Your 70-year-old father is dating someone young enough to be your sister? You make the same mistakes you made in your twenties two whole decades later? I love reading. I love books. I love sinking my teeth into a story. Even when a story isn't that good, I MUST see it to the end.

Unfortunately this was not one of them. This was the first book in years that I couldn't finish reading. Hell, I couldn't even get past the second chapter. Actually come to think of it I'm not sure I even got past the first. But this is the problem...I don't remember.

I struggled to read it. It didn't hook me. There was too much telling and not enough showing. The main character (forgive me I even forget her name) was whiny and very 'woe is me'. I didn't like any of the characters that I 'met'...at all.

A good book needs to have a hook. A good book needs to have interesting characters. If I'm hooked by the first chapter and I'm intrigued by at least one character, I'll definitely read to the end. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a great book, I'll still want to know what happens.

Sorry Katie Lawson but this wasn't for me and I'm not sure if I'll read any other of her books either. This one has turned me off. Don't get me wrong, the author has writing talent but this book was very amateurish and too difficult to read.

Wasn’t expecting much from this book but was pleasantly surprised. Well written story about a middle-aged mum who thinks she is about to get married and instead gets dumped. She additionally has her kids needing her advice and help as well as dealing with her own life. Good chic lit read for the slightly older woman.

Kate Lawson’s Mum’s the Word is a riotous romantic comedy that proves life doesn’t slow down at forty—it just gets messier, funnier, and more unpredictable. With a voice that’s cheeky, candid, and full of heart, Lawson crafts a tale of motherhood, midlife reinvention, and the chaos of second chances.

I've listened to a few of this authors books, but this is probably my favorite one. Easy listening while sewing and doing other things.

Susie id 40 and part time art teacher. Dating Mr Will do in the boring Robert . She is convinced he is going to propose when he dumps her .Add to which her son comes home with a bag full of dirty washing and a life full of problems ,
Add in her pregnant daughter whose hormones seem to be on overdrive and never ending friends of her family all is far from peaceful in the
cottage she shares with her dog Milo.

Interesting enough book but rather ameturishly written.
In the hands of a good author the book would have been good but Ms Lawson's writing lacks talent . She has the basic idea, but does not deliver it. Also she trips her herself when writing as certain aspects in the story line just don't add .

My first time reading a novel that the main character is a 45-year-old single mom. Full of conflicts yet not too complicated. A very enjoyable book for spending time.

What fun chick-lit fiction! I could see the decor and the landscape and I felt truly nestled into Susie's life. But I guessed about Alex at the start!! It was a great short book to read!

This is chick lit, an easy read and quite entertaining. Enjoy it for what it is, I did!
