Dire

Carrigan Adair is more than just an Emerald Isle MC princess. She’s also my most absolute best friend . . . and I’ve been in love with her for years.

Nothing has ever happened between us though, not even so much as a kiss and I doubt it ever will. The last thing I want to do is take any chance that might ruin the friendship I have with her. She’s my solace, my center. No matter what happens with my life or the club, I know I can come back to Carrigan and everything calms down.

I always thought I’d be okay when she finally got in a serious relationship, that I’d be happy for her.

But jealousy is something I’m not used to and it turns me into a force to be reckoned with.

When Carrigan is around, she seems happy with her new relationship, until the night she comes in with bruises and a busted face. Turns out she’s been hiding a hell of a lot from me, and now it’s time she fess up.

Her boyfriend may think he’s untouchable because his crime family has his back. Yeah, well, he hasn’t seen what family can do out of revenge . . . But he’s about to.

I don’t care how hard he tries to run and hide, I’m taking Carrigan back and making her mine, and then I’m taking his life for ever putting a hand on her.

Courtney grew up in Baltimore and is pretty sure she threw her ability to give a f**k into the Inner Harbor long before high school. Like almost every writer on the planet, she started writing at a very young age. Her “way with words” led to her being the go-to person for writing funeral speeches for a long time.

For fourteen years she worked full-time as a paranormal investigator and demonologist until retiring in 2014. During that time, she had three children, earned a degree in Psychology, and eventually got back to writing.

Today she lives in Middle Tennessee with her children and boyfriend, and spends the majority of her time writing things that make people smile while cutting their emotions deep, running her own professional editing company, and enjoying life

ARC received via BookSprout for honest review

I’ve got to be honest here. If I didn’t have an ARC for this it would have been a DNF pretty early on.

I liked book one but this book and I got off on the wrong foot from the very start and never recovered. The issues I have with this are most likely personal preference. As an avid MC reader I have certain pet peeves that just turn me off. Unfortunately, this book was littered with them. YMMV.

15 years. That’s how long Dire was in love with Carrigan and never did anything about it. Except sleep in her bed repeatedly (yes, just sleep) work alongside her, hug her, flirt with her, protect her...and have plenty of sex with club girls in front of her, too. Please note this is not really a spoiler as it all happens in the first few chapters. And it’s not the club girls that bother me. It’s how ridiculous his reasoning is for never trying to be with Carrigan. No spoilers but FFS, what a pointless waste of 15 years. There are multiple instances on-page that he’s totally oblivious to that prove how wrong he is. So, yeah. I thought Dire was a whole lot of things. None of them complementary. And then the minute she gets a boyfriend he’s all “Grrrr, mine”. Did I mention he kept her on a string for 15 years...

Basically, this book didn’t reel me in. It was fairly predictable and there were plot holes that not even the sexy female mercenaries that the MC relies on to sort out all of their issues could distract me from them this time. And let me say that all the goodwill this author garnered for her kick-arse character, Faylinn, in book 1, was lost on me here. I’ll never understand why she would do that to her...again. Graphically. And on-page. I do see the possible intent behind it but it still felt unnecessary. By the end I just wasn’t invested.

But plenty are loving this so...it might just be me.

A Great Addition to the Series

Carrigan and Callahan have been best friends for forever with their mothers being besties and their fathers were the Prez and VP of the Emerald Isle MC. They never voiced their feelings for each other but everyone knew of their special connection.

This book was full of twists and turns and had full out drama that kept me turning pages. It sure brought me to the edge sometimes…and I loved every minute of it.

This was another great installment to the Emerald Isle MC series and I can’t wait to read more.

Love of best friends

Dire and Carrigan have been best friends forever. They both secretly love each other however Dire is afraid of he acts on his feeling if anything was to go wrong he would lose his friend. Carrigan has tried everything including flirting nothing seems to work.

She go to drastic measures and dates Miquel however in the end he is very dangerous and does something to bring the MC down on him. Unfortunately a war has begun.

Loved seeing the Mercs again.

