One moment I was leaving work, the next I was entertaining a silvery-green alien intent on knowing me fully.

Their invasion of our world nonviolent, seamless.

They dress as human men, eat in human restaurants, vote, pay taxes, and are controlling every last one of us.

I don’t understand how no one else can see what I see? That their beauty is a trap.

They have come here for women, intent on creating life partners—through seduction, mental manipulation, employing muscular bodies capable of fulfilling any female desire. Shaping themselves to our wants.

Until we’ve each been claimed, marked, and changed. Assimilated.

We don't have a choice. They can make us like it. They can make us desire them. They can make us do anything they want.

A complete mindf*ck and I mean that in the best way.

“Your film industry has conditioned you to think extraterrestrials only seek out Earth to invade, steal your resources, and commit genocide.”

So this was a really enjoyable and different short read.
Phi and Emily, he's an alien newly arrived on earth, she is the human that has captured his attention.
Emily also feels an instant connection to Phi despite him being a totally different species.
So Earthmen are dying out, they are not living past 40 years and the women of Earth now vastly outnumber them.
The aliens arrived in their ships a year ago, they arrived peacefully and without a shred of violence or any manner of force.
Are they genuine or do they have a hidden agenda they are not revealing this is what Emily is silently asking herself and she can't understand why no one else is doing the same.
Until her questions are finally answered in the form of her very own alien lover Phi.
So wow this was all kinds of strange and imaginative and just so very unique, got so say I bloody loved it.
It's not an exceptionally long story (novella Length) but every word had a purpose and It was just so unusual and distinct.
It also has some super alien sexy bits that were dang hot and heavy.
This one also had a much sweeter vibe to it than we are used to from this author it was slightly different from her usual style but just as good as we've come to expect.
I am hoping we may get more from this new world in the future, fingers crossed.
So yep really enjoyed this one: thumbs up, folks.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Strangeways.

Not a bad read, but too short to be a great one either. Even in its expanded form (from an anthology) it's 20k words. Weirdly, it dragged in some places and then seemed to speed in others. The sex scenes weren't as good as I've come to expect from this author and there was no real conflict or drama, so the story had no climax.

To be perfectly honest, I would prefer that Cain complete one of the many ongoing series she currently has instead of constantly starting new ones/releasing standalones that are just lengthened versions of pre-existing material.

This is an amazing "alien invasion"/"end of the world as we know it"/ "alien boys love girls next door" book.

If you like stories with
aliens
aliens with weird body parts
aliens with tentacles
aliens who don't force and don't manipulate but only make "suggestions" (...as if)

Then
You will most probably love this story.

$3.99 for 86 pages is too much. I really hope other authors don't copy this shit.

lol I'm coming back to this review because it's a little harsh. I look forward to giving this book a try when/if the price ever comes down :-)

Alien-invasion-abo story.

Men on Earth are dying and aliens (males) are landing in millions.
Phi, the green, streaky alien is sweet and calm >> so much so that he gave me the chills.
The down on her luck h is smart enough to be leery of the green man who promises the earth and more to her.
Then we learn of the mind-fokking. And more...
Thennn ... all is good.

Little half-baked for me. Many things unexplained and unanswered.
(Anyone with a tentacle fetish?)

That was 72 pages of perfection!

There’s something so utterly addictive about Addison Cain’s writing, and her prose immediately sucked me in to the story. Strangeways a dark, erotic sci-fi novella with a dystopian setting, and now having read three books this year with that exact same combination, I can say that this one was my favorite. I loved the aspects of psychological horror and mindfuckery woven into the story, even though I would still label this a romance and not a horror story. Phi reminds me quite a bit of Shepherd from Born to be Bound, as he often makes questionable decisions for Emily (even though he has her best interests in mind—I think? 👀🤣).

“You’re special, Emily. Resistant to suggestion. You see things the rest of your kind cannot.”

That niggling thought that had twisted in my brain from the day the ships landed, I had to say it out loud. “Because this is an invasion.”

“It is.”

I highly recommend this! I ate this up in less than 3 hours (with frequent interruptions).

“Tell me what you want. Give me the opportunity to prove I can make you happy.”

