It's hard for me when a book jumps between perspectives of characters from book to book. The first book had Grubbs, the second was back in time and introducing Kernel, then the third book is back to Grubbs again - and previewing the fourth, they're introducing a new character entirely. The same villain is present and all these characters will tie together with the Disciples fighting the Demonata.
This may be the weakest of the first three. I was pleased to return to Grubbs because I like the character, and we see him come into his own power and magic blend. The ending promises secrets for him to hold on to as he still wants to resume a normal life. With what he's seen and the traumas he has experienced, who can really blame him? I do think his magic seems intriguing and can't wait to return to his story again.
In this book we have good characters but the plotline is rather strange. Dare I say a little cheesy? Thankfully when I was thinking that during the read, a few chapters more and they showed some was false and less cheesy than I believed, but still...the plot is a decent one but not as complex as the others. It's not a full filler book but it's close. It does show the importance of his developing powers, Dervish's recuperation, and introduces more strongly the danger of the Lambs.
It's a young adult series, but there's plenty of violence and gore. Art's hair has been replaced from cockroaches to maggots. Lord Loss uses the snakes coming out of his chest for more than just looks this time around. It's a little tamer in comparison with details to the horrors of the first book, and some of the twists of threat in the second, but still vicious with its villains. These are certainly top-notch, cruel, evil demons who never know mercy.
Really this book had a plot that lacked complexity on the surface, but introduced a lot of elements we need to know about later. Obviously the secret Bill-E doesn't know yet may become a big deal later, or perhaps not. All those chapters showing the Lambs and their purpose and tension with the Demonata could figure largely into the plot later on. Lord Loss's hatred of Grubbs and Dervish is intensified. We see a big development with Grubbs that will obviously change his future play potential in the big game between the demons and the humans. And we have the intro of a new character or two that may disappear forever, could stay minor and pop up time to time, or could even become big contestants later on.
I will definitely read the next book to find out. These are addictive.

Darren Shan books are full of horror, mystery and chills. This books also delivered what was expected. Sometimes it made me cringe and sent chills down my spine. Recommended for horror fans.

در متن انگلیسی «He spends most of his time among the Demonata» آمده که قطعا «افراد» مد نظر نویسنده نبوده!
صفحه ۱۶۷: متن اصلی چنین بوده: «They’re filming the second big demon scene tonight. No carnage or loss of life this time. It’s a scene from the third act, in which a demon appears to Bobby Mint and his friends.»
در متن اصلی هم به همین صورت نوشته شده است: «He doesn’t touch the floor, but hovers a few centimeters above the ground all the time.»
در متن اصلی چنین آمده و ترجمه اشتباه نیست: «Breezing through customs, nobody asking to see our passports.»
She goes quiet. Stiff. Her skin turns grey as he sucks the life out of her. I hear bones cracking. Her feet jerk a few times, then stop.»

My literature teacher said to class once: a writer that writes countless books, writes the same story over and over again. And I think there is a core of truth in this.
Darren Shan writes an insane amount of books in such a short time period. He publishes two books every single year. And what most people forget is that he actually is still fairly young; according to his Goodreads page he isn't even forty yet. By the time he's too old to write he will have written enough for the library to dedicate a whole cabinet just to fit in his books.
That makes you wonder though. Are all these books still unique? Or is it the same story told over and over again, only slightly different every time?
I don't know what the future may hold for Darren, but I do know that he still has enough creativity to keep us entertained and on the edge of our chairs. Slawter is slightly different from the previous parts in this series regarding the pacing. Darren's other books contain a lot of fighting off horrible demons and keeping them from ripping you apart. There is a lot of action in those books and they're lighter on the plot side. Slawter on the contrary doesn't have that much action going on. Looking back on the book, there is only really one big fight at the end of the book. Instead of a constant stream of blood and intestines, we now have a book that is more subtle, with more intrigue and plot twists. I liked to see this other side of Darren's writing in the Demonata series.
As the books in this series don't all follow the same persons, you need some kind of connecting factor to keep this series together. I love the way the author has managed to do this so skilfully subtle. He makes sure his readers see and recognise details from the other books, but keeps his characters in the dark, like they should be. They never know things they shouldn't and I really appreciate he took an effort to stay true of his storyline, and not to take the easy way out.
It was great to see Grubbs from Lord Loss (see below) back. He is scared, yet responsible. I like that he is so human, yet still a hero. While he is noble and saving everyone's ass, he would rather run away. He doesn't seek out the danger, he tries to avoid it. But when time comes he has the guts to fight back.
I'm really enjoying this series. This book was like seeing old friends. I'm curious to see where Darren Shan is taking us with these books. Will the terrifying Lord Loss ever be defeated?

