Police Lieutenants, God and Day are under intense pressure from the chief to take back control of Atlanta’s streets. The last thing their task force needs is a pair of trained killers in town with a personal score to settle.

Take a man and strip him of his ability to feel compassion, empathy, remorse, or any of the emotions that make him human, but leave the ones that ignite rage and aggression and you have the perfect killing machine—now imagine two of them.

Code names Ex and Meridian are synonymous for ‘guaranteed death’ to international terrorists. Two broken men from the same crooked streets, recruited into an unsanctioned government program that few know about. Trained to operate most efficiently—lethally—together.

When Ex returns from an op in Bolivia to learn his little brother has been accidentally killed in a feud between drug gangs, he’s stateside before he can consider the rules he’ll be breaking, and of course Meridian is right beside him. There’s mayhem on the streets of Atlanta and the police are losing control. If Godfrey and his elite team of detectives can’t get the job done then they’d be happy to lighten their caseloads for them. And Ex nor Meridian care about doing it quietly.

“I know who you are.” The man grunted when Ex turned to leave. “You’re the fucking devil.”
Meridian walked past, glaring one final time. “Say that loud enough… maybe God will save you.”

But after their first run-in with the big lieutenant and his protective husband, Day, Ex and Meridian start to reevaluate their own relationship. Wondering if they could be even deadlier if they let loose the feelings for each other that they’ve been forced to suppress for years.

Meridian’s dark eyes stayed locked on his, “A man who can fight beside the one he loves doesn’t make him weaker, Ex—it makes him more dangerous.”

No multiple pairings. No cliffhangers. Ends with a HEA.

Note: This title focuses on two new characters in the series. And while it can standalone, there are appearences from prior main characters.
Note: This is a partners-to-lovers, out-for-you, action romance.
Note: There are depictions of violence in this novel.

Another awesome reread 4/5/2022

I have been a big fan of this series since I read the first book and fell in love with God and Day... no matter how ridiculous I found their names at the time. They grew on me though... the names, I can not imagine God having any other kind of name, it's just him.

Now what I love most in my books is some bad-ass alpha goodness and boy does this book deliver. Ex and Meridian are as bad as they come and they are about to cross paths with our favorite narcotics team!! So much alpha yumminess!!

Ex and Meridian are military trained assassins, and they have been partners since the beginning, years ago. Trained to be cold as steel and to feel no emotion, they are lethal. But imagine what happens when the devil is forced to feel... What will happen when a  killer trained not to feel, is suddenly overwhelmed with emotions and not the good kind...but the destructive kind, the kind that brings you to your knees...grief.

Ex and Meridian are about to rid the streets of Atlanta of certain scum in the name of vengeance and anyone standing in their way will be dealt with. So God and his team better decide which side they are gonna be on.

The closer Ex and Meridan become the deadlier they get. Because the love they have between them makes them even more dangerous

A man who can fight beside the one he loves doesn’t make him weaker, Ex—it makes him more dangerous.

I absolutely loved Ex and Meredian!! They were definitely my kind of men. All that cold and ruthless hotness!! And the two of them together...yowza!

all the gay gif - Google Zoeken

Another thing I really enjoyed about this book were the multiple pov's. I loved getting back inside God and Day's head. I missed them so much and the whole team does play a big role in this book.

I think so far this might even be my favorite of the series for me...though "Here comes Trouble" makes for a close second, together with "Nothing Special V".

I can't wait to see what will be next... I think Fox and Bull are up and I hope the wait won't be too long ;)

I highly recommend this series

Just make sure you read the other books in this series before starting this one ;)

I think I'm in the minority on this one...

I've enjoyed this series so far and as is often the case I've enjoyed some stories more than others.

So far my absolute favorites have been 'Nothing Special V' and 'Nothing Special VI: His Hart's Command' (especially this one) I really loved both of these stories but then I admit I'm a bit of a geek/nerd fan, I love stories where it takes both brains and brawn to resolve a situation where everyone has a chance to show their worth and I admit I just really, really like Tech and Free, they're two of my favorite characters in the series.

I think what happened here for me was a bit of a disconnect. With most of the other characters we got a chance to meet one or both of them before getting their story. With the exception of God and Day of course since they started it all. While I don't feel that meeting characters before they become the MCs of a story is a requirement for me...it's nice but not necessary and what happened here was that both Ex and Meridian came so far out of nowhere that they were a bit of a 'what the hell?' moment for me and I can deal with this most of the time...surprises can be fun. This time around I just found my imagination have to stretch to far to make it work.

