibility of love. They grapple with crossing the line between friendship and something more - a process that evokes a whirlwind of emotions and heightens the sexual tension crackling between them.

If you’re in the mood for a rom-com that’ll have you grinning from ear to ear and swooning nonstop, One Night Stand-In is an instant favorite! As a huge fan of second chance romances, this book kept me riveted from start to finish and satisfied the hopeless romantic in me. Once again, Lauren Blakely has delivered another must-read romance!

He broke her heart in college by standing her up, she broke his by not allowing him to apologize and though they agreed to remain friends they became rivals and enemies instead until one crazy night driven to help their siblings they are thrown back together and old feelings resurface. A witty spin on the rom com that is delightfully told with excellent narration! Definitely worth the listen!

This was a nice dip back into Lauren Blakely's writing. I have read many books and many different romance sub-genres since my last book by this author. But reading this one brought me back to what I like about her.

The characters were well developed and likable. Even if I liked one more than another. The overall plot was interesting and had me intrigued even from reading the blurb. And the story itself did not disappoint.

I in particular loved Lucas. I liked that he was more than what he seemed. I liked the adventure that was presented to the main characters to help bring them back together. I do feel that the issues of their past were a big case of lack of communication which was kind of a bummer. I usually prefer when the issues at hand are a bit more complex than that. But this one was still so well done that part could almost be dismissed.

I would definitely recommend this one.

Reading a Lauren Blakely book is like comfort food. You just know you’re going to love it and feel so good when finished. The One Night-Stand In is her latest release and features two best friends–to enemies–to friends–to lovers, one of my favorite romance tropes!

In this romance, we visit the past when we learn that Lucas Xavier and his former beautiful BFF, Lola DuMont, shared one passionate kiss with hopes of more when they were in college. The story shifts from the past and into the present and you will learn how an unfortunate misunderstanding led to two crushed hearts who meet up a decade later to help their siblings. His brother and her sister, whom happen to be in love and on vacation, had their personal items purposely left all over town by a funny, clever, and ultimately vindictive landlord. SO FUNNY! So Lucas and Lola have no choice but to help their siblings retrieve their items one at a time, all in under 24 hours, as they work together to decipher clue after clue as to their whereabouts.

This is where the joy of Lauren’s writing comes in. No two stories are ever alike, and this story is as engaging, witty, and original as I have come to expect. I am never disappointed and know that I will adore her characters. Lola depends on her girlfriends, Peyton and Amy who were featured in the previous two Boyfriend Material books in this series, to help her navigate her burning desire to be with her sworn enemy who after just one smile, is making her feel again.

Lucas of course is not the enemy, he’s her everything, and I just adored how humble he was when trying to make things right. They both had so much in common including both being graphic artists, and their easy banter and honest communication gave me all the feels. These two were so in-sync and had me smiling ear to ear the whole time as they tried to complete the task of the scavenger hunt, plus get to know each other as adults.

Old flames never die as is evident in the One Night Stand-In because Lucas and Lola were HOT, HOT, HOT! He was so swoony and sweet to her...I melted more than once very much liking a grown up Lucas. I highly recommend you read their journey of self-discovery, and how they found their way back to their one true love.

As soon as I read the premise of Lauren Blakely’s newest release One Night Stand-In, I was more than intrigued to see how everything would play out in the 24 hour timeframe she placed her characters in while also providing key insights into the hero and heroine’s shared past.

Lucas Xavier and Lola DuMont were once the best of friends, but ten years later, they’re business rivals and more enemies than even acquaintances mostly due to a misunderstanding after one passionate kiss in college.

Fast forward to their siblings’ need for assistance and Lucas and Lola find themselves forced to work together on quite the unorthodox scavenger hunt, requiring them to either let go of their past and move forward or continue to hold onto the hurt feelings and what ifs.

Second chance romances are one of my favorite types of reads, and I really enjoyed how Blakely laid out the plot line, giving her main characters an opportunity for a second chance that wouldn’t have happened without Rowan and Lulu’s crazy landlord. It’s clear that Lucas and Lola have things to sort out and honest confessions to make, but what’s also obvious is the connection and chemistry that’s still between them, and it’s that bond that starts to click back into place as they hunt down all of their siblings’ belongings, realizing that this time around, everything can be different, as long as they say what they feel and act on it.

