Book Seven: The Ajax Protocol

The Project is a Black Ops intelligence unit reporting only to the President of the United States. When an assassination attempt takes the President out of commission, the Project is caught up in a conspiracy that threatens to spark a world war and runs a lot deeper than just trying to kill the leader of the free world.

Led by Director Elizabeth Harker, the Project team discovers a cold-hearted plot to turn America into a totalitarian police state. Betrayed by powerful enemies at home and forced to rely on doubtful allies abroad, Harker and her team are driven underground. With time running out, they must stop the conspirators before they destroy everything America stands for. At the same time team leader Nick Carter and his lover, Selena Connor, struggle to commit to each other in a covert world where love and compassion are in short supply and enemies lie in wait at every turn.

I like Barbados rum, old, fast motorcycles, playing guitar and books by authors like Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Alex Berenson, Craig Johnson and Lee Child. I write action/adventure thrillers. WHITE JADE is the first in a series featuring the PROJECT, a small, elite counter-terrorism unit. There are currently 23 books in the series.

4.5 Stars. The books in this delightful little series just seem to get better and better. If you are interested in covert operations this little known series is just the series you need to take on board. They are quite quick reads but I do enjoy the group of characters that are pulled together, along with the intrigue within the American Government, in many ways the plot within this one was the biggest one that Alex Lukeman has taken on so far. In short this could have led to a new World Order. If you haven't discovered this series yet I would strongly encourage you to give them a try if you are interested in this style of books. I can't wait to continue my journey in Project land.

This was the first I've read from this series; I will definitely go back and read the others. I really liked it! The ending left a lot of things hanging, so I'm sure I'll read #8 too.

Well written and thoroughly enjoyable, this book sees yet more double dealing and intrigue with inter US government spying, collaboration and ego world domination plans. More so than 3 Bonds put together. But the characterisation and action are all good. Love it

Alex Lukeman has come up with another very difficult to put down novel regarding his Project Group, notably Elizabeth Harker, Nick Carter and Selena Connor. The jacket description is pretty accurate – the only quibble I would have is that the plot is just a shade implausible. Having said that I do understand how certain people have managed to take over their country’s way of governance, but deem this to be highly unlikely in the USA because of its constitution and the checks and balances that are in place – as their latest President is now finding out!

It does, however, make for a very readable book, that I whisked through in a very short space of time. Unfortunately because of computer problems, I have not been able to write a review until now.

Carter and Connor are involved in a maelstrom of events, never really sure who they can trust and whether their confidence in each other is at times misplaced. The development of their characters and the increased understanding of their backgrounds do lead to making them much more human than some of their actions might appear to be, and certainly add to the complexity of the plot line.

Highly recommended if you like novels full of action with heroes who come across as being worthy of your interest.

Loved the Greek mythology references in this book. The actual Ajax mythology is put out in the end of the book and I think that is great because using Ajax without telling people what actually happened to him, would be wrong in my eyes.
Stephanie is really brought out to the fore-front in this book, such as the way she looks and the jewelry she wears etcetera. In my opinion, this should have been done before the seventh book. I am sure that Alex Lukeman has his reasons.

This is the fourth book on the Project Series. And have enjoyed all of them,
They are well written, engrossing and great Characters, one can identify with.

I hadn't realized this was a series, so missed a few of the first set. I've already bought those I missed, and am looking forward to reading those.
While the Characters are the same, the plots stand alone.
These are Political Action thrillers and obviously well researched. A genre I really enjoy.
There are times, one feels they are torn from todays headlines, even knowing it's fiction.
Definitely a page turner, and I'm looking forward to reading those in the series I missed.
You won't be disappointed, if you choose to read this series.

I find majority of his books have a plausibility factor even though it's obviously
Fiction. He weaves enough history, science and facts in so that the story seems could have legs. However, this book I found no such thing and seemed kept nd of redundant to his las couple books. Evil rich men designing weapons to get control of he world and throw in a little Russia. Feel like maybe author fulfilling his contract of turning a book a year in. Hope next book more like his early books.

AJAX IS TROUBLE FOR ALL IT IS.....

Hello, this story was very good and quite entertaining to read. I didn't like one of my favorite in and off characters getting killed, but that's the way the ink rolls. Thanks.

