Dr Dan had me feeling conflicted and I struggled rating it. I initially disliked the first part of this book and then found myself emotionally invested in the second half. At that point this story redeemed itself.

With these K. Webster Taboo Treats you can always expect a hot smutty read that pushes the boundaries and increases the heart rate. And on that level it delivered.

Dr Dan Venable and Lauren meet when she finds herself at the ER. Afraid of being properly diagnosed and ignoring the warnings, her symptoms have her returning numerous times. This is how the come to know one another. Their attraction is mutual and instantaneous yet the early stages of their relationship made me feel uneasy.

My first impressions was that the age gap between Dr Dan and Lauren was significantly too large making for an implausible read. I just didn't get why this author couldn't make the age difference a little more realistic...
Dr Dan's colleague summed them up perfectly :

“She’s eight-fucking-teen,” he reminds me. “I get the whole mid-life crisis shit, hence my badass car, but seriously, man? What could you possibly have in common with a little girl?”

And then the second half of the book kicked in, and BOOM. Instantly the characters and the storyline developed serious depth and it was a game changer. It had me quickly rearranging my thoughts and feelings. In fact the smut became emotional and I could almost forget my misgivings over the first half.

This is the thirteenth story of K. Webster's Taboo Treats, all the stories are standalone and can be read in any order, or so they say, but I can't agree to that, or that they are standalone.
My reading order:
Bad Bad Bad
Coach Long
Ex-Rated Attraction
Malfeasance/Judge Rowe
Crybaby
Mr. Blakely
Renner's Rules
Dane
Preach/Easton
Lawn Boys
The Glue
Enzo
Red Hot Winter
Dr. Dan

Daniel Venable is Jenna's father, as we discovered in "Enzo".
In Red Hot Winter we're introduced to Lauren and her illness.
Another huge age gap story, though this one is deeper.
Lauren is 18 years old, Daniel 46...
Lauren is sick. Her mother died of renal insufficiency, and she's afraid of having the same condition, so she denies exams.
description
This one is a bit different, can't decide if it is a good or a bad different.
It was too smooth for my taste and a bit unrealistic.
Can't connect to Lauren and her stubbornness to not do the exams and find out why she's ill.
Daniel deserved a better story, I really liked him in Enzo.
The kid's adoption, in the end, were too forced. Taylor made sense, but the other too kids... Too much...

This is a nice change for The Taboo series; less dirty kink more emotional cuteness.

When Dr Dan makes his mind up about something, it’s all steam ahead. Perhaps too fast, surely to his detriment but Lauren doesn’t seem to mind. If it was me I’d at least be a little freaked out.

Otherwise this is so hot! I love doctors, especially ones in scrubs.

This one is so emotional and I couldn’t be happier about that fact.

The nuances of Daniel’s character is pretty good. I’ve read so many of these lately where the H has been very dominating, definitely on the sadistic side of that spectrum. And considering his character is a doctor he’s very nurturing, sweet natured and just all around lovely. He does lean towards the cheese factor and dad jokes but I consider it a part of his charm. I can definitely group him in with Easton and Enzo, even though Easton had a bit of a sadistic streak.

Lauren is great too, she’s the perfect mix of sass, sarcasm, a little broken but full of love to share. She really needed Dan in her life, not only to take care of her but for her to love. She’s been lonely far too long for one so young.

We definitely ran the gamut of sadness in the second half, and I appreciate that it came to a full circle all the way back when we met Dan in Enzo.

Dr. Dan may fall under K. Webster's Taboo Treats but outside age difference it was less taboo to me than it was sweet and beautiful in a way that I really, truly loved.

Dr. Daniel Venerable is, and has always been, married to his career. He's 45, never married and never experienced the gift of family even though he featured in a previous K. Webster book where he found a long, lost daughter at age 18. But he missed all the good times, the unforgettable moments.

When Lauren, an 18 year old also comes into his ER, he notices her beauty but immediately goes into complete Doctor Mode. There is obviously something really wrong with Lauren but she is stoic and defiant and will not allow him to run the tests he needs. But he has no doubt that she'll be back again. And of course, she does end up back. For Lauren is one very sick girl.

This is one of K. Webster's short reads so it cuts to the instalust/instalove pretty fast but you know what? I didn't mind it. Daniel wasn't some perv that went to score the teenage bait. He was first relentless as trying to wear her down as a doctor, he took a liking to this girl and everything in him that was a healer called to fix her. When their attraction took over and the good doctor and Lauren fell into each other, I had NO problem with the age gap. Some may find it a crazy one but I think that's just preference. We love who we love. And Daniel could not have been a better protector, cheerleader and lover to Lauren than anyone else that came along.