This was a fun, quick read! I finished it in 2 days and enjoyed it!

Lola and Lucas were a really fun couple. I liked that they settled their issues like adults and they didn’t harp on them. Both admitted their faults in the situation and moved on. I loved their banter after the fact and their chemistry was off the charts entertaining!

The story itself flowed really well and, as usual, it was really well written. I loved the concept as I haven’t read anything like it in the past.

Overall, I recommend this book if you’re looking for something fun, entertaining, and quick. It’s definitely a Lauren Blakely book! You won’t regret reading it!

Lucas and Lola were college friends, best friends until the night they went a little further. They were meant to go out on a date the next night, but Lucas was detained and when he returned, words were said and not the ones they wanted to hear. They were meant to go back to being friends but both were hurt and they became enemies. Fast forward ten years and they have to spend 24 hours together collecting his brothers, her sisters belongings that have be placed like a treasure hunt across the city. Or is it just a wild goose chase?

What a fun book! There are light moments of pure LB banter but also more deeper moments with this couple falling for each other all over again. It’s a classic second chance romance with plenty of wit. I loved their family commitment to their sibling. Each of them had reasons why they will also look out for their brother / sister. It was fun reading all the little escapades they did together and realizing what was most important. There’s a small twist to the story that I adored how it played out. And lastly, the epilogue closes of this series and gave me a complete HEA.

Who doesn’t love a second chance romance? I loved the storyline for this one. It was sweet and so cool and different. I think that is why I love Lauren’s books so much she give us a fresh spin and story with every book. They never feel like the same story. I always look forward to listening to her stories. They make me feel all the feels and I smile and get that awe feeling I get when I watch a great romance movie.

I wish more authors gave us unique story lines like she does.

And her narrators are fantastic; they really bring you into the story. Like you’re seeing it plays behind your eyes.

One Night Stand-In is the third and final book in the Boyfriend Material series. It’s a series of interconnected standalones. It follows three best girl friends. This one is about Lola, who we’ve seen in all the other books. She always seemed the most together and nothing could rattle her, so I was excited to read her book. Her story is a second chance romance with her reconnecting with a college ex. This book picks up years later, when their siblings, who are now dating, send the two of them around town to pick up their belongings in a 24-hour timeframe, in a very bizarre turn of events. I will say the setup of this was weird, and while it was explained well, it was still just odd. I also felt like the story moved really fast. I wanted just a little more buildup. But, the characters were really easy to love, and it was refreshing how these two did not play any games. They acted like adults: immediately owning up to their own mistakes from the past that led to their undoing. The epilogue was exactly what we wanted for the end of this series, with us catching up with our favorite couples from the other books. This was a great series, and I would highly recommend it.

I enjoyed reading about Lola and Lucas, the scavenger hunt part was really fun and the main thing that brought them back together. I loved how they shared their feelings even if it was hard for them, because of their experiences with their parents. But they had a wild attraction from moment one and helping their siblings was the perfect moment to move on with their past and be like they were when they first met.

Ex friends reuniting to go on a scavenger hunt to collect their siblings items all over town in only 24 hours in order to get their apartments security deposit. If that's doesn't sound like a mouthful of joy, I don't know what is!

Lola and Luca's were friends back in college and after one kiss that lead to more they knew they had something special. But with young love comes mistakes too and after a small one they stopped being friends all together, becoming somewhat enemies.

Now they have to come together to get all their siblings stuff in one day. Being thrown together like this wasn't the worst thing.

It was so much fun to see the flirty chemistry between Lola and Lucas. They had me smiling and laughing all throughout, as Lauren Blakely's humour always does.

The secondary characters from previous books played their parts in being great friends and helping move teh story along. Yet most of all I just loved the ease of the story. It flowed and kept you craving for these two stubborn minds to just be together.

A fantastic, light read if you're in the mood for a rom-com with some fun turns and a happily ever after!

If you haven't start with Asking For a Friend first but all books can be read as standalones!

