The Svensson Brothers #2

On His Paintbrush

Rate this book

When I first laid eyes on the curvy brunette, she made me a drink then said I made her wet

I couldn’t pass up the invitation.

I wanted her to paint me like one of her French boys.

Before I walked out of her dinky small town café, I left my card, all black.

I'll show her—this billionaire can be very creative.

I am, after all, quite a talented finger painter!

Hazel

I turn weird and awkward around attractive men. I'm a nervous sweater, and when Archer walked into my art café that night, he was making me soaking wet. He was stupidly attractive—which caused me to go into excruciating detail about my sweating problem, insult what he had under his fig leaf, and imply I was running a brothel.

But he left his card, so I couldn’t have been all bad.

I needed the ego boost. My career as an artist was a joke. I was desperately trying to live the #bossbabe life after I couldn't hack it as an artist in New York City and moved back to my small hometown.

Now my business is failing.

I'm hosting an artists' retreat that is more day drinking octogenarians than renowned painters.

The mean girl from art school moved into town and is trying to ruin my life.

But hey, suffering is inspirational, right? But then so is Archer. With his model good looks and muscular, tattooed chest, Archer might be the creative, maybe even crazy, idea that I desperately need to save my disaster of a life.

So I called…And immediately regretted it.

When I yelled at him later about the practical joke, he smiled that stupid hot smile. I knew I should forget I ever met Archer Svensson—knew he was just a crazy stupid idea.

But when he said in that deep, sexy voice, "Do you want to paint me nude?" well, let's just say, he awoke the starving artist in me.

This standalone, full length romantic comedy has no cliffhangers! It features a boiling hot romance, the largest selection of hot brothers to ever grace your e-reader, and a heroine prone to making suggestive comments!

This is a case of it's not the book it's me (maybe?!)

I loooooove Alina Jacobs and the creative brothers who grew up in a cult plot but I want my MMCs either grumpy/emotionally constipated and mean OR cinnamon rolls/ sweet/ and super attentive and kind.

I don't like jokesters/ playboys/ clowns/ who live for the humor and yet they pretend they have some deep trauma/ who don't take themselves seriously/ Who prank the FMCs like freshmen juvenile man-children.

Also, I was sick of the innuendos about "On His Paintbrush" stuff!
Didn't care for the plot of this one or the MCs but it's going to be a good read for other people since it's not an inherently a bad book.

I hated this 🥰

Firstly there were way too many brothers that I still have no clue who was who. And the backstory for the brothers makes NO sense. They grew up in a cult and then in poverty but now they’re all billionaires?? Like how? It’s never explained. And Archer also NEVER WORKS like he owns this massive hotel chain yet I never even saw this man send an email

Also I don’t understand Hazel. She’s an artist but the whole plot orientated around her amazing food she makes not her art? And Archer kinda diminishes her art a lot, he brought one of her pieces “as a joke”

The sex scenes were also super repetitive and the same thing again and again. Like if there’s gonna be a sex scene in every chapter at least spice it up a little

I also found the plot was chaotic, there was so much happening and the third act breakup seemed silly. Oh your super evil ex girlfriend told me this thing about you and I instantly believed her even though she’s been trying to break us up since day one? Which talking about McKenna, I just hate the super evil catty ex trope

My favourite part were the art retreat scenes!! They were so fun and I did enjoy the combination of Archer’s brothers and the old ladies learning art together

There was waaay too much going on in this book. First and foremost, too many people. The names all started running together. Archer probably had about 20 brothers and there were tons of townspeople involved in the story. Next, too many backstory details. The author kept talking about Archer’s childhood and his relationship with McKenna, but we were only given snippets. I had to go back to the description to make sure I hadn’t skipped a book. We were given the abbreviated truth at about 95% and it was such a letdown. Third, the over the top sexual innuendos. It was almost like we were reading about a drunken frat party. The innuendos were nonstop, even in front of the kids. Lastly, the bedroom scenes. They started out pretty hot. Then they continued to almost every other chapter, but they all sounded the same! Both Archer and Hazel kept yelling out the exact same lines. This book took me almost a week to read and it should have taken 3 days max.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It’s definitely a raunchy read.

