Mac

I’m the kind of guy you can always count on. When my best friend and former roommate—who up and ditched me in favor of his boyfriend—needs a favor, I don’t hesitate to help any way I can. This most recent favor landed me with a moody Irish university student for a roommate. With his long copper-red hair and blue eyes, he’s too damn cute for his own good—which is saying a lot considering I’m straight.

Thing is, he kinda hates me. Crazy, right? I shouldn’t care as much as I do, and I definitely shouldn’t let it bother me. Alas, here I am, caring and letting it bother me. I want him to like me, although I’m not quite sure why.

Dubhlainn

Insufferable. My new flatmate is insufferable. Between his loud, cheesy music, stupid assumptions, and flippant attitude, he annoys me. He also has this ridiculous aversion to wearing clothes around the flat, which wouldn’t be so bad if he weren’t so bloody attractive. It’s hard to remember to hate him when his perfect arse is within view.

Going after straight guys is nothing but trouble, and I’m smart enough to avoid that. Besides, I’d rather not mess up another living arrangement, and sex always makes things complicated—not that I’m thinking about sex.

Mac and Dubhlainn

Bam! It had an awesome start. Witty, snarky and crystal clear.
Mac got a new roommate and believe it or not, the beautiful redhead of a man is just how Mac prefers them, only Mac is straight. It seems he can’t make friends with Dubhlainn and the guy avoids him at the most. Early gone and late in.

Mac is a fresh whirlwind, positive and uplifting. He’s affectionate, boyish, funny and honest to the bone. Mac’s easygoing attitude is for Dubhlainn a reason to relax a bit. When Mac understands Dubhlainn is a drag queen his heart is doing strange things.
Mac is straight uhuh, only he can’t get Dubhlainn out of his head. As honest as he is he speaks out his feelings and they arrange a sort of friends with benefits. And bam the heat is on.

They can’t keep their hands to themselves. Simple it seems, not! It’s far complicated than on first sight, more even when there are feelings. Because that will never work, it’s all just has to stay casual!

The witty Irish comments from ‘Dove’ were awesome. I loved this story immensely.
Uplifting, fresh, with adorable characters. Written in a wonderful captivating pace.
There was nothing I didn’t love here. Enough emotional moments, adorable moments, steamy hot moments, and very lovable moments. A perfect positive story with everything in it!

DNF at 56%.

..
..
I really wanted to like this book. It was good until 45%-ish and then there's a conversation about 'you can screw anyone because we're not exclusive'.
The Mac just proved that the conversation was true. He screwing around. And both Dove and Mac screwing around caused by jealousy, but did't realized it until it was done. To me, it's still called cheating.

I drew straight red line about this stuff, that's why I think I'm done with this author.
I tried, two books and ended DNF for both books.
I didn't even care about the epilogue or the ending. To me, the relationship was just about sex between Mac and Dove. I doubt they'll be having a HEA if it happened in real life.

Nope.

DNF I hated the hole conversation where Mac is told that he can keep messing with women and when asked if he can mess with other guys it’s, sure I will be. We see whoever we want to. I want my MCs monogamous, unless they are playing with a third together.

This is an enemies to friends/friends to lovers story. The premise of the story is good, I loved Mac, it took me a while to warm up to Dove, the epilogue was lovely.

However, to say that it was descriptive is an understatement! Too many words! I personally would've liked the story to be less verbose, and would've liked to see it get to the point sooner. It dragged a little in parts.

Saying that, it was quite an entertaining story, one of discovery on Mac's part, and one of learning to trust on Dove's part. There are also some well written secondary characters, some of whom will hopefully appear in the next book.

So overall, a decent story and quite enjoyable. It had a few moments when my attention was not fully on the book, but still it had a satisfying storyline and characters. Not a bad read.

Warning: the romantic leads do have sex with other people, however, they are in an open relationship at the time.

All reviews are my voluntary and honest opinion.

Mac is a straight playboy, spoiled and somewhat narcissistic.
I had a little trouble with Mac, initially, he was a little too pushy/handsy when Dubhlainn told him no.
Once the two of them get together it's a complete turn around. After that, I was hooked.

Dubhlainn is a stunning redhead, Mac's favorite, with an Irish accent.

It's refreshing that Mac skips the gay panic and just adjusts his worldview to accept that he's bisexual, sans drama.

The two do have an ill thought out open arrangement, which initially leads to some stupidity, but it was resolved pretty quickly, and followed by declarations of monogamy.

I really felt the chemistry between the two characters.

