Through the study and application of mental laws, you can find the way to health, harmony, peace, and prosperity. Scientific prayer is the practice of the presence of God.
(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي) Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.
Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.
In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.
It's a short but very helpful book. Guide us to keep our mind align with our goals through faith and changing our subconscious mind. I'll print some of the prayers and practice it daily.
Just like every other book written by Dr. Joseph Murphy, this one was a life transforming one too. This book gives a lot of positivity and optimism and an individual can connect with the divine in a better way. Ones thoughts backed by beliefs has immense power to manifest his/her desired results. This book has played a vital role in my spiritual journey and I'll definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to see a positive change in their lives.
For whatever reason, I tend to like Joseph Murphy's works over Neville Goddards. I feel Joseph's books are easier for me to understand and he repeats his points a lot for those of use that have trouble understanding of fine it easier to learn from repetition. I like his Christian inferences and examples. Not so new age, for me to stomach.
Very practical and soothing to the world soul. I try to practice his praying tips daily. It really helps me set my perspective right at the start and end of each day.
Am example of bringing the subculture and conscience mind to work together. All God like thoughts turn reality into heavens. I like the examples for short, simple words for prayers. Good words, God’s world.
"How to Use the Power of Prayer," was written by the late and great Dr. Joseph Murphy. I have read and reread several of Dr. Murphy's books, over the years, and although I had not initially known about this book, I was especially intrigued by what was printed on the top of the cover, "The only edition authorized by the Dr. Joseph Murphy Trust."
My softcover edition has a grand total of 108 pages, including end pages.
As usual, any book written by the late and great Dr. Murphy has beautiful, inspirational writing. What I found interesting was that there were very few Affirmations or Spiritual Decrees (what the late and great Louise L. Hay would call "treatments") in this book. It was no less beautiful to read.
My only challenge was that I had a tough time going through some of the material. I could not help but think of "The Dynamic Laws of Prayer," written by the current and great Dr. Catherine Ponder, a recipient of the Joseph Murphy Humanitarian Award, by the way. The first time I read her Prayer book, I found it challenging to read.
Perhaps the concept of Prayer was challenging for me, in spite of being a Happily-Recovered-Catholic, but I AM glad I finally made it through the book. In spite of being under 110 pages, it was challenging to read, at times, and given that this is a non-fiction book, I wanted to spend more time and energy fully reading it.
My sense is that this book shall be more understandable for me when I reread it, whenever that may be.
Some of you may want to work your way up to this one, but if you are being guided and led to read it, then by all means, follow your Intuition in the matter.
I can't believe I didn't find How to Use the Power of Prayer by Joseph Murphy sooner! This book isn't just theory; it's a genuine roadmap for transforming your life from the inside out. The core impact of this incredible read is how it demystifies the entire concept of prayer, stripping away any complicated rituals and presenting it as a simple, scientific application of faith and focused thought. It's truly life-changing because Dr. Murphy teaches you to communicate directly with your subconscious mind to manifest positive results in every area—health, wealth, and relationships. The most valuable lesson I've taken away is the simple, profound truth that "The law of life is the law of belief." Once you truly grasp that your external world mirrors your inner convictions, everything shifts. I started applying the techniques outlined in the book immediately (especially the technique of mental imagery right before sleep), and the difference in my daily outlook and the positive circumstances flowing into my life has been undeniable. If you're looking for practical wisdom that actually delivers tangible, real-world results, stop waiting and pick this up. It’s an empowering, essential guide I recommend to everyone!
This books reminds me that I have options other than the lowly human choices that I think are obvious. And they work! I would recommend this book for anyone who is in crisis and thinks they are alone. It's short, to the point and effective
My last read of 2024 is another amazing read by one of the best self help writers Dr Murphy. Insightful, thought provoking, simple and practical to understand. Complex processes and theories explained in a simple way through real life examples. A must read for those interested in reading philosophy or self help genre.
Good stuff. Lots to drae you closer to the heart of God snd improve your prauer life ny encouraging one in the faith. Some new agey stuff for an older book but a discerning reader should be able to separate the wheat.
This book shares good sermons about life in all aspects. But we don't follow them out of ignorance or non-cooperation from our partners and other family members. No one succeeds or transforms alone. We must internalize these learnings to get benefit out of it.
This book made me nervous for some reason? I am very familiar with the scriptures used but it seemed to be more? Like some New Age philosophy mixed in? I will read it again at a later date to see if I get the same vibe. It was a quick read and listen.
This book taught me so much!! I now understand how prayers should be done and why many times I did not get an answer. I highly recommend this book, not only for what you will probably learn, but the beautiful feelings of peace it leaves.