Unfortunately in this case I also just couldn't connect with the characters or their relationship. These men were suppose to be deadly and lethal and quite honestly I just wasn't feeling it. At times for me they almost came off as careless and immature. Considering that they were supposedly recruited and trained to be part of a super secret dark ops government program their characters just didn't quite hit the mark for me and I fully recognize that this is very much a subjective opinion and may have worked well for others so not right or wrong just personal opinion here.

Ironically even though I didn't really connect on any level with the characters and their relationship what saved the relationship aspect enough to give it some believability as far as I was concerned was the fact that there is a history of an eight year old working relationship here and not a typical working relationship here. Ex and Meridian have literally lived in each other's back pockets for much of this time and they have saved each other's lives, on more than one occasion, creating a situation where having intense feelings for each other was made an easily believable thing.

The best thing about this story was the fact that essentially the God, Day and their entire team were a part of this story. It was like old home week and everyone was in attendance and of course like all good alpha males everyone had thoughts to share.

'EX Meridian' wasn't exactly a huge success for me, neither was it a total fail and according to the blurb these are two new characters in the series so while they may not be favorites for me...yet, who knows what the future will bring to this pairing and how I'll feel once we get to know them better.

Also I'm sort of curious about their driver Slade and at the same time I honestly couldn't decide if I want to know more about him of if he was just a superfluous sidebar that we could all do without...in short for me the jury's still out on some of this story.

I know the blurb on a number of the books in this series says they can be read as standalones and essentially they probably could but truthfully I think that reading the series from the start makes for a more enjoyable reading experience and gives an even better sense of understanding between the couples and the over all team dynamics.

While this one didn't garner the love from me that some of the previous stories have overall the series is still a keeper on my reading list and I have to admit I'm more than a little anxious to get the next book in the series...it's Fox and Bull's turn to be in the spotlight and I'm sure I'm not alone when I say "I can't wait!"

With The Ravens (a spin-off series to this book/characters) coming this summer I thought it was time to return to Ex and Meridian and their origin story.

Looking forward to see if Ms Via can snatch (or will choose) Aiden Snow again for narrating this new series.

--- Original review ---

This was my third book in this series and oh boy it’s fantastic. Loved all of them so far and I love that you not necessarily need to read them in order. I think it’d be better though but it’s also okay if you’re not.

Besides that the narration is superb! Aiden Snow is just perfect for this series!

I weirdly like it

This book has a lot better than the others I read, the smut was there but thank God (ahahah) it wasn't that strong, the story was definitely solid.

They are the cutest assasins ever! 💕

Oh this was just so good! I wasn't sure how 2 new characters were going to be woven into my beloved Nothing Special world, but it was so expertly done by Ms. Via. First let me start with Ex and Meridian...these two were super alphas, bad ass, military trained operatives that have been working together and off the grid for 8 years. Trained to be super killing machines, devoid of attachments and emotions. That did not stop them from letting their love for each other come through. Their romance was a sweet, slow burn amidst the intensity of trying to bring a killer to justice. Their relationship was intense, strong and sexy as hell!
They were working on a "case" in Atlanta and crossed paths with God, Day and the whole gang! It made my heart so happy. The storyline was gripping, the action was so good and kept me on the edge of my seat and we got heavy interaction with God, Day, Syn, Roux, Green, Steele, Tech, Michaels, Judge, Hart and Free...it was splendid!
As in true AE Via style, the action was intense and gripping, the love between all these men was strong and present and the payoff was fabulous! The last 2 bonus scenes at the end were simply splendid. She knocked this out of the park!

***4 Stars***

"A man who can partner with the one he loves doesn't make him weaker...it makes him more dangerous."

Not gonna lie, I was a little worried about how the author was going to just drop in two random MC's into an established series and make it work. Well, it totally worked.

Ex and Meridian's story wove in seamlessly into God and Day's world. Adding in God's point of view was the perfect thread to tie this book to the rest of the series. And when all were in the same room together....whooooo boy, all that testosterone had my body zinging!

"I'm not your enemy, God. I suggest you keep it that way."

"With all due respect, you're in MY city," God growled.

Ex didn't blink. "Fuck your respect. You're in MY country."

Two badass, government trained assassins looking for justice and falling love....yep, right up A.E. Via's alley.

Ex and Meridian felt like the even more badass and lethal version of God and Day. Partners who balanced each other, anticipated each other's needs, communicated without saying a word, and exploded with passion when they came together.

The story was fast-paced, high action, full of emotion, packed with yearning and deep stares, loaded with intimate touches and passionate kisses, and sprinkled with just the right amount of steamy nights.

I loved watching Meridian and Ex finally admit to each other what they've been feeling for some time. Seeing these two men who've been trained to be cold-blooded, emotionless killers slowly thaw and allow love into their hearts is exactly why I continue to read A.E. Via's books.

