An intelligent and self-deprecating romp through the out there humor of one of today's funniest womenA collection of comic narratives that are hilariously incisive and illustrated in her splashy, apropos style, Lap Dancing for Mommy runs riot with mainstream perceptions of underground lifestyles -- and with just about anything else that crosses this artist's keen eye. Whether she's revealing Phallusies: The Fake Penis Exhibition, relating the psycho antics of Therapy Girl or the troubles of Camaro Joe, or taking friendly shots at sexuality and the '70s Sisterhood, Lopez's talent and intellect take her work far beyond the usual comic fare.Erika Lopez's cartoons are so corrosive they should come with a hazardous material warning. Buy this book now and surrender to her exquisitely vile and depraved genius. -- Alison Bechdel, creator of Dykes to Watch Out For
wtf did i just read? not very interesting, for all its vulgarity. somehow, i expected more. text was difficult to read and i didnt find the art style especially engaging. do not recommend to anyone.
This book is a graphic novel, an adult comicbook essentially. What I love about Erika Lopez is her ability to exploit the peepshow of the human spirit. The things that make you want to cover your eyes and grasp your pearls are in black and white illustrations on the page. The perversity is the norm. And your allowed to laugh out loud, and indulge your inner pervert. These stories are about queer feminist women of color who have no shame, don't wear bras and you can't take home to your mother. This book is perfect for people who like to hear a dirty joke and talk about sexual technique over brunch.
So good! Like up there with Jennifer Camper in terms of intensity. I love the intense sexual and gender politics of it and it's so fun to see her intense illustrations. I guess I'm using the word "intense" a lot. Just read it and then you'll know why. A quick read, but one you really fall into as you read it.
I loved Lopez’s lesbian motorcycle quest narrative/rant about vaginas and two Canadian dudes named Canadian John and Canadian John, but this book didn’t live up to the other, “Flaming Iguanas.”
this feels like the basis for things that erika lopez did much better in her later books. still, i am really drawn to her sense of humor and point of view.
This is naughty and so funny you'll be peeing in your pants. The teens might like it, but don't do it for the high school book talk at a Catholic school.
