Blood Rites Duet #1

Rite of the Omega

Rate this book
Orphan. Jealously guarded possession. The object of her cruel guardian’s desires.

These are the only things Aida Vertia has known in her life. Locked away in the high towers of Logoria, the seat of Aeslomor, she has little contact with the outside world. Knowing nothing of its splendor and beauty, she sees only the cruelties within the sooty stone walls of her prison.

Then he comes on the crest of a raging inferno. Destroying everything she’s ever known. Freeing her from one prison for the cold, hard chains of the next.

They call him the Usurper. A blood crazed mage, no different than the one before.

Yet he is wholly different.

Forcing her to bend to his will, she is helpless to stop the way he makes her soul sing. No matter the murderous vengeance in his eyes or the vicious oaths he swears.

He claims she has a purpose that he’ll see fulfilled, but amid the ruins of her past, she’ll find a destiny far more devastating.

Rite of the Omega is Book One in the Blood Rites Duet, a dark Omegaverse tale with a guaranteed HEA. It contains dark themes and complete power exchange. Scenes are not glossed over, which may be distressing for some readers.

3 Omegaverse Smut Stars

It took me a minute to get used to Dresden's writing at first. Maybe I'm just dumb, but sometimes it wasn't always clear exactly what was happening. But I digress.

I enjoyed this. Er'it is a dick of the highest order and I am enjoying his complete and utter confusion regarding his feelings/reactions to Omega Aida.

I am also really enjoying the magic/mage element here.

This is one of those series I think I will end up re-reading and uprating later.
Looking forward to book two.

Otaso roared to the sky and the Abyss beyond. Lightning sizzled through the air, the boom of thunder rattling the castle down to the foundations as that bloody fire pierced through the too thick air to grab hold of Otaso.

description

He could feel it coursing through her, tangled in every beat of her raging heart. Even in the slippery tears that soaked through his shirt cuff as the infant made known her indignation. It tingled against his skin and crackled along his senses. Power unlike anything he ever dreamed. An Omega. So rare as to be near extinct. Their numbers so diminished that what he knew of them came from dusty tomes and whispered rumors.

description

I was carried away by this story, completely transported to this medieval fantasy setting, entranced by Eva Dresden's writing. I received an ARC, so I gotta leave a review...but I put off writing this review because I was wrapped up rereading this book. I'm not even sure where to start with this review but here it goes. Some (minor) plot spoilers ahead!

Rite of the Omega starts off with the black mage, Otaso, discovering a rare baby Omega. A source of great power that Alphas' covet, there's ancient mythology surrounding Omegas that I found captivating. The rite that will allow the Alpha to harness the Omega's power is best performed when the Omega comes of age, until then, Aida grows up under Otaso's strict thumb. Any true rebellious act is snuffed out of her at an early age - under Otaso's rule Aida has learned she must submit if she's to survive.

Otaso's rule doesn't last. The year Aida is expected to come into her own power, a blood mage, Er'it, comes to usurp him.

✥ Er'it

description

A child king with no court, gathering his armies before he’d even bedded a woman. Revenge was all he’d ever known. For the life and title stripped away from him, the mother ground into the dirt when they cast her out. The woman who begged her son as she lay wretched and dying in filth to take back what was always his.

The first time I read this book I hated Er'it with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. To the point where I thought it was a shame Aida was fated to him, and I sort of wished she could get with the other guy. During the second read through more of Er'it's underlying characterization came through and I found him a compelling (though at times loathsome) character.

Notes on Er'it:

A devouring hunger, a complete, violent passion, like a storm — Anaïs Nin

description

Becoming a feral, wild thing beneath him. Baring her teeth with animalistic sounds, groans tangled in diminutive growls as she strained. Violent jerks of her hips making it uncertain if she attempted to retreat or to get more. It mattered not, as she would take all that he would give her.

How dare she be this thing that made him want her so?

For so long his purpose has been narrow-minded and simply Aida's presence has thrown a wrench in his plans, made him question his own control and path he's chosen.