I loved the other aspects of this story too. I loved the children. I loved that Dan would put sex on the back burner all in the name of Lauren's health. I loved that the author shined a light on what living with an illness is really about and what loving someone with one takes. And I adored the kids. That was a whole other area that she addressed which doesn't come up often in books. Was theirs an unconventional set-up? Absolutely? Was the family and circle they created also non-traditional? Hell yeah. And I was really proud and absolutely inspired by it.

Dr. Dan had 'a heart of gold and a spine of steel' and as he said after finally breaking away to live life instead of only live in an ER:

"My heart cracked open then, and I started to not just live, but love. And now that my heart is open and ready, that love isn’t isolated to a daughter or a wife. It’s spreading like a fire, flaming wider and reaching for those who need the warmth."

A really refreshing read for me. Not as taboo in it's set up as some of her other stories but sometimes it's nice to have a little light shine down and see the underdogs of the world come out on top and valued for their worth.

****4 stars. I would've given it 5 but it was just a little too short and could've been expanded on especially given the richness of the material. Still though, made my day!

Dr. Daniel Venable is a physician dedicated to helping others. When Lauren Englewood enters his ER room, he is immediately taken by her strong will and beauty. Knowing there is an age gap between, it doesn’t stop Dan and Lauren from connecting. For Lauren, she desperately needs someone to lean on and Dan is just what the doctor ordered.

“I’m horny as hell, baby. I want to flip you over on this bed and fuck away your virginity.”

Narrated in dual POV, what begins as hot and flirtatious transitions into an endearing story centered on Lauren’s health and how she and Dan cope with her condition. With loving support from her family, Lauren realizes she doesn’t have to handle it all on her own.

“With Daniel, I feel alive, on fire, and tethered to the moment.”

With this book being included in the Taboo Treats collection, I was certainly expecting more relating to the taboo nature of their relationship and also more sexy times. Given the direction of the plot, the theme of love and support became center stage than the taboo factor. Lauren’s plight was admirable and I liked the realistic element regarding her disease and how she and Dan ultimately created their own happiness. However, for the emotional impact needed for the theme, the story seemed rushed and it detracted from my overall connection to these characters.

Dr. Dan is an instalove romance based on coming together during difficult times. This book will appeal to those who want a quick paced story about love and hope.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone from Taboo Treat collection
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Lauren Englewood seemed young and full of life to anyone who saw her. But inside, she carried a pain all on her own. Dr. Daniel Venable knew something wasn’t right, and he was determined to fix her, even if it was beyond his professional responsibility.

This book was not at all what I expected. It was more sweet and somber than hot and sexy.

I don’t want to be dealt with as though I’m a wilting flower. I want to be ripped apart, throttled, used, and abused.

Both Dan and Lauren had big hearts. They not only gave it to each other but others who needed it too. The story was more about family than sex. There was very little taboo element or sexiness in it. I liked that it had heart and more serious tone, but considering this book is under Taboo Treats collection, for me, it didn’t quite fit the “requirements”.

Lauren may love sunsets, but she’s the sunrise, lifting high above everyone and giving them something to look up to.

Dr. Dan is a story of finding happiness where it matters. It would appeal to readers looking for a quick read of a sweet, heartfelt story.

Doctor/patient taboo is OK for me - no problem but he is 45 and she is 18 for f*ck's sake - this is too much for me!!!! Ergo, pass...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫4.5 stars

This book is so sweet, it will give you a toothache! I just adore how all the characters are connected from the other books, which is hard to do. The only authors I have seen really do it right have been K. Webster and Cora Reilly .

Lauren is Dr. Venable’s patient in the ER. She refuses treatment, but Dr. Dan doesn’t give up on helping her. Their relationship quickly turns romantic as Dr. Dan tries to treat her.

Daniel is an ER doctor and the father of the heroine of Enzo. He is a very kind and loving person and he adores and dotes on Lauren. Dan is initially hesitant about starting a relationship with her as he is forty-five and she is eighteen, but love can not be controlled.

In conclusion, this is an extremely sweet and adorable book that isn’t too long or too short. Perfect for a beach or pool day! I hope more books come out from the Taboo Treat series!

Sometimes the best medicine isn’t anything that can be prescribed.