So, LB is one of my favorite writers, hands down, but I think I'm in a phase where I'm just not that into her. I mean, technically, her stories are flawless. But, they seem to have become formulaic.

A quirky (typically white, although our hero in this one is Brazilian, but his culture is not significant to his character) couple overcomes some simple conflict. Nothing too significant. Then they fall for each other. In this story, I mostly skimmed the dialogue by the last several chapters. The "antagonist" was more interesting than the main characters. I mean, nobody is that "banter-y" IRL.

I'm sure I'll be intrigued by her writing again at some point.

The story wasn't bad. It was just typical.

Lucas and Lola are enlisted on a scavenger hunt to recover their siblings Rowan and Luna’s personal belongings or they forfeit their security rent deposit, during their absence.

Dashing through the city takes them on a quest reliving their past, stopping for a tango lesson, cheese stops, pancakes and a visit with llamas.

“Differentiating between a weekend and a day was never your strong suit.”
We hashed out this little was it a day, was it a weekend issue back when my lacrosse team captains decided to steal the team away for a weekend instead of an afternoon. The night before, turned into me asking, Can I take you to the department dinner on Saturday night? With delight in her pretty brown eyes, she’d said, I’d love to go with you. Then Saturday came, and my teammates showed up at my door and said they were taking us away for the afternoon for team bonding, no phones allowed. The afternoon turned out to be the whole weekend. The net result? Technically, I stood her up. I wasn’t able to make what would have been our first official date, and I’d had no way of reaching her.

Doesn’t matter that she’d waited in her dorm for their first date, all dressed up, ready to go to a department dinner, or that she’d attended alone. When he didn’t show up that night or the next, she was hurt, then angry. When he finally appeared at my door and rattled off the events of that weekend, detail by painstaking detail—the guys came by, blindfolded us, took us camping; it was fun, but still—I’d wound myself up too far to simply let down my guard and say, Hey, it happens. Lola said it was no big deal and that we were better off as friends anyway.

‘Fine, I’d said. It was just one night anyway”. She’d needed him to apologize. He’d affirmed her decision —It was just one night anyway, comment. Common courtesy should have been his priority to profusely apologise.

Temporarily dispensing with the personal attacks. “I actually passed a store in Soho the other day called This Little Piggy, and it sells all sorts of toe rings. Coral, platinum, and rose gold. They size your toes, measure them, and custom-make toe rings too. Alas, I’ve had to accept we live in a world with This Little Piggy”.

For purposes of consistency, the only This Little Piggy, was a sandwich and barbeque shoppe in the East Village in NY. That’s permanently closed.

Did you have a hot date you had to cancel?” Lucas ends the question with a saucy little sound, like he’s toying with me.
“Is he taking you to the mall? Or a fast-food restaurant?”
“No. A club. Dancing. I think I’ll wear something sexy. Maybe that shows a little midriff,” I say, teasing him too, because I know his weakness. His eyes always went a bit glossy when I wore short shirts.
“How does that sound?” I ask innocently.
His expression is stone-hard. “Don’t wear that.”
“No? Are you sure? It sounds like good clubbing attire.”
“A sweater is better.”
“That doesn’t sound like I can shimmy my hips easily in it.” I give a little sway for demonstration. He’s like a dog watching a piece of steak. “I think something nice and snug would do the trick on a white . . . hot . . . date.”
“I hear overalls are hip.” It sounds like he drank battery acid.
“Good idea. Overalls can be hot. Maybe I could get some overall shorts and just wear a teeny-tiny sports bra underneath.”

I don’t know how not to look out for Luna,” She harbours a great deal of resentment towards her parents. When she was sixteen and Luna was twelve, their parents separated But then they decided to go to therapy, and somehow they worked through their troubles. Except once they got back together, they ignored their kids. “My parents were all about themselves as a couple, justifying ignoring Luna because they needed to reconnect. I wanted to be the one who was there for her, since they weren’t.

