From C.E. Nelson, the author of the acclaimed Trask Brothers Mysteries, comes a scorching new novel.

Three dead.  Shot point-blank.  A hot summer day just got hotter.

Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agent Doc Hunter had a golf game scheduled.  He was a good golfer.  Very good.  Thinking about going pro.  But now all of that had been put on hold because three people on a farm had got themselves shot and Hunter's boss had decided he needed to be the one to investigate.

Doc wasn't happy about the assignment, and was even less happy when he finds there is a cover-up and a suspect list that only seems to keep growing.  On top of that, he has a killer who has a lot more killing to do.

As the body count increases, the media, the sheriff, and Doc's boss all increase the pressure on Doc to stop an angry killer with a growing appetite for more blood.

Readers of John Sanford, Michael Connelly, Jeffrey Deaver, Lee Child and like authors will enjoy this fast-paced mystery.

Chuck (C.E.) Nelson is an avid angler and author of three highly rated murder mystery series.

The Trask Brothers Murder Mystery Series follows the exploits of Dave and Don Trask, identical twin brothers in law enforcement, as they chase down killers across Minnesota and beyond. Like the author, the brothers love to fish, and you'll usually find a few fishing tidbits in each book.

The Edge of Winter and Kill Six comprise the Danny Carlisle mystery series to date. Carlisle has appeared in Trask Brother's books and is a headstrong independent agent from Duluth, Minnesota, likely to get herself in more than a little bit of trouble.

Peter 'Doc' Hunter is the protagonist in Angry Sins. Doc is a BCA agent who is working on becoming a professional golfer when his day job doesn't get in the way. Doc is a good golfer - the author, not so much.

Nelson resides in Minnesota and has a cabin in Canada where he feeds his angling needs and ponders his next story.

His books just keep getting better and better. I couldn't figure out who the killer was until the last chapter.

Angry Sin -

Ehhh.... This was an OK read but not great. My biggest gripe regarding the book is the constant switching of first and last names of all the characters. And the main character had a nickname so he's referred to with 3 separate names. He'll be one name for a chapter or two, then another, then another. Hard to keep track.
I also find the main character to be not very likeable.

So-so

I am not a fan of doc Hunter. The book was interesting and I was not able to guess the killer so that made for excellent reading. However, it seemed to me that most of Docs time was spent drinking or eating or screwing around, or thinking about it, or sleeping because he was so tired from drinking and screwing around. and too much verbiage. We actually don't need to know everything about his shirts.

An interesting mystery plot full of murders and hungry detectives spending much time at restaurants. And also dreaming of golf courses. Trying to figure out who the killer was kept me puzzled throughout.

Angry Sins

When the rich and the privileged are used to getting what they want they can get away with anything. Until someone decides to stand up to them. Small towns have many secrets, this one is trying to cover up theirs. Send in the BCA if no one else can solve the crimes. But when more murders occur things take time. The killer isn’t known till the very end. Highly recommend!

Excellent

Keeps you in suspense throughout, trying to determine who, and although the why becomes obvious the killer's skill is never quite addressed

The story was pretty interesting.
The main character wasn't especially likable. He is shallow, arrogant, sexually driven almost to the point of creepiness, and often pointlessly rude. However, there are indications that he would like to be more and his backstory shows that he is a better person that in his youth. I didn't like how it seemed like every woman practically threw themselves at him, but I guess it fit with the "I was a star football player" mentality.
The AI reading wasn't terrible, but definitely wasn't remotely as good as a real narrator. For example, the AI couldn't tell the difference between "putting" something away vs "putting" in golf, which was weird since there were SO MANY golf references. Some of the AI inflections were better than I would expect, but others were really weird. And there was no change in voice from character to character, though that is preferable to some of the terrible voices I've heard attempted by live narrators on occasion. :)
I would listen to more of this series if I just wanted something easy and not too deep.

'Angry Sins' by C. E. Nelson

My Thoughts:

'Angry Sin' is an intriguing plot that keeps one turning the pages to see what is coming next in this story. Doc Hunter was an interesting character who loved to play golf but had to put it aside because he was a BCA Agent and was needed. Doc kept going until the killer was finally caught, no matter all of the pressure the sheriff, Doc's boss, and the media placed on him as the body count kept on growing. Will you be surprised who the killer was? Not if you keep up with the storyline.

Worth Reading

Great characters and intriguing plot but the author needs to reduce the verbiage. I don't care about House siding, carpet colors, size of bedrooms or kitchen cabinetry. It's like he's just trying to run up a word count to please the publishers. Just stick to the story, C.E. leave out all the extraneous be. Gheexh , why do writers do that?

Not a fan of how the author writes/portrays women. It’s distracting. The story is entertaining but not very deep.

the story was okay but the virtual voice narration on Audible was awful was like a fifth grade student reading the book to you with no variations in different characters voices

Doc Hunter is called to head the investigation of three murders. As he hunts for the killer, more people are killed. The murders seem to be related. Why are these people being killed? Can Doc Hunter find the murderer before even more are killed?

I liked this book. The story was very good. It kept me guessing the whole time. I liked Doc Hunter. I liked how he handles the investigation. I liked how he does not take any garbage from local law enforcement. He lets them know when they have crossed the line. He also lets them know what he needs. He takes no prisoners.

I will be reading more of this series.

Enjoyed reading

This book kept me interested all the way through. I enjoyed Doc and his actions in finding who done it. Not a lot of twist and turns but enjoyable. I would recommend
