The Wild #2

The Free

Rate this book
He took me from the wilderness.
I was all alone and death was near.
His plan was to heal me and then let me go.
A reprieve from my harsh reality.

Food. Warmth. Safety.
Just us.
It’s temporary and one day I’ll be forced to go home.
But I don’t I want to go back.
I want him to keep me. To tame and love me.

Freeing the wild comes with grave consequences.
He thinks they’ll cage him for being with me.

Our love’s not right.
They won’t understand it.
Forbidden. Immoral. Perverse. Vile.

I don’t care what they think.
It should only matter to us.
We are innocent and beautiful and worthy.

Love is wild.
And we’re going to set it free.

This was totally taboo and fucked up.
It's wrong and depraved on many levels and I respect those who don't want to read it, just like I did with book one. This one deals with similar themes and issues, so I get it.

But feel free (see what I did there? *wink*) to unfriend me over this one too if you were one of those who meant to after book one. Because I enjoyed this one too.

Doing a re-read since the author has dropped a new book into this series!!

'THE FREE' is the second novel in K. Webster's 'The Wild' series. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

We asked to be taken back into 'The Wild' and K. Webster delivered, The Taboo Queen is bacckkkkkk!! Bring me more!!

Take away the forbidden aspect and just throw in the Alaskan Wilderness and these kind of settings are becoming my Kryptonite. I love them!!

28893883-SY540

Even though this was wrong on so so many levels I couldn't help but fall down that rabbit hole of wrongness and just love this for what it was. A love story in the truest form. Was it right, no but it was imperfectly perfect for these two fictional characters. I won't even recommend this book because for some you've already made up your mind about not reading it, and that's ok no judgement from me, it's a book/series that many won't be comfortable reading.

For me I love my comfort zones pushed, from the forbidden, to cheating, you name it authors seem to be coming at us readers and pushing us as much as they can and K. Webster is the Queen, she takes no prisoners.. This series has become one of my all time favourites from her!!

Another re-read. I am now ready for The Untamed. Bring it on!!

Oh Atticus, isn’t karma a bitch?! 🤣🤣🤣

For the past few years, Atticus has been keeping an eye on young, feral, Eve. When she’s attacked by a bear and suffers a fever from infection he has no choice but to take her out of the wild and into the populace.

Eve’s life is complete and utter crap. Seriously, I wouldn’t wish her life on my worst enemies. So being with her as she makes all these new discoveries from peanut butter to the show friends, was a total joy.

I feel like this might be Kristi’s most angst ridden book to date. There’s so many obstacles in their way, the biggest one being Atticus’ hard freaking head.

Overall an entertaining read filled with joy, turmoil and of course good smut. What more could you want? Oh! I almost forgot the best part, it’s forbidden as hell.

Original Review 4/3-4/4/21

Fuck!

From the get go I’m just gutted! Makes me wish Reed had taken his time with all their suffering.

Unfortunately using the Bible to teach atrocious lies, is nothing new.

Jaysas, Reed & Devon love to live up to that cliche; barefoot and pregnant.

Two chapters in and I’m already crying, I can tell the relationship that will grow between Atticus and Eve will be beyond beautiful. He’s everything she doesn’t know she needs.

“I’m not straddling a line between good and evil.
I’m simply holding good in my arms.”

I love the broken ones and no one is more broken than Eve.

“My heart beats louder when she’s in my arms.
I like the cadence when she’s around.
Hard, persistent, hungry. One day she’ll be gone and I wonder if it’ll thump at all.”

It’s a little insane how much she resembles a wild animal. It’s like when you find an injured squirrel or rabbit and you try not to touch it too much so it doesn’t acclimate to humans and becomes unable to return to the wild.

Gah! It’s so emotional because she just doesn’t understand societal rules. When you strip it all down like it is in her mind, why does it matter. These rules were created to protect children but what if their consenting? Why is 18 the magic number? Honestly I think it’s a huge learning curve for everyone.

Huh ... hmm ... karma indeed, but for totally different reasons than he’s thinking.

Oh Eve, I love her so much I’d give anything to ease her pain. Nobody deserves that life.

“She breathed life into my mundane world and gave me something I’d been missing. Love, companionship, friendship. She filled holes in me that, in the past, only certain people could fill. Eve filled me to the brim with her. Every day was just her.”