3.5 Stars
Slawter book 3 of Darren Shan's Demonata is a good fast read. The third time out is not exactly a charm. This is the shallowest scoped and weakest of the first three novels. Reading this immediately after reading my favorite book two Demon Thief only made this one seem even smaller.
The plot in this one narrows down our adventure to one little town and the filming of a movie called Slawter. As a result the situations that arise are small in comparison to the previous books. Top this off that even though I enjoy Grubbs as the main character, he is not as special and cool as Kernel from book two.
Enough with negatives. I still enjoyed this book and love the series. I have had a blast revisiting the world of the Demonata and reading the style of Darren Shan. These books maybe classified as Young Adult, but Shan does not hold back on the blood, action, and gore. These books may not be appropriate for many if you have problems with blood and gore. People get maimed and killed and there is always a lot of blood.
It is great that magic has moved front and center in this series. I can't wait for more. The plot is straight forward with minimal turns along the way. The reading is easy going and there is plenty of action to speed things along. This is a good edition to the series.
I am a Darren Shan fan now and look forward to reading more. Really fun stuff...

Grubs has been taking care of Dervish since their battle with Lord Loss left his uncle a bit worse for wear. Bill-E has almost no idea of what Grubs and Dervish went through to save him.
Unexpectedly, a celebrated horror movie director gets in touch, wanting Dervish to act as a consultant on an epic horror movie about demons. After some persuasion, Dervish agrees and takes Grubs and Bill- E to the set with him.
It doesn't take long for Lord Loss and his hell babies to show up and make things difficult for Grubs and Dervish, forcing them into another gruesome battle for their lives.

God I was a lazy so and so back in the day, good thing I'm rereading this series and doing reviews along the way, how else would people know my various opinions about this brilliant series...tut tut
This is the point of the story in which I thought shit has really begun to hit the fan, in the last two books there have been several instances of demonata appearances and destruction on earth, but these have usually been isolated and contained to a few murders without any follow up, slawter however I believed changed this.
What's there to say that hasn't been said for the previous few books?? There's a bunch of laughs, tonnes of gore and action and enough drama to keep you entranced for hours.
Not only is the demonata in full swing with the backing of the powerful Lord Loss but it seems more and more people are becoming aware of their existence and the bodies are beginning to pile up stories high.
Not only this but we get our first glimpse of ultra powerful Grubbs and just what he is capable of doing with the right amount of magic, to bad he doesn't tap into this again till later but it's a lot of fun to reread.
Slawter is just as good as I remember it being three years ago, even though I feel guilty about rereading books instead of experiencing new adventures I'm glad I talked myself into picking up one of the all time great book series and give it another whirl. I should have the series finished again within the next few months (even though I have to read the paper editions for the last books like a muggle...given the audiobook versions have not arrived yet)

I was so glad to come back to the original characters of the Grady's, from Lord Loss!
I felt like everything not necessarily fell into place (cause it didn't need that), but gave some background and perspective into the life of Dervish and with that newfound knowledge I was able to appreciate him more as a character and understand subtleties I wouldn't have been able to without the information the second book gave me... But we aren't here to talk about book two!
This book was awesome! I loved it way more than more than the first and feel if was on par with, or a little less great with, the second.
Coming back to Grubb's life I found his growth of magical abilities to be interesting, but didn't like how it just happened and, as I've said before, lacks a magic system/rules as that just bothers me because I need structure!
Apart from that minor irritance, I liked the wave of new characters and liked disliking others.
The plot of it being set on a movie set was really interesting and quite entertaining as the events fleshed out and spirled out of control. I do hope they bring the Grady's back because I want more, but I have a feeling that years will be skipped!
Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)<

