After my brother’s death, I was drowning. Delilah was my life raft. We were opposites, the outspoken art student and the brooding athlete. She was passionate where I was apathetic, bright where I was dark, soft where I was hard. For two years, we had everything. Then she left and took my heart with her. I tried to heal. To throw myself into medical school. To forget her. I thought I did. Until today. Those blue eyes, that sweet smile, the soft curves--that’s my Delilah. As soon as I hear her laugh, I know. She’s what’s missing from my life. I have three days. Either I win her back or I stay broken forever.
When You Were Mine is a romance collection featuring Broken, Dangerous Kiss, and Hooking Up. Plus extended excerpts of Dirty Husband and The Best Friend Bargain. Come read this collection of emotional second chance romances and find out why readers say “no one writes broken bad boys like Crystal Kaswell.”
Crystal Kaswell is the author of the Sinful Serenade series. She writes steamy new adult romance with flawed characters. She loves police procedurals, tea, and The Hunger Games series. She lives in Portland, OR with her husband.

One, too many gender based references...
Delilah to Trent::: Have you ever taken a gender studies class?" she asks. “Well, you should. I did last semester, and even though I was really versed on the subject, I learned a lot. I'm taking a Race in America class next year. Well, I want to. But it's popular." "Yes, some people care about understanding others." “Empathizing?" "I guess you could say that. But it makes it seem so emotional. It is. But it's logical too. It's about society, statistics, economics. Not just feelings”.
Why would a man in particular take a gender studies class? Is he experiencing an identity crisis? Does society decide a class influences human behaviour? Gender studies is a field of interdisciplinary studies devoted to analysing gender identity and representation. This field is mutating a hype that has not subverted disciplines by producing new interpretation or epistemology.
Try setting electronics aside long enough to engage in a bona fide interaction...rather than being enslaved to technology and the veil of indifference. Using non-electronic tools to engage with another person is enlightening.
Delilah::: “You're right. I shouldn't be so gender normative."
“I called out our teacher's sexist book list. It was BS. Two books a month and not a single female author." Trent: A few months ago, I'd have thought they had too much time on their hands.
Trent: Now, yeah. But she was ‘shook’ for a while. (Could benefit from a proofreader).
Delilah: That ache between my legs needs to go. (Menstrual cramps, or a walking hormone)?
This book contained copious amounts of unimpressive sexual innuendos which seemed contrived and forced.
Her big reason for departing was her admission of anti-depressants and her suicide attempt. It’s not an easy topic but it didn’t warrant such avoidance or mystery.
Best line in this entire story refers specifically to her father’s ‘emotional constipation’.

[did not finish] gonna stop reading this author's books. the way she wrote this book is just weird, like all the sentences are in short phrases for the first few chapters i read. i mean this is a novel, not a poem book, why are there so many all short phrase? trying to shorten the explanation?
I read these 3 books as their standalones. I loved them. They are all filled with the angst that Crystal excels at. Second chance romances with all the feels.
Dangerous Kiss is the first book in the Dangerous Noise series. Violet and Ethan were together until she chose to go to NY for college instead of stay near him. During her years away, the band hit the big time and Ethan has buried his pain in partying and groupies. Full of angst and rock star goodness. And a second chance at happiness.
Hooking Up is the second book in the Inked Hearts series. Walker and Iris hook up and because he insists on not knowing anything from her past, her secrets derail them. Super steamy. And angsty.
But those won't break your heart as much as Broken. I FLOVE this story.
Trent doesn't know why Delilah left him suddenly 2 yrs before. And now she's back for her sister's wedding.
He's spent the two years broody, going to med school, and sleeping around but nothing serious.
She is a mystery to him but he'd like to solve her.
She needs to tell him her secrets but is terrified of his rejection or perhaps lack of understanding.
This story takes us on their journey back to each other and to honesty. Angsty, sweet, happy, sad, a bit tortured, but in the end, they find pieces of themselves in each other to fill the spaces they hadn't been able to fill apart.
