Pick your lifelong mates, work out what Jedi mind tricks the black wolf is using on your mind and save the town you’ve come to love: it’s all in a day’s work for Jules.
Jules has been living the good life. She went from penniless and uncertain about her future to being able to turn into an incredibly strong paranormal wolf creature, living in a cute little town. Oh and with an expectation that she should create a harem from the many, many hotties fighting to be by her side. So how did it all go wrong?
Firstly, the heat has died down and so has the non-stop sexcapades, but Jules is now left with a group of guys who are starting to want a whole lot more from her. Mating bonds are permanent, usually for life and she’s not sure who to make that commitment to. Then there’s the black wolf. Lurking in his prison, he shouldn’t be able to touch Jules, so why is he entering her dreams, then creating chaos in life, all in pursuit of some mysterious goal he refuses to share? And to cap it all off, Sanctuary is under threat from hostile forces from beyond the trans dimensional gate.
Join Jules for the continuation of her story and see her fight for love, freedom and the town she now calls her own.
Cry Wolf is not a stand-alone. You will need to read A Wolf At My Door for this book to make sense. It contains 18+ very steamy scenes that make it not suitable for kids.
It was a couple of months since book #1 was out and I feared I would be frustrated to forget who’s was who... and I did. Sadly. This is why I dislike so much serials. Each time I feel I need to work hard to remember who is who and it happened here again. So I gave a 4 stars but also because I left a bit frustrated although I recommend this serial 100%!
I said it before, a werewolves story but with twists. I loved all the main characters. However, now that I finished book #2, I feel frustrated and a bit upset. Yes it is the expected cliffhanger since book #3 will close the story but mostly because I didn’t feel enough love somehow within her pack. I believe it is because I missed the males POV. I got mainly her POV and for me, it wasn’t enough.
I understand that book #2 was the logical confused characters falling for each other. I got that. But since book #3 should be published next May 1st as per the author, it is 4 months from now waiting for the conclusion.
Worth the wait, mind you but frustrating.
I also didn’t like the matriarchs which is quite logical. But the feeling I have is mostly frustration towards them. I felt treachery. It feels as if you know someone did wrong but get away with it... even if it made sense as it was a conflict between a patriarchal world and a matriarchal world. So yes, both leaders weren’t meant to be nice characters. I got that. But the conflict I was hoping from the main characters and the matriarchal leaders didn’t happen, and I felt this was missing.
All the individual and collective relationships were really captivating. Doubts, lust before love, trust to earn, acceptance, premises of a new relationship etc. Those were very well written and all relatable. It makes sense that book #3 will solidify all those relationships. Even if the author left one out when in the middle of book #2 it felt that one villain was going to be more and it will, I have no doubt but it felt flat at the end. The big villain becoming the guest of honor all over sudden was too much. The transition from villain to best ally not organic enough. The matriarch knew of him for decades, yet she waited doing nothing. I dunno. Seemed odd. Again some POV would have solved the issue in my opinion.
The relationships were very realistic and plausible. Especially the MM one but no surprise as the author published essentially MM I think. But the MM turning bisexual was well done and plausible which is always a challenge for me to believe. Not that I do not trust in bisexuality but in a long term MM couple accepting a woman in the mix. But it was well done. All other guys didn’t get enough depth. And as I said, male POV would have solved the issues imo.
So overall. Great trilogy. I just suggest to get the 3 books in hand to read it. Then, I promise you that you won’t be able to put it down!
You don’t think it can get much hotter than all the man candy and hot as hell scenes in Wolf at my Door, but then you read Cry Wolf and holy $hit, it’s a whole new level of hot. Forget using a spray bottle to help handle the heat (you know the Blanche GIF I’m referring to) you’re going to need a few buckets of ice water to cool off. I don’t know why I chose to read this book in bed at night because my poor hubby got ZERO sleep ;). Woo child, it doesn’t matter what I tell you; you can’t prepare yourself for this. I think what I loved most about Cry Wolf is that yes, there’s an issue arising with the Volken, but the main thing this book does is delve into the pack bonds that Jules is starting to form. There is loss, new relationships, jealousy and learning how to handle relationships within relationships, HOT scenes, betrayal and truth bombs dropped all over the place, happiness and strife, power plays, shocking discoveries and so much more. Just EVERYTHING you could ever want in one book. I am honestly having a hard time putting into words everything this book encompasses. Ms. Hall has produced amazing characters with depth who are trying to navigate a very unique relationship, and she has done an AMAZING job. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.