OMGosh!! I thought Shamrock killed me when I read it, but Dire shattered me. This was one rollercoaster ride of emotions. Dire and Carrigan’s story is about friendship and love. Carrigan and Dire have known each other since they were little. They became each other’s best friend and have leaned on each other during hard times and grew even closer. They both love each other, but keep it to themselves. Everyone knows they love and care for each other and is waiting for them to admit it to each other. Dire cares for Carrigan more than anything and would do anything to keep her in his life and keep her from getting hurt. This MC is all about brotherhood and family, whether you’re blood or not. They will fight to the death for those they love. Grab some tissues and hold on for a wild ride. Get ready to see some familiar faces. While this can be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest reading Arctic (prequel) and Shamrock. Courtney has done another fabulous job with our Emerald Isle men. I absolutely loved this book and all the characters. I was hooked from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down.

Dire by Courtney Lynn Rose was an emotional, suspenseful, passionate story about Dire and his best friend Carrigan, Shamrock's sister who is also the President of the Emerald Isle MC and the after math of Faylinn's return to the family. Dire and Carrigan have grown up together in the club and have a bond so strong that nothing will keep them apart. Carrigan wants Dire but he keeps putting her off, not sure if she should be involved with a biker as he wants her to have a better life and is afraid that he will lose his best friend if he makes her is. Carrigan is as feisty as they come and all she wants is Dire, but how can she make him want her? Now Faylinn has a plan to help her best friend, she tells Carrigan to start dating in order to make her brother Dire jealous. When a dark handsome man comes into the bar and asks her out she agrees, but Dire and her brother decide to check him out, but they can't find anything on him. Now will this relationship turn deadly and bring another threat to the Emerald Isle MC that they won't expect? All Dire can think about is that he may have lost his chance with Carrigan and decides he needs to tell her how he feel. Now these two confess their feelings but don't act on it until Carrigan breaks things off with Miguel. When she tells him she no longer wants to see him, he beats her and locks her in his room. Carrigan finally escapes and makes it to the clubhouse broken and beaten. Now Dire and Shamrock are out for blood, when the truth of Miguel's identity comes out and that he is the son of the leader of the Mexican Cartel, a war has been declared. When Miguel and his men try to get Carrigan, a fight ensues and Miguel is beaten and tied up and ended for his part in hurting Carrigan. This story had so much drama, angst, violence and murder as a kidnapping will occur. Now with the help from the Mercs, Dire and the men of the Emerald Isle MC they have to get back was was taken from them as these hard ass men will end who ever touches what belongs to them. Will they arrive in time, who will come out of this alive as these women of the Emerald Isle MC are strong, brave and will prove just what they are made of. This is a story about family, trust, brotherhood and most of all undying love. This is a must read, as Courtney Lynn Rose has a way of pulling her readers in with this thrilling series, can't wait for the next book!

Another great book by Courtney Lynn Rose. Dire was a wonderful read/audiobook. Highly recommend to anyone that loved friends to lovers or MC romances. Dire knew he loved Carrigan since childhood but was always to scared to admit it and ruin their friendship. Carrigan was attracted and in love with Dire but knows he won’t do anything about it. Tired of waiting for Dire she accepts a date from a customer. Dire and Carrigan are so close they sleep at each other’s house in the same bed. It’s torture for the two of them but Dire won’t risk their friendship and Carrigan doesn’t think that Dire wants her as much as she wants him. When Carrigan agrees to the date Dire is jealous but Shamrock, Carrigan’s brother, has a talk with him and told him to claim his sister or get out of the way. so she can move on. Dire takes a small step back but it was making him see red to see her dating. After dating for two and a half weeks Dire has had enough and makes a move on Carrigan and he tells her he wants her to break up with the guy she was seeing and let him claim her. She agrees but when she went to break things off with Miguel, the guy she was dating, she realizes he was not what he seemed and he became abusive and tried to stop her from leaving. She manages to escape and calls Dire. Dire was enraged when he saw what happened and after hearing what Carrigan had to say. Carrigan’s brothers are just as pissed and they swear that Miguel won’t hurt her again. After Carrigan tells them everything that happened it is apparent that Miguel’s father is part of the cartel. Dire always had a bad feeling about Miguel and had the brothers do a background check but they had only done a basic check and he had seemed like a simple business man. Thinking the Dire was just jealous they had dropped it. Now they all wished they had dug a little deeper. To find out how it all ends you will need to read or listen to Dire and Carrigan’s story yourselves. You won’t regret it. The narrators really enhanced the whole audiobook experience. So whether you read or listen to this book 📚 you will love it.

