Real Men of Othercross #1

Vampire Seduction

Rate this book
He’s accused of a crime he didn’t commit and she’s determined to get him off… in more ways than one.

The vamp life sure as hell ain’t the glam life. Just ask Alena Falkov. One day she’ll be a full-fledged attorney, but for now, she’s stuck working her fangs off at a thankless job while she attends Othercross University’s esteemed law school.

Of course she might not have the job for long if she can’t be on time, but when a vampire catches the scent of her Beloved—her one true soul mate—in the hallways of the courthouse, no one could blame her for tracking him down. Now if only he wasn't the defendant... and by all accounts, guilty. Or is he?

An interesting spin on vampire "mates"

As is the case with novellas, I wish there was more of Alena and Luca than what we got as I enjoyed their short and beloved story! There is definitely some instalove happening as the entire story takes place in just a few hours, but I really enjoyed this different spin on fated mates. I do see myself continuing this series and reading other novels by these authors.

3 stars for this quick, short book... that I wish was longer

This book took me less than an hour to read and I enjoyed it. I, of course, wish it was longer.

Alena is a vampire that is going to law school and works at a law firm. She reads about a case and figures out that the defendant will not be winning based on who is defending him. So she goes into the courtroom where he’s at and is immediately assaulted by the smell of her true mate. She looks around the room to figure out who it is but doesn’t recognize where it’s coming from until she looks at the defendant and is mesmerized. Luca, also a vampire that is a lot older than Lena, is on trial for a crime that he didn't commit, but there are many witnesses that supposedly saw him commit the crime. As soon as Alena enters the room, the visceral connection of his true mate overwhelms him. What’s the problem? They're from rival families, which means that they should not be together.

Because they just met, they have not consummated their mateship. In order for her to defend him, they need to prove their connection (since she’s not a lawyer). This forces them to do it in an empty room at the courthouse and it was 🥵🔥. There’s only one smexy scene in the whole book, but it was a good one. Once they have physically consummated their connection, it’s on. Since they are true mates, the chemistry is off the chain 💦. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a short book, which means that many of the details could’ve developed more. I have questions about a lot of things when he came to this world, so more world-building would’ve been nice. But with what I read, I got invested. The ending felt more like an HFN versus a HEA. I’m interested in continuing the series and reading more from these authors.

I’ve been calling books this short novellitas because, imo, they’re even shorter than the usual novella. Anyway, this was my first story by these two authors and I really liked it! Though it was super short and I would’ve wanted more closure, it was still a super fun, insta-love PNR novellita.

Three and a half
This was incredibly short but nevertheless packed a whole lot in. Alena is a relatively young Vampire studying Law whilst working for the paranormal judiciary system. She realises that an incredibly inept lawyer is about to defend a client and sets out to help but what she discovers in the courtroom is corruption and most amazing of all her fated beloved '!
I quite liked this but seriously wish it had been longer. Alena was a cunning and clever character who certainly knew her own mind. Luca the accused is a powerful, sexy Italian Vampire who was written as a little old fashioned but he clearly was ready to adore the female that fate had given him . There's a fun element here too because this couple come from rival clans so expect a lot of posturing oh and I particularly enjoyed what the Werewolf did but to find out more you really need to read this story.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I selected Vampire Seduction thinking it was book one of a series. It appears it is more of a "prequel" than a full size book. Vampire Seduction is a quick listen introducing me to the Real Men of Othercross series. After looking at the author's websites, I think there are books ahead of this introducing this world. Vampire Seduction did very little to explain the world or even really give you enough of the characters to be able to connect with them.

My rating of this book could possibly be because I am missing some back story. I really can't think of any other reason that this book would be so lacking in information. It definitely had potential, and I think I would have enjoyed a fully fleshed out book. If someone knows about books I'm missing that would help me with this world, please leave a comment to steer me in the right direction. This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Celia Kyle always brings new twists and turns when she starts a new series and (Real Men of Othercross #1 series is no different. I cannot wait to dive into more characters. I just hope we get to know the others better in the books to come.