Cry Wolf is NOT a stand-alone; go read book 1 now. If you do not enjoy m/m within your reading, this book is not for you. If you have a hard time with members of the harem having a real relationship with someone other than the fmc, this book is not for you. And let me tell you, you’re missing out.
2 & 1/2 stars rounded up. Well, posting this after reading all 3 books in the series, I wish I hadn't read the whole series & wasted my time & it gave me one of those bad book-hangovers that makes me not want to pick up a book & read (unheard of for me!).
This book (#2) was ok, it held my attention enough to finish. I decided to give book 3 a shot when I was done with this. The plot was still slow mixed in with all the sex scenes, and it read more like erotica than a story. Way too much sex scenes, with the M/M being to heavy handed or maybe a shock value, considering this is supposed to be a RH. All of that sex took away from the relationship development and character development for me. I ended up skimming a lot of the sex scenes as they were just overwhelming in a bad way for me. I also hate the idea of a woman's heat driving the sex in these paranormal books, as it's so disturbing to me to think that it doesn't matter who it is, but just hormones driving the characters mad to have sex -with anybody.
Again, there were actually small places with movement in the plot but were hidden amongst all the sex. I don't understand the whole RH set up with this group, as I did NOT feel the "love", only the lust. & I didn't really like most of the guys- at all, and Julie/Jules was likable one moment, and then annoying as hell the next.
After 6 weeks of non-stop sex, she bites one of her sex partners thus marrying him. She is again expected to add more mates, receive guest, move for the 3rd time while being given the customary bits of information. She drops one of her sex partners, who turned out was pretending the whole time? Like he pretended to be a guy she'd like so she can pick him and turned out to be an asshole. Then she adds another 2 to her harem but those two are in a relationship themselves - Jack is a full-blown asshole and really I couldn't find him likeable at all. His relationship with Hawk, their repetitive sex scenes, his jealousy, bitchiness are the reasons I'm abandoning this series. I can't handle all the m/m action. I kept feeling they we cheating on her, if they are not devoted they should be out. I couldn't fathom the whining and believing himself a victim all the time. Blah. The story is good but not enough to keep me going, the sex in inventive like some really interesting prostate massaging she did but not enough to pull me in.
Definitely a step up for me compared to the first book.
Just going to put it out there right now, I enjoy smut as much as the next person but I felt like I was drowning in it in this book, not necessarily a bad thing but if your someone who doesn’t enjoy that in every chapter then this book is not for you. Also it wasn’t as much as the first which I was thankful for but it was still heavy with it.
Regardless the book in general is interesting to me. The different take on wolves has me intrigued and captivated enough to over look the smut and keep reading. The drama, mystery and undertone of something else at play makes the read an interesting ride and puzzle to unravel. The world of this book is unique and definitely makes the book stand out against others of this kind even with the different take on the wolves. Refreshing characters and situations you won’t see in other books. Characters are well developed and the growth we see from them is at a nice gradual pace and realistic. Definitely a real way in which they deal with the drama and obstacles they face which is really great.
I’m fascinated and I’m looking forward to the next book to uncover and discover more about this world. Definitely a book I’d recommend to anyone interested in wolves and a unique plot about them.
Really hot and interesting storyline. I gotta say I was disappointed with who her wolf didn’t choose. And the deceit and machinations opened eyes up to who really is the bad guy here. Can’t wait to read the third book!
The fantasy world building gets even more dramatic in this book. The story gets really dark. Lots of smut but heaps of relationship details. Another cliffhanger.
Julie and her men (they increased!) have to deal with a lot. A new attack on the Sanctuary is in the near future; a man she loved betrayed her, and someone whom she has always thought to be her enemy, turns out it isn't. Family secrets also come to light, so Julie has to 'woman up' and make decisions.
I like the story and how the relationship with Julie and her men plans out. However, there is a strong focus on the sex that I think somehow slows down the narration. My favorite part though is the consent. None of her guys do anything unless she explicitly say yes, and you don't always find this in novels.
I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book, and am posting my unbiased review. In the first book we we're introduced to the MC and teased with the dynamics and politics inside the settlement. The plot, twists, power struggles, and pack dynamics speed up and explode in book 2.
I love that we get to see Julie’s internal struggle to accept her new world view and her relationships with the guys. The author does a beautiful job of writing the intimate emotional moments with each of Julie's pack. As a MC she never comes across as fickle or illogical, just realistically cautious.
The steam, oh the steam... Prepare for all the feels - including the tingling ones, and to stay on the edge of your seat. Book one was by no means shallow, but book 2 really dives deep, to immerse you in their world.