I found the premise for the story appealing and for the most part it was entertaining. Lots of cooky characters, some witty banter and amusing scenes. On the downside, there is very little character development. Hazel and Archer are basically the same people at the end of the book that they were at the beginning. No personal development and very little growth in their relationship, unless, you count the numerous, cringeworthy sex scenes. One minute you are reading a rom-com and the next you find yourself in the middle of a horribly scripted porn. It got to be really tiresome and annoying after a while and, added absolutely nothing to the story. In my opinion, this book is definitely not a standalone. There are many references to Hunter and Meg’s story as well as the background of the Svensson brothers with no explanation whatsoever. If you have not read the previous books in the series, you will be lost. Other than a few humourous moments, this book was mediocre at best. Two stars from me with an extra star for decent editing.

Billionaire/artist, playboy vs awkward around men, small town w/off the wall characters, interfering family and hot amazing spice!
This is a series of brothers from a LARGE family where each book a brother will get their HEA.

I love this type of book. No angst, comedy, hot billionaires with hot spice thrown in. Nice and light. Is it for everyone? No. But it is my cup of hot chocolate. I don't want to be sad or anxious with the books I read.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. However I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. But don’t let that deter you. This can be a stand-alone. But it will make you want to read all the other books!

t was interesting to see the differences between the twin brothers Archer and Mace after reading Mace's story in the first book. Archer was much more outgoing and loved to joke around. He had a reputation as a playboy. Hazel, an aspiring artist, tended to be socially awkward and flustered, especially around attractive men. She was having a difficult time making a go of a career in art and with her Art Cafe. After many setbacks in Manhattan, she'd returned to her hometown to open her Art Cafe business, which combined art and food, especially unique sandwiches, for sale. Her Art Cafe was floundering, she was behind on all of her bills and she was almost to the point of losing her business. Archer, whose company was based in Manhattan, was in town looking to purchase property to open a convention center and build several more hotels in the area to accommodate convention guests. Doing so was an uphill battle because Hazel's sister, the deputy mayor, who despised the Svenssons because of an disastrous former relationship with one of the other Svensson brothers, was one of the obstacles. A persistent, malicious ex of Archer's and Archer's selfish, unethical mother were determined to break up Archer and Hazel as they gradually grew closer and developed feelings for each other. While this was basically a solid story, there were some weak points. The sex scenes were more numerous than necessary. In some places, a second steamy scene would take places just 2-3 pages after a previous one. Some of them could have been eliminated without detracting from the story. Also, while I'm not a prude, the frequent use of the F bomb by both Archer and Hazel during those scenes could also have been eliminated. I did enjoy the closeness between the brothers despite their frequent, teasing put-downs of each other, the outrageous senior citizens who were clients of Hazel's art retreat. I do plan to read the remainder of the series.

This series is fun enough if you’re in the right mood, but I found it repetitive by the time I finished this second book. The characters, the sex, the corny metaphors, the references to Instagram...

The conceit of all the brothers being born into a polygamist cult wore very thin and really wore down my enjoyment, mainly because of how the women have been portrayed in the series so far. The mothers have been painted with a shallow sort of villainy, and whatever sisters the male protagonists had, and left behind in said cult are forgotten, ignored, or apparently not the male characters’ concern. Considering how it’s repeated that the Svensson brothers suffered living there, how their mothers were groomed then became negligent parents while the father abused the boys, it’s a pretty grim scenario that didn’t contrast well with the otherwise aww-shucks silliness of the rest of the book. It’s a very Smurfette on a pedestal book: the female love interests are the only women the male protagonists seem to value. It disengaged me as a reader a lot. Thinking below the surface of these characters is problematic.

I wouldn’t read this series in a row because of the repetition and troubling aspects. It’ll be a while before I try book #3 (holding out hope that the abandoned sisters maybe get mentioned again). In small doses, okay, but this is the type of book I read with Kindle Unlimited, not buy outright.