It may not be socially acceptable, it might be morally reprehensible although it is legal there. The bare bones of their love is beautiful.

“Tomorrow, I’m going into town. Do you want anything?”
“Fruit,” she chirps.
A smile tugs at my lips. “That’s a given, Eve. What about chocolate? Cookies? Books?”
“Knife.”
Right. This isn’t some high school chick. No, this is Eve. Feral, wild Eve.

5 Wild and Free stars 🖤

The story held my attention from the first page to the last. Its heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, soul-crushing from the start to the very end.

The Heroine is so fucking strong with a traumatic past. My heart cried for her and beamed with pride at the same time.

The Hero is conflicted but sweet & caring towards her and has a heart of gold behind his whole alpha exterior.

"I was born wild, but caged and abused. And with him, I was freed. He broke the chains around my heart and took it for his own. Rather than feel trapped or mistreated, I felt loved. He always made me feel that way."

I loved every second of reading this book 🖤 :)

NOTE: Its a forbidden book and has contents which might be triggering, try to go into this with an open mind. I suggest please go through author's warning before deciding to read this book.

The Free is the second book in The Wild Series. It can be read as a stand-alone. Atticus Knox lives wild and alone out in the woods. He has always had a soft spot for Eve (a young teenager who also lives out in the wilderness). When Eve finds herself injured and in great danger, Atticus is there to help her and nurse her back to health. But when sparks ignite between the two, Atticus knows she is too young and it would be so so wrong.

"I don't want her to leave."
Told in multiple POV, The Free is a taboo forbidden romance that is full of passion and raw temptation. Atticus and Eve are a very unlikely pair and yet somehow they made sense. I enjoyed the organic way in which their relationship grew and the two had such fantastic chemistry together. Eve's character was extremely dynamic as she was quite naive in the ways of the world and yet fiercely strong. The passion between the two is undeniably hot and with the dangers of the wild and the complications between these characters, I could not put it down!
"Her spine is made of steel and her heart is an inferno."
Overall, The Free will certainly appeal to taboo romance readers who enjoy a twisted plot and riveting characters. K. Webster is a master when it comes to crafting a forbidden romance. This is one dark and delicious treat that you will not want to miss.

Genre: Taboo Romance
Type: Standalone book 2 of The Wild series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:
4.25 stars

The wild was all Eve ever knew her whole life. When she faced a desperate situation, Atticus Knox took her outside her comfort zone for her sake. But he didn’t realize it would be a struggle for both of them.

I couldn’t resist a taboo book, so of course, I dived into this one. I’m glad to say this one met my dirty expectations.

I know this might sound strange for a dark, taboo book but Atticus and Eve were adorable lol! I loved their relationship dynamic. It was amusing seeing how both of them adapting to changes in their lives. They had good chemistry and the sex scenes were wild and filthy.

“You’re a temptation I don’t need and didn’t realize I wasn’t strong enough to ignore.”

The book had an intense prologue which I loved. The rest of the story was entertaining but felt a bit flat in the middle and I wanted to know more about Atticus' background. I’m glad for a certain revelation towards the end which brought back the excitement.

The Free is a tale of boundless love. It would appeal to readers who enjoy unconventional love stories without judgment.

Note: There’s a weird vibe on a certain character towards the end of the book. My mind is conjuring up some disturbing possibilities lol!

3.5 Little Fox & Big Bear Stars

Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the second installment in "The Wild" series with characters’ crossover. It can be read as a standalone but IMO it’s better if you read it in order (albeit if you don’t have a problem with taboo stories شnd there is a huge age gap! that’s it!). Well, the story started off really good but then I didn’t like Eve! I couldn’t connect with her character the way I liked! But I liked the way she wore Atticus down! Overall, I had a good time reading this and hope you enjoy it as well!

So, this book is not for everyone and I respect those who choose not to read about these controversial topics. If you disliked Hale, Like Dragonflies or The Wild, you should skip this book because it deals with similar subjects. I'm not going to argue about morality or ethic..in my mind this is fiction . I love books that step outside the box, and no one steps outside of the box like Mrs Webster does. It was beautifully written and deeply moving, a romance I could believe in and root for.

◍ I loved Eve
◍ I loved Atticus
◍ I loved their love story
◍ I loved the smut
◍ I loved the writing

Why not 5 ★?