I’m sorry, Lola.
“For what, Lucas?”
“There were a lot of things I didn’t handle well the night I came to your dorm.”
My heart speeds up. It’s pumping with anticipation. It’s the wish for resolution.
To truly put the past behind us.
To say the things we couldn’t say as two hotheaded twenty-one-year-olds.
“For starters, I shouldn’t have said that thing about it being only one night.
“I’m sorry too,”
“What are you sorry for?”
“I didn’t give you a real chance to explain, I was so upset”.
“I’m sorry, Lo. I felt like sh*t. I was so damn frustrated that I didn’t have a way to get in touch with you. And the guys, Jock pride and all. The captains basically said, ‘If anyone needs to call his mommy or daddy, do it now and do it on speakerphone.’ “In retrospect, I should have come to your dorm when the weekend was over and grovelled”.

One Night Stand-In (Boyfriend Material 3) and Your French Kisses (Boyfriend Material 3.5) by Lauren Blakely
Narrated by Andi Arndt, Jason Clarke, Sebastian York, Zachary Webber, Erin Mallon and Shane East
Each can stand alone.

Any reader of this blog knows that Lauren Blakely is my favorite audiobook author, and I have been loving the Boyfriend Material series, especially because it takes place in the literary world. Lauren takes typical romance tropes and makes them fresh, fun, sexy and smart. One Night Stand-In was a little different for Lauren.

The main action in One Night Stand-In took place over a 24 hour period, and we were along for the fun ride! We met Lola in the previous 2 books in the series, she was the friend that seemed to have her shit together. Back in college Lucas was her best friend, but there was always more between them. When they decided to explore the “more” and go out on their first date, Lucas was a no-show. Though it wasn’t really his fault, he never apologized, and Lola has held a grudge ever since.

Lucas and Lola’s flighty younger siblings are a couple, but they are away in Europe when their landlord decides to evict them and hold their security deposit unless they find all their stuff in 48 hours based on the clues he left. Since Lucas and Lola always bail their siblings out, they are forced together to figure out the clues and recover all of their siblings’ stuff.

Lucas and Lola are also book cover designers in a competition that has a deadline, so they only have 24 hours. What follows is a fast and funny 24 hour scavenger hunt around New York and the surrounding areas including an Alpaca farm!
“I’m not afraid of Alpacas.”
“Good, but those are Llamas.” I say.
“No, they’re alpacas.” He says pointing to the Alpacalypse sign.
“Nope.” I shake my head as I gesture to the long-faced animals. “Definitely llamas.”
“Then why does it say Alpacalypse?”
“Because the llamas are warning us about it.”

One Night Stand-In was fast moving, fun and sexy and I enjoyed every minute of the listen, but it was definitely a little sillier than most of Lauren’s books. Don’t get me wrong, I love silly and I had a great time, but I'm not sure I loved it as much as most of her other books, but then again, this Coronavirus could be affecting my feelings. I am glad that it was a bit longer than her average book because it moved so fast and I was really enjoying it.

Likes:

•Kept me smiling and giggling the whole time.
•Visiting with all the friends from previous books plus some bonuses.
•Super quick one sitting read despite it being longer than many of Lauren’s books.
•Very different than Lauren’s other books where she seems to take a popular romance trope and make it better. This was a fun change and very unique.
•Llamas!!! Alpacas!!
•Great banter.

Dislikes:

•A little sillier and more unrealistic than most of Lauren’s books.
•Their younger siblings need to grow the fuck up.
•Their reason for not talking for almost 10 years seems a little stupid.

Bonus Listen: Your French Kisses
“We’re a moment in time. A starburst. A spark against the sky that burns bright and fast.”

Sigh… I loved this so, so much! Reid and Marley met in France and spent an unforgettable chocolatey afternoon together. The connection was strong, but they didn’t share last names or how to contact each other because they would be in different countries. That connection doesn’t let up, and when they meet again years later in New York, it’s Kismet.

This novella was everything! Though it didn’t have Lauren’s HOT sex scenes, it didn’t need it. It was a wholly fulfilling and fun novella with fabulous narration!

The Narration:
OMG, Andi Arndt & Jason Clarke with Sebastian York, Zachary Webber, Erin Mallon and Shane East??? The narration was pure perfection and made it an even more fun listen.

