As the military coup reaches its final stages, Mercy faces new threats from multiple directions in Flashpoint Book 5....
Half of the earth's population has been wiped out. Impossible to predict or stop, the Gamma Ray Burst tore through the Earth like a bullet, its radiation wave killing hundreds of millions and the aftereffects ensuring the deaths of billions more.
Now, as the world crumbles around them, a ragtag group of survivors make for the only home they know - the small town of Mercy. Spared the worst of the GRB's effects, the town is isolated, safe and self-sufficient - for now. The flash hasn't just decimated the Earth's population, though. It's brought out the worst in many of those who are still alive.
Survival in this new world doesn't just depend on preparedness - it depends on strength.
*****
It's the one disaster no one can plan for. A rogue cosmic event called a Gamma Ray Burst, sending a spike of radiation through the earth like a .50 caliber bullet through a ripe watermelon. It's speculated that such an event hit the Earth at some point in the past, causing a mass extinction event. With two potential sources for a GRB pointed directly at our heads, the chances of another one happening in our lifetime is remote... but still possible.
In Flashpoint, we explore such an event and the havoc it would wreak across the entire planet. From destroying our atmosphere to millions dying from incredibly painful radiation exposure, a GRB would be unpredictable and unavoidable for everyone, rich and poor, prepared and unprepared alike.
Flashpoint is a six-book miniseries-like event, written by Tara Ellis and #1 best-selling post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus. Finally, Tom & Ethan, Sam & Danny, and their retriever Grace, arrived in Mercy, their destination since the Gamma Ray Burst struck, killing millions. The military, led by General Montgomery, were planning a coup and many of his leaders were having serious thoughts of going against him.
With the folks of Mercy looking after each other well, sorting drinking water from the nearby springs, all the food and medications they could, knowing they were running out, they also knew there were those who would take over their town. There was trouble within, which no one was aware of, but the most danger was from not that far away. Could they stop what was about to happen?
Convergence is #5 in this 6 book mini-series by Tara Ellis & Mike Kraus and it's tense and "on the edge of your seat" gripping. I now have one left to read, to see how the people of Mercy survive (or not) with what was heading toward them. An excellent series which I've enjoyed from the start. Recommended.
Just finished number five, can't wait for next one. It is all coming together. The Army and outlaws, serial killers and the question is are the good guys really bad guys. Guess I have to wait for next book. Recommend.
Another compelling read. Who can you trust in Mercy, not Russell the so called preacher, but what is his plan. Then there’s Bishop, what is he up to, good or bad we are sure to find out in the next instalment. Things are really starting to come together in Mercy and the townsfolk are all willing to lend their hand to make it work. They’re also on the military’s rada, and the general wants to rule everything that’s left of the country.
This is a series you really don't want to miss! It is well written with complex characters. It stands up to the best of its genre, comparable even to "The Stand " my only complaint is instead of an episodic series, I would have preferred a long novel or maybe a novel and a sequel.Everything finally is set up for the final confrontation and I can't wait.
This whole series is wonderful. You must go back to the beginning if you have not read the other books. It is an incredible ride about communities coming together to survive to end of life as we know it. A definite must read!
Convergence (Flashpoint - Book 5) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
The excitement and danger ramp up exponentially, as the Thrilling Post-Apocalyptic Survival Series, Flashpoint, by Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus enters its penultimate stage in Book 5, Convergence.
As Mercy, the Montana sanctuary that's become a beacon of hope for survivors of the deadly worldwide-affecting gamma ray flash, tries to retain its integrity under the indomitable Mayor Patti and her supporters, other forces - human ones this time - have come to the US heartlands, in the form of megalomaniac Russell Boyd and his mercenaries.
Can General Montgomery and the First Forces fighters, such as Master Sergeant James Campbell and his reconnaissance team even the odds in humanity's favour? Can innocents like Chloe live their lives without the deadliest threat of the modern era becoming a grim reality?
Read this thrill-a-minute, all action fight for survival against the odds novel, Convergence, by Mike Kraus and Tara Ellis to discover the ultimate fate of mankind - you'll stay up all night to find out!
The story is really coming together. A small town in Montana has pulled its citizens together to survive what Mother Nature has thrown at them but will a corrupt military leader allow them to move forward.
This is another good addition to what has been a really good series. This did feel a bit like moving the chess pieces for a planned confrontation in the next book.
Very good .now what's going on is Tom going back to mercy or is he going to be to late. Just have to wait and see. Do I read to fast. I get deeply in my reading.
Another excellent book in this interesting series, wonderful story line, well written by a knowable author.. Looking forward to reading the next book of this series..
The citizens of Mercy seems to be working together and helping out whenever they can and doing whatever they can to keep their small town safe, even if that means that Mayor Patty is holding back on telling the town that she lead the military to believe the bug was worse than it was.
General Montgomery has got a reconnaissance team to find the people on the survivors list but are his intentions good or bad? His best friend seems to be doubting him even if he isn’t speaking it out loud.
This book deals with a lot of secrets and you have to try and figure out who you can and cannot trust. Russell is up to something but what? Bishop is up to something and hiding a big secret which makes you question if his intentions are good or bad.
Sometimes people aren’t who you think they are. At times the subterfuge is honorable and at others it is dangerous. Various characters have layers beyond their outward appearance, will they help or harm the survivors?
