There’s only one reason a woman says that three months after a one-night stand. She’s pregnant, and she plans on keeping the baby. Porter can handle that — he’s always planned on being a father, and doing better at the job than his own dad ever did. Sure, he's always envisioned the wife then kids, but he's used to fixing things that are broken.
Unfortunately, this isn’t just any woman. She’s his sister’s best friend: Iris. And three months ago, she wasn’t looking for anything from him but his body, and it’s all she wants now.
Porter has always wanted the real deal, and he’s starting to think he could have it with Iris, if she’d just bend enough to let him in.
But Iris has learned one thing in her life: you can’t bend for anyone, because once you start, you won’t stop til you break.
Melissa Blue's writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. Eventually she upgraded to a computer. She's still typing away on the same computer, making imaginary people fall in love.
A one-night stand leads to an unexpected surprise and an odd sort of relationship.
Porter is the latest of the male friendship group that this series is based around to get a book. He wasn't shown in a great light in one of the earlier books because of his poor reaction to the relationship between his sister Ashley and his friend Grady, and as a result Iris, Ashley's best friend has a very low opinion of him. Despite this, there's a physical attraction between Porter and Iris and they agree to a one-night stand after a wedding reception. Only Iris turns up pregnant because of it, to a man who reminds her of her emotionally abusive father in all the worst ways.
This is a much better book than the previous one. There are still some of the issues with editing, but just about everything has been improved, from characterization to the general plot. The drama is very real, with both the main characters concerns about their ongoing relationship being valid and enough to wreck them even before they start. It's a real pleasure to read their navigation of them.
Okay, so this book. This story. This couple. These friends. This family. All of it ... fucking brilliant
I'm a little upset with myself right now that I have not taken the time to read the last two books in this series. Actually, I'm a little upset with myself that I haven't read all the Melissa Blue words. I've read quite a few, but not all and that's gonna me rectified when ... okay, I don't know but it's on the list!
The moment I started reading this story I felt the pull and push that is Porter and Iris. They were brilliant with each other. Melissa created two characters that could not be better suited. They way they bantered with each holds your interest to the point where you just want them to be talking ALL THE TIME! Porter with his mostly stoic demeanor and dry wit and Iris with her take no prisoners sarcasm and steel armor around her heart made for some RIDICULOUS sparks between the sheets ... or the wall .... or the table ... or the counter .... these two had some serious sexy times! :) I am also ridiculously happy at how Melissa unfolded this story. Both Iris and Porter have their own personal baggage/demons to slay while dealing with the bomb that is now their life. All of it was dealt with and dealt with correctly, imo. She put the main focus on their present/future but did not neglect their personal baggage. #win That's all I can really tell you about the story unless you want a play by play and you'll never get that from me :)
Those of you that have kept up with the series will enjoy the heck out of the gang all being a part of this journey. I know this because I enjoyed the heck out of it and I haven't kept up! I can't wait to go back and read, especially Victor and Ashley .. for obvious reasons!
Cute story with a lot of indecision and unnecessary back and forth…Iris unfairly compared Porter to her father and his negative behavior…and we basically had to wait until the very end of the book for her to get her head on straight….and accept her HEA…I love the few laughs I was able to get from this story….nice narration from Chance Smothers.
Porter and Iris' story was so much fun - even with the surprise pregnancy, and the way they were both fighting their feelings with everything inside of them. This whole series is filled with sexyness, hotness, and some pretty heavy themes. Friendships, family relationships and romance are strong parts as well.
I must start by saying this series is definitely one of my favorite contemporary romance series! The this group of family and friends lovingly called Goon Squad has permanently taken root in my heart!
I waited a long time for Porter and his book was absolutely worth the wait! This book! #Dirty? ✔️ #Sexy? ✔️ #Geeks? ✔️(hello! ...Rubik's Cubes!!)
Porter and Iris and their story are my fave in this series to-date. Their verbal sparring was on point! I enjoyed it immensely! The banter was on fire, the chemistry sparked and the sexy times were hella sexy! And then the baby was there and I turned to a mushy pile of tears. There was nothing, NOTHING, I didn't love about this book! Melissa Blue simply did it again! 5 stars and a spot on my 2017 faves-list!
I think this might’ve been my least favorite of the series. Interestingly, it was less angsty than the previous 3 books but Porter and Iris both have major daddy issues and I feel like having them go to therapy for their respective issues would have been helpful.
Secondly, I don’t normally love romances that happen due to an unexpected pregnancy and I love them even less in a post Dobbs era. I could understand why Iris was so furious with Porter especially in light of how her relationship with her father colored her judgment but some of the things she said to him were unnecessarily harsh (calling him a living vibrator) especially in light of how Porter treats her. But also, I wish there had been some kind of resolution about Iris and her father that wasn’t just him cutting her out bc she was unmarried and pregnant bc since the book ends with Iris and Porter together, it feels like the kind of situation in which her dad would be all magnanimously forgiving of his daughter and I wished for a scene where she tells him to go yeet himself into the sun.
