"What is fair in a man, passes away, but not so in art"
~Leonardo Da Vinci
Wow, this book was really fascinating. This book was about Leonardo Da Vinci also known as the Renaissance man. Leonardo Da Vinci was a very, very gifted artist. Leonardo Da Vinci was born April 15 1452 and died on May 2 1519 at the age of 67. Leonardo Da Vinci is best known as the painter of the amazing Mona Lisa.Among the paintings created by Leonardo in the 16th century is the small portrait known as the Mona Lisa or "la Gioconda", the laughing one. Now when you see that picture her eyes would follow you and I don’t know how he created painting that could come to life like that. Now its a mystery about who is Mona Lisa, is she a women he saw, is she dream that he had, they say that its just a painting of himself but just a women. Will we ever know who she is? Probably not. Leonardo's most famous painting of the 1490s is The Last Supper, also painted in Milan. The painting represents the last meal shared by Jesus with his disciples before his capture and death. It shows specifically the moment when Jesus has said "one of you will betray me". Leonardo tells the story of the consternation that this statement caused to the twelve followers of Jesus. The Last Supper, I didn’t even know that Leonardo Da Vinci drew this painting I never thought that it was done by Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo was an excellent artist and his paintings will always be remembered without end. I would reconmend this amazing book to all readers that likes to find out more interesting things about history.
I absolutely was amazed by his story and I love how he inspired artist for years to come. He inspires me to do more and he inspired me to want to be an inventor. I like how he was a man of nature and was always creating and thinking of new stuff. He is the most inspiring and great person I ever learned about.
I liked this book quite a bit. It helped me write a Geometry paper, and simplified Leonardo da Vinci's life into 112 pages, which was surprising. A part of the book was his paintings and other creations, making the book much shorter.
Excellent resource for basics of davinci's life. Lots of great pictures with good explanations and analysis. A bit dry in its attempts to avoid turning conjecture into fact, but good overall.
Month: April Book title: Leonardo Da Vinci: Renaissance Genius Author: Barbara O’ Connor
Leonardo da Vinci is regarded as one of the greatest artists in history. He was not only skilled in art and sculpting but also brought many advances to science and thought of inventions far beyond his time. He was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Vinci. His father, Ser Perro, was a notary and his mother, Caterina, came from a peasant family. They were not married. Leonardo’s uncle may have helped to raise Leonardo more than either of his parents. When Leonardo was about 15 years old he moved to Florence and became an apprentice to the artist Andrea del Verrocchio. While at his studio, Leonardo helped paint the Baptism of Christ and eventually painted his own Annunciation. Around the age of 30, Leonardo left his apprenticeship and started the Adoration of the Magi. However, he never finished the painting and moved to Milan in 1482. Around 1495 Leonardo began his famous painting, The Last Supper. In 1500, Leonardo arrived in Florence, where he painted the Virgin with Child with Saint Anne. He also contributed to the huge engineering project of diverting the course of the River Arno, and also painted a giant war mural, the Battle of Angrahi, which was never completed. In 1505 Leonardo most likely made the first sketches for the Mona Lisa, but it is not known when he completed the painting. In 1506 Leonardo traveled to Milan at the request of Charles d'Amboise, the French governor. He became court painter and engineer to Louis XII and also worked on a second version of the Virgin on the Rocks. In 1513 he moved to Rome and then in 1516 he left Italy for France and served as a wise philosopher to King Francis I in Ambrose. He died three years later in 1519. Leonardo never married or had children He was famous during his lifetime because of his art work. However, there are only 15 of his original paintings left for people to admire.
Most people just think of Leonardo Da Vinci as an artist who painted paintings like the Mona Lisa or the Last Supper. However, he was also a very intellectual person who thought of great inventions and made a lot of interesting scientific discoveries. The theme of his life is centered around his unlimited desire for knowledge that guided all of his thinking and actions. His desire for knowledge helped Leonardo produce journals with over 13,000 pages of his observations of the world. He drew pictures of helicopters, war machines, hang gliders, and even musical instruments. Many of his drawings were on the subject of anatomy. He drew muscles, tendons, the human skeleton, heart, and other internal organs. Leonardo da Vinci was good at many things and is considered to be the ultimate Renaissance Man because of his desire for knowledge that guided all of his thinking and actions.