I absolutely loved this book - even though it wrecked me.
So...... I liked but...... no I liked it. I kinda had some issues with our girl running away all the time but I got why she did. I was not happy that one of the guys that I like didn’t make her pack. I really want her to have a relationship with the black wolf. It could be an enemy to lover type of thing. Now if you have not read this yet, there is a cliffhanger in this book, just a FYI. So now I have to wait for the next book to come and I can’t wait.
So while I really like the idea of the story line and the community the author has created, I still struggled with the characters. Before I go further into this review, I highly encourage other readers to take the time to read the series and decide for themselves if this is something they like. Don’t just go off reviews because what I like may not be your cup of tea and I’ve never been very eloquent with words so I doubt I’ll explain my feelings of the book very well.
So the characters... I really didn’t like how the introduction of Hawk and Jack as potential mates to Jules was presented. It felt too conniving and too much like a lover’s quarrel with Jules thrown in the middle of it. This entire book just gave me odd vibes between the 3 of them that had me questioning just how sincere and honest this relationship even is. It just wasn’t a good foundation for their relationship in my opinion. The dismissal of Shaun really shocked me since I felt as if the relationship building with Jules and him was a little further along than some of the others. I guess if the whole plan was to reject Shaun, I just don’t understand why he was included in the first place. The author could have at least made him an unlikeable character in book 1 which would have smoothed the blow but I actually kind of liked him. As a whole, the men all seem rather forgettable and rather shallowly depicted characters, I don’t mean with morals but I just felt as if I don’t know any of the men and neither does Jules. I’m still confused with Sylvan. I thought he has bonded with Jules since he bit her like she has bonded with Finn and Slade but there isn’t ever any detailed explanation. I know he is a Seer but I still don’t know how he fits into Jules’ pack, if at all.
Now the writing in this book just didn’t do it for me and it did seem different compared to book 1. Actions and conversations between characters seemed abrupt and jumpy at times. The constant visions Jules saw with her and her mates in Wolf forms was jam packed with metaphors. I don’t have a problem with metaphors, but this was nothing but abstract metaphors that didn’t help me as a reader picture what was even happening. To me, they just didn’t make much sense at all and left me more confused as to what even happened.
Whew, writing reviews like this always makes me feel guilty or has me questioning my interpretation. That being said, it may have just been my mood or frame of mind when reading this book that has caused me to perceive it the way I did. I still encourage others to try the series for themselves because this is only my opinion. I personally do not think I will continue the series but I am not ready to write off the author completely yet.
If only reading for the smut, it's great - 4-stars. However, the introduction of seers and gods and the M/M couple Hawk/Jack made every existing relationship incredibly confusing, and I didn't feel there was truly a "pack" in the story so far.
The introduction of the Great Wolf gave me Reach for the Moon series vibes, which wasn't super unique. The revelation that didn't make much sense to me. Why did Sylvan care that his racial enemy was going to get wiped out? Or that his shitty patriarchal violent race would be unable to survive in the human world? Brandon gave absolutely no hint that the story was going make a revelation twist like that. Plus, Sylvan somehow mated the FMC Jules/Julie when he first attacked her - this was barely brought up except when convenient to make the cast seek out Sylvan for answers.
Lastly, I didn't understand the relationship between Hawk, Jack, and Jules at all. Jack and Hawk seemed like a perfectly happy committed couple, but for some reason, they both really lusted after Jules and wanted to have relationships with her. Jack kept playing hot and cold with whether or not he wanted to join, and Hawk's personality jumped all over the place. I really didn't like Jack and felt he could go jump in a fire pit for all I cared.
The harem is so large that most of the men barely got any time for character development. I wasn't convinced why Shaun got rejected, but someone like Aaron wasn't. There was a lot of word vomit about everyone's feelings, which didn't make for a very engaging read. Plot-wise and character-wise, this series still isn't the greatest, but I'm interested in seeing what is going to happen in the other world on their mission to save the exiled male slaves and take down the evil wolves. -------- Ratings - completed series: #1 The Wolf at My Door: ★★★★☆ #2 Cry Wolf (this book): ★★★☆☆ #3 Thrown to the Wolf: ★★☆☆☆ #3.5 Joining the Pack: ★★★☆☆
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first, which is actually pretty rare for me with sequels. It kept me interested with secrets and action and love. I especially enjoyed the fact that the harem is still not complete!
