This short was everything! Press Rewind was such a sweet second chance story. Holly and Dean's reconciliation was so heartwarming. I would've loved a few more pages on them. I see they're still runnin' Dancin' Azz Donnie down. Y'all gon' let my boy make it. LOL!!! I so enjoyed the Equilibrium series. This trip back to Mahogany Heights was everything. CCJ managed to create an authentic fictional black community filled with beautiful people and black excellence. Everything from the businesses to all of the couples just keeps you wanting more of The Heights. Well done Ms. Jones! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⅓
Frosted. Whipped. Buttered: ⭐️⭐️⭐️🧈
Plus One: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🦃
Press Rewind: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⏪️

🧈My thoughts: Frosted. Whipped. Buttered: An Equilibrium Novellette - This was short but good.

🦃 Plus One - I may have been biased since the best friend shared my name but this story made me laugh a few times.

⏪️ Press Rewind - This was okay.

I was going to read Grow Something first but once I discovered it was tied to a series, that I've only read book 3 of, I decided to read Holiday in Heights first thinking it was independent and I could catch up on the series before starting Grow Something. I couldn't find Holiday in Heights on any lists so it wasn't until I started and looked up Frosted. Whipped. Buttered that I discovered all of these stories are Equilibrium novellettes and part of the series. So I'm going to continue to read them out of order. They are super short the kind where the story just ends. Only the first story has sex.

Recommend to others: Sure. These are quick little story breaks.

Quick read, second chance romance novella. It’s not bad and I really recommend if you’re in bed one night, can’t sleep and just want something quick. Christina C. Jones knows how to capture emotions and go there. Though short, I was rooting for these two to find their way back to one another!

Short and Sweet

This story was super short and sweet not a lot of character development however I liked the story. I wished that more time was spent on the two main characters and not the friend scene.

Rewind Again!

Even with this being an extremely short read, CCJ got straight to the point of what needed to be said and done. Definitely could've read more but the point was made

4.5 ⭐️
Tropes:
-Black Romance
-Second chance (kinda)
-Music Industry

CW/TW:
18+

This was another shorty but goody, Holly is a singer, and she finally gets an opportunity for a big break, but it's at the cost of her relationship with Dean, who may or may not be the love of her life. But of course, this is a romance so they will get their HEA.

I liked how I felt I got a whole story in only 22 pages. I was very into Dean and Holly and was rooting for their reunion as if I knew them for 300+ pages. I love when music is the love language of the relationship. This was such a cute conclusion to Equilibrium, and it was quite different because we hadn't met Holly and Dean in the previous books. And I enjoyed how in this book, they put their pride aside and talked and acknowledge all the love they had for each other and that it was more important than standing in what they individually saw as the truth of the situation. We love when people act like adults!

Def pick this up when you want something short and sweet!

Holly and Dean were super cute. Dang these short stories. But if I know CCJ like I think I do, I'm sure this won't be the last we see of these characters from the Heights.

Great series. Highly recommend.

While of course some [most?] of the mentioned characters were names I'd heard I think maybe because I hadn't read their book(s)/stories this one was my "least favorite" Equilibrium vignette?

It's definitely still cute but much more angsty and I felt it was more focused on the "we aren't together" than "we are together" - which obviously I get but also when the word real estate is so short devoting/the imbalance kinda was :| to me.

I actually really liked the ~snapshot/scenes we see Holly and Dean working together to write/record a song.
They're obviously perfect for each other, and this was another reunion story.

:P Maybe I'm just jealous cuz it was also a NYE story?

It was still quite though and some of the lines [lol ham hocks] - definitely noteworthy/why I continue to read CCJ

Dean and Holly had an arguement that ended their relationship months ago, but they stilled loved each other. On New Years while Holly was out with friends, they discussed her and Deand relationship and they told her, they both missed each other and need to get back together. While going home to change, Holly made a stop and didnt expect to find Dean there. They talked made up and just at midnight, sealed it with a kiss. This was short, but it was just enough for a still in love couple to become one again. Mrs. Jones never disappoints with a story and I wasnt disappointed with this one!!! Great read as always!!!

If Mahogany Heights was real it would be on my bucket list to visit.!

It's a town only created in your imagination. The author has created a place that wraps itself around your heart. This series set in a mythical place centers around the various people who live there, want to live there , have family or friends who already live there. We get a glimpse of their lives through the authors story telling and what wonderful stories they are. You have to read the whole series. My only advice is to keep a pad and pencil nearby so you can make notes. It's not easy remembering who's who !

My introduction to the author. I honestly thought that this was a great short story. This author has a way with words that make you feel as if you're in the story alongside the characters. I got to the end wanting more forgetting that this was a short. My only critique is that there should have been just a little more leading up to Holly and Dean linking back up besides taunts from friends. If it wasn't for this I'd have definitely given it 5 stars. Also, if there isn't one already, Aurielle and Kevin deserve a story.

Holly & Dean Who?

“Press Rewind: An Equilibrium Novelette” was an ok read. Dean & Holly who, what, when why?Granted it’s been a while since a read the first six installments of the Equilibrium series. Nonetheless, I’m not familiar with these characters. Honestly, I searched my literary diary notes, I have nothing recorded, referenced or anything about Holly, Dean and or Aurielle. 🤨🤷🏾‍♀️. Consequently, I have no vested interest with their relationship rewind, rekindle or update.

Fast forward after you rewind

I'm in heaven this holiday season with all the amazing books from this place in Mahogany Heights. Holly and Dean pressed pause in their relationship and then rewound until they made the right connection again. My man Eddie made and appearance with his love Astrid. He always cracks me up. This short story was a great way to end the year with a fantastic love connection.

Packed a Huge Punch

Communication is the key for all relationships and we saw this between the main characters in this novella. For a quick read, this novella contained all the elements to keep you enthralled: Laughter, hurt, and redemption. Oh, and down right food writing! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A very good read to end the year!

Short and sweet

A short and sweet New Years eve love story. I always enjoy a good second chance love story. Dean and Holly make great music together that leads to a reconnection of their hearts on New Years Eve. While short Christina Jones gives another good story on black love.

Nice starter

I like short novella as they are good reads for lunchtime escapes but normally they are more complete. Although they move fast and sum the characters up quickly I never got a read on this group. Hopefully they’ll appear in another story and it will be clearer. I did like where the story was heading and I’m a true CJ fan always a pleasure to read her work.

Sweet

The emotions felt throughout this short novella were so strong, I could feel the regret, yearning, uncertainty and then hope and happiness. Press Rewind...it’s just that simple♥️
