Julia Greene and her best friend, Olivia Duncan, are looking forward to a week on Hilton Head Island. They're imagining warm sun, soft waves lapping on the shore and sand between their toes. And Julia is looking forward to canoodling with Dirk Harrison, her significant other. But an innocent trip to a bookstore changes all that. Instead of the warm beach days and romantic nights she imagined, Julia finds herself ensnared inn a web of death and deceit.
This is an engaging, fast paced cozy mystery that I enjoyed reading on this chilly, windy day. Julia is a fun character who stops at nothing to figure out who killed Annie.
I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you. My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it. If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I give If the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give. Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away. Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way.
It was a good story but it kind of annoyed me when the heroine would often go off by herself without letting anyone know where she was going. This when she know someone was trying to kill her. She was shot at once when she did this and came close to getting killed. Lucky for her, her friends were looking for her and found her just in time.
There were possibilities with this story, but none of them were realized. Could not connect with the characters, and most of them were unlikable anyway. The story was not well developed and the actions were unbelievable. I kept reading hoping for better but it just never came. I believe that the author enjoys writing, but this needed loads of improvements.
I picked up this book on vacation. Two of the scenes are set in the bookstore I bought it from. I always find an indy store and buy a local author when I travel. This was a cute cozy mystery meets beach read. Two genres I don't typically read. It was cute and enjoyable. I also enjoy books set in places I have been and I used to live here so that was fun.
This series is a nice cozy series. Although I liked the first book the best, they are all three good. I liked the developing relationships between the characters in this one. The mystery was difficult to solve, but all things made sense by the end. I'm looking forward to the next one.
This book is well written. Everything comes to life with each turn of the page. From the places that are very detailed along with the people. I loved the story line.
Sorry, but I found the characters and their actions annoying and unbelievable. I forced myself to finish reading it, hoping the ending would be redeeming but it wasn't.