This book the 3rd one is continuing the story off book one. A really famous movie maker is inviting Uncle Dervish to help her make one craz horror movie called SLAWTER. Grubbs suspect there is something fishy with the movie maker because from the prototypes on dvd they look kind of real like the demons Grubb have faced in book one. Once they are on the scene Grubbs couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a demon tear apart his friend away when it's actual real but everyone thought it was fake since its a part of the movie and the stage effects had made everything real. Grubb knew it was real now he is on the case to solve the deadl murder of the demons connection with the movie maker. This is kind of cool but it's sad that many people have died. Also this book have more demons then both other books

4.5 out of 5 stars.
This book was brilliant fun.
As warped as it's going to sound, I really enjoyed it - in all it's cheesy, gorey madness.
The way that the series is developing is something I hoped for from the moment I picked up the first book, and seeing these characters progress and become better versions of themselves it awesome.
The writing still got to me a little at points. Where it felt more of a list than the telling of a story, but it was so much better than the first two books.
I can't wait to pick up the rest of the series.

Taking place after Lord Loss, this book brings us back to the story of Grubbs.
There is much character development for Grubbs, along with a lot more being found out about the magic in the universe. I had a bit of a rocky start with this series, but it's getting better each book.
Shan even managed to surprise me in this book. In the Cirque du Freak books I could see things coming from miles away, but here I actually was wrong about a few things that happened.
This is a fun, action-packed romp with misdirections, mayhem and demons.
I'll be picking up the next book soon.

Two words; dream sequence.
An authors lousy attempt at bridging a gap in their uninventive book.
Filler and plot holes galore, this novel will have you comparing it to Swiss cheese.

4 stars for the grand Slawter!
More gore. More Guts. More demons.
"LIGHTS. CAMERA. SLAWTER!"
Warning: Do not read the book if you hate reading about people getting butchered, old and young alike.
So... Here we are again. Roughly 25 years after the events of Demon thief(and 1 year after Lord Loss)
Those of you who haven't read the 1st book will find the first two chapters interesting as the protagonist gives a quick recap. For others, it may seem irritating(like how I felt)
Anyway..
Grubbs Grady is back, the protagonist from the first book, who defeated Lord Loss. He has been babysitting Dervish, his uncle, who has yet to calm down from the shock(regarding facing Lord Loss)
Bill-E Spleen, Grubbs' brother helps him to take care of Dervish. Everything goes on smoothly. They go to school. Do their homework. Perfectly normal.
But one fine day, Dervish recieves a contract offer from David A Hayms(later Davida, oooh she's a chic!), the ace horror moviemaker. She wants Dervish's expertise in helping her craft demonic costumes.
Grubbs and Bill-E cannot shut up. They are like "Hey yall David A Hayms is comin' over to our place to talk buisness!" and all the other kids sort of worship them.
And then she comes. Davida, Oscars rolling around her house like waste, An old bitch trying to Find out new and bloodier ways to kill people in her movies. The movie she'd like to shoot is called "Slawter", Coolio namio bitchio!
The theme is that in which demons massacre people(In the worst ways imaginable) in a village called Slawter(built from the ground up just for the flick) and some funky hero's gonna save the day. Simple as shit. But the thing is KILLING. She wants the demons to look real, so real that even the actors must wet themselves. And since Derv is a man who knows stuff about demons, she asks.
The man accepts. He, Grubbs and Bill-E go to the village of Slawter. Everythings cool here. Free food and stuff. Freeroaming anywhere except warehouse D.
And everyone's freakin exited the day when the first killing is shot. A boy, Emmet, is supposed to be eating the flesh of some headmaster and then a demon is supposed to drag him into the manhole and kill him, blood everywhere.
Davida is too exited, she boasts(Dervish says) that she created demons with circuits and shit which one would not believe to be a dummy.
And. ACTION.
*munch* *munch*
Yummy...
Blah.. Blah...
The demon comes out of the manhole and grabs Emmet, it looks so real, it pulls him down and rips him apart, raining blood all around, and Emmet goes like XP. Everyone claps.
But Grubbs doesn't.
That was just a dummy, fool. Wires, Plastic and paint.
Right?
WRONG!
---
PLOT: The plot is good, but it's not as captivating as the first two books. While those two had some undefined aim and a twist. This lacked both. There are lot of unnecessary stuff around. For example: the Lambs, some 3 chapters wasted on them, pointless.
The Ending was not so pleasant either(you could guess it easily). But you gotta give it in for the narrative style and the speech. They were awesome.
CHARACTERS: Grubbs Grady, much more likable than the first book. Bill-E Spleen, sticks around for a lot, wastes 2 chapters. Dervish, the man who lost his nuts, I didn't like him for the first half, then... Gradually he regains his senses and becomes the lovable epic demon-ass-kicker. Juni, a psychologist who has a softy softy spot for Derv the Perv.
And there are a lot of characters here, most of the movie cast are on. Can't remember most names.
Aaaaand
LORD LOSS!, Yay! He's back for Revenge. He's back for Grubbs and Dervish. Though he acts less nobler here(slaughtering people, sucking the life out of a little girl), he still is a demon of words. He promised someone something, he gives the something to the someone. But hell with it! I STILL LIKE HIM!
---
“But stories don't end. They continue as long as you're alive. You just have to get on with things. Turn the page, start a new chapter, find out what's in store for you next, and keep your fingers crossed that it's not too awful. Even if you know in your heart and soul that it most probably will be.”