This was my first experience delving into the world of the Emerald Isle MC. This is the second book in the series, but it's not necessary to read the first one to understand this book. It would definitely help but not super important as this book is about different characters in the MC. It started off very promising, I was really enjoying it. Then, just before halfway this book basically revolved around one characters pregnancy. Personally, that's not what I read a romance book for. One thing that really bothered me is that the character gets pregnant and was very upset by it, yet there was no talk of abortion. She felt like she had to have this baby regardless of the circumstances which I feel is wrong. Abortion is always an option, women have the right to choose, and even if abortion wasn't the right option for this character it should have at least been discussed. The other glaring obstacle for me was the linking of heinous murder and sex. There was an instance where someone was murdered very violently and then immediately after sex was had. It was weird and super uncomfortable to read.

On the plus side, the writing in the book is great, and I really liked all the characters. I liked how they all interacted and were a family. It is a shame to me that those couple things weren't right for me to enjoy this book fully as I felt it could have been a 5 star if not for those things. For the right person, this would be a great book to read. If you are into MC romance books I'd give this a shot and make your own decision.

I received a free copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Carrigan has been in love with her best friend Dire forever. He's in love with her too but doesn't want to risk their friendship. She decides to accept a date in a attempt to make him jealous. It works but when she goes to break up with the guy, Manuel who she thought was a good guy he beats her and locks her in a room. He is the son of a powerful cartel man whose known to be very violent. She escapes but after Dire's motorcycle group, the Emerald Isle retaliates for her beating they're in lockdown expecting blowback from the cartel. Dire takes blame for Manuel's assault and is arrested. During that time Carrigan discovers that she is pregnant but decides not to tell Dire until he's released. When he's released and they decide that there is little risk in going out for the night they are attacked by the cartel. Carrigan and Faylinn, who is Dire's sister are taken hostage. While the Emerald Isle is trying to come up with a plan to save them they get a message from Faylinn that makes them choose their plan. While being held hostage Faylinn tries to protect Carrigan and her baby so she takes all the abuse. The mens plan works and they are saved but they have to come up with a solution to protect themselves from any more trouble from the cartel. I loved the first book and couldn't;t wait for the second one to come out. It didn't disappoint and I will be waiting for more of this series. If you like MC series, definitely give these a try.

Great Gritty Biker Romance. Almost perfect balance of romance, sex, drama, action and pain. I haven’t had the chance to read the first story before reading this, but when I read the blurb on booksprout, I knew I had to read it. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t read a lot of biker romance anymore since most times it’s repetitive and that’s gets boring but this one had me hooked from the start. Carrigan and Callahan were raised together since the start since their mothers were best friends and their fathers were the formal Prez and V.P. and all their siblings are involved with the club. These two are soulmates and they were met to be together but Callahan was stubborn and waited until some other guy showed interest and the been eye monster came to call. But in the beginning of this story Callahan ‘Dire’ was balls deep in a club ‘reliever’ before he works nest to the only woman he ever loved but couldn’t have... Stubborn!

**** Trigger warning***
As to the only thing I didn’t like to read ever is when Carrigan and her future sister in law & Dire’s sister Faylinn (Shamerock’s old lady) was kidnapped by the cartel and a month into their hostage situation, a group of cartel men beaten and raped Faylinn in front of Carrigan. And when they got rescued it was like it was sweep under the rug and was never mentioned nor did Faylinn have any mental trauma...

This is my first read by this author. Not having read the first in the series I wasn't too lost but it probably would have been best to read in order.

