Falling for the Unexpected #1.5

Love & Other Complications

Rate this book
I’ve been in love with my older brother’s best friend since I was a pre-teen. He’s off-limits, forbidden, and sees me as nothing more than an annoying kid sister. For years, I’ve pined after him, wishing he’d notice me.

And then he does.

But now I’m not sure if his feelings are genuine or if the years of pent up emotion are making me see more into this than there really is, and I’m nothing more than a convenient—and very willing—rebound, distracting him from the pains of his past. I thought giving him my heart would be all I ever wanted, but now that he has it in his hands, I realize how easily he could break it…without even meaning to.

Because nothing hurts as bad as finding out you’re only second-best.

Short and sweet.

Liked the story. Even with not reading Zane and wrens book that had lots of Jax in it first. The book gave enough background info and synopsis to know the deal and what went down. Loved how easy Jax and Sophias relationship was. Knowing each other their whole lives definitely helped with that. They essentially skipped the beginning of dating. The only thing I found annoying was how slightly immature she came across as. Especially with talking to someone who was like family and you’ve known your whole life. To just break up and drop them from your life without talking or communicating the issues or feelings seemed immature. He was at a loss for what was wrong when she did that. And yes I think he should have fought harder but he was trying and she was pushing him away at every turn.

I couldn't put the book down!!! This is first book I read by Terayln Mitchell and it did not disappoint! I absolutely love the fun little banter between Sophia and Jax in the beginning of the book. I could easily relate to how some of the characters felt/went through. I would absolutely recommend this book and Terayln's other work to all romance lovers.

Great Story!

So I was on Amazon looking up a book and this book was in that "You May Also Like" list below it. I have never heard of this author but I'm so glad I chose THIS book instead!😁 This was a great story! Sophia and Jax were so cute, I loved them together. Jax didn't know the one he needed was right in front of him this whole time, but when he got the revelation, he was all in! I have to hand it to Sophia just rolling with the sudden change in Jax. I liked that she gave him time to catch up to where her feelings had always been. Lack of communication and making assumptions definitely caused some blows to their relationship, but I'm glad they got it together in the end. And that epilogue was too cute! I'm definitely a fan of Ms. Mitchell now, so I can't wait to read Rae's story next!

I want to thank teralyn mitchell for sending me this copy of love and other complications to review .
Sophia has been yearning for a chance to be with Jax her brothers best friend for as long as she can remember .
But can Jax ever see her as anything more than a friend ?
When he over hears a conversation between Sophia and wren he starts to
See her in a new light when had she become so womanly and gorgeous ?

But what good can come of the two keeping secrets from big brother ? Read to find out.. Leave a 💓 or 💔 to show how you think Zane will react when he finds out what his little sis has been up to .... 4/5 ⭐

This is the first time I’m reading anything by Teralyn Mitchell. The title of this book piqued my interest because I wanted to find out what the other complications to love were in this story.

So let’s dive into the storyline. Sophia has always wanted to be noticed by Jax, her big brother’s (Zane) best friend for as long as she can remember. But Jax was off limits and Zane wouldn’t have him mess around with his little sister. Anyway, both Jax and Zane were chasing Wren (Sophia’s friend) until Wren decided to pick Zane and marry him. Now in the midst of planning the wedding, Sophia confesses her feelings about Jax to Wren. As luck would have it, Jax overhears the conversation and then decides to pursue Sophia.

Sophia is enjoying this new found attention but in the back of her mind she kept wondering whether Jax was with her to get over Wren. Yes, this was complicated. But surprisingly, Jax who has never had a serious relationship before was now all into Sophia until she ended things abruptly with him after Zane and Wren got married. Jax was left having to face Zane who wasn’t pleased his best friend hid the relationship from him.

Overall, it was a quick and fun read that left me wanting more. I liked the author’s style of writing capturing the essence of twenty-something and thirty-something relationships. Although, I had to keep track of many characters and some of the information was repetitive, she weaved a good story about love and the importance of communication between lovers. In the end, love prevailed and Sophia got her man.

Some of my favorite lines:

“I thought this was just a fling, Jax,” Sophia said in a quiet voice. “I thought you needed a distraction. Your interest and attraction seemed to come out of nowhere, and the timing—a month before Wren and Zane’s wedding—made me question your intentions. I had no reason to believe what we had would be any different. And then your words the night before the wedding, confirmed that I’d been right all along.”

I wanted more!

PROS: POC Author
Jax’s tenderness towards Sophia
Childhood friends to lovers.
Small business owner goals. Made me want to open my own and thrive as well as Jax. Or was it Sophia!?
CONS: No transition between the POVs.
If you didn’t pay attention to the chapter headers, you could not tell who’s talking ATM. So if you were listening via audible, or my case Alexa, you literally don’t know who’s talking until down the line you get a small indication of whom. Jax and Sophia’s only personalities were the friends. Literally nothing else. The friends were so talked about, they were more main characters than the actual main characters. Pushy friends who do not respect boundaries and feel entitled in their lives.
I DO NOT LIKE REN.
**There was so much potential to make Jax’s POV strong because of the previous history between his best friend and Ren. Give him more depth . overall the story had room to develop had it been a full length novel.
PS: I feel bad that I accept mediocre work from white authors as what they are and move on, but I’m so hard on POC Authors. I wonder why that is and how badly have we been conditioned to do so. JUST A THOUGHT!

Cliche’

It was kind of predictable. I knew that Sophia was not going to open up and share her feelings with Jax, just the same way I knew that Jax was not going to effectively communicate his feelings. Then all of a sudden they get together and we’re supposed to believe that all communication problems are solved. Really? I think not! Other than that it was a good book, the love scenes were hit 🔥.

I lost sleep over this book, in the most delicious way.

Sophia & Jax immediately suck you into their story and there is NO slow burn. Hot & Heavy is the only way I know how to describe this book and you will not hear me complaining. This is a friends to lovers romance that has a HEA.

Sophia is one of my Top 10 heroines of the year. She's spunky, fiesty, and knows who/what she wants in her life. Jax doesn't stand a chance when he overhears Sophia's confession and his world is turned upside down. This book doesn't have an exaggerated plot and has characters that are completely relatable. Jax is a typical male who can be a dumbass when it comes to women and communication.

This book made me feel like I was rooting for friends and not characters; it was everything you'd expect and more.

Love this sweet, yet complicated story between friends, it was beautiful, sweet, and romantic the author did a great job building their relationship and the characters even though we see them in her previous book, in this one we have the chance to know them fully and didn't disappoint, I for sure recommend this one.

Good read

Interesting. What an interesting ride when a man realizes what he wants and decides to put his all into attaining that... Loved the familial vibes as well.

2.5- It felt like a cup of tea I didn’t like but somehow enjoyed drinking…I don’t think I am making sense. It felt weird to me but I liked the ending.

How Sway?

I read this book angry. Her brother could date her best friend but she couldn't date his. I was annoyed.