I enjoy these type of reads, but after several years, most are just good reads for the plots and actions are similar . I will still read this author of time permits.

When a riot breaks out in a Russian town and escalates in a matter of minutes, not only does the Russian government take notice but it peaks the interest of Elizabeth Harker, Director of a small, elite American task force called The Project. Tasked by the President of the United States and answering only to him, The Project members fly under the radar, known to very few, they take on the missions that can’t be undertaken by any of the other government agencies.

Director Harker’s team is led by ex-Marine Nick Carter, a big man whose talents are many, he also inherited a hint of his grandmother’s physic ability by way of an itchy ear. The team consists of four other members, each as good as the next in what they do. Ex-Navy Seal Lamont Cameron, known as “Shadow” by his old team mates, currently healing from a lung injury he sustained on their last mission he is as at home in the water as a fish. Navajo native Ronnie Pete has a penchant for Hawaiian shirts and practices the ways of his ancestors. The third member of the field team is Nick’s lover, Selena Connor, a specialist in ancient cultures; she is as lethal as she is beautiful. The last member of the team is Director Harker’s Deputy, Stephanie Willitis, a computer guru with no match there isn’t anything she can’t get out one.

Not only will the Project team have to figure out what is going on in Russia, they will have to do it while battling an unknown enemy out to take them down. Will they be up for the task or will this be the one enemy they cannot defeat?

Mr. Lukeman once again takes us into his world of intrigue and covert operations with his seventh book in The Project Series. He takes us on an action packed, heart stopping, world travelling ride with a story telling style that is so realistic you will swear you can feel the bullets whizzing past your ears and feel the adrenaline of the battle.

Nick and the gang are all present and accounted for; some a little more beat up than others, all up for whatever task gets thrown their way. They are joined once again by an old friend/enemy from Russia Lt. Colonel Arkady Korov, a member of Spetsnaz, Russia’s elite Special Forces and Director Harker will walk the tightrope with Arkady’s boss, General Alexei Vystosky. Nick and Selena’s relationship will take an important turn and Selena will discover something that will test her beliefs. A different side of some of the team members is revealed and they are tested beyond what they thought themselves capable of.

As with all the books in this series, Mr. Lukeman not only gives us an action packed thrilling story, but a travel guide as well. We spend a little time in Russia, Alaska, London, the Caribbean and the sub-terrain world beneath the Denver airport. There are just enough questions answered and more posed so that we are left wanting more. While it’s not necessary to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one, I dare you to read this one and not immediately go get them all.

This is the 7th Book in the Project series, and Alex dazzles us again with all the fancy acronyms the United States Government loves to use. The PROJECT is The PResidential Official Joint Exercise for Counter Terrorism, SATWEP is the Satellite Weapons Program, DARPA the Defense Agcency Research Projects Agency. See what I mean???

Our team is questioning what has happened to a town in Novosibirsk, Russia. The small area had their people struck by rage, killing, looting with such a madness that could not be explained. Elizabeth Harker calls in part of the team, still one man down from their last mission with Lamont still in the hospital. Nick Carter, Selena Connor, Ronnie Peete join Elizabeth Harker the Head of the Project and Stephanie Willits, assistant to Director Harker, she is our girl with major computer hacking skills. And so our story begins.

America’s President Rice is going on stage to make a speech before the American people. As he approaches the podium he grabs his chest and falls, He is rushed to Bethesda Medical Center with an apparent heart attack.

Elizabeth calls their Russian counterpart of the PROJECT called ZASLON whose leader is Alexei Vysotsky. We have joined forces with them before to fight the bad guys, with Vysotsky lending us Arcady Korov one of his best agents and now who our team considers a friend. The phone meeting brings the two together again to share information.

Harker sends our team out again. Stephanie's work leads the team to a remote part of Alaska on the trail of what happened in Novosibirsk. America is being run by our idiot VP who is not a fan of The Project Team and that might alter our plans somewhat. We have slowly gotten information thru Stephanie’s hacking, learning that The Ajax Protocol is a detailed plan of rich and powerful men who have worked long and hard to take over the United States government.