While I liked the writing style I just wasn't feeling it. The H/h have been secretly in love, or lusting after, each other for 15 years! 15 years!!!! And I just didn't get it at all. Dire says he can't have her because of her brother (the Prez) and the club but the Prez literally tells him to shit or get off the pot with his sister, that it's cruel to string her along for 15 years. Sounds like the green light to me. And the H/h were not stealthy about anything physical before they "officially" got together. Sleeping, eating, hugging, hanging out 24/7 for YEARS. I know I keep coming back to the years thing but I just can't buy this situation. And then what happens... h finally starts seeing someone and H acts like a jealous raging asshole. Jealous raging asshole is usually my jam but it's just selfishness here. The violence in this book was pretty in your face so trigger warning here. I feel like to go into details about the violence and the other issues later on in the story would be spoilers.

The plot is kinda predictable and that's ok with me. I love MC books and eat them up with a spoon. While I didn't really love this book I would totally read another in this series.

I was so excited about this book. Actually I'm excited about this whole series. After finishing the first book I want to know about Dire and Carrigan. I wanted to know more and more did this book give me. Dire has put Carrigan into the friendzone even though he truly loves her. He fears that if they start something and it doesn't work out the friendship they have will suffer. At times I wanted to shake Dire and knock some sense into him. When Carrigan starts to date someone else he finally sees the truth in their friendship. But of course, the boyfriend is not the kind of guy to walk away making the MC going to war with the Cartel. There is time in this book where I had the read the pages with one eye close because the scene was so graphic and heartbreaking. Faylinn Carrigan's best friend and from the first book Shamrock gets put back into the situation she was in before and those scenes were hard to get threw. All in all this book was such a beautiful love story between two people who have loved each other forever and a story about family and loyalty of this MC club. I can't wait until the next book.

**Warning this has triggers and it does not glaze over it so you are warned.**

I love reading dark and gritty books but this one was something else. I thought the first book was amazing but this one was just as good. So Carrigan is Shamrocks sister so she is pretty much an MC princess. She grew up in the club life and when Fay disappeared her and Fays brothers along with Shamrock become close. However, she become closer to Dire. She cried on his shoulder when she needed to. She was there for him as well. When you have two people who becomes close you know someone is going to catch feelings right. So you will see that Carrigan seems to have been sheltered while she has been in the club life. She knows that there are things that she does not need to know that the club does but she has never been in a situation where she sees the darker side. That all changes for her one day. I mean I was terrified for her because of her condition and whether she would be able to survive the torment. I cried for her and wanted to take her place. I felt as though I was with her in the story. My heart bled for her and hoping that she would get her happily ever after. This is a great follow up to Shamrocks story and just as brutal. Make sure you have tissues on hand, you will need it.

This was my first read by Ms Rose. For a relatively new author, she has a easy style to her stories that acted like quicksand. I needed to get to work and I didn't want to put the book down. Carrigan and Callahan or Dire as he is known in the club, have known each other forever. Best friends, supporting each other over the years through some tough times. Carrigan has loved him for a long time but is tired of waiting. She figures he doesn't feel the same and decides to move on at the urging her other best friend, Callahan's sister. Callahan has held back from making a move, terrified that if it didn't work out he would lose her completely. When she decides to start dating, he still hesitates. When the guy she had been seeing roughs her up, Callahan comes to his senses. Things get really rough for the club and then the story got very intense. Trigger warning, for violence against women. I loved how things turn out in the end. Vengeance is sweet, that's all I'm saying. If you are looking for an MC series with some grit, hot sexy bikers and fierce women with spines of steel you need to check out Emerald Isle MC!

This one went off the rails a bit for me. The whole 15 year timetable is getting annoying at this point. H is a manwhore who won’t admit his feelings for h, because he doesn’t want to lose her as a friend. But magically he claims her after the first time she starts dating someone else.🙄 Bad news is the guy she’s dating turns out to be in a drug cartel, so that’s not good. Lots of bad stuff happens and the morons over at the Emerald Isle MC let the h and Faylinn get kidnapped and held by the cartel for weeks. Cardigan is 4 months pregnant and Faylinn gets brutally raped while being held captive. Nice job boys! Don’t get me started on the evil clubwhores who taunt h and throw blood on her at one point. Somehow they are still with the club. 🤔

The next book is about Timber and one of the nice clubwhores. I don’t think I’ll be reading that.