I don’t understand how we went from the ending of book one being in the middle of a meeting, to suddenly a threesome in the beginning of book two that had what seemed like a substantial amount of time had passed by. I don’t like how there isn’t a timeline of any sort set down.
Why do only females mark the males? That wasn’t ever explained. I don’t understand how the black wolf activated all of her mate bonds and bonded her to them, but she doesn’t even know who all she’s going to mate and has only marked one. Then she wakes up, stands naked in front of six different men, gets showered by one, but yet none of them notice the raised up mark or sent of him in her skin? Makes zero sense.
The little pity party she threw about taking men from their kids and wives was disgusting and stupid. She didn’t do anything. She didn’t seduce the men or try to take them. They chased her and she wanted nothing to do with it. She also didn’t hurt Jack or Hawk. Jack obnoxiously pursued her. She turned him down repeatedly. Yet it’s all her fault and she’s so horrible? Jesus Christ.
The lack of ages for everyone is something else this story is missing.
As far as Shaun goes, I knew he was a POS. His entitlement and hypocritical attitude is gross. He wasn’t there for Jules after he screwed her, wasn’t there when she almost died, he only wanted her when she was a powerful shifter. Then he’s got the nerve to insult her, because he’s “hurt” or something, and then suggests they run things like the black wolf, who rapes women, forces them to bare children, and one of which, attacked Jules, resulting in her almost dying.
The sudden change in POV in chapter 23 was stupid. For the entire first book and 80% of the second, we only had Jules’ POV. Then we finally get a new one and it’s not even her mates. It’s some character that we don’t even know. It’s very brief, then we’re right back to Jules, Not her mates.
Brandon. Ugh. That whole situation is jacked. Him being a seer, knowing of Julie all along, being sneaky the way he was, I don’t even know how I feel about it, but it’s a mess.
There is still so much unexplained that doesn’t make any sense. Where the heck are Jack’s dad’s? Why would Kelly banish her brother just because he didn’t agree on her ascension? Where is the explanation for these things? Why did Branson and Jack stop her from marking Hawk? None of it is explained properly.
This book is off to an explosively hot start! And although the tone might be more serious and involve more pack politics I am loving as much as the first one, if not more. And my love for the author has grown exponentially. Everything is more in this book, more characters, more emotions, more complication and as I mentioned more politics and more more seriousness. But, there is more hotness and more steam. Well, steam factor is through the roof! And the group dynamics are getting supercomplicated. The characters are developing and changing, each one in their own way, and there are some interesting addition in the story. Jules is still confused and rushed into making decisions she is not ready to make, while at the same time mostly kept in the dark and not fully informed. The author did a great job here, because at the same time I get a bit annoyed with her indecisiveness, and I also completely understand why she is so reluctant to make rash decisions. So many secrets are revealed in this book and so many questions get answered it's mind blowing. The reader finally starts getting the full insight into the author's idea of this story and it is so much more than I ever imagined. Like I said, mind blowing. Some of the secrets are so unexpected and there are a couple of entirely unexpected twists throughout the book. The general feel of the book becomes not only more serious but much darker, more ominous, and the ending is so exciting and just when I thought I had all my questions answered, the author gives me so much more to question and be curious about. I seriously cannot wait for the next book. This is a fantastic series! The series needs to be read in order: The Wolf At My Door (Pack Heat Book 1), Cry Wolf (Pack Heat Book 2), and Thrown to the Wolf (Pack Heat Book 3) coming soon.
Eh. Jules was too weak and selfish in this one. I wasn't a huge fan of the way Shaun got booted (seemingly out of nowhere) and then she introduced an MM couple into her harem (despite knowing her mates don't get on with one of the pair, and despite one of the guys being openly rude to her and acting jealous). She makes a big song and dance about wanting to be better and not hurt them - and yet disregards her guys' feelings over and over again with her choices.
I have to say though, I thought the M/M was done really well. It's not usually my thing so I was quite impressed at how the author handled the sex scenes. After a while, I actually preferred them to the M/F and MFM scenes.
The romantic elements though...not so much. I was hoping we'd get some slow, drawn-out relationship building between the mates, but nope. It's I-love-you's all-around after basically just weeks of sex. Even Brandon at one point says to Slade 'you don't even know her favourite colour!' and it made me lol because I'm not even sure he knows her age, cause we certainly don't.
The fun stopped for me once the focus of the story moves away from the earlier 'mates' like Finn and Aaron - who were awesome - to the latecomers who had enough drama in their own little couple without Jules getting involved in their relationship. Then I realised the whole setup of the black wolf was a complete red herring and I started to skim.