The earth is under an alien invasion and Emily is a waitress who struggles to get by. She's got a lot of things on her mind - like the fact that the human males seem to not get much past 30 suddenly, her brother's gambling problems along with his dependency on her to feed and house his own wife and kids.

The world-building is interesting and I liked it. Phy is one of these aliens who has invaded earth and finds Emily suitable to become his...human mate.

Phy is not like human males though...

To be honest I didn't really see that much of the romance aspect here. I read this novella with a small sick feeling in my stomach, hehe. Not everything is as it seems and I felt that this was almost more like a thriller where not all is as it seems than it's a romance.

It was almost funny how simply he spoke of managing my life… as if he had a right to do it. “I’m not a pet, Phi. You can’t just take me off the street and keep me.” He turned his black shutter eyes full upon me and said, “But you want to come to my home, don’t you? You want to know more about me?” The markings on his face were darker than I remembered, distracting. Even his jaw seemed more masculine, more human. Had he always had full lips? Suddenly cloudy, my attention was totally lost on where we were or what we’d been talking about. “What?”

Phy is caring for Emily, but as with everything, there is a reason for that. Romance has in my eyes nothing to do with his caring - there is a suspense feeling throughout - which I did like.

I felt like I was kept on my toes throughout the story and I enjoyed that.

Emily is a strong female, her mind is stronger than what he thought, among other things.

The sex is great, he's very..shall we say...giving? hehe. But our dear Phy is not equipped like human males. ;)

Stuffed full of writhing alien sex organ, pinched and prodded by a series of tentacle things, I’d caught my legs behind the knee and braced against the onslaught. I’d obeyed.

There is definitely an interesting alien cock here - which I found enjoyable to read about. So shoot me - but there you have it. ;)

All in all, I decided to give this novella 3*. I did like it, but it's not the best I have read from Addison Cain - I liked it for what it is, a short novella that had me slightly nervous about Phy's actual intentions but at the same time kept me captivated and I wanted to read more. The sex was interesting and a "new" experience.

Normally I devour everything from Addison Cain and though I don't think this novella is bad, it just didn't strike me the same way as some of her other work. :)

How do I review this one without spoiling it?

Addison Cain can write one mind-fuck of a story when she sets herself to the task. She loves to go to dark and disturbing places—it's her M.O.—but this short about a quiet invasion of Earth is a trip. Written in a way that makes your skin crawl and keeps you off-balance, I kept questioning what was real and what wasn't in this narrative, right up until the ending. There are so many questions that never get satisfactory answers. Due to the nature of the invaders, they won't be, and any answer could not be trusted anyway.

If you like the dark and twisted—and you like aliens with unusual anatomy—this short is worth the read. It will give you a lot to question about how you perceive the world and its workings.

I'm a bit freaked out by the possibilities this tale presented
Phi's race arrives on planet earth and is embraced without question
Seems the humans were easily swayed with their herd mentality to accept that they had come in peace.
The path of less resistance, less thinking -
Scary how true that is

Except for a few who questioned the events - well when they were able to temporarily lift the fog that is - Our sweet Emily was one of those few who stood out amongst the flock. Also what landed her in her "predicament" I dare say.

Phi seemed to have a lot more control over events than was known.
Emily, it seemed had a painful past.
We are given little snippets of the life she may have led but again how much of that was real? (I am standing outside the flock)
Phi claims to want to give her the world, to only want her happy.
I am not sure I believe him and I truly do not think his actions reflect ensuring her happiness
I am sort of with Emily on the whole pet thing

I'm a bit upset this wasn't a full story in the sense that as a reader I didn't get all the answers I wanted - stingy I know.
But what stayed inside?
Why were they staring?
How were only the males affected?
(I did catch a bit of the how but I wanted the little details)
And so many more that it would take me pages to list them.

And time passed without reference
Just the haze of pain then pleasure followed again by pain
A slight fade of the scenery followed by the realization things had changed, moved forward.
But what?
It still felt unfocused -
Just out of reach.
Honestly, I am not sure if the events recalled were real or imaginary.

This is not a romance not in the true sense. I am not really sure how I would classify this.
This felt more like a glimpse at events than a complete tale
I do hope the author expands on this the possibilities are endless

I love everything I read by Addison Cain. This is a SCI-FI romance and the setting is in a congested city post alien invasion. These aliens are compatible to breed human females and this works out well for the aliens since the male humans are mysteriously dying in their early 30s.