Also, I started reading Claddagh’s book first and decided to go back so I knew what had happened in the previous books, so it bummed me out to read about him and Motormouth fucking and him probably being devastated when she left town. Why put that in if you know he’s getting a book with a different h?

Finally, Dire and Carrigan's story is being released! I've been waiting for their story since Faylinn and Shamrock entered our reading life! Boy, this story didn't disappoint in the slightest! It was well worth the wait. If you're read "Shamrock", you'll know the importance of Dire in not only the MC; but to others in the first book. Carrigan and Dire are best friends and both try to keep their distance emotionally. However, Dire is absolutely in love with Carrigan. Add into the equation trouble and you've got a dynamic story. The secondary characters are awesome, but so are the favorites from the first book in this series.

Believe me, this series keeps getting hotter and hotter! Jump on the Courtney Lynn Rose express while seats are still available. Love, love, loved this book.

While I did receive a free ARC from Booksprout, I fell in love with Dire and Carrigan. I bought this book and will continue to support this series!! I can't wait for the next one!!

Well now, THIS is a HOT little read. This book has everything. Dire/Callahan O'Shea and Carrigan Adair have been best friends forever and they've danced around how they feel about each other for YEARS. He's afraid he'll lose his best friend and she's afraid she'll be rejected if they act on how they feel. When she starts dating Miguel, a customer who came into her bar, things change rapidly. Miguel is the son of the cartel boss and is bad freakin news! And he doesn't take it well when Carrigan goes to break things off with him. All he*l breaks loose after this and Miguel winds up on the losing end with Shamrock and Dire. As retaliation comes both Carrigan and Faylinn end up getting taken and The Mercs come in to help Emerald Isle again. This is a wild ride and most definitely a great one!

OMG, I have been waiting for this story, Dire and Carrigan have loved each other since they were kids but being best friends, Callahan didn't want to spoil their friendship if it didn't work out, Carrigan has had enough waiting for him to make his move and on the advice of Fay starts dating a guy, it goes on for a couple of weeks and Carrigan makes it official that Miguel is her boyfriend, as Dire had been getting more and more jealous he finally snaps when he hears this and makes his move. As Carrigan goes to tell Miguel she is breaking up with him because her and Callahan are getting together all hell breaks loose, what they did not know was that his father is the head of a big cartel, and now Carrigan is on a lockdown.
I cannot say more because it would spoil the suspense, I highly recommend this book, I am sure you will ge glued to the pages as I was.

Two best friends, a love denied because they don't want to ruin the friendship/love they do have for each other. A young woman who ends up being in an abusive relationship because she thinks she can't be with the one person she really wants. A man who wants revenge for his woman being hurt, even if they aren't actually together at the time.

The chemistry and longing between these two people is off the roof. The love is obvious, and the willingness to be exactly what the other person needs, even if it's not wrapped in pretty bows, is priceless.

If you want a love story that knows no bounds, if you want a book where the people put each other first instead of themselves, or a book that's gritty and down to earth, the check out Dire. This makes the perfect book for the second book in the Emerald Isle MC series.

Loved this dark MC romance!!

Carrigan and Callahan "Dire" have been best friends for a very long time. They both have romantic feelings for one another, they are just too afraid to tell each other because they don't want to ruin their friendship. When Carrigan starts dating another man, Dire decides its time to own up to his feelings. So after Dire tells Carrigan they decide to be together. When Carrigan goes to break up with her boyfriend he smacks her around and locks her up telling her they aren't done until he says they are done. Cardigan gets away, finds Dire and the rest to the MC and when they see Carrigan they know they're going to make her ex-boyfriend pay for laying his hands on her. But he happens to be the son of El Jeffe, the cartel boss and it's going to start a war to go after him. This is a wonderful story and I highly recommend it!

