Instead of meeting his secret admirer, Colton Beale finds himself subjected to a cruel joke. Brokenhearted, he accidentally summons a stunning black unicorn that not only chases the bullies away but then transforms into a Scottish hunk who wants to be his mate. Torn between wanting to keep him and sending him back where he belongs, Colton has to decide just what kind of man he wants to be.
This paranormal M/M romance contains a lonely young man on the verge of graduation, a gorgeous Scottish unicorn-shifter determined to be his champion, and a glittery rainbow HEA that will make you smile. 38,000 words or 152 pages.
Overall, the series was a lot of fun but this one really fell short for me. It was a little bit terrible in that there was hardly any story at all. The conflict was like a dozen pages total (at least it felt like that) and Bonecrusher 😒 was the one MCs name? His supposed Scottish brogue was just awful. Colton was very milquetoast and there was very little heat.
When Colton finds someone has played a cruel joke on him his tears have brought forth the champion, Bonecrusher. Bonecrusher is a unicorn shifter and it's his duty to protect and avenge the emotional harm done to Colton.
Colton has two choices... either he tells Bonecrusher the names of the bullies so he can behead them or he kisses Bonecrusher and they become mates. Colton wants them punished, but feels beheading is much to serious, but he's graduating from high school in a few weeks and isn't ready to settle down either.
It was an okay book. I think it's probably more geared towards older teens. There wasn't enough emotional depth in their relationship to leave me with a great impression. The book is in Colton's POV. The angst level is low.
This series has been like popcorn - not super filling, but I keep wanting to munch more, though I feel the price point is a bit high for the length. This one didn’t hit the spot quite as well as most of the previous ones, in large part due to the atrocious and inconsistent attempt at a Scottish brogue. It had a twist at 2/3 that was entertaining and helped redeem it, but it’s not one I’ll be reading again.
Colton comes from a poor single mother home. He is a loner and picked on in high school. He hates school and longs to go to his special computer school after high school. Then he starts getting notes from a secret admirerer which brighten his day. On the last day of school, his note asks him to go to the playing field so he can meet his admirerer face to face. Instead of meeting a boy who likes him, he finds out he has been set up for a horrible prank. In tears, he thinks angrily of revenge. To his shock, a black unicorn shows up and chases the bullies away. The black unicorn shifts into a gorgeous Scottish man named Bonecrusher who says that Colton's virgin tears has summoned him as a champion. Bonecrusher demands the names of the bullies so he can kill them. Colton may have been angry but he doesn't want anyone killed. He tries to send Bonecrusher back without his killing the bullies but Bonecrusher says that the only way he can ignore his champion duties is if Colton kisses him. If Colton kisses him, they will become fated mates forever. Colton isn't ready to settle down for life yet even though Bonecrusher is very tempting.
Out of the stories from the series that were available for review at the time I found them this wasn't one of the most compelling synopses, but I thought it would be a cute starting point to jump into.
While it was kind of cute at times it was also quite juvenile as it lacked depth. The high school student despite being legal age, the pettiness of youth, the "but things are different nowadays" explanations, the simplistic solutions, and the "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah" moments during high school graduation...these bits in particular were eye-rollers and skimmable.
What was nice about this story was Corey's mother. The voice of reason, the sweet and loving mother both men need, the dose of reality this story needed. I also liked the confessions when they came because they were sweet and heartfelt. And the meadow scene, that was adorable.
Overall the story was nice, not deep or totally fulfilling, but an okay read that passed quickly. I'll keep going with the series, but this likely won't be the favorite, a nice book but not my favorite.
This was a fun read. I think I've only read one other unicorn shifter romance, so I was excited to find another. A Scottish black unicorn named Bonecrusher wanting to behead high school bullies for hurting his intended mate wasn't what I had originally pictured, but it was interesting. I liked the overall concept of the story and the characters. I wish this was a college graduate student rather than high school though. I guess in general I've outgrown teenager romance in preference of the maturity that comes with adults lol. Though Colton was levelheaded and lacked the horrible teenage angst, so the teenager thing didn't bother me much. I really liked the last scene of the story. (Though can you imagine calling your significant other Bonecrusher for the rest of your lives??) 4 stars.
This book took a bit to get into. It honestly reads a lot like a parody at times. For example, Colton accidentally summons a black unicorn (named Bonecrusher) who wants to kill high school boys for bullying—by chopping off their heads. But the unicorn can’t handle foul language. After that, Bonecrusher has to win Colton over in order to mate him (although Bonecrusher seems much older than the recent high school grad he’s there to mate with). The potential is there for a really cute story (the blurb sounds really good), but the execution just doesn’t pan out. Still, once you accept that it’s a lighthearted, near-parody, it’s not too bad.
Huh. I was worried for unicorns there for a while, but all is well that ends well 😀
It was a rather unusual twist to the classic ideas about unicorns, which was a bit of a surprise. While the whole "right out of high school" thing was a bit odd, it fit in well considering how naive and inexperienced they both were. The heat was turned up only at the end, so in a way, this was a bit like an explicit YA novel. A sweet, short read with a nice HAE.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
I love a fated mate story as much as the next person but this one was a little odd. Not necessarily in a bad way, just different. My main problem with it was the age of the main characters. You don’t know how old Bonecrusher is but Colton is just recently turned 18 and a week away from graduating High School. That made it a little creepy for me with a grown unicorn shifter claiming his fated mate. Bonecrusher is a tad bloodthirsty, or at least he lets you think he is. I can’t quite make up my mind if I liked it or not.