It took me awhile to decide what to read before I picked up On His Paintbrush. I’d been really restless and I’d pretty much start a book just to put it down not long after. It was starting to get really frustrating, but as I was scrolling through my kindle, I saw all the little short stories I had from Ms. Jacobs and I thought I’d check out her books since it’s been some time since I last read her. I’ve wanted to get back into The Svensson Brothers series, so I read a little bit of the synopsis and sample of On His Paintbrush, downloaded it and success! I finished it and really loved it!

I was trying to think if I loved it more than In Her Candy Jar, but I think I loved them the same but for different reasons. I didn’t laugh as hard or as frequently with On His Paintbrush, but it still highly amused me and did make me laugh out loud more than once. I so appreciated that it was pretty low on angst and while there were some frustrating moments, they didn’t last long and weren’t that big of deal. On His Paintbrush was just a super light, fun, entertaining, easy-to-read book and was exactly what I needed right now! I don’t know if I’ll read book three next, but I’m definitely excited to read it whenever I do decide to pick it up!

Another book with the same plot as the others, this time with terrible paint brush puns. I don't know about you, but if I'm dating a guy I'm really hoping he's thicker than a paint brush handle, unless it's like a paint roller.
Despite the terrible and over the top innuendos and puns, this book features Archer's story with Hazel. Hazel is the sister of Meg, who is featured in a later book. Hazel's description had me laughing, but I don't think the author meant it to be funny, but her description as an army like militant figure while also being quirky and weird just made no sense.
There is a female character named McKenna that is mentioned pretty much as often as Hazel and at some point, I was kind of rooting for McKenna to get her man, because why feature a random character as much as a main character?
Also, I admire the author's determination to make every parent a villain in the story and feature 47,000 family members that really don't add anything to the plot. Now, I know that the author will continue to make these books in perpetuity.
I don't know if I hate myself for still reading these books knowing the game the author is playing, but alas, I can not rate this book higher than a 3, because it's basically just a repeat of book 1 with names changed and adjectives in the sex scenes swapped.

I really loved this story. It may be my favorite of Alina’s books although I’m still working my way through all of them. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. There were plenty of times that I wanted to smack some of them upside the head. I did want more comeuppance for McKenna and Merla Vee. They both irritated me. Hazel was talented, funny, and sweet. She drove me up a wall! I yelled at her a lot. There were so many times that I wanted her to just talk to Archer but I also understood her dilemma. To be honest, I would probably react the same way she did. Archer was a big kid a good portion of the time or at least he seemed to want his family and others to think that. In reality, Archer was very smart, talented, and positive. He knew what he wanted and did what he could to make sure that it happened. Archer and Hazel together were fun. Their banter had me cracking up. The romance was sometimes sweet but always steamy. I liked how the story ended. I loved the epilogue “Paint Him”. It was exactly what the story needed. I recommend reading this book.

You can also listen to it and I recommend that you do that as well. The narrators did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. It was wonderful listening to them.

I am not sure about this series, This book was exactly the same as the other book we have a Svensson brother who is insanely rich, has a giant family, no serious relationship who falls for a financially broke girl who wants a big family and knows cooking.

Change the part where Maze was a serious guy Archer is entire the opposite of his twin, Hazel is a struggling artist /cafe owner who falls for the guy even when he treated her like trash when he thought she was a golddigger. Even taking the girl shopping part was the same.I like the character of Ida ,she made me laugh a lot.