I loved this book. Dire/Callahan and Carrigan have been best friends since inception. They are in love with each other but afraid to admit it as they don't want to loose the friendship. When Carrigan begins dating Miguel a patron at the bar she coowns with Dire, Dire realizes if he doesn't do something he is going to loose her. Ge finally confesses and they get together. She breaks up with MIgiel but he doesn't want to let her go. He beats her. When Dire and her brother find out they beat him up and tben a he breaks loose when the cartel who Miguel is a part of and the Emerald Isle MC go at each other. This is a fast paced book with HEA. The one thing the Dire wants is Carrigan his best friend, but that could ruin everything that they have and he's not taking any chances.
Carrigan is tired of waiting for Dire to make a move sometimes he's hot and others he's cold, she knows that he has put her in the friendship box the last place she wants to be. Faylinn is Dires sister and she knows her brother and he needs a little push to get him to make his move on Carrigan, and she knows just how to do that. Pushing Carrigan to start dating again and that should push everything forward. What they didn't know was going to hit was the man she chooses to go out with isn't happy when she dumps him and now the club will have to deal with the Cartel and put everyone in danger.

What a great addition to the Emerald Isle MC Series. Ms. Rose, in my humble opinion, always gives us a great storyline with great characters in her books. She didn’t disappoint me with Dire. The book is very emotional with some very interesting turns of events in this friends to lovers plot.

Carrigan is the club princess and Dire is her best friend. They have always been there for one another. Both secretly had stronger feelings for each other but didn't act on them for fear of destroying what they have. But when Carrigan’s latest relationship turns south and she can no longer hide the truth from Dire things start to heat up in more ways than one.

Fantastic read that this highly recommends grabbing up along with Book 1 in the series, Shamrock. You won’t regret it.

WOW! EMOTIONAL

I LOVED THIS BOOK! This book was so much more than I expected. I was consumed from the first page. This book was just as emotional as the first. At times my heart was pounding with excitement and at times I was crying in sadness and in happiness. When Carrigan and Faylinn got taken it was so intense it was nail biting. What Faylinn endures for save Carrigan was so heartbreaking it was horrifying. If I were Carrigan I don't think I would be able to close my eyes ever again without seeing it. Dire/Callahan and Carrigan make such an amazing couple. Perfect together and when they're alone they're SAF. Once Dire pulled his head out of his butt. Lol! Now if Timber and Grey would follow his lead. The new addition was such a special treat, it was so heartwarming I cried again but this time happy tears. Lol. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO EVERYONE!

I was hooked from the very first page! Dire is book 2 in the Emerald Isle MC Series by Courtney Lynn Rose and it was intense. You don't have to read book 1 but I definitely recommend it. Dire has been in love with his best friend Carrigan for years. Dire is the VP of the MC and Carrigan is the sister of the President so Dire is conflicted. Carrigan loves Dire too but since he hasn't shown any interest she begins seeing Miguel, a guy she met at the bar she owns. Without giving away spoilers, Miguel is not the man Carrigan believes him to be and when she tries to break it off, things get very intense. I will warn you there are possible triggers in this book so please be warned. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good MC book!

Said I had to read books 1 & 2 if I wanted Timber as an ARC, so I got them, as I really wanted to read Timber.
Well I am hooked, I read non stop from 4 pm until 3:00 am and read all 3 books.
Strong women, loyal men, family is everything.
I never found my forever love, but these stories still give me hope for my children, grandchildren and great grandkids. Because to write about love, loyalty, trust like these couples have found it must exist, I hope each of you reading this finds the love that stays through the hard times and knows that
Love is trust, hope, belief and endurance.
I cryed, laughed, hoped and loved right along with Dire and Carrigan, and the others. A re-read set for me.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Okay to Unacceptable

So this one started off similar to the first book in terms of character depth. Hero loves the heroine but sleeps with everyone else. Heroine was a bit pitiful for always waiting for him.
The story progressed fine. Pretty standard and predictable. Then we get some gruesome disgusting twist 3/4 of the way in and I was sickened. The only way to describe it without getting my review flagged for community standards is that Faylinn’s trauma repeats itself, graphically on page and then she shrugs it off with ‘been there, done that’. It was completely unnecessary to the story to go that far.
I was looking forward to Timber next but I need to reconsider this series.
