Biscuits Without Butter: How Atheists Are Getting Hitched

Rate this book
Biscuits Without Butter is an all-in-one guide for couples who want to create a secular ceremony. In 2014, Brandon Lee, an atheist and self-proclaimed romantic founded ‘The Atheist Officiant,’ a way to serve couples searching for an officiant that shares their values, and who could write and perform a ceremony that truly captures their relationship and romance; all while delighting even the most religious of guests. If you’re considering popping the officiant question to a very special friend or family member, Brandon covers a few considerations to help you choose the best person. For said Chosen One, he discusses what it means to be an officiant; with tips for performance, persona, and most importantly, writing a ceremony. In this book, Brandon shares his thoughts on what it means to be in love and in partnership; the unique and truly personal commitment two people make when they marry; and a variety of ideas to help you put together a romantic, heartfelt and personal ceremony. With a few humble insights from his own relationship, BWOB is a blend of advice, context, and ideas, all in hopes of helping couples make informed, enthusiastic decisions about their wedding. Brandon also provides a selection of sample scripts to help inspire and empower couples and officiants alike.

Great perspective

The atheist community is by definition disparate, so it's often hard to find people to ask. This book is that intimate conversation with someone you trust to help you with an atheist ceremony. Lee gets the religious straddling we have to do to accommodate parents, and gives you confidence in tackling that. The example scripts are great. We get married July 2021, and this book had been a great help in planning our ceremony!
