All my life I wanted to attend a prestigious school for paranormal students. When I was accepted into the Academy of Modern Magic, well… …it isn't my first choice.
When I first encounter a sexy shifter in the corridors, and his equally hot brother, things start to look up. Add to that a smoking dragon shifter and a magical best friend and maybe this isn't so bad after all.
That is until dark forces started to follow me, bent on my capture or destruction. My only choice is to fight back, even if it gets us all killed.
Get it now.
**Warning this a reverse harem with adult content and language.**
So this was new, but as it played out in the story, it wasn't a very effective form of magic. The story concept was fine but everything afrer the phoenix was rushed. It felt like the half way point of the story but it was close to 80% over by then. One second Peyton's commenting on being there a month and soon after the school year is over. And where were the exams she mentioned? Personally, it feels like the author shortcut to the ending once the phoenix appeared. But even before, there were plenty of places that needed more detail. It's all there, but for me it needs more fleshing out.
This story could have been so good. I loved the idea of tech and magic mixing, but there were so many things where the world building went wrong. Then the conversations seem to be ridiculous 75% of the time, half of it could be edited out. There's also the secy times that come out left field OR seem so nonchalant even though it's supposed to be thrilling. The big secret and bad guys? How? Why? I mean, the leaps and bounds in the plot are so at odds. I didn't get why the FMC even thought to broach or say anything about stuff to those that she did. Felt like it was missing relevancy. *shrug*
This book has so many conflicting things. There is a super evil, super secret organization kidnapping people and doing nefarious things to them. And the organization has their sites set on the FMC. The council aka the good guys don't really do anything to intervene. The FMC bumbles her way through multiple attempts. When you find out more about the evil organization later in the series it makes even less sense about how ineffective the organization has been in kidnapping the FMC.
The timing/pacing is weird for the whole series. It seems like only a couple of weeks go by in terms of events that happen in the book and yet the book ends with them finishing up the school year or close to finishing up the school year. The author refers back to previous events that happened at the start of school as if it just happened and then basically goes well the book is done so the school year is also over. The long period of time is not conveyed at all. I think if the longer period of time was conveyed the relationships would be more believable. Because there is professing of serious deep soul type of love pretty soon after meeting some of the love interests.
All in all the plot and characters are shaky and uninspired at best. But it killed a couple of hours.
This was not good in almost any fashion. The idea had promise, but fell waaaaaayyy short. * The story was rushed. A lot. Random “a month later” were thrown in but the development between characters didn’t reflect that. * superficial bonds and interactions. Even the dates the MCs went on didn’t involve any real interactions. * Random bad guy group that kinda appeared out of nowhere.
Could use with some editing too. The grammar and spelling issues were abundant. Overused word usage too. I don’t recommend this series to anyone unless they have a high tolerance for shit reads.
Unique concept to use magic and technology and have an academy setting. Under that storyline is also the one where a secret organization is creating hybrids that can both shift and do magic. Peyton has to figure out who she can trust. It seems most are keeping a secret. There are the twins who seem to have a bit of rivalry between them and the flirty one who seems to shyer then he projects. The shy one likes to be adventurous though. There is the hot combat instructor and her nemesis. Her roommate seems to have a crush on her as well. Big question is where does her mom fit in with the organization. Some steamy scenes. Hope for more in the next book as well as some answers on what is going on. Interesting book overall.
This book captivated me from the beginning. Peyton has always been held to high expectations from her mother. She gets into supernatural college but not the one she wanted. Once she gets there things start changing when she meets 3 different guys. Things are happening to her and she doesn’t know who to trust. Maggie Alabaster did a great job in creating this world and introducing us to it. Magic is mainly done through the use of technology. I want to know more about who is after Peyton but also more about the world she lives in.
The storyline is different yet the same. You have a witch going to college she finds out she is being stalked and wanted to be captured. The you have your MC love interests who are there to help keep her safe. There a few typos that made the flow of the book stop. I like that the characteristics of the MC is of a strong badass women. I love Zane and Dyson. Nash is hot. But overall I just found it ok. Like it didn’t really leave me wanting more....
I really enjoyed this book, it’s well written with such detail you just fall into the academy world. Love how they are really being introduced into the magical world so it’s all reasonably new. It’s full of sexual tension and steamy scenes. The build up of the will they / won’t they was great. The action was well written, the fine detail of the shifters abilities and of the fight was fascinating. Overall a fantastic book, will definitely read more from this series
I feel like this story is a bit fast paced. I didn't even realize that she had already been through a whole year at the school, at least that what I got from the ending. It doesn't really have a lot of character building or relationship building for that matter either. However I am intrigued so I will be moving in to the next book.
I gotta stop thinking because a book looks like UF it's UF. This was a rh which I enjoy but the fmc talks about her f buddy on the first page and it goes down from there, I really miss plot driven slow building UF with world and character development that doesn't revolve around what's in the characters pants.
It started off fine then just started to bore me half way through and I just ended up skimming the last 30%. Minor spelling issues. Plot was confusing. Wasn’t sure what this book wanted to tell me. I don’t recommend this book.
How wildly entertaining and packed full of sexual innuendo, This book had me hooked from the get go, I cant wait to see what happens next or how much more sexual innuendo there will be lol
This book starts a bit slowly, enticing you into the story. But once you get there, there’s magic, hot guys, sex, and excitement, everything you could want in a book. Can’t wait to see what Peyton stumbles into next it book two.
I chose this book for the interesting title. I kept reading because the plot and characters drew me in. Magic has become a strong draw in books today. This author does it with great skill.
Peyton had no clue the world she was actually born in to. She knew of magic because of her mother but the dangers that she was getting into. The author did a great job at the building up of characters. And the chemistry between them…..hawt! Excited to read more
Had loads of potential, and initially I was intrigued. However, it was just a bunch of horny teenagers, being horny, thinking about sex, talking about sex…. I was missing some story with all the teenage sex angst. DNF
I really do enjoy a good academy/university style book, especially when it's RH and paranormal, and this didn't disappoint. There was one part of the story line that I just couldn't get behind(just because of personal preferences), but I'll have to see where it goes in the next book. Well worth the read!
Digital Magic, the first book of the Academy of Modern Magic series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). The best part of this story may be the uniqueness of the world-building--the way magic works so differently than other books I've read in this genre. Peyton was a great fmc and I loved the twist and turns in the plot. Can't wait to get to the next installment.