Would re-read. 4.5

Amazingly sweet and funny

This book was great! I laughed and smiled through almost all of it. I really enjoyed reading the way that Dubhlainn speaks and I could almost hear his accent in my head. Another great thing was the sweet closeness that Mac and his grandmother share. This book has it all, comedy, sadness, and love. I really enjoyed reading it.

DNF 52% They’re not exclusive but I don’t like the sleeping around with women and doesn’t even seem to care about Dove except for fucking. He’s feeling up some chick on the dance floor, right in front of him. Gross.

Jackpot. This book is PERFECT.

Awesome cover? check
Impeccable Writing? Check
Engaging plot? check
Hot sex? check
Hot Jock who is more than he appears to be? CHECK CHECK CHECK.

Listen, there are two reasons I was so taken by this book. First, the writing was great, clean cut and engaging, not too much or too little. Second, Mac is SO MY TYPE.

In my eyes, there isn't any thing hotter than emotional maturity on a guy who looks like he doesn't have two shits in the world.

There is something so compelling about Jock-bro dudes when they're not portrayed as mysoginistic and homophobic. Like yes, I will bench-press my teammate at the gym by morning, eat pizza and watch football by evening, and help the homeless and visit my grandma by night. Honestly this is the batman shit I always wanted to see growing up, fuck toxic musculanity.

And Mac is the exact opposite of toxic musculanity. He hardly freaked out when he discovered he's bi, never treated Dove weirdly when he discovered he does drag, also was soooo communative and open about his feelings throughout the whole charade. Mac is very hard to pin under any sterotyope, he embraces himself truely just the way he is.

Also Mac and Dove were totally burning up the paper. They were HOT. I loved Dove's whole vibe, he clicked so well with Mac and their bantar and teasing was as amusing as it was hot.

Honestly point me where to sign a petition for more characters like that.

This is the second book in the Crazy Little Thing series; Mac's story. It picks up from the first book pretty well, but could probably be read as a standalone. The characters are well developed throughout the story, and the writing style is smoothly done.

Mac is a straight guy, and he definitely likes his women; especially if they have red hair like his favorite comic book character, Jean Grey. When his best friend and roommate moves out to live with his fiancé, Eli, he is talked into taking in Eli's best friend's little brother, Dubhlainn, or Dove. Mac works mainly from home, and loves to listen to his "out of date" music loud while doing so. He also does not like wearing clothes.

Dubhlainn is a student with a part-time job. When he arrives at his new home, he is not prepared for this man that is Mac. He avoids him as much as possible, until he realizes that Mac can actually help him out with a school assignment with which he has been struggling. They from a truce, and then unexpectedly, strike a different kind of deal.

Mac is very sexual, and not afraid to explore any side this part of himself entails. He is entranced by Dove's long red hair, and finds himself attracted to the young man. He makes a deal that they have a strictly physical, open relationship, which is smoking, but with absolutely no strings attached.

Eventually, even though Mac's friends and Gram have tried to tell him what is right in front of his face, it is Dove who makes the decision to protect his heart. The feelings, thoughts, and actions his decision set into play are the catalyst to get Mac to realize what has been going on in his life. It isn't until he is watching a new YouTube video of Dove performing that he gets off his depressed butt and does something about the situation.

The snark and banter between the MCs is a lot of fun in the story, and watching a player who doesn't believe in love for himself fall in love in ignorance was cute. There is a bit of angst, but not an intolerable amount. And, of course, our MCs get their HEA.

Happy reading!

I'm really enjoying this series so far! Serene has written really interesting characters that bring quite a bit of fun to the story whilst also having a great story line.
Mac is a quirky character! Working from home, he spends a lot of time sans clothing or in the bare minimum. He's happy with his life though he recently started living alone after his best friend moved in with his boyfriend and so he happily takes in a new roommate. Dubhlainn has no time for his nearly naked, frankly honest and definitely not attractive roommate. Somehow, though, the two men are drawn together by a hot attraction that can't be denied. This is something new for Mac as he's never been with a man before but Dubhlainn sparks feelings within him that he just has to act on.
What follows for the two men is a journey neither expected or has travelled on before. There's a lot of fun to be had once misunderstandings are talked about and rules are put in place. Things never quite go according to plan though! Mac is brilliant as he is honest, with his new attraction, want and need for Dubhlainn. There's a great trope that slowly develops from enemies to friends to lovers with a gradual development of feelings between two men that never expected it. I love Mac's friendships that he has with the men met in book one of this series and how it continues on regardless of new characters brought in. Dubhlainn's only friend is Taylor and he is a riot of sass and love for his friend. I would say this can be read as a standalone but would give you a better understanding of existing relationships if read in order.
Highly recommend this contemporary romance. There is banter, heat, new friendships and a blossoming relationship that the MC's are mostly unaware of!
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This is book #2 in the "Crazy Little Thing" series and even though it can be read as a standalone I'd recommend to read Princes of the Universe first to have MORE fun and fully enjoy all characters here.

