Summed-up biography of Plato. Plato himself, and Socrates through the refined lenses of Plato. Where most believe Plato derives most of his views from. Platonic worldview spanning across different branches; political philosophy, semantics, ethics, axiology, and metaphysics. It captures all of the important points from each Platonic dialogue and a side-by-side of comparison of each one. Tracking the development of Platonic thought and worldview throughout the anthology of dialogues.
Williams delves into core Plato points and analyzes them from a slightly objective point-of-view (assuming relativism is in effect.) He proposes arguments time-to-time to point out flaws or shortcomings of Plato’s core ideas. He points out the degrees of uncertainty or instability Plato has in some of his ideas. And most greatly, his skill of adaptability (in the Epilogue) to propose a Platonic view or how Plato would think about modern circumstances and the developments that leads us to our present society.
Refreshing and effective book if you want to instill core Platonic points simply and lucidly. Especially with frequent repetition of focused points in each chapter.
