Cold. Confused. Sold to the highest bidder.

Samantha awakens to discover she is the property of Galactic Continuity, an intergalactic company specializing in breeding programs for species who are nearing extinction. At the Hub, a strange humanoid creature aggressively bids for her, and wins. Samantha knows what the alien wants, and she’s not relinquishing her body without a fight.

Ruler of the planet Brillar, Dredge is one of the only remaining Glims in the universe. This pale, dull oddity before him — this human — is his species’ best hope for surviving the disease that is wreaking havoc on his planet. There is only one problem — she is non-compliant, combative, and worst of all: she is missing her shine.

When the virus that killed most of his species begins devouring Dredge’s body as well, will he be able to convince the human Samantha to breed before his light dies out?

If you like considerate alpha aliens, determined female Earthlings, and high-stakes romance, reserve your copy of Dredge, the first book in the new sci-fi fantasy romance series, Galactic Seduction!

Consent is sexy. Explicit, consensual encounters between main characters. No Stockholm Syndrome romances. Some allusions to rape.

2.5 STARS FOR EFFORT AND ORIGINALITY. THE REST FELT LIKE IT STILL NEEDED WORKING ON, ESPECIALLY WHERE EMOTIONS ARE CONCERNED TO BUILD A SEAMLESS LOVE STORY.

HERO appeared clinical at first, being a species of Light, he's also a noted clean freak, doesn't like crowded spaces and prefers solitude. My favourite type of antisocial hero. I can't help but feel that Dredge was the one who felt more than the heroine, he reached out the most and also had the most to lose in a way. Desperate to do his duty to a dying race, he purchased our heroine from an auction and informs her that she's to be bred. Dredge is a very nice guy, he's polite, considerate and ever ready to make her willing to mate with him.

HEROINE didn't really grabbed me by the heart. She's definitely not weak, can be scheming but also doesn't take shit lying down. Being abducted away from Earth, she and 29 other women are terrified as fuck as tentacle aliens manhandle them. When a Brillar male buys her to breed her, she's obviously against it and tries to find an escape. But day by day she gets to understand what Dredge is and while I do understand the author tries to bridge a connection between the two...it just fell flat and didn't feel natural. I felt like I missed a whole chunk of them actually being emotionally intimate (spilling backgrounds and history doesn't count)..there wasn't obvious trust, moments that signify or even heart wrenching scenarios.

OVERALL it was so-so , the characters didn't captivate me deeply nor did the story. Though I did like the originality of what the hero was. Apart from that , emotional elements were lacking in terms of smooth transitioning. There was a lack of compromise on the heroine’s side...Or rather their romance was all so cold and clinical it didn't change much at the end.

I really liked this! In this book, you follow as a Samantha is kidnapped from earth by evil aliens to be sold to other aliens for breeding purposes. This book was dark but not with despair. The alien whom purchased her has no desire to force breeding, and the MC is fierce with plotting.

Overall, it was a very interesting read. The author has done a great job at creating a space adventure with unique alien concepts. I would definitely recommend - BUT - will advise that you gotta love alien romance to like this book. Otherwise it's gonna be too far out there for you. (Warnings: Themes of slavery and pregnancy, with mentioning of suicide & death)

I thought it was an interesting read. The male character was almost sweet despite the subject matter of this story. The heroine reacts to circumstances in a realistic manner . There are some darkish elements that the reader gets a small taste of but I didn't find it extreme which also kept my attention on the story. Now honestly I probably liked the hero better in this book than the heroine even though she is understandably keeping secrets which I support but I am a bit worried our hero might be crushed and or prosecuted by the end of this series. I would definitely like some spectacular revenge by the Earth women against the bad guys( which quite a few characters you meet in this book so deserve it) but I do feel sorry for Dredge who just wants to save his species from extinction. I liked this book. I will be reading the next one in this series.

Really liked some elements to the story. It was a different slant on alien abduction romance. However,

- I still couldn't understand how the heroine fell in love with hero, so that still seemed Stockholm-ish
- they only had sex once and stopped with no reason why for almost entire book
- absolutely nothing was said about her life before abduction except she lived in Dallas, had a cat and went to college at some point. What did she do for a living? Did she have a family at all? There was no past frame of reference for anything she did or thought except wanting to get back to earth.
-deux ex machina resolution to a major plot point

-CLIFFHANGER ENDING. Very abrupt.

2.5 stars bc I liked writing style and fresh approach to theme. Book needs editing for reasons above. Will hold off on series bc of cliffhangers

The author had created a unique world in the story though the reason for the existence of the alien hub is quite grim. The female protagonist is quite smart, she has a plan and is brewing but it’s completion would not come to fruition in this story. Dredge and Samantha’s mating resulted in a glimling, and they developed a bond. The story in itself is complete but the ground work laid down in this story would be continued in the next installment

The book starts out a bit rough as Samantha awakens in a cage on a different planet. Just as she’s starting to figure out she’s no longer on earth she now has to deal with being auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Lucky for her she is bought by Dredge. He is the last of a dying race and he needs her to help him repopulate his planet. While he wants to mate with her he never forces himself on her. He gives her a small amount of adjustment time to come to terms that he is going to impregnate her.