I usually rate books against others of the same genre..and Hale is still my favorite.

Ok why do I do this to myself. Why. I knew this book was taboo. I mean I know it, and then I was like “techincally you’ve read other taboo books before.” And TECHINCALLY the age-gap doesn’t count in this book because they are literally IN THE WILD. but no, oh no. The author had a twist towards 50-60% of this book that made this book SO taboo I literally felt sick reading it. They are related. INCEST. I N C E S T.

Read that shit again. Incest. I was literally SO mad. The last book in this series was “incest” but the author revealed that the father in that story knew all long that his “daughter” was adopted. So, NOT INCEST. But this, this was Sweet mf home Alabama. Straight up, cousin fucking. And I am never one to ask what authors were thinking but WHAT was K. Webster thinking giving this a happy ending and then apparently making everyone around them ok with what was going on???

Straight up: white people shit lmao. Of course I finished because I am no quitter but I want my fucking money back. This was sick, this was so taboo. And if you are into it, sure I guess, read it but as someone who is not into THIS kind of taboo I legitimately need to scrub my eyes and ask for a fucking refund. There’s a reason this is banned on Amazon.

Also yes, the sex scenes were good.

k. Alright. 2021 is starting off rocky af.

When a dire situation forces Eve to leave her home, the woods, it is Atticus Knox she turns to. But her situation so severe Atticus must take her out of the woods and bring her home with him.
While he has always kept her eye on her, both did not anticipate the toll their close proximity would have on them.

While nursing her, making sure she gains back her strength, the attractions between them reaches a level where Atticus has great difficult to resist her.
I loved reading their story, but it could have been a bit shorter. It fell flat in the middle, but luckily a family dinner took care of that!

The Free is a taboo story, but it is also about unconditional love. Although this is about a forbidden love, in the end this book will leave you with a smile.
“It’s coincidence of the century, sure, but there’s no way you could have known.”

I was born wild, but caged and abused.
And with him, I was freed.

Part of The Wild universe, these are best enjoyed when read in order:
The Wild (The Wild, #1) by K. Webster The Free (The Wild, #2) by K. Webster Daddy Reed (The Wild, #2.5) by K. Webster The Untamed (The Wild, #3) by K. Webster The Unruly (The Wild, #4) by K. Webster

4.25 ★

For years, Atticus Knox lived in between civilization and the wild. Though he kept a distance, he watched feral Eve surviving on her own and occasionally brought her supplies. But when Eve is critically injured, Atticus agrees to be her caregiver. During this time, he learns more about Eve while trying to resist her.

“You’re a temptation I don’t need and didn’t realize I wasn’t strong enough to ignore.”

Beginning with a glimpse into Eve’s past, the foundation is set for Eve’s decision and behavior. Scarred and naïve, Eve’s interactions with Atticus provide an interesting dynamic, as the sexual tension between them is combustible, but there’s also some humor. Shifting between their POVs, it’s easy to get into the development of these characters.

“She whimpers when I push my finger inside her tight depths. “This pussy is maddening. I can’t ever stop thinking about it.”

At first, the taboo theme is very apparent and it provided for salacious content. The fight within Atticus is admirable, but Eve is unrelenting in her claim to him. Then the plot escalates to another layer, which complicates how Atticus views his choices.

I definitely enjoyed the taboo-ness of this story. Additionally, Eve and Atticus are memorable characters. He is so sweet but also sexy as hell. Eve is her own little force and I liked her ability to move forward from her past. There were some areas where there could have been more development, but it didn’t detract from the core of the storyline.

The Free is a layered forbidden romance that deals with overcoming trauma and abandoning society’s restrictions. This book would appeal to those who don’t have limitations in their reading themes.

I read The Free for the first time a few years ago when it was first released. And I remembered that I liked the Wild a little bit more. But now that I reread I just madly fell in love with Atticus and Eve. And I love the Free just as much as The Wild.

The book starts with Eve in the past. And it broke my heart into a million pieces. F**k, I despise her family with all my heart.
She just buried her sister Esther. Their brothers raped her to death. And even though Eve hasn't started to bleed yet, she will become the new wife of her father. And when father is asleep or gone, her brother's can do whatever they want with her.

