Catamount Unleashed

Rate this book
Near an isolated hunting and fishing lodge not far below the Canadian border, a malevolent, ghostlike cat goes on a rampage. First, a herd of prized cattle is disemboweled, but not long afterward, the mountain lion develops a taste for human flesh. Authorities rush to the scene but agents from a mysterious branch of the federal government take control of the investigation and immediately begin a cover up. For Ike Roberts and Rob Schurman, the owners and guides of Stillwater Lodge, the scenario is all-too-familiar. Only a few years back, a similarly bloodthirsty catamount terrorized the area. Folks from Washington meticulously swept everything under the rug, spread false information and ruthlessly attacked the reputations of witnesses to the actual events to destroy their credibility. It was difficult to discern their motivations, but as life slowly returned to normal, most local folk simply seemed willing to put it behind them. A bush pilot who has flown in from Alaska hunts down the catamount but this triggers a roundup by the government agents. They now seem determined to gather all the witnesses together and dispose of them as a group. Meanwhile, yet another big cat is on the prowl (perhaps unleashed by an old Abenaki curse). When all seems hopeless, help arrives from an unexpected source.