Er’it wasn’t sure when her legs had opened, how they’d climbed onto his hips so she ground her sweet pussy against the bulge straining in his pants. He knew it angered him to be caught so unawares, that he liked the feel of her pliant body against his as she surged up from the floor to lock her arms around his shoulders with a stuttering cry of pleasured pain when he shoved his hips into her alongside a torrid wash of magic. She was coming undone just from his power alone. The more he fed her, the wilder she became.

description

Notes on the magic:

✥ Aida

description

From the very moment she’d opened her eyes, there had been something exhilarating and terrifying between herself and Er’it. The way he made her body erupt in fire, the safety she felt enclosed in his arms even as he heaped his abuse upon her. Thinking back to the agony of his knot splitting her open that first time, she had still made sounds for him she’d never uttered before.

I adore Aida. She's a tragic character. Similar to Vivia by Tanith Lee, Aida possesses strong power, but has yet to realize it. Like the heroine in The Silver Devil her submissiveness is simply her trying to survive. I understand she can't help her attraction to Er'it, but I'm counting on her coming into her own power in the next book. Yet I hope she maintains her softness. I personally find the duality of Aida's gentleness juxtaposed with the harshness of Er'it appealing. Aida's inner strength is subtle, but she does act out with small moments of rebellion throughout this book. Towards the end her rebellion becomes more apparent as she finally plots a course of action that will interrupt Er'it's plans.

Trigger Warnings:

Safety:

Cliffhanger: YES. I consider this a proper cliffhanger, because it leads into the next installment, and the author provided the first part of the next book and it all flowed well.

This is part 1 of a duet. Fortunately, the final installment comes out August 27th and this author has a track record of meeting her release dates (and being upfront if a release date needs to be passed)

Word count: 66,000+ & the book ends at 97% (Thank you Eva for writing a substantial part 1)

Readers new to Eva Dresden & out of KU

While Eva Dresden is one of my favorite authors and I rated this book 5 stars, I will be the first to admit she's not for everyone. I highly suggest downloading a sample from Amazon first before purchasing this book. She has a very unique writing style that completely clicks with me, but definitely not everyone. More thoughts on Eva's writing style and why it isn't for everyone:

Reviewers aren't joking around when they say this is dark and doesn't feel romantic. To get a sense of how dark Eva goes, I suggest reading Cost of Desperation, a short story by Eva on Wattpad. It's short, it's free to read, and it gives a taste of just how dark and violent she goes. Cost of Desperation can be read HERE. The setting is completely different than this book, but the darkness level similar. If you like Cost of Desperation then you might like her Omega's Destruction trilogy.

What I'll be looking for in the next book:

Depending on where the next book goes plot-wise this may become my favorite Omegaverse series. I'm going to come back and add more as to why, because I think this book elevates the MF Omegaverse genre. I think other authors interested in writing Omegaverse should read this book and note what Eva did. There are elements (world-building, mythology, plot, characterization) to this book that make it excellent and I really want to read more stuff like this. I think many erotica writers write Omegaverse, and just focus on knotting, Omega heats, etc and don't fully grasp the potential of the genre. I'd love to see authors who are talented fantasy writers come into the genre and provide readers a substantial story like this one. I'm going to come back and add more thoughts on this. Notes on what makes this book excellent in my eyes:

Speaking of talented fantasy writers...um, I'd be fine if Eva just wrote dark fantasy from now on, it doesn't even have to be Omegaverse (as long as there's some sex, haha)...this book has me now craving Dark Souls type of fantasy but with hot sex. This has to exist.

I've waited for this treasure since so long. I knew I was going to love this book and I wasn't disappointed.

Eva Dresden is shamelessly known for her ruthless and treacherous plot. It is crazy and at the same time torrid. If you're new to Eva's reads then let me warn you, her rich writing has a spell which you can't undo (and you don't want to) and to us old readers of Eva Dresden, you harlots, we absolutely love her brutal Alphas, tragic Omegas and the depraved way the people are treated in the Alpha world. Here is another of Eva's treat.

Set in primitive old-fashioned era of carts, horses, castles, tents, this is a fantasy build in magical world. Omegas are rare, they hold powerful magic which anyone will do anything to attain. The first Omega born after centuries is snatched from her cradle and kept away from the world by a cruel mage. Aida was sweet and harmless who has led a life of miserable injustice served by the mage.