Alex Lukeman writes action adventure the likes of which should be in movies. I can just see me squeezing my box of layered buttered popcorn all over myself as the team rushes into a hot spot with their Glocks and hopefully their body armor (sometimes that isn’t always there) and whips through the enemy. This isn’t without losses to our side, but hopefully the enemy can be thwarted till the next time.

Elizabeth Harker is one smart, tough woman. President Rice is lucky to have her and our team so we can all sleep at night. I like what Alex is doing to move the story forward with relationships and growth of the people he writes. Nick is in therapy, Selena was coming to grips with who she is and Steph is moving forward as well, and the possibilities might be there for Harker as well.

Alex I salute you!!! Keep writing more and someday I will see you at the movies!!!

Alex Lukeman's "The Ajax Protocol" is the seventh in his "The Project" action series, and it may be the best of the Project books so far. Although the book can stand alone, I have read all seven in order (which I recommend) in order for one see the characters' development as well as the teams'. I originally purchased the first book “White Jade,” a fast-paced thriller, on a special deal from Amazon for my Kindle. Since that first book, I have slowly added more and more of Lukeman’s Project books to my Kindle. The series centers on a covert intelligence unit called the PROJECT, which answers directly to the President.

"The Ajax Protocol" opens with an unexplainable mass riot in Russia in which many are killed. This event peaks the interest of Elizabeth Harker, Director of The Project. What they slowly discover is that a "far-right winged" group plans to overthrow the government of the United States from within. After President Rice is poisoned, the group's plan moves into full motion and Harker and the rest of the Project are literally driven underground. Now, the pages of the novel turn faster and faster!

I have immensely enjoyed this series. Especially, I like Lukeman's fast moving plots, but even more so, I "like" the characters and care about them. This is what makes “The Ajax Protocol” better than the run-of-the-mill high-concept thrillers: the well-drawn and engaging characters – especially Nick Carter and Selena Connor. As well, Lukeman's writing does not disappoint, and I am looking forward to continue reading this series. I already have the next two in the series, so "yes," I strongly do recommend this series to you. So, perhaps it is time for you to order one too?

The seventh in this series, this volume delivers our team at The Project a challenge that is frightening in it implications for possible occurrence: a group of far-right fascists plan to overthrow the government of the United States from within by using technology to create disasters and mass rioting, leading to chaos and the need for military intervention and martial law. The leader is a megalomaniac general powerful at the Pentagon, and is abetted on the political front by a smooth talking Senate Majority leader who does everything possible to constantly blame the sitting President for all the world's problems, much more fixated on his own political power and ascendancy than the needs or rights of the American populace. They have used rightwing media to win over a vocal minority following who are angry at the way America has changed in the 21st century.

Oh that could never happen, right?

This one could have used a bit more attention in copy editing--there are a few glaring blunders--and the ending is not as dramatically exciting as usually occurs in Lukeman's books in this series. It does, however, set up some international tensions and major character relationship changes that will certainly be explored in subsequent books in this series.

Alex Lukeman does it again! This time, the Project team must save the US (and the world) from a megalomaniacal general, his wacko sidekick Senator, and a toady Vice President. The general decides that President Rice is leading the nation in the wrong direction and hatches a plot to use satellite weapons to agitate populations in order to justify the imposition of martial law. Our beloved Project team goes to Alaska, London, a Caribbean island, Cuba and Denver as they work together to unravel the plot and thwart the bad guys. All the Project team members play a significant part in the story, along with a couple of old friends. Director Elizabeth Harker's character is developed more thoroughly as are Nick and Selena's personal lives. Buy this one for a thrilling and satisfying roller coaster ride with exciting twists and turns.

Why only four stars rather than five? Some sections of the story were more developed than others. I would have liked to know more about what was going on with President Rice and more details and action in the London-based segment. On the other hand, the Alaskan and Cuban segments were very suspenseful and exciting!

The Black Ops people in The Project, directed by Elizabeth Harker with aid from her right hand computer hacking woman, Stephanie, saves the world again with the help of her team headed by Nick Carter this time from evil General Westlake--too far hinky to realize he's slipped over the wall big time. Westlake's managed to isolate a new terrifying weapon with which he expects to dominate the world; turning the US to putty in his hands and away from our beloved President Rice. Our hero Nick and his lover Selena Connor seem to be able to dish out as much as they're given and as team leader manages to survive to fight another day. I like The Project series because I get to be a fly on the wall--learn about the weapons, the intelligence, and the individuals--their strengths and weaknesses. I've received these books free from BookBub download and don't miss a chance to read another--I have one left and looking forward to it. These books MOVE--it's difficult to find a good place to shut out the light for the night. Be prepared for a ride!

