Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Celebrating a Holy Catholic Lent and Easter provides individuals and families with a valuable resource for understanding and celebrating Lent and Easter as a Catholic.
Loved this book! Saunders has a clear, concise writing style and he touched on the history of many Lenten/Easter customs and provided some great examples of how we can celebrate them today. The images used in this book were also beautiful. I read the chapters on Holy Week in conjunction with their days (i.e. Holy Thursday chapter was read on Holy Thursday, Good Friday's chapter was read on Good Friday, etc.) and it was a beautiful addition to my Holy Week. I'm so glad I picked this up - I plan to utilize this book next year to add to our Lenten/Easter celebrations!
Good book. Beginning with the week before Lent, and continuing through Lent, Holy Week, and Easter, and concluding with sections on Ascension and Pentecost, it covers history and traditions of the liturgical seasons. It provides material to meditate on for the people/events being remembered and the relevance in our life. I recommend it for any time, but especially as part of a Lenten plan. I read a hardcover edition and appreciated the artwork that aids in meditation of the seasons.
A good introduction to Lent and Easter in the Catholic tradition; however, if you are already experienced in liturgical living, this is probably redundant.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fr. Saunders’ first book, “Celebrating a Merry Catholic Christmas”, and I enjoyed this one even more! He does such a wonderful job delving into the particulars of the Catholic faith, rich in tradition and history, while explaining things in an uncomplicated way. There are also beautiful illustrations of religious art throughout the book. Fr. Saunders also goes into detail about the sacraments and feast days, so I feel comfortable leaving this on my bookshelf year-round as a resource. Perhaps my favorite section was the last chapter, explaining Pentecost since it talks about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It was the perfect way to end the book (and the Easter season) as we are all called to be disciples of Christ and proclaim the gospel. The gifts of the Spirit equip us to do so, and it is important for us to pray for those daily.
