A rabbit-obsessed narrator makes an owl increasingly irate by refusing to play by the rules of a conventional alphabet book. Every entry is about bunnies, from "delightful, dynamic, daredevil rabbits" to "xylophone rabbits and rabbits on drums!" Readers will pore over scenes of bunnies at the circus, in a tiny town, at the museum, even in a motorcycle gang. Author-illustrator Hannah Batsel takes readers on a delightful romp through the alphabet and keeps them laughing all the way to the ridiculously fun conclusion.
What a fantastic book! The illustrations are amusing in themselves, but the slightly sassy bunnies make it even better. Do yourself a favour and pick this up for the tiny humans in your life (or just for yourself). Much love to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for my DRC.
As the owner of an adorable and mischievous rabbit, I proudly support the message that this book brings: Rabbits are awesome.
Owl with a briefcase (no name is given for this character) is a firm believer in following appropriate “A is for …” rules, such as ‘apple’ or ‘astronaut’. But no matter how hard he tries Owl can’t convince the narrator of the alphabet to stay on task. Letter after letter the narrator finishes the sentence with a phrase related to rabbits. Rabbits. Rabbits. Rabbits. What really makes this book fun is the end of the sentence doesn’t always end quickly, but instead becomes a long, rambling sentence about rabbits. Other times there isn’t a sentence at all, but a question instead (about rabbits, of course).
Poor Owl, the more tries to get the narrator to perform the alphabet correctly, the more he fails. The more he fails to navigate the alphabet back to something normal the more exhausted and worn out he gets. The pictures really bring this to life as we get the visual image of how dizzy he’s feeling on the inside. Not to mention that the rabbits leap off every page increasing in number as the book goes on.
Overall, I think young kids will really get a good laugh out of the book while learning the alphabet. The pictures are fun and there is a lot of activity within the pictures with a lot of “look at what that one is doing” opportunities.
Rating: 4.5 stars

This is a fun twist on an alphabet book. It's probably suitable for older children (not the ones who typically read alphabet books) because of the more complex narrative and the advanced vocabulary. This isn't a straight "A is for apple" sort of book. In fact, from the very first entry, the genre is turned on its head.
An owl is trying to explain the alphabet. But some bunnies take over and make the book all about them. Everything has to do with rabbits. The owl gets frustrated, and just when he thinks he's gotten the upper hand... things go south. The poor guy ends up amusingly frazzled, while the rabbits take over.
There's lots to look at in the pictures, and plenty of fun details to be found. There are so many different types of leporine characters in the book (from robot rabbits to Picasso-style bunnies) that readers will probably find something new with each read.
While I'm often wary of books like this because the intended audience is unclear (Will toddlers "get it"? Will older kids even want to read an alphabet book?), I think this one is worth checking out. At the very least, it offers some fun pictures to look at (and you might learn a few new words, too).

Thanks to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. Loved this book! All my kids are grown and I have no grandchildren, so I read this to my dog as he sits on my lap. A fun concept of Mr. Owl teaching us the Alphabet and his attempts being hijacked by a rabbit who turns every letter into rabbit/bunny/kit or trait. Loved the illustrations and is definitely a book that I will reread myself and to my dog, who also appeared to have loved the book! Great job Hannah Batsel, loved your passion for rabbits and how you turned a simple A-B-C alphabet book into a fun reading experience!
This book is so much fun. If you love rabbits, you will love this book. The wise owl wants to teach us about the alphabet using a traditional alphabet book. Rabbit has other ideas. Who knew you could write a whole alphabet book using words for rabbits or character and descriptive traits. This book had my grandson in stitches. He did not know what all the vocabulary meant, but we waited until we reread it to discuss that. The first time through he just listened and looked at the illustrations. The vocabulary in this book was exceptional. So many great descriptive words to teach for use in conversation or future writing. The illustrations were wonderful. So many rabbits of different sizes, types and colours, many doing amazing things. I wish I had this book when I was teaching my students about writing stories and making books. So many traditional alphabet books crossed my desk, this would have awakened their imagination. This is definitely a book for any school and public libraries, especially to use as a mentor text. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
A is for Another Rabbit is a funny picture book jam-packed with loads of mischievous rabbits. Owl is trying to write an alphabet book and then the rabbits get involved and make ALL the letters about rabbits. Owl gets more and more frustrated with these bunnies taking over.
This book made my 6 year old laugh. It was similar to Mo Willem's Pigeon books in that the owl reacts to the bunnies narrative/writing/takeover. So if your kid likes those sort of fun, silly reads, I recommend this one. Lots of great opportunity here for funny voices while reading aloud.