K Webster did a great job with Dr. Dan. It goes a little beyond just a simple taboo treat. It’s emotional and covers some of the very real and difficult parts of a disease that’s not as often talked about especially in romance. I love that Daniel and Lauren’s story was still hot and taboo while having the serious and heartbreaking moments. Also the both of them have the biggest hearts on the fictional planet. So many amazing topics covered in this story and I loved it. I’d say more, but I don’t want to ruin everything. This one is good. If you want a taboo treat with a lot of heart, then this is it!

FUCKING HELL!! .... I have feeeelings people. All the fucking feelings!!!

Okay, so I’m going to tell you something about this book and I hope it doesn’t put anyone off from reading it. Here goes … The book needs a better label than taboo treat. Actually, it probably shouldn’t even say that. This is an age-gap story with the usual delicious chemistry K Webster brings to her stories. But it’s not even remotely close to the deliciously filthy taboo treats we’ve all come to associate with a taboo treat from K Webster. Anywho, I don’t want to confuse anyone any more than I probably have so I’m moving on ….

THIS.FUCKING.STORY … holy hell you guys, my heart hurt. It’s not exactly unpredictable but she threw in some curve-balls here and there that will have you ugly crying for a while. Okay, maybe just me, but you’re gonna feel and if you don’t then … I don’t know.

There’s quite a few things that could have been developed deeper than they were in the story, but just the way they are is actually perfect for a treat. I can honestly say this journey works perfectly exactly as written and at the same time would work perfectly with a little more depth. It baffled me, if I’m being honest. I’m actually hoping if more people get what I got from this story that maybe we might get an even fuller story in the future about Dr. Dan and Lauren!

This is a story I didn’t see coming and I love it even more for that. It’s pact with emotion and hope with a sprinkle of sexy all wrapped up in a full package of heart.

This chapter in the taboo treats chain wasn’t as good as others. The story felt too rushed and at times it felt as if the author just wanted to feel the pages but wasn’t exactly sure how to do it, so the words were just thrown there.

I have four stars because of the positive vibe and good natured feelings especially of the two characters toward less fortunate children.

This is full romance so insta love and far fetched from realty you get whiplashed. If you need a quick OTT escape this could be it.

I have to admit that I haven't the slightest idea why this book was characterised as taboo...

Is it possible I'm too liberated(or however this is called) in my views and beliefs???
Nah! I don't think so...
The main 'issue' if I may call it that, was the age difference, which I don't find odd.
Speaking for myself I prefer older men, some of my friends share my viewpoints, and the Mafia Series I'm currently working on all have some kind of age difference.
I'm not judging or anything since it all boils down to preferences, but I'm quite perplexed.

Lauren and Dan's story may not have started on the right foot, but started it did.
I really enjoyed their interactions throughout the book and Lauren's repartie all over. But most of all, I liked that the Good Doctor stayed with her in the time of her need, having to sometimes fight even Lauren herself.

What surprised me is how different a book this is from others from K. Webster, but I don't think it's necessary a bad thing.
It may not be my favourite by K, but I'd gladly read it again.

5 Big Dr. Dan Stars!

This book totally took me by surprise, and I might’ve even shed a tear or two. K Webster is queen of taboo, but this was so much more! Daniel and Lauren are a match if I’ve ever read one.

I love, love age gaps. When I found out Daniel was 45 I clapped my hands together because I knew this would be good. What I didn’t expect was all my heart strings to be pulled because this wasn’t a sunshine and roses love story. This is about sickness, long suffering and what real love is. This is about opening your heart to take in those that are hurting and suffering around you and loving them fully with your whole heart. Lauren May have been 18, but man was she wiser beyond her years and very mature where it counted.

This story twisted me up in knots and squeezed my heart in places that needed it.

I love how Lauren summed up things.

“That’s all life is anyway. A series of moments all smashed together to make one incredible journey. Sometimes the journey is short, and other times it’s long. It doesn’t matter the duration, but how much fun you have along the way. It should be filled with love, laughter, and end with root beer floats.”

Dr. Dan is a one of a kind man and I loved him so much!

“Sometimes the best medicine isn’t anything that can be prescribed. But love can be a healer. I should know. I’m a doctor.”

Mmmm, the doctor is in.

Dr. Dan is another of K. Webster's kinky reads and while I have only read a couple of them, I am seriously hooked. They are short, dirty, and surprisingly sweet.