The Ajax Protocol concerns the Presidential Official Joint Exercise in Counter Terrorism’s (PROJECT) efforts to stop a political conspiracy with dire global implications.

New to the Project novels, I lacked knowledge of the characters’ six earlier books’ worth of black ops experiences and personal histories. Luckily, author Alex Lukeman provides sufficient backstory to head off newbies’ potential confusion. He also demands much suspension of disbelief.

For example, the Project needs to go on the run from super-powerful bad guys. Imagine the team’s luck to learn ?

Another laughable scene has a captured and bound Project agent .

Lukeman spins taut, thrilling adventures in The Ajax Protocol, and the book left me wanting to read the whole series. Alas, none of my available libraries carry his works.

I believe that The Ajax Protocol may be the best of the Project books so far. The basic plot of the story is that there is a group of military, politicians and money men that have devised and now implementing a devious plot to create a war that will result in total panic for the U.S. They can then step in a create Marshal Law .... never to lifted and control everyone. The loss of life and personal freedom for the citizens of the US is of absolutely no concern for the power hungry group.

There is an assassination attempt on President Rice thus putting their man, the Vice President, in charge. Using this opportunity, they go after the Project, the brain child of the President, driving them underground. In reality, they are no match for The Project.

The most frightening aspect of the Ajax Protocol is that is so feasible. It could be happening now and we would never know until it was too late.

Nick and the team are back but they have been forced into hiding after a assassination attempt on the PONTUS puts him out of commission and the Vice President tries to shut down the Project not knowing he is but a pawn in a bigger conspiracy to destroy everything America stands for.

I loved this book just as much as I loved the six books before it. They have all been action packed and exciting from start to finish. I have kept with the audible version of the series since narrator Jack de Golia is so good at all the characters and keeping the story so exciting, he keeps me on the edge of my seat just wondering what will happen to next to the team, sometimes I hate when I have to turn it off. Mr. de Golia has given these characters and stories their life and a real pulse, I have enjoyed it so much I will stick with the audios.

But whichever format you choose I think you will enjoy the Project series.

Great action

Once in a while I find a series I know will become a favorite. Alex Lukeman writes well, provides an exciting read, and never failed to bring his characters to life in my mind. You can be sure this is a series I will now begin at Book One, since I didn't discover it until Book Seven. Lukeman's characters, a super-secret group of talented operatives, answerable to the President, must take on a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur. With the President incapacitated, they can rely on no one but themselves to prevent world-wide social and economic collapse... Or worse.

I really enjoyed this book. It has everything I like, especially secret government conspiracies and espionage. The plot was laid out very nicely and there were a lot of twists and turns. I like the make-up of the main character, Nick Carter. Tough guy, doesn't always win the battle, but will win the war.

I highly recommend reading this book. I really enjoy book series and even though this is #7 in the series, there weren't references to happenings in the previous books that made me question what happened, so I didn't feel "left out of an inside joke.".

I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

Rogue

The Project team is a little slim in this book. President Rice is felled by an apparent heart attack and is in critical care. A town in Siberia has gone crazy and it's inhabitants turned on and attacked each other. Though these are seemingly unrelated events, clues lead the team to suspect a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels of the U.S. government and business. The team ends up in the crosshairs and on the run for their lives as the forces behind the conspiracy find an ally in the office of VP Edmonds, the acting President, who wants to dismantle the Project. But they find they still have a few unlikely allies of their own, a few they can trust.

Quick read--THE AJAX PROTOCOL ([[ASIN:B00IOQQZQU The Ajax Protocol (The Project)]]) by Alex Lukeman. This is your typical story about a "black ops" team, known only to the President, (and 70% of the people in Washington, DC). A major problem happens, somewhere, they extrapolate that problem to a world crisis, and proceed to save the world. Throw in some help from the Russians, a 'born again' Marine, and you have a recipe for success. All in all, it is not a bad read, especially if you have time to spare in the doctor's waiting room.