"Her misery never mattered, her pain as unimportant as the dirt they ground beneath their feet."

Er'it is out for revenge, which led him to Aida. Taking Aida along with him, he learns of her dynamic and her uses. He is one of the cruelest hero created by Eva Dresden so far. If you thought Tobias (hero from Omega's Destruction series) brutal then you're in for surprise with Er'it. Now I get why my GR Omegaverse friends were laughing when I asked about Er'it. Er'it is confused by his conflicted feelings for Aida, her uncontrollable magic makes him suspicious blaming all the misfortune on her. While she is his captive he is protective and possessive of her. In this book there is no kindness for Aida.

"Omegas had no power of their own, and he’d be thrice damned if he let this one control him."

The characters are complexive and the plot brutal.
I like
-the characters names, they seem unique and perfectly matched with the time era
-the language maintainance
-even the bloody horse or Phylix, Khal

Er'it is on the verge of losing his humanity. Aida does take the burnt of his anger, she is so new and alone in the world of power-hungry people.

"Blinked hard and fast to will away a fresh wash of tears as it left her adrift, abandoned in yet another moment of need."

The next book may be of Aida, guessing with the cliffhanger the author left us.

Ugh I really wanted to love this. Eva Dresden brings something new to the omegaverse world so I was highly anticipating Rite of the Omega. However, I have to agree with another review - Eva's purple prose was RIDICULOUS. I seriously hope she sees this because either her editor is screwing her over or she's self-editing and needs to get an editor. The narration honestly sucked the life out of the story. So much filler and description that did absolutely nothing for the plot, just lagged the flow to the point I felt like I was treading molasses-y mud.

I felt like Aida and Er'it could have been much more dimensional characters if the narration wasn't so insanely confusing and jam-packed with fluff. The action scenes were so boring. I mean, 25% in, I had already skimmed way more than I wanted to in a Dresden book. I'm not sure what was going through her head when she wrote this.

I just want to make something clear - this is not a stylistic preference. This was bad editing and subpar writing. It was almost like a high schooler trying to impress their teacher with all the adverb, adjective, and description usage. Eva, please read this - I absolutely adore your stories and can't wait to see what else you have in store, but STOP with the purple prose, girl! Please get a better editor or something.

Oh my poor, sweet Aida. If you want some help disemboweling Er'it with a rusty spoon then I am more than happy to offer my services.

Rite of Omega is, quite simply, a captivating, dark, fantasy omegaverse tale. It was a story I couldn't put down, a story of pain and suffering, a story of dark deeds and twisted souls, a story of a corrupted alpha and an unwitting omega. Eva Dresden has created a dark, middle ages style world, one where magic is every day and omegas are more rare than the Gutenberg Bible. The author imbues such emotion into her descriptions, painting mesmerising images with her words. She leaves some of aspects a little open and vague, allowing the reader to draw their own interpretation of it.

As the first of a duet, there wasn't a great deal of 'romance' in this part, just as there often isn't in the first half of a novel. I know without a doubt that this will unfold in the second half. Possibly when absence makes the heart grow fonder, or indeed wakes up the block headed lout and opens his eyes to the future he may just have squandered. There is an undeniable chemistry between Aida and Er'it, and it was during these passionate scenes that he showed glimpses of just how caring he could have been, though often it angered him so much he reverted to his poor treatment of her. I couldn't help but adore Aida, what some might consider doormat tendencies, I saw as years of abuse and conditioning to never question, keep your head down and follow the rules.

Initially, I though Er'it might discover some redeeming features, might show some care for Aida. Boy oh boy I couldn't have been more wrong. The inhumane and degrading acts he subjected Aida to were, at times, heartbreaking. Yet I found myself unable to hate him, like Aida there was something about him that called to me. He has a long way to go before he has redeemed himself, and I'm almost hoping it requires him walking barefoot over hot coals, strewn with broken glass, whilst being whipped with stinging nettles. Even then I might need to see more suffering from him. Perhaps Kel will stick that horn where the sun doesn't shine, Er'it deserves it.

I can't wait for part two - particularly not after that intriguing cliff-hanger.