I wrote the following for Broken originally but it works for all of them: Crystal writes fantastic angst, heartbreak, and, in the end, hope. Even the broken can find happiness.
Its was hard for me to get into this book. It wasn't until chapter 7 when they talked about the past when they first got together. But even then that was boring.
I don't know who proofread it, or if anyone did, but there are typographical errors. I'm not the best but when you refer to him as a her a few different times it kinda messes up the flow of the story.
It's hard to read about people who are manic depressive and don't know anyone personally who is or has gone through it. But the way its written it kind of sucks you into their world and in their head. The way he tries to be there for her when he finds out is good.
This isn't what I thought the book would be about. This isn't what I expected from the writer. The story was slow and didn't pull me in enough to want to read page after page. I stopped after the first story. It's not enough for me to finish the book.
Don’t you love when you find that author that can deliver all the feels with EVERY book they write? This amazing collection is the perfect starter to the worlds created by Crystal Kaswell.
Broken gives you a first hand view of depression and the brokenness that many people don’t understand. You will fall head over heals in love with Trent and Delilah as you cheer them on to the ending your heart knows they deserve, but not without breaking your heart as you read about their broken hearts.
Dangerous Kiss is the first book of the Dangerous Noise series, and once you start on this rock star journey, you won’t be able to stop yourself from reading them all. What I love about this book and the series as a whole, is that it’s not your stereotypical rock star and the brainless heroine. Crystal gives you something to fall in love with and fight for as you read each page, and her female heroine is strong, sexy and smart. Ethan and Violet will make your heart beat faster as you endure their chemistry and fight at a second chance.
Hooking Up will make you consider getting a tattoo if for no other reason than to go looking for the hot tattoo artist that you know is out there somewhere. As in Broken, this story brings to light another real life issue that makes you realize many people struggle with issues, but there really is someone out there that will love you despite the brokenness.
If you love a book with strong, sexy, alpha, a bit broken and totally panty melting males paired with a woman who is smart, funny, sexy and also a bit broken, you will love the characters that Crystal weaves together. Her books touch on real life issues and she presents them head on with compassion, love, and humor while giving you a story with enough heat to melt the pages. The best part is that two of the three books in this collection have other books in their series so you can continue to get your bad boy fix even after you finish these! Go ahead, start reading, but be forewarned, you will miss some sleep because you can’t put them down.
Broken Trent and Delilah meet when they are in college and struggle with their love. When Delilah disappears with no explanation as to why she left him Trent was heartbroken. Trent manage to continue with his studies but he never forgot about Delilah. Delilah had her reasons for leaving but she doesn't expect that Trent will ever forgive her regardless so she's not sure he'll listen to her. When she comes back for her sister's wedding she knows that she may run into Trent and it has her ridden with anxiety over what might happen. Will Trent and Delilah find their way back to each other? Will her secret keep them from moving forward?
Dirty Husband Jasmine's father is sick and she is struggling to come up with the money to pay for his medical expenses. Then someone from her past contacts her wanting to talk about something. Shepard has struggled with getting sober it takes being blackmailed into almost losing everything to get him straight. He contacts Jasmine because he needs her and he'll do whatever he needs to in order to get her to agree to help him. Shepard offers her a million dollars to marry him and act like they are a happy couple and she has to stay married to him for a year. When she hears about the cost for the new treatment for her father she knows that she has no choice but accept the deal with Shepard. Its not long before things from their past have things heating up between them again. Will Jasmine stay married to him after the year is up? Can Shepard see that Jasmine is what he needs in his life?
These are a few stories in this collection. Each will draw you in and make you enjoy the characters story. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
When You Were Mine is an excellent collection of books from Crystal Kaswell!
Broken This book was amazing! A little different than the rock stars she writes about, but Crystal really put her all into this one and it shows. Trent and Delilah are both broken in their own ways and it takes each other to help them to find themselves. I don't want to say too much to give it away, just read the book. It'll be well worth it.