While the story is sweet and Dredge is actually a decent alien we can’t get around that this is a human trafficking story. There is a lot of allusion to not so nice actions being done to some of the females that are taken that are not cooperative or are not able to reproduce.

Once Samantha realizes how fortunate she is to have had Dredge become her owner she wants to help those that are not having an easy time of their ugly situations. It was great that Samantha had a spine and while some of her ideas are a little out there she is willing to fight to make life better for others.

The story is about a 3.5 rating. It’s a short read and it does end on a cliffhanger. Samantha and Dredge have happy for now in this story and you will learn more about them in Ignis.

I thought it was an interesting plot line - different from most alien abduction romances. I don't even think I fully consider this a romance, and the cliffhanger killed it for me. The male character is highly intelligent, but also comes off as too sweet and naive at the same time. The female heroine does not react to circumstances in any realistic manner, but in a weird way . The dark elements that you are used to reading about in an alien abduction are alluded to but not graphic - but that only adds to the disconnect of the female characters reactions. The book was also a bit short for me - maybe that's why I didn't connect as well to the characters or the plot. The background wasn't very developed. I do not think I will be reading the next book.

I have mixed feelings about this book, particularly because I have mixed feelings about Samantha‘s reactions. While I know that humans are complex, and as a result capable of having conflicting feelings at the same time, the fact that she is both in love with Dredge and plotting to overthrow the entire station even while she gives birth to a hybrid baby are all a little bit tangled.

Yes, Samantha empathizes with Dredge’s plight, and the fact that his race is going extinct, but he doesn’t have any empathy towards her or the thousands of women being stolen and raped. There is no reciprocal emotion here. They “love” each other, but neither one truly knows the other. Each is living a half life with the other in their little room. Samantha’s other self is devoted to plotting the rebellion and escape of all the women on the Hub and Dredge is preoccupied with dying and his responsibilities as king. She doesn’t even know he’s the king of his planet.

The story spends a lot of time, contemplating the means, by which humans can escape, primarily in this case through death. Samantha wants to stop that, she wants to use the women as a liberation force, which is admirable, but she and the others are risking much. Also, how will Dredge respond to such a betrayal? He will never understand Samantha‘s need to be free, he doesn’t think of her as a being equal to himself, nor does he think of their unborn child, as actually one of his own kind. He fully expects to just be able to handle his daughter off to one of the other men on his planet as a new breeder. I don’t know how long it takes for one of the Glim to reach sexual maturity, but I don’t think this is a very well thought out scenario for a dying race.

Excessive Summarizing Summaries

When I reflect on the story as a whole, I am drawn to explore further, yet in scrutinizing its details, I am left floundering in disappointment. The author attempts to build suspense through the use of perpetually rambling, often unnecessary, summaries which focus on current plot clues and situations in an attempt to set up future revelations. In reality, cutting 40% of these summaries would greatly strengthen character motivation and follow through actions. Ultimately, crafting a masterful literary style choked full of mystery, intrigue, and the ever important romance.

Dredge

I am a HUGE fan of science fiction romance, particularly alien abduction romance. I do not like the insta love so I thought this book would be perfect. Plus the cover just grabbed my attention which is a big thing for me. This is my first book that I've read from Lula Monk. I have to say unfortunately that I was disappointed. At times it was confusing. The heroine was annoying. I can't put my finger on it but she just didn't sit right with me. 90% of the book was spent in the room..... The romance was dull. I don't know, I was disappointed and I just don't know if I can follow through with book 2.

DNF @ 56%

I wanted to like this more. It started well but it was honestly boring and while Dredge was slowing starting to be a little more human, it all just seemed slow and their interactions just didn’t feel authentic at all.

While well-written I was sort of bored? And sad while reading this. Just not for me I suppose, which has no bearing on the quality of the writing. I suppose I would be just as furious and unhappy as Samantha but she mostly comes off as bratty.

I was hopeful that the angst (which I usually love but ultimately became a grating annoyance) would resolve by the end of the book. BUT the story is HFN. Inconclusive. I’m curious but completely resistant to slogging through more angry morass at this time.

I did not enjoy this one at all. First of all it ended in a cliffhanger... No. Thank. You. Secondly as I said in my update, this one shouldn't really have been in the romance section. Although there is sex and the words "I love you" are spoken, the book is more about surviving rape and slavery than anything else. The heroine falls in love with the guy who purchases her and is forcing her to have his glimling as he calls it and that's just not romantic to me. Plus even after the I love yous are said he STILL calls her the Earth woman. This one is a no for me.

Ok start to the series

I just finished reading this book and it seemed somewhat dull and shallow. That being said it does pick up toward and at the end. It does end in a cliffhanger but nothing too harsh. It does make you want to read the next book. So congrats to the author. Mission accomplished !