Kids will enjoy listening to this book be read out loud. It is silly, irreverent, and full of high level vocabulary words. Parents and story time providers will want to stop and ask kids what they think various words mean and should read ahead of time as I even found one word I didn't know: obstreperous. The tone of "A Is For Another Rabbit" reminded me of a lot of "BE QUIET!" by Ryan T. Higgins, which has been a hit when I've done story times with older kids. The illustrations are vibrant and detailed. Read individually at home, I think parents could give challenges of "find the _____" to engage children even further.

This is one of those sorts of books that makes me wish I still had young children at home that I could share this with. The humor is just shy of being too silly.
The basic premise is that this is a normal ABCs book, that is going to be told by a wise old owl, that is, until the rabbit, who is off screen, takes over. And then, all the pages have bunnies, because, well, you can use the letter G to talk about gorgeous rabbits, and you can use the letter C to say "Can you believe how many rabbits there are?"
This would be a good book for parent and child to read together, and look at all the different things that rabbits are doing, and have sympathy for the poor owl.

By all accounts, A is for Another Rabbit by Hannah Batsel should have been an outrageously hilarious children's book about crazy rabbits taking over owl's alphabet. In a way, this book does sort of follow that theme. Unfortunately, it is not anything I would call hilarious and I do genuinely think that anyone reading it would have to work somewhat hard to have their children laughing.
My main reason for seeing this book as not-so-great is the fact that there are far too many words peppered throughout that a young child simply would not recognize or understand. Add in the fact that it bungles the purpose of an alphabet book by not clearly addressing each and every letter and this book was honestly kind of disappointing.
The artwork, however, was absolutely adorable. The rabbits that filled the pages were cute and funny at times, leaving me rather pleased with at least the look of the story. Owl was perfect as a character and the general idea behind the book was brilliant. It's just unfortunate that its execution was lacking.

An another ABC book, but this one has a kind of story through it. Very humorous, and some letters might have been force a bit in it, but everything fit and the funny humor side to it might help some kids remembers it. Fun and original! Good job!
A is for Another Rabbit is the most adorable children's alphabet book that I have ever read! It is fun and engaging. While it is focused on rabbits, it also works through vocabulary words that precocious little readers will imitate with humor.
This book is hilarious!! I absolutely loved this one! I will definitely purchase for my elementary library and use it as a read aloud. I can hear the laughing already.
This is not your typical alphabet books and readers can tell from the very beginning. While it does follow the sequence of the alphabet, the higher levels of vocabulary mean it may not be suitable for the young children that typically read alphabet books. A is for Another Rabbit will definitely provide humor to any student regardless of age with rambunctious rabbits filling every page. The amazing illustrations also help to show the downward spiral of the poor owl narrator who is simply trying to write his alphabet book. This book is perfect to show students that there can be twists and turns on every page and not every book is as it seems.
Well, this was certainly fun, even if I can't see its immediacy and instant wit allowing for many return visits over an extended period. Our invisible narrator wants every single entry in their A-Z for young readers to be about rabbits, which is bad news for the wise, grey old owl that thinks he's in control of things. Some bits of rhyme (perhaps it should have been all or nothing, mind) and a heck of a lot of meta sort-of fourth wall breaking all make up the jollity, while the adult reader checking this through will love the art gallery towards the end. Certainly four stars, even with the one joke nature of it all.
A Is for Another Rabbit by Hannah Batsel is a fun and engaging book celebrating rabbits throughout the alphabet. Batsel's clever word choice and sassy Owl character made both young and adult readers smile as each page is turned. The illustrations are beautiful, colourful and leave so much to look at and point out as you read. I would definitely read this book with my son!
This is an adorably story that will be sure to be a bedtime or story time favorite. You can incorporate other activities into the silliness by asking your child to help you find or count how many rabbits they see. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend this to parents and grandparents. Thank you to # netgalley and the publisher for this truly delightful children’s book.