It's a given I will love anything Melissa Blue writes. Her stories are fun and sexy and I was engrossed in her #dirtysexygeeks series from the first book. Not only for the couples with the great trope stories ( teacher/student, best friends sister ) but the geek squad friendships themselves really add a sparkle of love to the overall series of books. It takes a great author to be able to convey a close knit group of people throughout a series and this is one of those books. These are a group of people who genuinely love and care about each other, I love their banter throughout and there's never a doubt that if one of the friends are in need someone will be there for them. <3
I loved Porter and Iris. They didn't have an insta-relationship where everything is magically fixed with unicorns and babies just because they have an accidental pregnancy, they work out it in such a subtle unforced way that by the end of the book I felt as though they'd always been a couple. I enjoyed their friendship, Porter is a natural fixer in his life so watching him in cook/nurturer mode was sooooo nice, Unf, every book hero should cook their lady food.
And you have me, a man, willing to touch more than your boob. All you have to do is say the word. Shit, just say three.” “What words?” “Touch me, Porter.”
Great banter, delicious sexual tension, gorgeous sexy times. This was a great addition to the goon squad, and I even saw my fave Wade!!
Author lady did a cute with the chapters. Instead of numbers she used ideal couple shipping. ( Buffy/Angel. Dean/Castiel etc )
I already want Oliver's book. Can I have Oliver's book now??
This is another great installment in the #dirtysexygeeks series. It’s definitely less angsty than the previous one (Bluest of Blue), but it still managed to engage all of my feels. The hero and heroine are both complicated individuals who feel so REAL. They each have a lot of baggage to unpack, most of it related to their parent(s) and upbringings. I was rooting for them to do so the whole book because I wanted them to succeed for themselves, for each other, and for the baby.
The #dirtysexygeeks series has always maintained that love is the basis for family, while shared DNA sequence is optional. This is continued in the latest installment and the members of the Goon Squad are just as wonderfully supportive of each other as they’ve been in previous books.
While this story can probably work as a standalone, I HIGHLY recommend (at least) reading Down To Ash (book 2 in the series) before starting here. There are many references to Porter’s awful behavior toward Ashley upon discovering her relationship with Victor. The descriptions in Three Little Words TELL you what occurred, but Down To Ash will SHOW you what happened. (And showing is better than telling, right?)
I loved that the chapters of the book aren’t numbered, but instead are denoted by ships that reflect the tone/progression of each chapter. (At least they did for the ships from fandoms with which I am familiar.) If you aren’t familiar with the ships don’t worry about it, I enjoyed chapters with shipping references I didn’t know just as much as those with ones I did know. If not knowing the ships will distract you, Google is your friend.
I had no doubt I'd love this. i love the entire Goon Squad. These men and their women are so complex! and feel so real and yeh Porter and Iris had me going, wanting to shake them both and hug them both. sometimes at the same damn time!
I loved how both Iris' and Porter's friendships are such an integral part of who they are. a big recurring cast of characters is my jam, forever and always. And yes Iris and Porter are front and centre, it's their story after all, but through these friendship we really get to see who they both are.
And now, as with each of the guys, I'm gonna be waiting on Oliver because of couuurse Melissa dropped some stuff in there about some mystery woman and i need to know mooore!!
I just need everydamnbody to read this series. READ IT DAMMIT!
My LEAST favorite type of cliche is pregnancy. Especially when it's a black guy, that's like stereotypical to the max (which is fine. Im just not a fan of it). The only reason I kept reading was for anything concerning the goon squad. Porter was never one of my favorite characters. I'd liked Iris in Ashley's story but this story I didn't like her knowing her personality this time around. I'm not a huge fan of overly stubborn people or even people in HARD denial... I get it, but also, get over yourselves. There were some sweet moments for sure, but the only non-sterotypical part was Porter being a really good guy who's got his life together.
Iris was just way too stubborn for my liking. She was really pissing me off comparing Porter to her father over and over and over, when all he did was take care of her and go along with everything she said. He never once tried to control her. There wasn't even an epilogue it was like they were taking forever to get together then all the sudden the baby is born and everything just was rushed to a happy ending.
I cannot believe my review of this awesome book is lost because of my weird habit of deleting my online presence whenever I'm sad... Anyway:
This book has two people, who aren't the biggest fan of each other, hook up at the MMC's sister's wedding, and well, the FMC gets pregnant and keeps the baby. Thus begins their journey to...try and co-exist. This book is fun, kind of supremely soft (the hero had some seriously charming domestic points in his side) and well paced. I enjoyed it A LOT.
Loved this romance between Porter and Inez and loving this series. Oh and I enjoyed all the chapter headings in this book....made me laugh out loud.
On some level we can relate to this romance between this unlikely couple. Inez is brides maid at Porters sister wedding. During the reception they flirt and hook-up, the condom breaks, her birth control malfunctions and they get pregnant. Porter is a complete asshole when he finds out and it's this attitude that sets the tone for their relationship.