Dangerous Kiss Loved Ethan and Violet. Their love is a second chance story that is fierce and so strong. They were supposed to stay together forever, but when Violet goes away to school, Ethan becomes a famous guitarist. Neither one of them has forgotten the other over the years and when they come back together, it's like no time has passed between them. With Violet helping the band, they have no choice but to spend time together again. Will they be able to make it this time?
Hooking Up Crystal has done it again. Haven't read a single story from her that wasn't perfect. Loved Walker and Iris. We saw Walker some in Tempting, the first story of the series. Iris a recovering addict and with Walker dealing with the same issues with his sister, he doesn't know how to deal with it when he finds out. So much heartbreak. Will he learn to forgive and forget?
This is a great value if you love romance as When You Were Mine is a collection of three full-length, second-chance romance books: Broken (Trent and Delilah met in college; she suffers from depression so this book may not an easy for some), Dangerous Kiss (Ethan, a rock star, and Violet, a college student from Dangerous Noise), and Hooking Up (Walker and Iris from the Inked Hearts series).
With Crystal’s books, the characters will remain a piece of you and you will go through all of the feels and emotions as more and more is revealed in each chapter. Each second-chance love story is filled with angst and heartbreak, love and forgiveness, and you will come to understand what happened to them in the past, what made them break up and how they reconnected, and empathize with them as they never stopped longing for one another. You will feel hopeful and route for each of these couples to have a future.
Crystal’s characters are all well developed, very real, and honest. Her heroes often have baggage and some may be known as bad boys, but really just want to be loved and accepted for who they are–tough on the outside and sweet on the inside. They hurt too and you just want to hug them, especially Trent. So many feels!
This collection also includes extended excerpts/previews of Dirty Husband and The Best Friend Bargain.
Broken - Second chance romance. Full length stand-alone second chance romance told in dual POV with HEA. This is a story about depression and suicide and first love. Trent and Delilah are both college students. Trent is struggling with understanding his brothers’ suicide when he meets Delilah. The story telling is great with lots of interaction with Trent's siblings and the family backstory. About how each of his now 4 remaining siblings and their parents are also dealing with the brother’s suicide. Delilah has her own demons and her story is also told in detail including her family and backstory. Trent and Delilah's story is laid out beautifully woven back and forth with chapters in the present and the past. I loved seeing them in the future in the epilogue! Once I started the book I could not put down and stayed up way too late to finish. Great book, I highly recommend! Hooking Up - Book two in series, but absolutely can be read as standalone. Full length told in dual POV with HEA. Walker is a tattoo artist who only does one-night stands. Iris is a former addict who is attending grad school. Most of this book is them actually spending time together and their relationship developing. I thought Walker took a little too long to come to his senses. I liked both Walker and Iris, I loved their story!
Three full length books in one. Love all three books.
Broken A beautiful soul consuming read. Your heart will break for Delilah and Trent and it will not be healed till the end. Favorite quote: Delilah to Trent ~ “I’m never going to be normal. I’m always going to be fraying at the edges.”
Dangerous Kiss Wow just wow Crystal Kaswell did it again. She wrote an amazing book. I was entranced from the first page to the last. I absolutely love the story between Violet and Ethan. This book made me laugh, cry and melt my heart. 10 out of 5 stars ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ When Violet and Ethan are first dating Violet supports Ethan and his life dreams fully, but when it comes to Ethan supporting Violet's dream he makes her choose between him and her life dreams. Two years later they run into each other and all their heartache is put aside and they try to make it work. Will they be able to over their past mistakes or will it all come crashing down on them again.
Hooking Up Love ❤️ this book. Walker and Iris’s story breaks your heart and puts it back together. A phenomenal read that keeps you wanting more.