That's about it, again.

The Demonata series is pretty great for teen horror fiction, but so much of what I don't like about the author's style seeped into this one, making it my least favourite of the series.
This book is just as fast-paced and fun as the previous two, but it lacks their depth. Lord Loss is barely in this one, and most of the story is devoted to a painfully slow realization that isn't nearly as clever as the ending to Demon Thief. It is briefly interesting to get to see the motivations of the Demonata's human quislings, but they're not very fascinating or realistic motivations in the end.
Grubbs is my least favourite of the three protagonists, as well, and this book is all Grubbs. He's not a very complex character for most of the series, and just feels like a juvenile author-avatar. Dervish and Grubbs also provide most of the humour in this series, which I don't care for at all. It can be a little cringe-worthy at times.
A lot of this book is devoted to both parody and un-ironic usage of horror movie clichés. I never really liked horror movies, so perhaps I was just missing that layer to the story, but a lot of what I dislike in the genre is present in this book.
So basically, I wouldn't recommend this at all. The problem is that you sort of have to read it if you want to go all the way through the Demonata series properly, and that I would recommend. It's a good series for younger readers and horror fans of all ages. If you've enjoyed the first two books, just wade through this and then it's all uphill from here. No worries.

I liked Slawter. I'm rating it 3 stars because Demon Thief, book #2, was really good and it set my expectations too high I guess.
Grubbs, Bill-E, and Dervish are back and raising hell again. This time in a town named Slawter, where a horror movie is being made.
In this book, Grubbs learns more about the Demonata while facing old enemies and about himself in regards to his magical powers.
Again, I listened to the audiobook which was really good. Congratulations are in order for voice actor Rupert Degas for doing an amazing job.
Favorite quote from the book:
I'm looking forward to the next book, Bec

Favorite quote from the book:
"Never trust fairy tales. Any story that ends with “They all lived happily ever after” is a crock. There are no happy endings. No endings, full stop. Life goes on. There’s always something new around the corner. You can overcome major obstacles, face great danger, look evil in the eye, and live to tell the tale — but that’s not the end. Life sweeps you forward, swings you around, bruises and batters you, drops some new drama or tragedy in your lap, never lets go until you get to the one true end — death. As long as you’re breathing, your story’s still going."
I'm looking forward to the next book, Bec

This book was about Grubs Grady and how he managed to live as an uncle-adopted orphan. His parents and sister got killed because his parents lost a deal to heal Lycanthropy (a term for werewolf transformation). The deal was with a demon who has no heart, no feelings, and feeds on sorrow (or what idiots call: Emo). This book tells how a boy takes care of his cousin, and becomes a movie star, only to see several genuine murders take place.
I really liked this book because it explains the personalities of the characters in the book VERY clearly and also how language should be used at the appropriate time. This book takes an average of about 2 days to read (took me about an hour and 40 minutes). Also, for the people who like murder and action, this is the book for them.