As Inez's pregnancy progresses so does their feelings for each other. The problem is that she is too independent, proud and stubborn to see through her feelings for him and instead of moving towards him with love and affection she drives him away with insults. Porter is almost as bad. He is falling in love with her but instead of being honest with himself and telling her about his feelings, he just goes along with whatever she wants which keeps them apart. We all know couples like Inez and Porter who are attractive, smart and sexy but too stubborn to see past their pride. This is just a good romance with a great ending.
Melissa Blue is such a genuine writer and I am loving this series so very much. Looking forward to Oliver's story if Melissa ever gets around to writing it.
Melissa Blue has done it again: given us a Dirty Sexy Geeks story with a whole lotta heart that captures a real-life situation and doesn't let go.
One of the things that I've always liked about the Dirty Sexy Geeks series is that with her characters, no matter how flawed and difficult they are, there is always some facet of their personality that speaks to you and makes you root for them. This is definitely the case with Porter and Iris in Three Little Words.
I really liked how Melissa broke it down for us--we know that Porter wants to be a better man than his father ever was, and we know that he sees his chance to prove this with Iris's pregnancy. We also know that Iris isn't always easy to love and that she has her own reasons for this. It makes for a great read that pulls you in and makes you care so much about them.
So do I think you should read Three Little Words? You I do! Highly recommended. :)
**Note: The author provided me with an ARC, which I have read and reviewed. **
This was my first time reading a book from this author and I liked it. The characters were so real. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I was frustrated by Iris’ stubbornness and denial as well as Porter’s temper. I also wish we got some closure with Iris and her father. That being said, I liked that the characters admitted their flaws although it took Iris until the end of the book. I also liked the side characters and the family unit. The dialogue was well-written too.
Almost halfway through the book I realised that the chapters were names of fictional couples and I saw that one chapter was named after Barry & Iris who are my favourite fictional ship ever! Good taste author.

I am in love with the Dirty Sexy Geeks!! You can't help falling for this group of friends who are a family to each other. Iris and Porter's one night stand leads to unintended consequences and now they're navigating impending parenthood AND their feelings for each other. I caught myself laughing out loud more than once and the two of them have such chemistry! Melissa Blue has a great writing style and denoting each chapter with a 'ship fits in so perfectly with the series - especially when the final 'ship is my favorite one of all :) Three Little Words can be read as a standalone, but to really do it justice, make sure you read the rest of the series to get to know the rest of the family.
Well wasn't this a nice gorgeous little gem of a novel!
Porter and Iris do the sexy time at the beginning, then the book turns into a slow burn romance as these two deal with the fall out of their night together and begin to get to know each other. I thought Melissa Blue did that really well. At times I didn't think Porter would ever redeem himself for the cool way he received the news Iris gave him, but boy, did he.
I just adore these Goon Squad buddies, we get a little something from all of them to see how their lives are moving on.
Porter is like the perfect man, but Iris is a total bitch on wheels! I didn't understand why she was so hung up on Porter's supposed anger issues and complained he was controlling; there were zero examples of his supposed "issues" in the book. Maybe this made more sense if you've read previous books in the series (I haven't) but to me she came across as an immature idiot who didn't deserve him, and I really didn't see what he saw in her. He could do so much better!!! Still giving it 3 stars for Porter, but with a better love interest it would have been a much better book!
Funny, sassy, crisp & fresh with a bit of nice smut and non-cringy romance lines. Very contemporary with timeless drops of erotica.
I also really enjoyed all the other characters but felt that the "dad" was a bit left behind by the author, even though that the "mom" had much less presence in the story and yet had a bigger impact...
The one thing that I did not fully appreciate was the "birthing" which did not seem to register with the birthing mother herself, and the "inability" to touch her newly born baby.
Probably will be reading more of this author *via SCRIBD audio*
What I've enjoyed about this series is the way MB let's the story build to its own pace. I had no clue how the H/h work through their dilemma but I loved finding out alongside them.
I'm a sucker for an attentive hero who cooks.
Love the Goon Squad. They're buddy goals. This book should definitely have more reviews than it does. Why isn't everyone falling in love with the sexy dirty geeks?
Not saying it was the best of the the four books bout is was the one I like the most. The chapter headings made me laugh and the back and forth between the characters has such a realistic tone. The love is so fragile especially when you are determined to be stubborn and hold on to what you know. We all fight this in life. It’s so satisfying when the heart wins. Lol
Will definitely check out some of the author's other books; did not really buy into the chapter titles (I could see what they were getting at but it took me out of the story rather than into it) but this was otherwise engaging enough that I won't hold it against the book. Really lovely, wonderful well-rounded characters.
These Goon Squad men just keep getting better and better. I adored this slow build romance. And I hope Melissa Blue doesn't ever stop writing these books.
I'll take part two of all the dirty sexy geeks, please.
I liked the 'ship names for chapter titles. The nerdiness is a little more in the background for this one. I still enjoy the found family, and the hero is somewhat redeemed for his past jerkish behavior. Do we ever find out what happens with Oliver? He seems to have faded to the background.
I chose this book because it was Scribd’s choice of the day. I was looking for a romance. I liked the story line but the writing was almost unbearably cheesy and extremely predictable. Also- this book was extremely raunchy and vulgar so would NOT read in public. Porn on paper.
