Kid Normal and the Loudest Library - World Book Day 2020

This is the epic, never-before-told story of the Super Zeroes' first ever active mission as real-life superheroes! A brilliant new mini-adventure in the bestselling, award-winning Kid Normal series, exclusively for World Book Day 2020.

Join Murph Cooper and the Super Zeroes as they team up with wonderful school librarian and secret superhero Mrs Fletcher (whose special power is that her head can turn into a foghorn) to foil a dastardly, 1000-decibel plot.

When Mrs Fletcher's friend Margaret disappears from her duties as town librarian, it's clear that there's something strange afoot. A librarian never deserts their post! Plus the library has suddenly started hosting a whole host of ludicrously loud events. Cow choirs, pneumatic drill masterclasses, stamping competitions ... could a dastardly criminal be using the library to cover up a crime of epic proportions?

It's up to Murph, Mary, Hilda, Billy and Nellie to get to the bottom of this mega-loud mystery.

It is time for the Super Zeroes to have their first mission!

OMG, thank you Amazon for having this book (and a few others). Every year during World Book Day I am looking forward to several books and praying to the Amazon Gods that they will have it in stock. This year I was lucky! I couldn't wait to see how my favourite super hero team would be doing their first mission, and most importantly, what it was going to be! Robots? A brand-new supervillain?

Our group just got accepted to the organisation when they get their first mission! They need to help someone out and it is important. Sadly, they quickly find out that their first mission may just be a dud, and I felt so sorry for them. I get that they are new to this whole thing, that they are still not a super super team with tons of things under their belt, BUT I wanted them to have the best mission ever for their first mission. Thankfully, I shouldn't have worried as the story became very exciting very fast. There is something going on in the library and it makes a lot of noise. I loved Hilda's reaction when they discovered what was happening, girl same! I would also totally fangirl on everything and cry when the battle begins and things get destroyed (why in every battle do things have to get destroyed?).

I loved the villain, I loved his plans (they were so evil and fun) and I loved how our team took action and formed a plan. Each one of them was an important part of making things work and I just love that. Yes, the team still needs to learn communication and listening to a leader, but in overall they were doing a great job and I was cheering loudly for them.

It was absolutely brilliant that librarians are all superheroes in this book, though I did feel sorry for the librarian's cape in this one. That mustn't be the most fun of capes.

The ending, oh my, I loved it! I was grinning and laughing because the organisation thought it would just be a piece of cake mission with nothing happening... haha.

There are also illustrations spread throughout this short story and like with all the other books in the series I love them! Their style is just so fun!

All in all, a short but oh so fun story that you will read in one go. I loved that this was written and I loved the theme of the mission. I wouldn't mind more of these novellas for this series.

I saw this book and part 5 of the series (with green sprayed edges) in a charity shop and immediately said "I 'm going to buy this!!" I've read parts 1 & 2 in Dutch and really liked them. It's a superfunny and thrilling book, I like puns so I thought the word Superzeroes hilarious. I admire that Murph (Kid Normal) isn't jealous of their powers, because I would be. The illustrations are great and I really liked the story!

This is a fun-filled book about a team of superheros battling against a fearsome Roman gold stealer in an ancient temple underneath the library. It all starts when their teachers' friend Margaret was missing from the library. Kid Normal and his crew of superheros set out on an adventure to find Margaret but it's not as simple as they thought as a secret is hiding within the temple. I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed book and loved reading about their powers, for example Balloon boy can inflate/deflate any object if he puts his mind to it.

“Kid Normal and the Loudest Library” is a World Book Day 2020 book.

The book follows the Super Zeroes, the youngest team of superheroes ever to be accepted into the Heroes’ Alliance, on their first mission. All of them have powers except for Murph Cooper, aka Kid Normal, whose superhero capability is “None”, but who is the leader of the group.

Their first mission comes through on the phone: “Attention, Super Zeroes. Please proceed as directed to the library at the School. An operative will meet you there who requires assistance on a seek-and-apprehend mission. They will provide further information. Alliance out.”

And thus the adventure begins, and where it might sound a bit boring being a library-based adventure, it isn’t (the library setting is an appropriate setting for a WBD book anyway).

The other Super Zeroes have quirky powers – “producing tiny horses, ballooning yourself… flying with the aid of an umbrella” and the whole story is quirky and funny in places with good characters, like a PE teacher who is like a Sergeant Major, and a librarian who is prim and proper and loves her job.

There are plenty of jokes too, e.g. a letter entitled “Villain Names: An Apology” after a villain stealing Roman gold is named Roman Goldstealer, and some in-jokes about authors writing books for WBD, and adverts to the other books in the series incorporated into the text. There is a sense of fun throughout.

This is one of a number of Kid Normal stories and is a good intro to the world, supplemented along the way with a few black-and-white illustrations. It should be cheap too as it is a WBD book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

There’s good points of the story but it found a lot of ways to make me stop reading.
The pacing is weird and the non funny funny jokes which are actually not funny are too much to bear.
Things are over simplified or over explained at some points and at others the repetition is simply ridiculous. There are whole paragraphs that are useless. For every one that’s funny or insightful, there’s two that have no reason being there.
It could be a lot better but it’s not.
Even imagining reading this at the actual target age I know for the most part the same things would’ve bugged me.

I absolutely adore the Kid Normal series. Such a fun and brilliant read. Though I think this book felt more of a filler to the other books. Still enjoyable, but just needed a bit more. I highly recommend this book series and wished it was around for me to read when I was younger.

Vignette which acts as a mini-episode after the first book. Should hook any kids unsure of reading - sad that the series came to an end in 2020!

Not the best of the series but obviously a thrown together short story as a stop gap to the others.

Explains the heroes first mission as a group with the premise of many more to come

Light-hearted and humourous novel for children. I can almost hear Greg James' voice in the narrative, such is the canny likeness of tone to his radio presence!
