Interlude: A Short Story of Andar

Rate this book
Who is really running the kingdom?

Revisit the royal family of Andar in this short story, as the impending birth of the heir to Andar’s throne leads to a tense standoff, an accusation of theft, and the discovery of just who is really in charge at Evenburg Castle.

Enjoy a brief glimpse into the lives of Trystan, Ramsey, Kyril, Ilani and their families three years after the events of Traitor’s Masque.

Interlude takes place after the events in Daughter of Lies, and contains spoilers for Books 1-5 of The Andari Chronicles, a series of interconnected but stand-alone fairy tale retellings that feature strong heroines, romance, mystery, and deeply satisfying happily ever afters.

Kenley Davidson is a romantic fantasy author and unrepentant caffeine addict who believes in the power of storytelling and loves nothing more than a good book hangover. Her books include romantasy, urban fantasy, fairy-tale retellings, and sci fi, but no matter the genre, she writes stories of hope and redemption with characters you can root for, heart-pounding romance without the spice, and happy endings that might just make you cry.

Her favorite things (besides books) are coffee, k-dramas, cats, and playing cozy video games. And also scones.

Kenley currently lives in Oklahoma, where she cares for a menagerie of misfit house plants while waiting for her adult children to occasionally pop in for laundry and a home-cooked meal.

A Sweet Look

This is a sweet look at the characters that are part of the core of the Andari chronicles. The characterizations are true to form of what we expect, and this is exactly what the title suggests, a happy interlude in their lives.

Sweet novella

The title sums it up - this really is an interlude. Still, it's well written and pretty funny too. As a recently pregnant woman, I love the accurate and humorous portrayal of pregnancy - it's great!

This was such a fun little glimpse at the lives of the original Andari Chronicles characters! The only thing better than a happily-ever-after, is getting to see a little of it unfold. No angst here, just warm and fuzzy fluff for fans of the characters/series. :)

Perhaps if I had read this soon after reading the Andari Chronicles, I would have enjoyed it more. It's a story about parenting and not what I was expecting. I kind of felt like I was at a baby shower: silliness, bad advice, and you're wishing it's over long before it is.

A delightful short story that gives some fun updates on not only the royal family of Andar, but also Kyril and Ilani, the Norelles, and our favorite fierce grandmother/cook.

Did I sob-laugh my way through the second half of this? Possibly. Absolutely charming story about new parenthood and love.

This is a short and sweet book that gives you a little glimpse into the lives of Prince Ramsey and Princess Trystan roughly 3 years after the Traitor's Masque. It is best to read it after book #5 just so it doesn't spoil any previous plot lines, but it isn't necessary to move the story line along.

“Tomorrow it’s your job to liberate the pastries. Today I was forced to run the gauntlet of at least a score of scandalized kitchen maids, who are now no doubt gossiping about my eating habits and wondering whether I’m feeding an entire orphanage or a harem of illicit admirers.”

It was nice to see pregnancy portrayed much more realistically, even if it is a fantasy novel. It's satisfying to know that even princesses have swollen body parts and ravenous hunger. Of course Trystan and Ramsey are as snarky and adorable as ever.

“I suppose we could name him after Kyril,” Ramsey interrupted, straight faced. “Better to name him after your horse,” Trystan muttered, grimacing in mock horror. “At least your horse wouldn’t be inclined to brag about it.” Ramsey chuckled. “But would you really condemn your own child to be known as Prince Parsifal?”

It is very short and it's definitely worth the read if you need a good chuckle.

Like all of Kenley Davidson's Andari series, this was a delightful read and great addition to a well written and entertaining series. It was fun to once again step into Trystan & Ramsey's story and see some of my favorite characters.