This is a WONDERFUL story with adorable MCs and lots of MM action. It is a sweet enemies to lovers and gay-for-you story . I fell in love with Dove (sorry, his full name is just too difficult for me) right from his first day in Mac's apartment. He's bitchy, snarky, but also cute and super sexy! I liked their little arrangement, even if I am not a fan of non-exclusive couples. I won't lie, it was heart-breaking to read about Mac spending night with some random woman, but it was exactly what both MCs needed to take a next step and get exclusive so... well, I can forgive them.

The story is fast paced, scorching hot, full of believable emotions , I love that I was well aware of both, Mac and Dove's, thoughts about their "relationship". There is some drama due to misunderstanding but other than that it is a very enjoyable book without much angst. There are parts of this book that are absolutely HILARIOUS and parts that are heartbreaking. I can recommend this story to all MM lovers (plus everybody loves gingers!!!)!

(The only thing I didn't really like was the age difference or rather how young Dove was. I am almost 32 just like Mac was and I can't imagine myself being in a relationship with a 19yo student, no matter how hot, funny and mature he'd be)

I enjoyed this book. Like the first book in this series, I thought this one was a well-written, funny, and heartwarming gay-for-you story with an age-gap.

Mac and Dubhlainn "Dove" were sassy, playful, and colorful characters. I found it refreshing how these guys were unencumbered by the heavy responsibilities that you usually find in most books with a 12-year age spread, (i.e., no crazy exes, failed marriages, or children to make things overly-complicated.) I loved the snarky banter, fierce flirting, smoking hot moments, and gorgeous epilogue.

(Vague spoilers ahead)
While I didn't *enjoy* reading the scene that some reviewers have labeled as 'cheating', it's worth noting that I felt it was an important scene to set the stage for their budding relationship. (Also, IMHO it was not cheating, since they were not together at the time.)

Was it uncomfortable and cringe-worthy? Yes. But it also gave you a good look at the inner turmoil they must have been feeling at the time - doing something neither of them wanted to do, but feeling powerless because they were both so emotionally stunted to do anything about it. I thought this level of angst brought a level of gravitas to an otherwise light and funny book. I thought it added to their journey and strengthened their relationship in the end.

Killer Queen is an amazing roommates to lovers romance by Serene Franklin.

Mac meets Dove when the two become new roommates. From the start, I love these two. Mac's penchant for never wearing clothes, and Dove's immediate snark, get the book off to an amazing start.

Mac's always considered himself straight, but he's confused and startled when he finds himself thinking of kissing Dove. Once the lines do blur, let the real fun begin. There are many sex scenes, some first times for Mac, and more.

This is a story of awkward moments, sexual awakening, and sexual discovery. It's full of doubts, fears, jealousy, and stupidity. There's also tenderness underneath their sassy facades. With just the right amount of angst, which happens to be so well written, I was left gutted at times.

And, omg, the humor. There's some hysterical banter and remarks. I know I was thrilled to not be drinking anything during one of them. It would definitely have ended up with a spit take.

Overall, I highly recommend Killer Queen. Serene Franklin had me riveted throughout this sweet story of two men who struggle to confess their true feelings. The strength of their love is beautiful and it's adorable the way it just sneaks up on them. I love it all, the writing, the storyline, the characters, and more.

This was a lovely book! It was the first book by this author that I read, but damn she had me hooked! Lol I loved it!

Character breakdown;

Mac: I loved this man! Loved his teasing ways, his humor, his love for his family and I appreciated his love for Jean Grey. I especially loved how he tried and became a like vulnerable when he did things for Dove. The man was very likable!

Dove: first I loved that he was Irish, loved that he did drag with No Doubt songs! And I especially appreciated that he wasn't over the top or bratty. Those seem to be in trend now. I also loved how for a 19 year old he seemed very mature.

Favorite Quote: Uuf. Be still, my heart. “I didn’t fall for you because you looked like a fictional character.”He narrowed his eyes at me, quirking an eyebrow. “F***, okay. So I was super attracted to your hair in the beginning. Cut me some slack—I love your feisty a** now. Besides, you still look like Jean Grey. Uncanny X-Force volume 1, issue nineteen-point-one: The Age of Apocalypse. Jean Grey has the exact same haircut as you do right now, and I’m being honest when I say that I like it better on you.”I snuck a quick kiss while he flushed and laughed.