The book would have been much better had it focused more on character development and relationship building because with that many men, you need some time to get to know them otherwise it becomes boring and instalovey.
I'm disappointed with how this one went so I won't be reading part 3 but I will read Sam Hall again. I like her sex positivity and the lack of alphaholes in her writing so that's worth reading more of.
I hoped for more answers than we got in this book, the story was still pretty convoluted and the characters didn't get much more depth than they had (or rather didn't) in the previous book. Through the whole story I'm wondering just how old Julie is supposed to be, the guys too, I got the insta-lust because of the heat in the last book, but after six weeks they all declare deep love for each other. I kind of snorted at that, judging from Julie's POV, they didn't really have any meaningful conversations, she said or thought quite a few times that she doesn't know pretty much anything about her guys, and they suddenly love each other. How she forgot about Shaun was wild to me, if she fucked him only when she was in heat I would get it, but she was into him before that. He and Finn were the first guys she liked there, then after weeks of fucking and living together, she just said "sorry" and dropped him like a hot potato. His reaction was appalling, but I guess we didn't really know the guys, so who knows, he could have been an incel all that time. Adding Sylvan to the mix felt awkward, we hated his guts then suddenly we accepted him. Not really knowing his reasons for doing anything, I wouldn't want the guy anywhere near me after that vicious attack. Brandon's plot twist was fucking mean. I liked the guy, I thought he was a nerdy and sweet control freak, but learning that he knew shit that would happen made me feel more betrayed than Julie seemed to be. That made all his suggestions, words and behavior feel so calculated, and I don't like conniving guys. Why would he take her away if he knew she would almost die because of it? And I'm to believe that he loved her?
This is book 2 in the series. This book was amazing. I went through so many emotions. Sam Hall has done it again.
In the beginning, I was so frustrated with everyone because no one saw what was happening to Julie. Julie from heat was going away and the Julie I grew to love at the beginning of the series was back. She was questioning things and wanting to know what was going on. No one noticed this even the one person who should. I was so mad for her and yelling at the book. When someone finally noticed something would come up and Julie’s feelings would be forgotten. I questioned why they were like this but at the end of the book, I saw how much Julie has grown within herself and with the guys.
Strange things begin to happen around Julie to finally make others notice that something is happening to Julie and the community. I think this is the turning point for Julie. I cheered when those around her started realizing things weren't normal and we're more considerate of Julie.
There were new characters joining the group and others that left. A side of people I hadn't seen came out and I questioned whether the person portrayed in the first book was their true self. It made me realize why the community did things the way they did when it came to mating, waiting until after the heat had ended.
The guys just like Julie grew as individuals. They started to voice their opinions and needs. They grew as a group and I just loved it.
The cliffhanger has me reading the next book right now.
Oh My Great Wolf this book was fantastic!!! Cry Wolf delivers on so many fronts I’ll try to do it justice in my review. We get a wonderful mix of dystopian urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and reverse harem. In Cry Wolf Jules focuses on embracing her Tirian and solidifying the mate bonds with her guys. Plenty of questions from book one, The Wolf At My Door, are answered. Not all at once so there is plenty of suspense while you’re reading. I definitely have questions after reading this, new ones that is. Oh, and those mates of hers? Yeah, I’d like to slap some of them and not in a fun kinky way.
You definitely need to read book 1 in the series before you read this book. Also there is a good helping of M/M romance in addition to MMF. Cry Wolf is probably the heaviest in the steam department, which is saying something because TWAMD was no slouch in bed. I’m failing miserably at conveying how great this book is... In my defense the ending left me a little speechless and all those fire scenes addled my brain. Totally worth it though.
** Cliffhanger Warning! ** I like this book, while I'm mad at it at the same time. I enjoy how hot and heavy the romance part is (the boinking is getting even more steamy), while the plot moves pretty fast. Sometimes it feels like it goes too fast, though. I'm also angry at the author, or maybe the Great Wolf, for all the people who have been hurt in this story. Poor Shaun! I know that Julie / Jules doesn't mean to leave so many broken hearts in her wake, but it's making me sad.
Having said that, I like the plot twists and turns. I am enjoying how Julie's pack is shaping up. Sometimes when I'm reading a reverse harem, it feels like the relationships are too easy. There's plenty of angst, arguing, and love in this book. It's a big emotional rollercoaster ride. Some people are added, one is removed, and I get a sense that there will be more changes to come.