The Down & Dirty:
Lauren Blakely is the queen of audiobooks and One Night Stand-In was such a fun listen! The fantastic narration combined with the non-stop fun of a 24 hour race around New York made for a unique and witty read. It was a little sillier than most of Lauren’s reads, and I liked the change of pace even though it wasn’t really my favorite.  The bonus novella, Your French Kisses was so wonderful! This whole series is great, and I highly recommend it.

Rating:
4 Stars for One Night Stand-In and 5 for Your French Kisses. I would say it's 4.25 total. 4 heat, 5 Narration.

“Who would have thought twenty-four hours would change everything?”

Luna and Rowan get kicked out of their apartment and their personal items are scattered around New York City by their landlord. They have 48hrs to collect their items if they want to get the security deposit back. There’s only one problem though, Luna and Rowan are on tour.

Enter Lola and Lucas, siblings of Luna and Rowan, respectively. Once upon a time, Lola and Lucas were best of friends and were headed towards more. Then things came to an abrupt halt and they couldn’t get their friendship back, becoming enemies instead. Now, they are thrown together on a crazy, over-the-top scavenger hunt that will bring suppressed feelings to the surface and make them face the past once and for all. So, hang on tight for a wild ride across New York City with Lola and Lucas in One Night Stand-In!

I can always count on Lauren Blakely to create an original rom com to love, and she has done it again. One Night Stand-In is an entertaining enemies-to-lovers, second chance romance that brings on the laughs, turns up the heat, and fills you with love. It’s all kinds of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the way the story unfolded. The scavenger hunt is original and the clues are creative. It is comical following Lola and Lucas around the city figuring out where all the items are hiding.

I loved that they are thrown together and forced to face the past. I desperately wanted to know what went down ten years earlier to crush their friendship, especially since Lola and Lucas are so fantastic together. The banter is gold and I found myself either smiling or laughing during every interaction. Reminiscing about the past brings up old feelings and I loved that they couldn’t run from them as they realize how good they were together as friends and how good they could be as more.
"Our friendship feels both familiar but also tender and new. Like, one false step and it blows up a second time.”

Add in their insane chemistry and sizzling sexual tension, and I knew they would give us smoking hot sexy times when they finally give into the inevitable. And they do not disappoint!

Overall, One Night Stand-In is a wonderful story of forgiveness, taking chances, and learning to love while being yourself and having fun. It is a solid hit and another 5-star addition to the Boyfriend material series! I loved it!
Right here, right now, I’m deciding to do love differently.
Love might be dangerous, but not loving is deadly.

This book is a journey for two people who were once college friends with possibilities, then rivals, and are now being enlisted to work together on a special project. This could be bad or maybe it could be good. But in twenty-four hours or less they will find out.

Lola Dumont is a successful graphic artist and book cover designer. She is just starting her own business as well as working with her friend, Amy at a publishing house. She is in charge, controlled, and organized. But she also is vibrant and has a bold streak.

Lucas Xavier is also a graphic artist and her competition at times. They were the best of friends just on the brink of something more when he let her down and their friendship was a casualty.

They are called in to do crisis management by their wilder, younger siblings who happen to be a couple. They need their older sibs to work together and gather some things they need but are unable to handle themselves. So Lola and Lucas's worlds are colliding again, but they are willing to do anything to help the younger ones. He is still charming, witty, and sexy as hell.

They both have unresolved emotions and regrets over their past. They had convinced themselves they hated the other. But it does not take long to realize how much of that anger and resentment is also mixed with hurt, disappointment, guilt, and loss. They have a better understanding now that they are more mature, but they also both have fear and anxiety over making mistakes again. And each of their pasts has also colored how they see relationships.

Can twenty-four hours change everything? Will they at least be able to end this adventure as friends this time? Or is there a possibility of finally taking that next step?

This is a quirky and entertaining scavenger hunt adventure that leads to reconnection, self-discovery, and facing the past. It is told in dual points of view and deals with responsibility, trust, vulnerability, friendship, unresolved feelings, and risk versus reward. I really loved both of these characters. They had a connection they had been denying while trying to live on the periphery and not making contact. But now that they have reconnected, the blinders are off.