This book has all the snark, funny lines you would expect it to. It always has a hint of mystery and keeps us guessing throughout the story. It will also pull you into the other character's worlds and have you wanting more of them by the time the book ended.

This book takes place in the courthouse from start to finish. It does not give us enough time to really get to know Alena Falkov or Luca Ravenna. I loved them both and needed more from them.

Deep down I feel like there was so much more these two wanted to share with us. The book was short and just about the time you would start to get attached to them it was over.

Alena is working at her job when she scents her mate - the one person who can complete her for the rest of her undead life. But when she finds him in the courthouse, she finds him being accused of murder, and represented by someone she knows is useless. Can she get to the truth and have Kuca freed? As soon as he scents her, Luca knows what she is to him - but it seems that he will have to wait out his sentence before he can claim her. Alena isnt standing for that once she realises that he is innocent and being set up by a member of her clan. Kelly is a witch - and she can help - but at what price? I loved it and am looking forward to more of this series!

I loved this story. It was my first book by Celia Kyle & Marina Maddix. The story was unique and so intriguing. It pulls you in and doesn’t let go. I loved the mix of humor and drama throughout the story. Yes, it is a quick read but it is extremely well written. The characters are beautifully developed and their personalities are felt throughout the story. It is most definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint.

I’ve been looking for a quick paranormal romance and I’m glad I chose to give this one a try. The story felt fresh, well paced and had me excited for the outcome of it all. Wish the downloaded “bonus scene” had been included in the book as after I read it, it felt like it served more as a proper ending having tied up most of what was left unanswered, but that’s just my opinion. Regardless, I did enjoy the read and look forward to more in this series and from these authors.

Really entertaining new series by two of my favourite authors. Vampires what is not to love. Deep, Dark and Seductive is what Luca Ravenna is and he has just met his beloved in a courtroom full of paranormals some of whom would like nothing better than to lock him away for the next 100 years. Alena Falkov was just trying to ensure her colleague did not stuff up his case which by rights he should not have had when the mate bond sealed into place. Alena decided she had not waited this long to have him imprisoned for however long the court deemed suitable without a fair trail. She would do her best even though the odds were stacked against her. Luckily she is owed a big favour from a very talented witch and one truth spell should work wonders to ensure his acquittal. In hind site it may have been better to have only focused on the accusers not on the judges. Things are about to heat up in this courtroom with unexpected consequences. Thank you to Celia Kyle and Marina Maddix for the thoroughly enjoyable review copy. Loved this book so much I also purchased a copy for my library. Going off to read the next book. Can't wait.

Paranormal Fun!

This was more of a short story, but it was a bunch of fun! A vampire law student tries to save an unsuspecting defendant from from a bad lawyer, and ends up finding her immortal mate. This world has vampires, shifters, and witches, and the ensuing antics between them all are entertaining, as is watching the H&h come together for their HEA!

A fast, fun read!

Celia Kyle never disappoints me. This book is perfect to read before bedtime, with a quick pace, a nicely developed plot and characters that come alive on the page even though they are technically dead.

Alena is a vampire law student and works assisting lawyers in her clan. When she finds out their worst lawyer is assigned to a serious case, she rushes over to help their client. She is shocked to find out the defendant client is her beloved. She has to save Luca from being framed by her own clan. This is a great short story. I received this book in return for giving my honest review.

This was a great fun and feisty start to a new Celia Kyle and Marina Maddox series. This is a great premise and set up and I can’t wait for more books in this series of vampires, witches and weres.

This first book focuses on two vampires, but whilst it is a short novella, we get an understanding of Othercross, the university and judicial system; as well as some of the vampire clans.

This is a great story and the only complaint would be that I want more... more about the characters and their lives (but the bonus chapter available online was great to give me some of that), more about Othercross and all the other vampires, witches and weres living there - I guess that will need to wait for future books!!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Enjoyable and entertaining read

This was a very enjoyable and entertaining read and a interesting spin on vampire mates. My only issued was that it was incredibly short. But also for such a short read it did pack a punch I just wanted more of Luca and Alena story. Overall a good read got straight to action add-in some steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.