When I saw some of this series up for arc rerelease I snatched them up! I am addicted to quick fluffy novella's about fated mates! This one fit that nicely and I enjoyed the silly Scottish brogue too! Colton is being bullied and unknowingly summons his fated mate! I loved how Bonecrusher just shimmered onto the scene in all his black Scottish unicorn glory! I enjoyed the story and chemistry, and I am onto book 7! These books look to be a bit pricey for novellas otherwise I would definitely go back for the first 5 in the series! Hoping for maybe a boxset!
I loved this story. Bonecrusher is a unicorn summoned by the virgin tears of Colton who is being bullied. Once there Bonecrusher must either mate Colton or kill the bullies. The book read cute throughout. I loved Colton's mom and the fact that she prevented the two from rushing into anything. Though it took them a while to get to where they were going when Colton accepted Bonecrusher it was so satisfying. This book really shows the acceptability of being who you are. This is well worth your while to read.
This like all the others in the series is a quick, easy, fun read with Insta lust and a magical being, this time a unicorn turning up when it’s sigil is unwittingly made by Colton’s tears.
For me although this is a book that is enjoyable, one that I didn’t need much brain power for, which at the time of reading was perfect. I did feel that something was missing the reason that bought the pair together was over quickly and without much fanfare, the chemistry between Colton and Bonecrusher - yes that is his name was barely there. Overall not one of the best in the series, but I still want to read more accidental mates.
I wasnt sure what to expect.... but a scottish black unicorn called bonecrusher wasnt it.
So he has two choices to offer Colton, either they kiss and remain mates or he chops off the bullies heads. To be fair, Colton made a wise decision despite being a hormonal teenager in the midst of bullying prank.
But our unicorn protector, has fallen for Colton and tries to steer him to the choice he wants Colton to make.... an easy read.
Cute story. Colton spent his high school years lonely, relatively miserable and in the closet. The high school bullies pulled a heartbreaking prank close to graduation trying to out Colt. His mate, a unicorn, Bonecrusher appeared to avenge him.Does Bonecrusher get to crush the bullies? Do the bullies stop? Does Colt make graduation? Interesting story.Colt's Mom is a rock. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was cute...had some hateful bully parts but all around a sweet slow burn romance. Bonecrusher came into Colton's life just when he needed him. I really enjoyed all the parts where there was interaction between Colton, his mom and Bonecrusher...family times was the best. This had a very nice ending...even though this was a novella, I could have continued on with the guys romance.

Oh my aching heart completely broke for Colton! Bullies are awful but I’m glad that he accidentally summoned bonecrusher lol! These two are super sweet together and I love the Scottish accent being so visible to us! It’s brilliant! These series is beyond awesome, I’ve read the frost 5 so definitely recommend reading them in order but I’ve completely enjoyed reading them & can’t wait to read the rest! 😀❤️😀❤️
Welp, I have the same issue with this book as the others in the series. It’s a fun read but not much depth to the characters and I’m sorry I had such a hard time with a unicorn named Bonecrusher. I couldn’t imagine calling my significant other that for the rest of my life!!! Still…if you’ve liked the other books in the series this a fun read.
I didn’t realize that one of the MC’s was graduating high school, I thought it was college. I have not read the other books in the series and I think they all can be read as a stand-a-lone. The book was okay, there really wasn’t any type of angst. There was a couple of pages of drama, but that was about it.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion
I enjoyed this light-hearted romp. I had never thought to see a Scottish unicorn...especially not a unicorn named 'Bonecrusher,' but I loved the way he championed Colton. The story is fun, if a little campy, and a good addition to the series.
I received a free review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Cute, sweet read. A adorable romantic twist. The way these guys summon their would-be mates is quite unique. Also I never considered a Scottish unicorn who goes by 'Bonecrusher'.
A unicorn protector, destined to be everything for Colton. Will they make it as mates?
**I received this ARC via Gay Romance Reviews for my honest feedback.**
This is the story of Colston and "Bonecrusher", it is the 6th book in the Accidental Mates series. I found this book very entertaining. I would recommend that you read them in order. If you want a light humerus book then this is for you. Personally I would have loved it if it were a little longer. Recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it.
This series is so amazing! An hilarious twist in a paranormal romance. It was a delight witnessing Colton summoning his unicorn and finding his heart and future at the same time. As good as any other in the series this book is a wonderful treat! Loved it!
He has been the victim of a cruel joke. He accidentally summons an unicorn who chases the bullies away. What will he do when they turns into a very handsome man? Will he try to send them away? Will he try to be with them? See what is going to go
Defeat your bullies and get your fated mate as a Scottish, black unicorn-shifter - where do I sign up? I loved this story of Colton and Bonecrusher and the author's handling of the characters and plot. I'll definitely be reading others in this series.
This story is a lighthearted supernatural fun read. The very imposing (not) unicorn, bonecrusher is the perfect mate for Colton. It's all in how you are looking for entertainment and I just really enjoyed this. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I just really couldn’t follow this book well at all—too much of the MC speaking to himself and the other MC so was confusing at best. Can’t say I’d recommend unfortunately
This was cute read of two characters fated mate. but they meet in atmosphere that is very stressful we see that even tough he being bully he stills want to do the right thing