This book was too funny. The owl wants to make a traditional alphabet book, but the rabbits have taken over. Fun text and pictures. Great creative ways to add the rabbits to the pages. I loved it.
Another silly alphabet book. Dr. Owl is upset that every letter in this alphabet book features rabbits (often through great stretches of adjectives describing rabbits, etc). Things get more and more hectic and Dr. Owl is completely overwhelmed with rabbits by the end. Silly and funny--kids with more of a grip on their alphabet letters already will probably get the biggest kick out of it.
This is a funny take on an alphabet book. Rabbits everywhere and owl is not happy. It is such a fun way to introduce or reinforce the alphabet with children. Practice letters and counting with this silly rabbit book.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this book in exchange for this honest review.
What a riotously humorous alphabet book about rabbits. The book starts off sedately with a distinguished owl in a rocking chair who tries desperately to keep the alphabet book on track. The other narrator is never identified directly but is assumably the author/illustrator who works rabbits into nearly every letter of the alphabet. Charming book. My younger students will love this one!
In our neck of the northern Michigan woods, the wild rabbits have huge appetites for . . . everything. No item is safe from their voracious desire to sample a range of perennial plants and shrubs, regardless of the season. They are both clever and determined despite the use of carefully placed and secured netting and burlap wrap.
Most of them are the normal size of wild rabbits but one or two are rather large which confirms their considerable abilities not only in enjoying a banquet of edibles but in eluding the prevalent raptors and coyotes. It's hard to know how many there are in residence, but their frequent appearances indicate their numbers are growing. A is for Another Rabbit (Carolrhoda Books, an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group, April 7, 2020) written and illustrated by Hannah Batsel is an alphabet adventure gone awry due to an overabundance of bunnies. Trust me when I relate that this is no laughing matter to one particular owl, but the hares find it hilarious (and you will, too.)
Who doesn't love funny and charmingly aggravating rabbits! This is not your traditional ABC book. Every letter is not highlighted in a big bold font and, as the story goes on it devolves into wascally wabbit chaos, the letters are used much more loosely. But, it is totally that kind of book.
Before you start to read be prepared to do voices - your kids will like it so much more! You need a fun freewheeling Lagomorph-loving rabbit voice and an uptight losing-it owl (as a parent you should be able to channel that one pretty easily).
What I loved about the book is that it is fun, does not take itself too seriously, and mixes in big words (like tenacious, rambunctious, and obstreperous). The art is great! Our poor owl, who is just trying to make a nice alphabet book, is a perfect foil to the copious amount of lighthearted rabbits. The only thing I did not love is the font that was used for the owl. Really not a big deal.
Overall, a fun book that would be fun to read again and again. Especially, if you love rabbits!
A is for another Rabbit by Hannah Bateson. I could not get the kindle version of this book to work. I really liked the story I found it very cute. Would be a great book for people looking for books about rabbits 🐇 I loved all the colors in the pictures I found it hilarious at times. The next time I go see my grandchildren I will read it to them to see what they think. They are 11 and 12 so may be too old for the story. My eight year old grandson is in Minnesota right now. He is usually the one I read children’s stories too though soon I will have a new granddaughter I will read to. I would love to have the actual book and see all the colors.
How do you spell fun? R-a-b-b-i-t! This is easily going to be one of my all time favorite abc books. It’s all about rabbits, but not in the way you think. The rabbits are pulling control fro. The wise owl. It’s awesome. A funny five star read.