Emily is a waitress in an upscale restaurant. She serves Phi and there is instant attraction. Phi decides to persuade Emily that she is his. The two fall into bed together and Emily realizes just how convincing Phi can be.

There’s a lot to these aliens and I don’t want to spoil the novel, but these aliens are very unique and alluring. Phi proves that he is a very good provider and the couple’s chemistry is off-the-charts. Five stars for heat, tentacles, and stripes!

Strangeways by Addison Cain is the story of Phi and Emily.
Emily is a waitress who is works hard and feels burnt out. Phi is a Alien who along with his co-aliens have come to earth to mate with women. Phi has chosen her which she is confused why he would want her. This was just a quick hot read that didn't touch deep into the characters relationship. I overall enjoyed it.

This was certainly a different sci-fi romance. Emily is a waitress barely surviving on an Earth that's controlled by aliens. Men have become rare and seldom live past 40. Work is hard to get. After a particularly bad day Emily catches the eye of alien Phi. What I found appalling was the insidiousness of the aliens. They're able to keep people calm while they ingratiate themselves in all aspects of human life. Emily knows there's something 'off' about Phi, she isn't particularly interested in a relationship with him. He uses his alien mojo on her and she stops questioning Phi's intentions and just goes along with his assimilation. I can't say Emily gave full consent when Phi was messing with her emotions. It did make my skin crawl a bit to know that Emily's changing views of the aliens weren't really her own. The sex was more like torture for Emily. It's a very short read and I think it would have been much better if it were longer and allowed Emily to put up more of a fight. This was my first Addison Cain book. A friend loaned it to me. I wouldn't have bought it myself. I think $3.99 for a book less than 100 pages is way too much. The writing wasn't bad but I'm not a 'dark' romance fan.

This book is 86 pages. Amazon tells me typical time to read is 2 hours. Who takes 2 hours to read 20 minutes worth of story?

It was okay. Neither really romantic nor really smutty. Characterization wasn’t really there. The ending was a let down since you didn’t get a pay off by learning what was truly going on with the

I went into Srangeways expecting a bit of naughty alien fun, but wound up getting so much more! This may be my favorite alien invasion/romance story to-date. I could feel the oppressive atmosphere of Emily's existence and her struggle not to succumb to her daily grind. Addison Cain can truly tap into the human psyche and convey her characters' emotional experience to her readers in such a way that we wind up living it right along with them. Phi is such a mysterious (and hot!!!) presence in Emily's life. What's his true agenda (and that of his species), what is he doing with and to Emily? All these questions are answered and wrapped up in a satisfying HEA. My only complaint is that I wasn't ready for this story to end!

So you say you want an alien MMC that is the *perfect* mate? Protective, attentive, adaptable? Financially secure, anatomically strange, and just a little gaslightly? Have I got a story for you!

This was uncanny, uncomfortable, and fucking great!

This was such a fun read. Not your typical alien invasion romance. Our MMC is charming, methodical, and suggestive but also protective, possessive, and desires to give her the world while slowly assimilating. The author packs a lot into this novella with an extremely creative premise, interesting world building, and great relationship development.

Rep:
Black heroine

TW/CW:
Cisnormative, sexism, non-con scene, poverty.

This was really good for what it was, an alien erotica. I had issues with it though, it was published recently and the author is very ignorant on gender and sexuality. By this I mean that they equate gender to genitals, which I would’ve been annoyed by more but this is unfortunately pretty common in any book genre. But I got really upset and absolutely annoyed at that fact that the author has the MC wondering if the aliens are just male, or maybe there are females, or asexual??? In what world is asexuality a gender? I’m not the most educated in gender stuff as some other fellow queers are, but even I know that it is solely sexuality. Come now.

The heroine was Black, and it actually wasn’t offensive overall, I thought it decent though I’m not Black myself. Besides the fact that the author wrote towards the end referencing “black skin” even though it’s supposed to be dark brown, and the hero seeming to fetishize her in one reference I’m surprised it wasn’t totally awful.

Besides those issues, I actually really enjoyed it. It was really short and it promised what it advertised, simple alien erotica. If you want to read about an alien who can change his penis to pleasure the heroine, then this is very good. It’s actually one the few actually raunchy novellas I’ve read recently.