Lauren has something wrong with her but she is a bit too stubborn and a bit too scared to let anyone figure it out. That is until the super hot ER doctor takes a notice. Dr. Dan is that super hot doctor who becomes pretty smitten with the hospital escape-artist and super brat, Lauren.

Because this is short the attraction/lust is fast, the kind that makes your head spin and heart beat faster. Because Ms. Webster is known for her "do not read in public" books. What I enjoyed about this was the drama was unique to them. It was not the typical age-gap drama, it was more of the medical mystery type of drama. Then through in tons of chemistry and sweet story for added measure.

I read this in one sitting, at home, and before bed. The story flows, even if it's fast and I liked the additional characters to make me realize I need to go back and read a book or two. Because while these books are completely stand-alone the characters to interconnect. If you're in the mood for a hot, yet sweet little gem then this might be right up your ally.

It’s really hard to not devour these little treats.

Now matter what taboo they tackle.

And Dr. Dan was no different. From the first page I was all in. Okay, even before that because I’ve already met the good doctor, and though there were quite a few growls of frustration that occured, I ended up loving how everything turned out for Dan and Lauren.

I adored Dr. Dan. He is a good man, who genuinely wants to help others. He also turns into quite a smexy beast, which was a huge bonus. Lauren. This girl. She’s snarky, sassy and has a pretty good head on her shoulder and my heart hurt for her, it did, but the frustration in regards to some of the choices she made had me growling. Thankfully, she collides with Dr. Dan and things start to change, for both of them. She gets him to think of living a life outside of his job and he gets her to see that hiding isn’t the way to go. Even though there is an age gap, they had a great flow and their bantering was a lot of fun and the smexy was hot. They go through the emotional ringer on this one, but I loved how things worked out for them in the end.

Did not like this at all and skipped a lot. Everything happened too fast and every potential issue was resolved quickly with a magic wand... I just could not get myself to care for the characters, could not feel any chemistry at all between them, so even the sex scenes felt bland. Would not recommend.

What I love about K. Webster is her versatility as a writer. Some of her books carefully toe the line on taboo, but are, in actuality, sweet love stories which have a forbidden element. Others run screaming at the top of their lungs like they’re on fire, waving their arms above their head as they unashamedly bolt past that barrier of what is even remotely acceptable.

Her ability to tell both types of stories is amazing, as is her ability to make me crave her books regardless of the taboo. There have been some doozies and they always make me question myself that she made me enjoy them as much as I did. But I digress.

Dr. Dan, surprisingly, fell into the sweet category and was a real shocker for me! Lauren was only 18 and Dr. Dan was in his mid-40s, older than her father. But that was the extent of the taboo. Other than the difference in ages, this couple was well matched and loving and I really enjoyed their story. I picked the book up thinking “let me just read a few chapters before I go to sleep” and we all know how that story goes. Next thing I know, I’ve read the entire thing and regret nothing.

Dr. Dan was a much different tale than I expected. It showed a relationship built on caring and sacrifice and concern. It showed heart and emotion, and I really loved the family that these two unlikely people created for themselves. It was not traditional, but it was sweet and accepting, and for dealing with the depressing topic of a person facing serious medical issues, it was a pretty uplifting book.

I have read several of K. Webster’s Taboo Treats books and am only now realizing that they all take place in the same world. They are all stand alones, however, even if it is nice to see some familiar faces. Dr. Dan was a wonderful addition, and really fell on the sweet side of the taboo spectrum.

Wow this book was a tear-jerker! The only taboo was their age gap and that the h was the same age as the H’s daughter. It was all legal and genuine love though. The h really needed someone to take care of her. It was a sweet story. The MC’s were super sweet and I loved the adopted family part. K. Webster never disappoints.

I can't tell why this didn't impress me like Crybaby did. Maybe because I couldn't figure out the heroine's character. I found her too perfect of an 18 year old girl. Which is super weird for me to say. I kinda wish to see her throwing tantrums a little (what am I even saying? I hate tantrum-ic heroine!).

As per Dr Daniel Venable? Perfection.

Which is weird now because I cannot tolerate a too perfect heroine all of sudden. I just feel like there's something missing there for me, in respect to the heroine's character. I don't know guys, my brain is fried right now.

Here is an inch to scratch if you're in need mood for taboo. I enjoyed this elavated read.

Dr. Daniel Venable is taken by a strong willed frequent visitor, Lauren Englewood to his ER room. He is hellbent on finding answers and to heal Lauren. Told on dual POVs, this story has determination to create ultimate happiness. The heroine is admirable and the hero is dedicated. There is a big age gap. The story is fast-paced, has an element of verity and is ethical. I would call this a self-satisfying read.

