James S. Aaron is the author of nine novels and many short stories. His most recent series is the Sentience Wars: Solar War 1, written with M.D. Cooper in his Aeon 14 Universe.
He is a twelve year U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic and later platoon leader and company commander. His novels draw heavily on his military experience, including the people, the deployments, the technology and the locales.
James lives in Oregon with his family, where he enjoys camping, hacking electronics, amateur carpentry and All Things Science Fiction. He's a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and volunteers with his local animal shelter.
The authors have apparently joined two series together into a vaguely continuous saga. The entire series takes some serious suspension of disbelief. Little, things like data disks, network filaments, and daily life items from now will simply not exist more than a thousand years in the future. But it’s worth overlooking this stuff. Then there are the grammatical errors that cause my brain to drop out of the story like, “She had two guns on each side.” several of those. That said, the grammar is a cut above most considering the prodigious output from these writers in relatively short time frames, while holding day jobs. I offer all, this to explain why I didn’t give 5 stars. My interest is maintained and I will continue reading the series.
Action, suspense, and intrigue fill the pages and one can’t wait to absorb each one. Politics never change, even in the future. The solar system is divided, the people divided, and war is imminent. A continuing story of the Sykes family. Family isn’t always blood, but everyone needs family. I’ve already started on book three. Go Cara!
If Lyssa’s Return was a little weak, in my opinion, than Lyssa’s Descent most definitely was not. The action doesn’t let up for a moment as Cara and her friends race to complete the objectives, while the Sol System rapidly devolves into chaos. Meanwhile Carmaris is up to…something.
I didn’t realize how much I missed these individuals. The story flows right through. Mal and James weave a tail that will have you wanting to jump right in and help.
You would think A.I. Would be a bit more zen. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. I look forward to more from this series 😁
I love it when Cooper and Aaron team up, and if the Sentience Origins was good then this also looks to improve on that series. Familiar characters return and if not wiser , then older and even more enticing to read about. Best of all we finally start to see just how Old Sol caused such an event that its affects would be fealt thousands of years into the future and start an entire new war that would threaten the human species
Another strong book in the overall Aeon14 series and also in the continuing thread that the two co-authors are presenting us here. We see things escalating after the events of book 1, and there is a lot of suspense in the latter half of the novel, becoming very hard to put down. We continue to see the growth of the characters we know and love, and the impacts on them of prior history. I look forward to the next book :)
An epic series with many familiar, well rounded characters. The entire series is well written with a strong story. If you’ve read and enjoyed any of the preceding books you’ll love this. Very much worth reading.