I absolutely loved this story!! It was a quick read that gets right into the action pretty quickly. I loved the introduction to this world and the characters. We get to meet both our main characters quickly and Alena is immediately in the thick of it as she tries to figure out a way to help her beloved, that she just met, avoid the frame job that he has been caught in. I loved Alena!! She is a smart women and I loved the way that she didn't back down and kept right on fighting the situation. I am super excited to see what comes next in this new series!!! I would have loved the story to have been longer, just so I could have gotten more of the characters, but it was done really well. Nothing felt rushed within the writing of the story. The action moving quickly made sense as it was a frame job that they were trying to complete and get away with as quickly as possible.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Well written fast paced romance between vampires in this fun read

This was a really fun intro to a new series by these two fab authors :) It's a lunch time kind of read but don't let it's length fool you - it's full of action, steam and politics for just one courtroom case. Imagine finding your fated mate, or beloved for vamps, in a courtroom fiasco you're trying to salvage. That's what's on Alena's plate when she strides into room 8 but she gets so much more than she expected. Grab this one to see how vampire chemistry sizzles off the pages with a dash of magic thrown in to keep things hopping :)

I haven’t loved reading a vampire story more than Vampire Seduction! I don’t normally cheer for the fangs. I loved Alena! She is brilliant, takes charge, and knows she is forever (literally) doomed at her current position in life (undead?). Luca and his stream of Italian words bursting with hawt looks, along with his willingness to accept his punishment. This was a really short story for how much action, steam and plot was thrown into one courtroom case. I appreciate that it really couldn’t have been dragged out more into a longer story, but I sure hope to see more of Alena and Luca in later stories.

I enjoyed this quick read, even though it's a Novella, which normally I avoid. The insta-love was believable in the paranormal romance story way, since both main characters are vampires. I did like the characters, though I would have likes a bit more for them, and the Capulet/Montague type -Romeo & Juliet swing of things was neat. There's not really a true HEA, but there is a soft ending, you just don't know more than they are on their way to a life together as fated mates. I will probably pick up the next book in the series at some point when I'm looking for a quick read.

Welcome to Othercross

Once again these two talented authors have come together to bring us one wonderful story. It also happens to be the start of a new series. Know what that means? Yep...more hot stories to come!! While this seemed to be a little shorter than normal (I was able to devour it in one sitting), there's a lot of "punch" packed into the pages.

Alena Falkov is a vampire but that doesn't mean she doesn't gave to work for a living. She is training to be an attorney.  It looks like this latest case will be a turning point for her.

Luca Ravenna is on trial for a crime he didn't comit.  With the court stacked against him it looks like he's heaed for a cell.

A very fast paced courtroom drama,  with that bit of paranormal extra.

Good fun.

Really enjoyed this fast pace story. It was soo fast and I dont mean just the book. Their mating was super duper fast but extenuating circumstances but I wont spoil it. I really loved it. Luca and Alena were perfect. She's not willing to lose him once she found him. She will get to the bottom of this case because she refuses to let him rot.

I couldn't help but laugh at all the fun character banter, antics, and steamy quickie. Luca and Alena both got a big surprise during his trial. I loved the dialogue and the introduction to the characters living in Othercross. My only complaint was that the book was short and that is only because I enjoyed Luca and Alena so much. I still felt like I got a full story and wanted to see what else is happening in Othercross. These authors never disappoint and have the best collaborations. I definitely recommend checking out this new series.

Ooh! This was a great start to a new series/world created by Celia Kyle and Marina Maddix. It was short, sweet and sexy. Luca was a growly, centuries old, sexy vamp who was the fated mate - beloved - of Alena. She’s a young vamp but feisty. I’m really looking forward to more stories set in the Othercross.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
It was just another day at court for Alena.
Luca was facing life in prison.
He was set up.
Alena + Luca have their work cut out for them.
Will they be able to prove Luca's innocence in time ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.