One thing that really rubs me the wrong way is how the black wolf, or Volken, named Sylvan (ha!) is released from prison and hardly anyone has a problem with that. I was prepared for Jules and her guys to distrust him, fight him, etc., but nope. Fairly smooth sailing, only a few questions asked, then everything is hunky dory.
I'm really not happy with the cliffhanger ending. I was even more irritated when I found an epilogue hiding amongst the advertisements for other books. The epilogue raised more questions. It should be moved to after the cliffhanger and before those links and ads.
***WARNING: PLEASE READ THIS BOOK IN AN AREA THAT IS COOL. THE HEAT COMING OUT OF THIS BOOK MAY CATCH DEVICE ON FIRE!!**
Okay so now that I have warned you, DANG SAM HALL, THAT WAS FREAKING HOT!!! So we continue with Jules getting her footing and understanding what a pack is. So now she has to pick her pack. She is having an internal battle, from being human her whole life to now being a wolf. While doing that she is also dealing with all the men who want to be in her pack. However remember the black wolf from book one, well he is one sneaky wolf. He causes chaos and at those moments she chooses a few guys to be in her pack. There is discord at first but then you see the guys realizing how she is really feeling. Bonds are cemented and there is betrayal that you do not see coming. Seems like a war is about to begin. Is Jules strong enough for what is to come. I can't wait to see how this turns out. The heat factor is off the charts in this book. This book will make you sweat ladies so be prepared.
I didn't think it could get any better but Sam Hall blew me away with this book. It literally starts out with a bang. Not only does this book have tons of steamy scenes, it also focuses on a captivating storyline that will keep your attention and keep you wondering what will happen next. The connections she makes with her guys actually follow the storyline and become very important in how current issues can be resolved. Not Besides dealing with her guys, the decision of who she is willing to fully pack bond to, and actually being open to new relationships and feelings, she also has to figure out the issue with the Volken/black wolves. There are secrets being kept and things being left untold by the leaders of Sanctuary. Expect to feel all the feels as characters open up to one another and connect on an emotional level. I was surprised by several things in this book including which characters I ended up liking and disliking. I hope to see a bit more of the black wolf in the next book and am interested to see what becomes of the bond that he and Jules have.
This book was so good! Jules is solidifying her place and her pack as her and her Tirian figure out what they want. There is a lot of heat and steam in this book with a lot of action! Jules is figuring out who she wants to keep in her pack and what it means to have a pack. The world building in this story is absolutely amazing! I loved every second of this book and it kept me turning the pages for more. Jules is such a strong character and so are her guys. Each one brings something different. I enjoyed the different dynamics. We learn more about the black wolves and what they want. We also learn more about what happens to people in this world if they don’t do as they are told. I can’t wait for the third book to see what happens. I want to learn more about the black and the white wolf along with how Jules’ pack will fair. They have a lot of obstacles in their way but they are much stronger when they are together! If you like RH with some mm definitely give this series a go you won’t regret it!
I don’t like the out of body experiences. Ok, there, I said it. It was often time confusing because their human halves were still going on as normal and suddenly you’d have the characters in another plane chatting it up or doing wolf pack stuff and I don’t know, it was just too much. I get that the tirian and human as separate, but they’re supposed to be one too. And there wasn’t just one or two scenes like this, it’s like half the book. Aside from the astral plane thing, the book was pretty good! We’re getting in the meat of the plot with the black wolf, what’s coming for Sanctuary, and the weird relationship between Ophelia-Kelly-Brandon. Why does Ophelia have such big dick energy but doesn’t hold the alpha position? She mentioned Brandon was her protege, but what does that really mean? Where does Kelly fit into all this? Ha! And that’s all background noise to the main characters figuring out their relationship dynamic, emotions, and battling a psychic attack from the black wolf. Talk about one hell of a ride.
This was crazy hot but beyond that it delved into the deeper relationships and emotions of the character. Dont get me wrong, it's still a paperback romance novel but its way deeper than many I have read.
There was some minor confusion in a couple of places as to what exactly just went on but I think that maybe due to the author having a slightly different way of speaking. She has an Australian dialect vs my american. I've actually enjoyed the differences in word choice and in how the sentances and dialogue flow. I did have to reread a couple parts but was able to figure it out with out much trouble. Heat and mate also mean a bunch of different things in this book so just have to make sure you know what's what.
Over all 5 star book. Would recommend for hot hot steam, and lots of it, and for interesting interpersonal relationships and social dynamics. Plot is pretty light but that hasnt really been the main focus. I think it might be in the next book.