Unfortunately for me, this is not a standalone. The last note promised more novellas in this series even though I had no idea this was going to be a series. I’m dealing with mental fixation issues which cause me to become very anxious if I read a series that’s not completed. I wish authors would be more honest with this and would just list it as a series in goodreads. I’m really upset at this specially considering that I’ve heard this author rarely finishes series. I really hope I like the next novellas but I think it’s sick that I can’t enjoy standalones comfortably and have to go through hoops to find the sequels.

Just did a reread of Strangeways! 4.5 Stars

Swear every time I reread an Addison Cain book, it just seems better and better. Like I may have missed something (because this author writes tightly and you can’t miss a beat with her works) and so when I pick up on it the second time I’m like, oh wow, I missed that little tidbit!

So what’s this novella about?

An alien invasion by which the objective is to assimilate the female population through pleasure. This will benefit both parties and help to heal a dying earth. Sounds like my kinda fantasy.

What a deliciously scrumptious read. A guilty pleasure I devoured.

I enjoyed this quick little bedtime read.

Now off to la la land to dream me up some Phi!

This has the potential to be so good. I know this is just a novella, but there seemed to be so much missing in the end. So many questions still unanswered that I felt unfulfilled by this story.

I think this is the beginning of a series, but I can’t help but wonder why she bothered publishing this instead of a whole story.

In this book earth has been invaded by aliens. They came and integrated themselves with much ease. Too much ease. The heroine in this book wonders why nobody questions anything regarding the aliens. Also shortly before they came all the men on their planet started dying young. They caught some sort of degenerative disease that takes them out in their 30’s I think.

Very suspicious that these aliens show up and are compatible and looking for mates.

The interesting thing about this alien story is that once the alien starts releasing their seed into their mate, they each change. Their bodies literally change to become more compatible and attractive to their chosen mate. In this Phi, the alien, has a silver strip that runs from the top of his head down to his groin. And as the story goes on, the heroine develops an identical stripe that mirrors his. I thought that was a cool aspect of the story.

"My position in your life, your placement in mine, is inevitable."

Emily is a waitress barely getting by in life when Phi enters her world.   He is an alien whose kind have taken up residence on earth as the male species is dying off.   Is his arrival a coincidence?  Phi has taken an interest in Emily, wanting a relationship were they both 'assimilate' but you wonder to whose benefit?

Throughout the story I am trying to guess what Phi's true intentions are.   His sole purpose seems to be to give Emily what she is missing in life.  It is disheartening that she does not believe she is deserving to have someone (even an alien) to love and cherish her.  Like the saying "too good to be true" you are left with a feeling of unease as Emily continues her relationship with the alien. Strangeways is a quick, steamy read that is too good to pass up!

Overall I'm a huge fan of Addison Cain and her books however, this one fell short. The topic is an interesting twist for Cain's books, extraterrestrials invading Earth looking for mates. This novella is less than 100 pages long which makes the steep price of $3.99 ridiculous. It isn't only the price or how long the book is that makes me dislike it, the writing style is odd. I know that sounds weird but the entire tone of the book can be described as a memory not the present. The main character is thinking back to what happened not what is currently happening. Overall between the tone/style (not sure how to describe this), price and length I wouldn't purchase this book. Disappointing for the price of a full length novel

this... was something

she’s an overworked waitress and he's one of the many aliens whom have invaded earth. she's been so overworked and verbally abused all her life that when this alien shows a minimum show of interest, she acts as if he just wants to kill her. and those where the vibes, for most of the book i thought i picked up a thriller disguised as alien prom, i was so confused and scared lol

anyway this was interesting and would have been even better if it was longer, cause that ending didn't seem linear with the fmc train of thoughts

Phi and Emily's story is a quick one and definitely does not follow the typical pattern for a romance. I found this story to be a quick read and full of heat and completely original. It was fun reading how the characters were learning and assimilating to one another and where their story takes them.

Original Sci-fi Alien Romance!!

Rumor has it this is a rewrite of her first published story. Love this take on the arrival of aliens. Human males are dying out around the age of 40. Alien males are finding females who are compatible and working to perpetuate both species.

Totally unique, completely captivating.