DNF. One thing I cannot stand is ramblings that go on and on and slow the story down to a stand still. This could have been a great story. The synopsis promised a wonderful ride. But what I got was pages and pages of descriptions and a line of dialog thrown somewhere along the way. I don’t know what this author was smoking when she wrote this, but her editor should have trimmed four pages to every five written. It’s like the author had to say the same thing differently at least five times before moving on.

Do not wish to finish this story which is a pitty since I love dark omegaverse stories. My advice... just get to the freaking point!!!

I’m not going to rate this as I want to read the sequel next. I will say that I found Aida really weak and annoying. I know she was in a bad situation so it wasn’t all her fault but her character was too whiny subservient. At no point did she even try to get away (not that she could have gone far) but dammit she could have least do something to help herself. I found her too weak in this book but I’m hoping in the next book she hopefully changes. As for Er’it he was just a pile of dog manure and that’s all I have to say about him! Good plot but main heroine not to my liking so far at all.

DNF - I forced myself through half of this book and regretted it.

This one star is purely for the idea behind the world, which is different enough from the usual "omegaverse" storyline that it could have been an interesting book. I hated everything else in this book.

A previous reviewer mentioned an overuse of purple prose, and WOW do I agree. The writing was absolutely ridiculous. I don't dislike an almost lyrical style on principle, I loved Shantaram and Kushiel's Dart, but this was ridiculously over the top. Not one sentence was constructed normally, which made this book frustratingly vague and difficult to read. It completely broke the flow and it was a struggle to wade through the overload of descriptions to try and piece together what was actually happening. It honestly felt like the surplus of emotive adjectives and adverbs were trying to make the book seem "smart" and "different", while being confusing enough to distract you from finding the world building sub-par and the unlikeable characters.

I did not find a single character likeable or sympathetic. At least for the main female character, I thought this might be because of the writing. The apparent "hero" of the story was borderline abusive. Somewhere in the flowery prose we seem to get an explanation for the "strength" of his emotions for her that cause his actions, but all of his emotions are described in the same way and intensity as the other characters, which makes it seem ludicrous that he isn't able to control himself and act better. The characters are one dimensional. Their interactions aren't written well enough to create delicious tension, so tension is forced through emotive language.

I have previously enjoyed some of this writer's work, but I absolutely hated this book. It just felt ridiculous.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫✨ 3.75 stars

This was a very intense book with a lot of triggers so watch out.

I felt that Er’it was needlessly cruel about 30% of the time and he broke away a bit from the traditional ‘alpha loves and protects omega’ trope.

Aida was a pretty weak and scared heroine, which made me sad, but was realistic given she was kidnapped by a destructive, terrifying alpha king.

Their relationship and, honestly, the whole book didn’t really get anywhere, but I am hoping the second book will fill it in.

Overall, it was not my favorite Omegaverse book ever, but if you like the trope I really think you should give this book a try!

Edit: After DNFing the 2nd book in the duet (even harder to follow than this), I am lowering the book rating to 2 stars from 3. And as far as the “ plot” I was happy about, there is no plot. Nothing happens in this series except lots of flowery rambling, dumb metaphors and sex. I recommend you not even starting this series.

********

If I had to rate this book just on the plot, I would’ve given it 5 happy stars. Omegaverse fantasy set in medieval setting? And it’s totally not PC. Hell yes!! But the authors writing, it was just confusing, you will find yourself rereading things over…sigh.

I don’t hate purple pose, I actually love purple pose in old bodice ripper romance novels with a cruel un pc H. But this author doesn’t know how to write it where it’s not annoying and rambling…let me post an excerpt here so you can see her style, but keep in mind that after the 40%, the book becomes more lucid/clear. So if you stick with it, you might be able to finish this book.😂

“At some point his eyes squeezed shut, a brilliant dance of colors blinding him beneath the protection of his lids. Prying them open, he startled at the sinuous threads of frigid blue tangling their way up his arms. Watched on in a daze as she found her release from the friction alone. Sparks of crimson and sapphire erupting into the pitch darkness of the tent, followed by forked tongues of scarlet and lapis. Brilliant stars scattering into the shadows to illuminate every inch of the tent. The bright flavor of her sweetness filled his mouth, burning his tongue with its chill as her scream battered against his palm. The show of lights died as fast as it seemed to appear, leaving Er’it blinking at the bright red and chartreuse dots dancing in his vision. Her panting loud beside his ear as he covered her with his bulk, huddled around her as if to protect her. Every glimmer of sunset gone from her skin, she lay passive under him. Still not struggling, just as she hadn’t when his magic still coated her from head to toe.”