Then we fast forward to the present time. Atticus is spending time with Reed and Devon. He still brings them supplies and helps them out. He has gotten used to their dynamic and he loves them and their three boys. Even though the youngest is just a few months old, Devon is already carrying another child.
And together they have taken care of Eve. In the capacity that Eve lets them. Until she bursts out of the woods, severely hurt by a bear. They try to take care of her. But she isn't getting better so Atticus takes her outside of the woods into the populated world. He takes her home. And Suma, a native american woman, is treating Eve's wounds.

And while Eve is healing. She is getting to know the pleasures of a hot shower, new foods, tv and all sorts of luxurious things that you don't have in a cabin. You can immediately sense she likes it. Loves it even.
But she loves Atticus even more. She is slowly figuring out that the love Devon and Reed share is normal. That Atticus' bond with his family is loving and normal. And that what happened to her in the woods is wrong.
Every chance she gets she shows Atticus she wants more. And when he asks her age she thinks he wants to hear that she is 16 and tells him that.

Atticus is going slowly crazy. He longs for her. But hates that he loves an underage girl. And he fights his feelings harshly.
Slowly but surely things start to change.

I love how possesive Eve is. And how much she longs for a genuine touch. And how fierce Atticus is in protecting her.

I know this book isn't for everyone. Especially with all the revelations that come to light at the end of the book. But I want that each and every one of you to give this book a chance. It is such a beautiful love story and I adore them and their love. I love the time skips at the end. It added so much to their love story.

5 big stars from me! I cannot wait to read The Untamed and The Unruly! And fall in love with the second generation of The Wild children!

I surprisingly really enjoyed the preceding book The Wild but this book in no way shape or form. I couldn’t even finish it.
I knew going into this book and the disturbing AF information I had previously learned about Eve in The Wild that this wasn’t an easy read. Eves background and the violent sexual abuse she endured made my stomach churn. But what gave me the most difficulty to accept was that Atticus, a former NFL Denver Broncos player, could develop an attraction to someone who has lived life rabidly, never brushed their teeth, never had personal hygiene and lacked most social norms. She was also regularly covered in blood and mud. Sorry, I just didn’t buy it. There was nothing sexy or erotic about this book. Just incredibly far fetched and disturbing.
Sexual abuse isn’t sexy K Webster. Especially violent sexual abuse. Please stop relying on this running theme you’ve developed.
Also, skipping to the last two pages we find that Eve and Atticus have a daughter named Wild. Yes. They named their child Wild.
Get it together K Webster!!!

2.5 ⭐'s

After having read The Wild, I was curious about what kind of craziness Atticus could possibly get up to. He comes across pretty straight and narrow so it had to be something good.

And that was the part of the book I really liked...all the angst Atticus went through with coming to terms with his feelings.

Atticus has always been concerned for Eve. For those of you that have read The Wild, she's the daughter of those unsavory neighbor's of Reeds.

So when Eve shows up at Reed's with a bear wound, Atticus jumps into action. He takes her to his house and calls on an Indian healer/friend to help Eve. And...Atticus does take his care too far, definitely crossing the line.

What was surprising and maybe a little unbelievable was Eve's reaction...especially after everything she has been through. She had NO hesitation, in fact, she spurred him on.

And sometimes, that made me laugh in that really uncomfortable/awkward way. Have you seen the movie, Nell, with Jodie Foster? Eve doesn't talk that way but her innocence is similar.

Atticus and Reed believe Eve is sixteen and that's where the taboo starts...for the book. I always hate when facts are wrong...and this one is glaringly so as the age of consent IS sixteen in Alaska. However, her age is the least of their worries.

If that drama wasn't enough, there's something crazy that happens towards the end...kind of out of left field. I really wasn't sure where the author was going with it.

Fortunately, the book ends well. Everyone turns out to be pretty accepting. Atticus' nephew, Evan, is pretty interesting. I wouldn't mind a book about him but I'm really not sure if I actually want one! 😉

Again I must have been under a rock to wait so long to read this book. The Free is Eve and Atticus's story. What a story it is.

Eve is a girl after my own heart. She loves peanut butter. You can't go wrong there.

Eve's back story is horrific. Makes we wish they suffered more than they did what they did to Eve. Surprisingly she is not as standoffish as she should be. She is bright and curious. She cracked me up a time or two.