I absolutely loved it. I LOVED IT!! I wasn't expecting this. Holy shit. This book was such a nice and wonderful surprise. I didn't want to put it down and I'm sad that I finished it so quick. :(

I had this big "rant" written down here in the review but I accidentally deleted it because I'm an idiot. The rant was about how I don't understand why this is labeled under Webster's "taboo treat" world. Like, sure, character wise, town wise and story wise, I kind of get it but this felt like something.. more.. ? Not that her other taboo treats aren't "more" or enough, because holy shit THEY ARE. I fucking love those books, the taboo world and Webster's books in general. Ugh. It's so hard to explain what I'm thinking. It sounded really great in my head but now that I've written it down I just sound stupid and I suck at explaining stuff so I'm just gonna stop here.

Age difference: 27 years. He's 48 and she's 18.

5 heart melting stars! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Definitely this one IS one of my favorite reads EVER!
Part of the Taboo Treats, blew my mind, shattered my emotions, and then glued it back together, with the perfect ending. I love K.Websters Taboo Treats. I will be forever grateful for my book buddies, who recommended me this series. It was the perfect cure to my book funk, and it was the beginning of my love affair with K. Webster stories. I read all the previous books in this series in August in a binge, and I was very excited when I found out Dr. Dan was in line to find happiness. Until now, Enzo was my absolute favorite, but then enter dark haired, bright green eyed, handsome, sexy, dirty talking Dr. Daniel Venable, and buh-bye Enzo, hello Dr. Dan.

I had a feeling I was going to love this book, and I was right. I was smitten from the first moment. just like it happened with every one of K. Websters's books I read so far. The characters in this story own my heart. He is a dedicated ER doctor, who loves his daughter and who would do everything for his loved ones to be happy. But he still hasn't found THE ONE.... until he met Lauren. She was brought in to ER, and stole Dr. Daniels heart, with her beauty, and that sassy, smart ass mouth of hers. #LaurenIsAFighter, she is like super woman in my eyes, who manages to shine, regardless of her condition. She is strong and refuses to back down. I love that about her.

"Fire burns in my stomach as newfound determination thrums through my veins. ... it's not the end of the world. Not yet. I won't let it be. I'm going to learn what I can, get the help I need, and fight for the life I deserve.
Happiness.
It's mine. I just have to fight for it."

Lauren and Daniel have an instant, and a very intense chemistry, which evolves into a beautiful, heart melting love story. There is not only love, but also admiration and support.
"His dedication to his job is admirable. It's doctors like him who help people like me. They care and want solutions. They want to heal and cure. they give hope. "

The way Daniel cares for Lauren his love for her, the way he sees the beauty in her even though her body is breaking, is one of the most beautiful thing in this book. Seeing her through Daniel's eyes, I have fallen in love with her too.
"Lauren may love sunsets, but she is the sunrise, lifting high above everyone and giving them something to look up to. She warms them with her smiles and reflects back hope. "

Another aspect I loved, was the family bond, It was essential, and K. did a great job in showing it's importance. Of course I don't even have to say how the Epilogue was EVERYTHING! #AllTheFeels kind of EVERYTHING ❤️

He spreads his thighs a little, so I take his unspoken command to come stand between them.

Webster's pen getting like,,, like I'm reading Alexa Riley. LOL.

OK so another taboo not different any other. Age gap, in this one is much more, H is 45 and h is 18. Also her doctor (in emergency).

Should be shorter. Her sickness take long, but coming their first kiss and L words was abruptly said.

The main problem is, books are getting boring, Webster's pen getting un-romantic. What the fuck. Not saying not dirty or anything like this but even dirty parts felt banal.

And I sait before, all characters are linked and all of them are taboo, u know it's kinda weird. What kind of town they live in, all of them have age gap and they are all friends (for me being his doctor or teacher or coach or principle not a taboo for me).

that doesn't mean I'm not gonna read any other her taboo books lol

K Webster does it again! She knows exactly how to deliver the perfect taboo romance!

Once I got past some of the immature words that Lauren (mind you she’s 18) used I fell in love with this book.

Dr. Dan and Lauren form this unbreakable bond that gave me all the feels! I laughed, cried (think tears streaming down my face), and found myself holding my breath! It was a beautiful love story.

Love has no age or gender, love is love, and K Webster knows how to write it!