I received this book for free to Give My True & Honest Review
Oh heck Crystal's greeting better & better with these Inked Hearts Men. Here we're ahead of where Ryan's trying to move o n with his life, but is not able to open up & trust anyone apart from his best friend Leighton, who's been there for him & like wise but heck, he can't see what he has right in front of him, even though he gets jealous of other men. Then out of the blue he gets an invite of his ex's marriage. So Ryan & Leighton pretend to be a couple & this here could be the start of the end of their friendship if things go wrong. Heck I could've shook Ryan add the egit not only be blinded of her feelings or what's worse his own true feelings. And it's during thus time we're hearing & seeing how they are & they've got a beautiful relationship. Well that is until the eve of the wedding & it goes from one extreme to the other. Crystal did a great job. Totally & Utterly Recommend the 3rd of the Inked Hearts Series
When You Were Mine is a romance collection featuring Broken, Dangerous Kiss, and Hooking Up by Crystal Kaswell. These three stories ate fun, sweet, sexy and gives emotions. Loved them!
BROKEN - An emotional second chance story. Heartbreak, reconciliation, depression, love, sexiness, sweetness... it all comes out in this. The characters are broken in their own ways but together they are perfection.
Dangerous Kiss - A second chance romance that will have you feeling emotions, your kindle steaming up and you rooting for these characters to figure it all out and heal together.
Hooking Up - A fun and sexy friends with benefits turns more romance that gives angst, humor, steam and sweetness.
I had already read 1 of them but was happy to re-read it.
The first story was by far my favorite. Delilah broke up with Trent without giving him a reason. He struggled for years to understand why, when they were so madly in love. But was it really a breakup... or something else? The fact that what Delilah struggles with is what so many people really struggle with in real life makes it seem so much more ...real. I loved how they went through the motions and worked through them.
The last story also is something that unfortunately many people struggle with.
I highly recommend this book. But if depression, suicide or addiction is a trigger for you then I suggest you skip it.
What a great collection to get introduced to Crystal Kaswell. If you are not familiar with any of her books I highly recommend you check this out. I have to say Broken is one of my all time favorites. I fell in love with Delilah and Trent's story. It will take you on an emotional roller coaster but is highly worth it.
Walker and Iris's story in Hooking Up is also extremely good. Walker has some family problems that he is trying to deal with and Iris has some issues of her own. Both stories touch on an emotional topic and will make you feel deeply for each of the characters.
I received an advanced copy of this manuscript and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Crystal Kaswell is one of my favorite one click authors and I enjoy everything I’ve read by her and this collection of stories was really good I’ve only read two of the books so far in this collection . Hooking up was a steamy hilarious romance story . I love all the men from INKED HEARTS and am a huge fan of Walker and Iris’s story . And Broken is a heartbreaking second chance romance that you have too read , nobody writes broken bad boys like Crystal does and you can’t go wrong with a book by her .
This is another great, emotional read from this author. Two characters meant to be together who werent quite ready the first time. When they see each other again there should be anger but there isn't. I loved the connection between the two characters. They are real, honest people and there was so much emotion.
Dangerous Kiss
This story was soooo good! I loved Ethan and Violet and couldn't put it down!
Another amazing bundle from this author. Dangerous kiss was my introduction to this author. Ethan is just an amazing boyfriend and you feel his pain about him and Violet not being together. You cannot help but root for their happy ending. The bundle also includes Hooking up and Broken and extended previews of the upcoming new books. A great addition to the Crystal's collection.
This book as 3 amazing books in one and 2 little looks at 2 more books and wow i would pay this price and more for one of these books never mind for all 3. I will definitely be recommending this boxset to my friends and if i could I'd give it more than 5 stars amazing.
I love how you can see though out the book the different years of the books and the different struggles each couple went through all in the same book and the preview for dirty husband and the best friend bargain
When You Were Mine is a collection of heart warming stories with panty melting men and strong heroine's. Each story has it own must read series. If you were wanting to sample Crystal Kaswel books this is the perfect start!
Every story in this book was full of angst and passion. I loved every heart wrenching moment! Strong characters with complicated lives that work out in the end. Wonderful author!
I loved all 3 books. I never read an entire box set, but I did this one. There are some triggers for suicide and depression that people should be aware of.