And this one was pretty emotional. Ex's grief was almost like another character in this book. My heart broke for him. It broke for the brother, the son, and the killer who didn't know how to process what he was feeling.

Ex grunted in the tight embrace. "Mere."

"I'm right here."

"How do I control this?" Ex's knees tried to give out, and he leaned back to put the weight of his sorrow on his partner, because he wasn't sure he could carry it alone any longer.

However, as is this author's way, she tends to cruise into the over the top category...and this book didn't change that.

Once Ex and Meridian finally got together, it's as if they suddenly forgot who they were. They were controlled by their dicks and their libido. If you can't be within 10 feet of the one you love without getting a hard-on or without losing the ability to think...you've gone from passion to obsession.

But after 7 books in this series, I know what I'm going to get when I pick up an A.E. Via book...so I've learned to accept it and roll with it.

All in all this was a great addition to the series, and I can't wait for more. And I definitely wouldn't be mad if we got some more Ex and Meridian in the future. I mean, God and Day's crew could always use some more badasses on their team.

They met each other's eyes and Ex knew at that moment that nothing would ever be the same between them again.

He was in love.

He was a dangerous fucking man now.

These books are totally crazy and OTT. After reading the blurb I was excited about this one and it jumped to the top of my to-read list.

The liked the idea of this and both Ex and Meridian.
I’m sorry to say it didn’t totally win me over. The reason I think is all the telling. So much time was spent telling us how great these guys are. And while this is true, they are pretty great.
I liked the parts when they were actually doing. I did however like the slow burn. The way their relationship changed.

I loved catching up with the rest of the guys.

It’s still an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to the next one.

It was fine. But I skipped quite a bit, because I really didn't care about the other characters, even if they were part of the plot. Which honestly the plot wasn't all that riveting, hence more reason to skip.

Plot: Ex's younger bro got killed wrongfully. He's hell-bent on revenge. End plot.

But I did enjoy the chemistry between the 2 men. So, 3.5 stars rounded up.

This one took me a bit to get into I started it but wasn’t into it then I gave it another try and I was hooked.

Its sad how we get to know these men but their need for vengeance is admirable.

Ex and Mer are a team but they both want more and you can tell they both want it but because they depend on each other they never acted on it until now.

And when they finally let loose man it is HOT, hella HOT!
I like that the blurb had my favorite part.

“I know who you are.” The man grunted when Ex turned to leave. “You’re the fucking devil.”
Meridian walked past, glaring one final time. “Say that loud enough… maybe God will save you.”

If you read any of the other books you know that had a meaning ;)

Great book, I hope we get more either in this series or the other one I just loved it so. And Aiden Snow’s delivery of the audio’s were amazing.

*3.5* Enjoyed it, but expected more from two “super soldiers.” I thought that Ex and Meridian would be more like a Universal Solider (anyone remember that Van Damme movie?) they were part of an unsanctioned government program after all...I think the ideas were all there, but I didn’t enjoy the overall presentation as much as I hoped.

I really liked the additional chapter with Rux and Green. The trauma they endured and how the team supported them was excellent.

As always, Aiden Snow could read me a statistic book and I’d be entranced.

This book was awesome! Not only do we have EX and Meridian, two Alphas who are especially trained to stop any and all bad people and things, but also the entire Atlanta Narcotics Task Force are back with special appearances by Ty and Kel from The Bounty Hunters series! I disagree with the tile it IS SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL! The two killing machines are in town, trying to find a killer as fast as they can before they themselves will be called upon to do their duty. They are working against the clock to find out if the local drug task force is corrupt because they have not been convicting anyone for quite some time now. Said task force is headed by two lieutenants, Cashel Godfrey (God), and Leonidis Day, together with seven of the "baddest" cops in Atlanta...perhaps the entire state of Georgia. Enter now our two new bad, good guys...Ex and Meridian. They were both trained to do their jobs perfectly, without the slightest show of emotions...precise and without a single second thought. The perfect killing machines. But having someone you love killed can allow emotions long curtailed and tamped down to return to the surface again. God and his team have never met men like this before. Trained killers, but they aren't threatening God's team...they have an agenda, and they actually want to help God take someone down. God wonders if he and his team can trust two strangers with that much fire power. Ex and Meridian have been partners for a long time. They move in sync with each other in a flawless, graceful dance. After meeting God, Day and their team, they realize they might actually be able to act on the feelings they've been suppressing for years. Is it really possible to be partners and lovers? Does that make you more vulnerable or more dangerous? This story was so good! The excitement, the heat, the foreplay. All of it! As always, seeing God, Day, and the other men on the team is always "something special". I'm just hoping we see Ex and Meridian again too! I love listening to narrator, Aiden Snow. His voices of these characters were simply amazing. He let you hear the love, anger, anguish, loneliness and protectiveness among all these strong men. Good job again, Mr. Snow,