The author was new to me but I loved this book a lot. I laughed plenty and had a few heart breaking moments. I mean hurting Mac was like kicking a puppy! Lol I am looking forward to more by the author!

I loved this book. I really did.
I was worried about how Mac and Dove would carry on right after Princes of the Universe. How could these two match up to love story of Eli and Bryan?

Serene did it.
The story between Mac and Dove starts out rough. They barely talk to each other, Dove hates Mac’s lack of clothing. Mac has to deal with feelings of possible attraction to Dove. Mac has always been Straight. But the feelings that Dove stirs up in Mac drives Mac crazy, until they both crack.
There are moments that people may question but for the story it works. Because it’s for the character. You will want to smack certain people and you will want to throw the book down but persevere and you will fall back in love with Mac’s Golden retriever ways.

Serene creates a fun story and I fell in love with these two. They have such realism that I could see them walking down the street.
Their organic and very real character development is so natural. You can see Mac and Dove changing to make themselves better for the other. And you can see the snark and one upmanship

I was drawn to them and their story. I wanted to know more about Mac’s friends and Dove’s extracurricular activities.

Then she made me cry. .

Killer Queen is the second book in the Crazy Little Thing series by Serene Franklin. This book had me feeling emotions. It had angst, humor and romance.... it had characters that were interesting and entertaining. It definitely was a journey through falling in love.

Mac and Dove went from Roommates to friends with befits to lovers. Along the way, they stumbled... there was jealousy, miscommunication, cringy moments that not all readers can get passed... I for one really felt for these characters and was hit hard by certain mis-steps made, even though it all helped move the story along and played its role in the story. Honestly we make mistakes, we learn from them... so this story is more true to that... sometimes we are dumbarses.

I do like how the story was written in the two main characters' point of views and we got to see into their thoughts and feeling... it helped understand the whys of their actions and feel connected to them. Overall this story is well written and wonderful

I'll be honest - there were moments I loved and moments I hated. Luckily I was able to outweigh the issues I had with the overall story. As many people mentioned, this story really started with Dove and Mac agreeing to be non-exclusive friends with benefits. I hated that, and I really don't like watching any characters get together with others where it doesn't end up in a mutual relationship between all characters (meaning I am a fan of reading polyamory, not of randomly sleeping with others even if there isn't exclusivity). Beyond this, though, you have Mac, who never considered himself anything but straight, finding Dove attractive beyond words. They decide to have a casual relationship that eventually grows to much more. They were fun together and I chuckled at them occasionally. It was great to reconnect with some of the other characters from the first book, and I loved Mac's family, especially Gram. Overall it was a good book.

*I voluntarily read a review copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*

The blurb pulled me in but did the author deliver? Hell yeah!

I was hooked from the very first page. I smiled, laughed and even got a lump in my throat towards the end.

Dove made me laugh with the way he came across in the beginning. His Irish accent was sexy and combine that with Mac’s rough man handling - I was a complete gonna. These two guys were scorching hot in and out of the sheets. One of my favourite parts was when Mac started playing careless whisper and using a feather on Dove lol. Mac and Dove were beautiful together and their intimate, tender moments revealed what was hidden in their hearts even if they couldn't see it or admit it.

This was an entertaining story with plenty of humour, sweet moments and sexy steamy scenes that left me completely flustered.

Who doesn’t love a sexual awakening story?

Mac and Dove don’t know each other but become roommates. They are very different people and there’s definitely an adjustment period for Dove, Mac is Mac and he eventually wears Dove down with this desire to be friends.

A roommates with benefits situation soon arises as Mac discovers he may not be so straight after all.

I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop whilst both guys had no clue what was happening.

Mac is a great character, completely comfortable in himself even after discovering he liked guys. He was very funny and I did chuckle many times throughout. Dove was more of a mystery and was obviously nervous about getting involved with a straight guy but he did open up and when he finally admitted his true feelings he was adorable.

Fab story and such a cute epilogue, loved that!

I received an ARC of this book all opinions are completely my own.

A funny, steamy read. Loved Mac and Dove and how easy their relationship of a sorts was after a wee bit of a rough start. Dubhlainn is Mac’s new housemate through friend connections and Mac pretty quickly starts feeling an attraction to Dove though Mac considers himself straight. I like that he didn’t go through a crisis about this which goes with his easygoing nature. Loved Mac’s family and how easy they accepted this change too. What starts off as a friends with benefits slowly becomes more and it was just so sweet. The secondary characters were also lovely and looking forward to more of this group. This was my first book from this author but it definitely won’t be the last.