The premise was fresh, unique, and a whole lot of fun. I enjoyed the side characters of their whimsical siblings, Luna and Rowen, friends Amy, Peyton, Marley, Reid, and the man who started it all.

Books like this are why Lauren Blakely is my favorite author. I was immediately invested in this story and couple. There were moments I laughed, moments I groaned (because I could relate to how these characters felt) and moments I just sighed. I loved every minute of it and couldn't resist reading it in one sitting.

One Night Stand-In gives us the story of Lucas and Lola. These two are set off an pesky scavenger hunt that turns into a perfect opportunity for them to reconnect and rediscover one another. I loved every moment of them working through their past and their present.

Lola is fierce, fiery and funny. She's someone I would want to be on my team; someone I'd want to have my back. I completely understand her relationship with her sister-and can applaud it. She's a strong woman who knows how to work hard. Watching her open herself up and let herself be vulnerable was a joy.

Lucas? Lucas made me smile. He's a little surly but hides a soft heart and I love that combo. I love his passion for making the world better, and I love his care for his brother. He had me shaking my head a couple times, but I absolutely loved him.

The way these two spark off each other is just brilliant. And it feels incredibly real. I believed in them 100% right from the start. They have sexy moments, scorching ones at that, but seeing them connect outside the bedroom and grow? Perfection. You can't help but root for them.

I loved the plot here-it was so much fun! It just moved and flowed. The supporting cast of characters, some of whom we've already met (and if you haven't read the other standalones in this series it's ok! But trust me, read them because they're awesome) just enhance this story. I'm sorry, but while Luna and Rowan made me shake my head...I know people like this exist and the Author's portrayal was spot on. I would happily live in this universe.

I also listened to the audio of this book-and if you're an audio fan you are in for a treat! These performances were incredible. I don't want to spoil any of them, so trust me, give them a listen. I could listen to Jason Clarke and Andi Arndt all day and the cameos by other narrators?? Pure gold.

This book left me with such a smile on my face. I loved the journey from start to finish. One Night Stand-In will make you laugh and fall in love, and what more can you want from a book? I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.

5 SMOOCHES!

There is so much I love about Lauren Blakely’s writing. Stellar storytelling, thorough character development, entertaining plots and romantic love stories that she threads together with keen attention to detail. For me, this always results in an unputdownable, wholly addictive reading experience. A rock-solid, never-let-me-down kind of author, Blakely is a top favorite of mine for many reasons, and it seems like I’m always in a perpetual state of waiting for her next book.

One Night Stand-In is the third standalone novel in her Boyfriend Material series, and it reunites former college friends and almost lovers in a second-chance romance that takes place largely over the course of 24 hours. Set in New York City, Blakely perfectly captures the vibe of this one-of-a-kind city, and her focus on those details really paid off in painting the backdrop for this love story.

The creative, interesting plot immediately pulled me in, and I enjoyed Lucas and Lola’s escapades as they raced around the city trying to solve a series of wacky riddles on behalf of their quirky younger siblings, Rowan and Luna. Right from the start, Lucas and Lola had so much fire burning between them. At first, anger and hurt from the wounds of their shattered past were stoking those flames, but it quickly shifted to smoldering attraction.

Their snappy banter flowed easily and naturally as they worked through the clues together. Each one seemed to remind them of their own bittersweet history and forced them to re-examine the past through more mature eyes. With each riddle they solved, understanding of their own past mistakes dawned, forgiveness was granted, and in letting go of the anger and hurt they’d been holding on to, hope built. This is exactly why I love second-chances so much, and the rekindling of this relationship was the kind of heart-racing romance I want in a romantic comedy.

Full of fun, fire and feels, One Night Stand-In was a feel-good, low angst, super sexy romantic comedy. With a fresh, entertaining storyline and sweet, sexy, second-chance love story, One Night Stand-In was an absolute pleasure to read. This whole series has been fantastic, and without question, these titles are destined to become classics in her extensive catalog. While I absolutely loved the entire series, One Night Stand-In rises to the top as a new favorite from Lauren Blakely and a favorite for the year. Five smooches from me for One Night Stand-In by Lauren Blakely!