4.5 Stars. I know this book is seriously OTT but I love it anyway. It's like going to an action movie you just know the action is going to unbelievable and the good guys will hit everything they shoot at and the bad guys will hit nothing even if they have automatic weapons but you love it anyway. That's this book - two badass guys taking out all the bad guys. Throw in some hot man on man romance/sex and that makes it even better. I really loved Ex and Meridian and the bond they had with each other. The overall plot wasn't as engaging as some of the previous books but I didn't care. I also loved that God, Day and crew played a pretty big role in this book. It was just fun and a great way to just enjoy and listen to the adventure.

I'm bad.
No I'm bad.
No we are bad.
NOOOO WE ARE BAD.
Yes they are bad. I mean YES!

This book was funny!

I loved seeing my men again especially Judge, Michaels, Ruxs and Green. My two fav couples!

Ex and Meridian are partners since the beginning of their career. They never expected a relationship together. In their world, it's...."complicated". When Ex heard about the murder of his young brother, he come back home for revenge. With his partner logically. These two are some of the best CIA specimens.
God's team are battling on the legal part to stop the bad guys. But it's kind of hard when the bad guys are really close to them.

God's team + Ex/Meridian => Bad guys OUT.

In the middle of that two of the best CIA men, find love with each other.

(more on the dirty way haha)

« If you had stopped breathing,” Meridian said hoarsely, looking Ex dead in his eyes. “I would’ve laid there holding you until I did too. »

Love you Michaels tough!

To be honest, I so hate to be a party pooper. Everybody is raving about this book. I went into it knowing what to expect, and to a point I wasn't disappointed. Some things were the same: sheer perfection of every character and their incredible abilities. I half expected somebody to start doing magic. That was grating on the nerves a bit. Another, was that again there was too much God and Day time and POV. I mean, they dominate the series so much that other couples do not get enough of their stories told. Confession time: God and Day are my least favorite couple in this series. (for many reasons one of them being that most of the time they sound like complete jerks with God complex, pun intended)

The new couple, Ex and Meridian, are okay. First part of the book I honestly couldn't take them seriously half the time. While trying to create this strong connection between them, the author at times made them sound corny and at others somewhat superficial. The whole enhanced abilities angle could have been great had it been developed more. The background story in my opinion was incomplete.

That said, there were some riveting moments involving them, some intense feelings, and I did see the connection between them as something more than ordinary. I quite liked the second part of the book. A lot of posturing, testosterone and over the top convenience was going on though per the norm. I am glad that the author didn't fix everything for Ex and Meridian. I liked how they ended up in the end. Some events and actions were just made to fit, but I just wanted to know how it ended so I soldiered on.

I really disliked that every single character was almost a carbon copy of the other. The complete physical perfection and complete lack of flaws in most of the characters spoiled this book for me. But Ex and Meridian at times felt human and fallible, and that's what pulled this book through for me in the end.

Best one yet I love morally grey characters

Oh, well that was an absolute banger of a book featuring two guys who operate under a blanket of secrecy and with deadly effect.

I loved this one, I liked how the plot was tied in to the wider problems that God's team has been investigating throughout the series.

Ex and Meridian were hot as molten lava, working under the cover of darkness, operating on the edges, their lives wiped out and their existence denied.

When their paths crossed with God's team it led to some amusing alpha posturing but ultimately, mutual respect and cooperation.

There's more action and focus on the crimes investigation in this than there has been in the previous couple and finally there's an answer to why cases have been dropped without prosecutions.

Overall this has definitely been my favourite so far and I hope we see the deadly assassins again!

I loved every bit of this book.

Ex and Meridian were such badasses and it was great catching up with the other couples in this series. I don't know how well it'll do as a stand-alone but you can attempt because it really is good.

This was a great addition to the series and I hope we see more from these two in the subsequent books!