Atticus is the loveable bear. Caring, thoughtful with flaws. It doesn't quite fit in with society. I’m not a fan of his brother Will. But his sister Judith is a hoot. Love her.

I love these two together; both are stubborn as hell, have fantastic chemistry, and are comical at times. Eve just keeps pushing all his buttons.

The twist I didn’t see coming. Like, damn. I was equally shocked and excited.

The Free is everything I look for in a Dark age gap and forbidden romance; it’s taboo as hell, entertaining, and captivating, another K.Webster book I read in one sitting.

BIG BEAR + LITTLE FOX FOREVER ❤️

My God, where do I begin? There’s a reason K Webster is the Queen of taboo and The Free is one of those reasons. Atticus and Eve are everything I never knew I wanted for their story. The push and pull was there and then when he finally gives in, it’s every bit of the delicious release you’re hoping for. Their love is forbidden naturally but maybe not in the way you’re thinking? Eve is fiesty and fiery as hell and I seriously loved her sass! She knew what she wanted and WHO she wanted... gah I loved them so much! And if this story wasn’t perfect already we saw glimpses of Daddy Reed and Devon who are still just as happy and in love! *SWOONS*

2.75⭐️ for me, rounded 3.

I really enjoyed this one, not as much as The Wild (for the plot and the characters) but it’s a good taboo reading and their chemistry was off the roof!
I love Eve and Atticus, their dynamics was interesting and captivating... even if the situation was surreal, at times.

An easy reading, overall.

Wild, tortured heroine done fantastically

So, this book deals with a crazy big age gap and a twist.

⋆。˚ ⁀➷ Between Devon and Eve, I'd choose Eve without even blinking an eye.

How did the author manage to create a naïve and innocent girl, yet a wild, strong woman in the same body?

⋆。˚ ⁀➷ Between Reed and Atticus, though, I feel like I liked them the same.

While Reed was harsher in personality, he also never really abandons Devon (though he shuts her out for a time). The few times the wilderness won and he failed to protected it wasn't because he had dropped the ball. Nature is bound to win a few rounds.

Atticus, on the other hand, is a bear. He's huge, he's tattooed, he has dark blonde hair and green eyes. Viking hottie ♡ He is cuddly and protective most of the time, but can be brutal when needed.

However, he does 'abandon' sweet, feral Eve and that was a big blow against him. As was the fact the he tried to sleep his attraction off with OW (though never makes it past a simple greeting since his FWB is in a relationship)

⋆。˚ ⁀➷ The build up and tension was just as good.

Just like with Reed and Devon's story, the tension and build up was hot.

The push from Attius and the pull from Eve was well executed.

⋆。˚ ⁀➷ The consummation and plot sadly weren't.

His capitulation, when it finally came, was... underwhelming. For so long he fought with such force that I expected a freaking conflagration when the dam finally broke (see? i'm so angry my metaphors are contradicting themselves)

The steam also suffered. It wasn't bad per say, but nothing remarkable about it.

The plot after he 'abandons' her came too abruptly and I was sooooo tempted to skim over it (which is never a good thing) I feel like the couple deserved better than a half-assed time skip and silly chase of a bad guy in the wild.

Maybe just them. Her evading him, and him shouting his apologies while he tracked her to the ends of the world.

⋆。˚ ⁀➷ 3.5 ★ rounded down.

In the end, it was the last part of the book that tipped the scales towards The Wild instead of The Free (even though this heroine was better). Since I gave The Wild 4 ★, The Free gets 3 ★

Okay so mixed feelings with this one. The heroine goes through a lot of sexual assault from her family, manages to escape, and is taken in by our hero. They have this really nice intoxicating survival romance where its just them in a cabin in the middle of the woods. The problems include her being a questionable age and him being like it's okay nobody has to know after a great deal of thinking. Don't worry folks, she's actually older and legal age. So really, this book could have been a solid 4/5 stars because it was cozy and cute BUT THEN THE PLOT TWIST HAD TO COME AND IT LEFT ME HOLDING ON TO DEAR LIFE. I got over the rather large speed bump and immediately, knocked off another star when the groveling did not happen. The hero did not grovel at all and our heroine accepted him with no questions asked. top of all that, the ahem twist, was approved by the family for the sake of this couple's happiness. Okay bye.