For those of you who are hesitant after reading from other reviews that they both sleep with other people, they do but they are non-exclusive and voiced that they could sleep with other people and honestly I feel like it moved the relationship forward, doesn’t go into much detail, and doesn’t last long.

This is a sweet Frenemies/roommates to lovers story. It follows on from Princes of the universe and is about Mac and his new room mate Dubhlainn or Dove as Mac likes to call him. Dove is Eve’s younger brother, he’s definitely prickly at the start of the book but quickly warms up to become a sassy, feisty, fun sweetie.

These two are very hot for each other and this comes across on the page. I really didn’t like the conversation about sleeping with others but it is something that happens and that made it realistic. I found the relationships that the pair had with secondary characters is really lovely and would love to read more.

This is a fun series with bits that will make you laugh, make you angry and maybe a bit exasperated with the lack of communication but it is definitely worth reading.

Note: An ARC was provided by the author via LesCourt ARC Team.

Four novels in and Serene Franklin has shown growth as an author. I loved the connection that Mac and Dove shared, going from strangers to roomies to friends and fuck buddies and then more. The evolution of their relationship fascinated me, especially given that they were such opposites in terms of personality. I know that some have pointed out that Mac and Dove's decision to be in a non-relationship that allowed for being with other people in the beginning was a turn-off, but I think that it brought a more realistic element to their story. These two had to figure out what they were feeling towards each other. Mac's suddenly not-so-straight sexuality wasn't as big of a hurdle to what was brewing between as I'd expected, which to me was refreshing. Five stars for Killer Queen. ♥

4.5 stars... A GFY with Friends With Benefits storyline
I've read this as a standalone book having not read the first book.  Right off in the first chapter this had me giggling as the two where fighting flits lol. A surprise is in stall for Mac as he found out more of Dubhlainn's personally and his other self. A fast gay for you with Mac having feelings.. sexy Irish banter, drag Queen, flatmates with benefits kinda scenerio, and more to name a few. I loved these guys and Mac, well he's a bit slow on the love communication skills. Things don't go smoothly but the get their HEA at the end.

Mac 31 yrs was gaining a new flat mate he didnt know after his friend moved out. Mac was straight and loved having little on on hot days. Lol
Dubhlainn's aka Dove, 19 yrs first meeting with Mac and the future isn't going to be smooth..

Don't you just love stories when love kinda sneaks up on the characters?

This is exactly the case for Mac and Dove in Killer Queen. Watching it happen was really entertaining. To think that they didn't even like each other when they first met. But then Mac finds himself attracted to Dove, the guys have their little agreement to a just sex relationship (who wouldn't say yes to that?) and what do you know...emotions start getting stronger than they bargained for...

Killer Queen was fun to read. A feisty Irish redhead and an easygoing all American guy make for an explosive combination, both outside and inside the bedroom. And snappy banter, hot scenes and growing feelings make an enjoyable book!

For a guy who's great at speaking his mind - albeit awkwardly, at times - Mac sure didn't do a great job of communicating in Killer Queen. At least within himself, with a pretty severe case of denial. I loved this sequel to Princes of the Universe. It was great to see Bryan and Eli a bit more, and getting to know Mac was really fun. And I loved Dove! A little less nerdy than Princes of the Universe, but some good X-Men references really made the story - especially the recurring thread about Jean Grey's hair.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Thrown together as roommates, Mac & Dubhlainn are instant enemies with sizzling chemistry. Their attraction towards each other leads to a friends with benefits situation but can the frenemies admit how they really feel?

Mac is unapologetically himself, no matter where that leads and Dubhlainn is focused on his studies, as well as his secret hobby. This is a sweet read with well rounded characters and a story full of laughs, heartbreak and hot attraction.

Quirky Characters & a lot of laughs

This is my first book from the author but probably won’t be my last. I absolutely adored Mac, he was so fun and quirky that I honestly couldn’t get enough, and dove was just so amazingly Irish. The banter between the characters was unreal. I’m excited to go back and read book 1 and I’m looking forward to getting to read some of the other side characters stories, if the author plans to write them. All in all this was a fun book with some miscommunication angst but a sweet HEA ❤️

Amazing book

This was one sweet, lovely, funny and sexy book until it blindsided me and broke my heart. It was perfect. I really loved it.
D and M were amazing together, I loved how unapologetically himself Mac was at all times, and how mature and down to hearth Dubhlainn is. They were so different and explosive together, in the best ways.
And the ending was so them and perfect, definitely going into my re-read list