And again with the steamy scenes, even that was entirely the same as the other book even with the artistic titbits, the author seems to have changed the candy innuendos to art innuendos.
but I think I am gonna give this series another chance, if that too is the same I am quitting for sure.

this book is great as a standalone but it will surely make you bored when you are following the series and the part with Hunter and Meghan is also so getting on my nerves

she was wonderful he was awful

I loved Hazel so much. She was cute and strong even though her life was a struggle. She seemed genuine and as if she was genuinely trying to do her best. Archer was a child. He was selfish, immature, usually thoughtless and often mean. I know we were meant to see him as a goofy rebel that can’t conform but I just saw him as disrespectful. He never saw her as a person, her empty restaurant or her distance from her family. He never asked her questions. He was rude and unkind to his family even though they all kept fixing things for him. There was no one deserving of Archer’s full attention except Archer. She was an object, a new thing for him to have handed to him after almost no effort. Like the hair products he bullied his brothers to make or the hotel business he did nothing to support. Everyone around him worked hard at jobs then came home at working hard at taking care of the family. He did neither. Hazel deserved better.

Great Book! I loved Archer! I Also love these brothers! I liked that the characters are not soooo obsessed with food….just a bit which is fine. I started the book not liking Hazel, because I thought that she was going to be more like Meg (who I find really stupid for not being able to solve her problems), but she is more likable, her life is a mess, but she is conscious of the succession of bad decision and starts the book letting you know that she want to solve her problems and she is not waiting for someone to solve them for her (which was Josie’s problem….all her book her friends and her looking for someone to solve everything and not dealing with all her stuff). I laughed a lot with the second part of the book, which kept me interested on it. I prefer the women characters more like Liz Davenport, nevertheless the book was great and I really recommend this book!

Art

XXX! Adult content, reader discretion advised. Art is subjective at best. Because art is in the eye of the beholder. In Denver there is a giant red penis made from clumps of cum drops or droopy boobs that lights up at night. It’s called “National Velvet” and the city paid $50,000 for it. Some would argue it’s not art. Some would argue it is art and reflects society’s sexual acceptance of others. I wonder if on the art walk if Hazel had any controversial art pieces. Ida and Archer would most definitely have been on board with pushing buttons. Hazel and Archer were pulled together by art and food. I would argue the food is an art unto itself. Art saved their relationship and business deal. Love saved the art and food. Enjoy the laughs along the way with the various Svensson antics and the hot sexy romance between Hazel and Archer.

I love this book, it was cute, fun, little bit of drama, with a very sexy cocky overconfident Archer. Hazel is so hard working, sweet, good friend, and cracked me up so much when she first met Archer and even when she met his brother’s. I enjoyed reading about them getting to know each other and about her art classes, the different characters in the town and loved reading about Meg and Hunter and wished they would make up. I enjoyed still reading more about Josie and Mace and Chloe and Jack, what a fun twist to the story. Just like most of her other books in the series I feel like there was too many sex scenes, one after the other just to fill space. I kind of wish that the book was either shorter or there was more content about the actual characters or more about the brothers.

Finally the pattern has been broken! A couple with open communication, understanding, and forgiveness that did NOT require a grand and/or expensive gesture. I have enjoyed this author's books but the extreme dramatics were getting old.

Archer and Hazel are a cute couple. They didn't all madly in love within days of meeting. This book takes place over months which I appreciate. Their growth is natural and he opens up about his past more so than his brother.

The antagonist in this book held very little power as both Archer and Hazel remained rational. They had insecurities and admitted they were frazzled but never went off the deep end as other characters have.

This was a funny, sexy, and endearing story. Can't wait for the next.

Alina Jacobs writes great RomComs that are very spicy!

On His Paintbrush was unexpectedly heartwarming with a lot of great scenes about our lovably messy Hazel, an art cafe owner in her small hometown in New York, and Archer Svensson, one of the older of the many brothers (if you haven’t read her series before, there’s quite an interesting background with the father and many children), and twin to the main character from book one.

The pair are extremely mis-matched and no one believes this more than Archer’s ex and Hazel’s nemesis, who does her best to split up their budding relationship.

