This moving memoir by speaker, educator, and entrepreneur Sam Thiara documents his seemingly impossible quest to find his grand- father’s village—armed with little more than a faded photograph. Sam vividly recounts his adventure through India’s crowded roads—a journey filled with mishaps and surprising encounters, and a growing sense of purpose. Drinking in the beauty of the Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple, he finds himself connecting more deeply with his Sikh faith, while confronting the ugliness of the country’s poverty and in- justice.

Along the way, Sam also wrestles with his sense of self. A British- born Indian, living in Canada, whose parents came from Fiji, he questions: Am I Indian? Am I Canadian? Am I Sikh? Who am I? As he begins to piece together the puzzle of his history, Sam realizes he is piecing himself together, too. Touching and inspiring, Lost and Found is a book for anyone who has felt adrift in the world, confirming that what was once lost can be found.

A touching and heartfelt story of the author not only experiencing India for the first time, but also attempting to connect with his family roots.

Whilst reading, I genuinely felt as though I was alongside Sam in his journey throughout India. Having been to India myself, Sam's ability to storytell in such an expressive and detailed manner, genuinely made me feel as though I was experiencing India once again.

In addition, Sam was able to perfectly depict many of the reactions/sensations felt while in India. Whilst jaw dropping at times, India can be a shock to your system due to being so different to what we are used to here in North America. I felt Sam was able to fully convey those feelings to us readers.

Lastly, Sam's emphasis on finding and connecting to his roots really brought another dimension to the book. Showing us that being able to connect with your roots and culture allows for a deeper understanding of oneself.

For those not being able to travel and wishing to experience India, or those simply seeking a great read, make sure to check this book out!

What an amazing book! Sam is an amazing story teller and Lost and Found is a touching, related, lighthearted, and soul-filling read. The final chapters brought me to my knees weeping! I just couldn't out it down. Even after finishing it, I needed to hold onto it longer. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for more answers on who they are and where they come from.

A lovely story of travel and finding your roots. I loved all the details of the author’s journey to India for the first time in his quest to find his grandfather’s village.

A heartfelt story of family, identity and finding yourself.

why did I wait so long

Sam’s story had been on my list for too long. In the end I started reading on Saturday morning and finished Sunday lunchtime!

A rich telling of a personal journey that shared with me more than I’d ever appreciated about India and Sam. Simply wonderful.

We're All Like Kitchiri!

I loved the journey to India with Sam and Sadhna and was deeply touched by Sam's discovery of his spiritual home (the Golden Temple in Amritsar), visiting the Taj Majal to find his Indian identity, and most of all, finding himself and his roots within his grandfather's village and his relatives. His realization that he was like Kitchiri really resonated with me because each and every one of us is deeply influenced by our DNA and our ancestral roots, our past experiences, our dreams, and who we choose to be.

This is a great story, written by a masterful storyteller - I highly recommend it!