O and awesome move by the author to put the entire series on KU!! *claps furiously*

Holy smokes! This book is a 10 out of 5 stars for me!
Let me start with saying that the plot of the book is really well thought out and the sequence of events makes the suspence a constant throughout the whole story - there is no reprieve! Putting the book down was painful!
I loved how balanced the story was - we get a healthy dose of action, criminals and justice soldiers, but it is perfectly interrupted by the evolution of the relationship between MCs. The multiple POV narration makes it for a very well presented story! Loved it in every detail and there was not a scene that felt redundant.
And now onto to the sweet cherry on top of the cake: the romance part. This book is not for the faint of heart! You get enough pining and tension between Ex and Meridian, to cut it with a knife (a very sharp one at that). All the emotions are presented in a way that sucks you in and makes you feel like you are the one experiencing them! The characteristics of both MCs are really unique and the author put a huge challenge for herself in presenting them in a way that didn't feel exaggerated. And the challenge was eaten for breakfast! I loved every second of getting to know these tough guys!
All in all, the book was just one beautiful bundle of awesomeness and masterfull writing! It has been a while since I felt compelled to sing a book such detailed praises!

*I received an ARC of the book, but all the above gushing is 100% honest and all mine*

This has gotten a bit darker for my liking but I must admit this was a good story. Dark because there was not an inch of fun, fluff, and shenanigans at all. Just... bittersweet. Even on the task force, everyone was so tense. Nevertheless, it kept my interest.

Ex and Meridian came out of nowhere and it was jarring at first but in the end, they added something new to the series that put everything on a different level. The plot has gotten quite serious and more complicated and the enemies had gotten sneakier and bigger. Something as deadly as the two devils serving justice though, seemed very apt.

The ending and the bonus stories were sad, too and I fear for the drama that may follow this family.

One of my favourites of the series! Two tough assassins with an agenda of their own show up in Atlanta. Soon their way crosses that of God and his team. This one is a bit darker than usual and I really liked it. As always, Aiden Snow's narration is hotter than 🔥🔥🔥

I could open up a betting pool on, "Who will be caught doing the nasty at work." Now they got insurance, that's a drone strike away. Dude, this series is bonkers!
August 10, 2020
This addition to the series didn't really work for me as well as some of the others. I felt a disconnect from the MCs and never really got a sense of them as people. There were snippets about their backgrounds but the main focus was that after 8 years (?) together, seeing God and Day being intimate was the catalyst for them to express their feelings for each other. I think the point that they were supposed to be unfeeling killers was pounded home and that caused the disconnect because we were told how they were symbiotic and in perfect sync so they were basically robots who came to life.

The plot was fine but it had been a while since I had read the last book in this series and seeing all of the couples together made me realize that there weren't many differences between them all. Maybe with the exception of Freeman(?), I think they were all alpha males and super-grr. Seriously though, I do think that it could have been because that it had been so long since I read the rest of the series that I have forgotten some of the nuances of them as individuals. I also may be in a different place in my reading preferences right now so I have to keep that in mind. I did get a lot of enjoyment out of reading the other books in the past, so there's that.

Anyway, I am sure I will read the next book when it comes out as well.

I had a chance to listen to this one and I thought Aidan Snow was a great narrator for this one.

this had a little more action than the other books and i loved it! i did think that the relationship between Ex and Meridian was dragging a little but it was good to see Gods team.

So this book says it can be read as a standalone, and technically it could, but i wouldn't recommend it. you do get God and Days POV at times and you can be confused on their relationship/how their team works. this isn't the only book in the series that does this. I think book 5 is the same. I would recommend not reading that one as a standalone either.

Overall this series is becoming my crack and i can't quit it... i am looking forward to reading Bull and Fox's story now! i will say that this book should have come after since we didn't get any time with Bull or Fox to make you want to read their book unless you have read book 6.

2.5 stars. I’m slowing making my way through this series on audio and I’ve loved all of them until this one. Unfortunately this one is my least favourite. The plot and story itself were great. I was completely interested in the case they were trying to solve but honestly I did not feel the romance at all.

I loved that we had chapters from God and Day. Loved seeing them and all my favourite characters again. Even got some chapters from Green and Rex at the end.

The chapters for Ex and Meridian though were super slow and I kept mixing them up! I didn’t feel their connection at all.

I’m super glad I still read this because the series seems best read in order. And I do recommend it just for background but I’m glad I listened to the audio. Made it a lot easier to get through. If it was just the plot I would have loved it!

Two government super soldiers operating outside of their normal parameters because one's younger brother was killed and he needs to make sure his mom is going to be okay and his brother's killer is brought to justice is a solid premise, and I'm really not sure why it didn't thrill me, but maybe because I never really felt like I got to know Ex or Meridian? And maybe that's by design? They are super secret soldiers. But ultimately, this was a forced myself to finish for me, and only because I love God and Day. This one wasn't my favorite in the series.

Meh.
I haven’t felt like reading for a few days and thought this might get me out of my slump but that wasn’t the case.
I couldn’t feel the connection between the two, it actually felt a bit forced imo and the ending was a very loose HFN. I wish I skipped this altogether.