It’s a fun read made better by the great narration by Samantha Summers and Alexander Cendese. They have done the other books in the series and always do a great job.

very cute Svensson family saga continued

Reading the previous books in the series is helpful for maximum enjoyment. It helps with perspective. Asher is the fun loving playboy billionaire twin brother to Mace. The Svensson brothers take care of each other. There are multiple brothers friends, girlfriends, ex girlfriends, and a mother. Hazel is an artist and cafe owner struggling to keep her business going. There is chemistry between the opposite personalities of Hazel and Archer. Ida the senior citizen is Randy, crude and hysterical. You laugh, wonder what the evil people are up to and then cheer the HEA.

On His Paintbrush (Svensson Brothers #2) by Alina Jacobs – Despite Meg and Hunter’s rivalry, Hazel and Archer have a slightly better start to their bumpy relationship. Hazel’s Art Café business may be on the brink of collapse, but if the town gets to host a prestigious art conference it will be good for the entire town. Archer gets nominated to the committee to land he conference to promote Svensson interests, but his real interest soon revolves around Hazel. I love this bonkers family! Happy Reading!

Book two was just as good as book one! Archer is so different from his brother. He seems much more adventurous and takes the risk whereas his brother always had things planned out. The flirtatious banter between Archer and Hazel made the storyline that much sweeter. I did start to feel bad for Archer though, and Hazel, with her nervousness keeping either of them from making a move on each other, but when they did, the spice level was kicked up. I can’t wait to dive into more Alaina Jacobs books and more of the Svensson Brothers.

well…..

Not a bad book. It’s got lots of detailed sex in it. Seems the main couple couldn’t be in the same room together without going at it like bunnies. It was a bit much. This has the same formula as some of the others in the series, complete with a crazy ex. Frequent use of the f bomb, even in the female main character, which added nothing to the story, but instead detracted from it.

So far this is my favorite out of the The Svensson's brothers series. Obviously I have many more to read but I really liked this one. The romance and spice didn't happen too fast and when there was an issue or miscommunication between Archer and Hazel there wasn't a big grand gesture they just talked it out and I like that. Makes it seem more real. Obviously if you're a billionaire you're able to do grand gesture but sometimes just talking it out and listening to each other is enough.

This was great for what I was looking for, a fun romance. I know I should be clearing out my TBR but once I saw the title and author I knew this is what I currently needed. All the double entendres are good, some repedative, but they are well placed. This was also my first attempt at annotating but it didn't work because I was listening and reading at the same time. I had to constantly pause the audio to highlight on my kindle.

I thought this was going to be my favorite cause I thought archer was my favorite brother. But this one so far as been my least favorite. (I read them a little out of order at first) I just felt the characters were a little dull in this one. Or maybe it was all the hype for archer and then I “got to know him” and the mystery went away lol. I still love the series but this one is just eh.

love Archer & Hazel

These Harrogate Svensson’s are super cool. Archer is sweet and kind of silly compared to Mace. Hazel was so determined and it made me so sad to see her give up her dreams. I’m so glad Meg talked her into fighting for Archer. It makes me believe there is hope for her and Hunter. Looking forward to whatever comes next!

Struggling artist with a student debt, three years of little success in New York City working
as a sous chef to scrape by. Finally gives up when her roommate moves away. She moves back to her small town. Opening a niche little cafe to make food and sell her art. The problem is it's a small town and she is still losing her financial battle.

A Fun and Sexy Read

I liked the way Archer and Hazel got to know one another a bit before they jumped into sex. Alina really knows how to build the tension. Hazel is very likable and it’s so much fun to read about a new love meshing with other girlfriends and the family. You’re guaranteed a happily ever after and I love that. Life has enough angst. I want happy!

More about Harrogate and the billionaire Svenssons.

Story of Hazel an artist who owns a failing art cafe and Archer, Mace's twin, who is trying to building a convention center and hotels. Lots of Meg and Hunter animosity, Archer's ex, who is also a former classmate of Hazel and Archer's mom from hell.

Lots of food references - so don't read if you're hungry!

Fun hilarious read. Characters are hilarious. This Archers story but you do get to meet his brothers. I’m loving these brothers. Moving on to the next book in this series. If you’re looking for a fun hot romance this is the book for you. Make sure you read Masons story too.