You read that text above, see what I mean? What the F did I just read….😂🙄

No drama with ow but you will see the woman H was with before meeting the h, and he will fuck the h in front of this ow to torment the ow, because he’s a fucking asshole.

-He offered to have sex with the ow while the h was passed out from his abuse, he told the ow she could save the h for one night and sleep with him instead, but the ow refused, that’s how he ended up having sex with the h in front of her. He is an asshole, I kid you not. And this scene did piss me off because what if the ow had agreed, would he have cheated?
So the ow cried while watching them have sex, she obviously cared for him. I felt bad for her, but once the H sees the h, he’s obsessed with only her.

Eva Dresden has taken the omegaverse into fantastical medieval and I can't get enough of it.

Tasting bitter ash on his tongue, the same velvety darkness of her eyes swelling inside of him, he turned to bark an order for this Omega, this Aida, to begin making her reparations to him. To get on her knees and grovel before him as he took these frustrations out on the body that sang for him to use it in any way he wished.

A great start to an excellent series.

~

I am new to omegaverse and boy did I hit the ground running. This is also the first book I've read by Eva Dresden and I am so in love with her writing! I loved how dark it was and I loved the historical setting. Rite of the Omega, as a dark fantasy read, was so satisfying. I was shocked a few times by Er'it's cruelty towards Aida because it was so unrelenting with no remorse or mercy. Dresden also created an interesting backstory for Aida as a mysterious omega and Er'it as a blood mage. The Blood Rites Duet has been ruining my sleep for the past few days!

Do you remember me losing my shit over the Omega’s Destruction series last year? I named it one of my two favourite reads of 2019.

Well, she’s back, bitches!!

This is another Omegaverse novel and it is so freakin’ good.
I swear there is not one thing Ms Dresden has written that I do not lose myself in completely.

OTASO

Okay, this dude is one dark, greedy and cruel mother-fucker. A crazed mage. And I hated him (so well written).
He’s destroying yet another ruler’s kingdom and absorbing its power for himself. While he’s terrorising his enemies he discovers a newborn baby girl.
The king had been trying to sneak her out of his kingdom in order to keep her safe from Otaso but sadly he failed.
Now, as Otaso looked upon this wee babe he realises something.
She’s special.
And then he just takes her as his own!

AIDA

Poor wee lass! God, I felt so bad for her. She’s grown up in Otaso’s clutches.
She knows nothing of life!
Otaso has kept her as his ‘ward’ all her life. She doesn’t get out...like at all. She has no friends, no family, no freedom. She doesn’t even get to wash herself or pick her own clothes.
She has no idea who or what she is.
Something horrendous is coming though and it’s all been leading to this since he found her as a baby.
She’s a timid and gentle wee soul but not in an irritating way, ye ken? You just can’t help but love her.

ET’IR

So this guy is a mage too and although he’s a dark lad himself, there is something very hot about him.
Alpha to the core!
Now, I found him to be dominating and ruthless. Cruel and needing put in his place but still...I wanted him. Of course, lol.
He’s arrogant as fuck though and there were times I needed to throat punch him.
I’m so upset with him at the moment though. He acted like a proper prick at times.
“You fucked up, mister!” could be heard from my bedroom throughout this book.
It’s like, I know he can be a good guy, somewhere deep inside...maybe...och, man! I have too many feels!
This is one of the reasons I wanna kick him in the nuts...and then lick them all better :-)

Omegas had no power, and he’d proven it. Taken her with ease, debasing the mythical creature with little more than a well-placed growl. She would serve her purpose and scream on his cock while doing so.

SEX SCENES

Okay, you ever been reading a sex scene and then kinda caught yersel’ moving your own hips along with the characters? Mhmm...like that.
The ornate headboard slammed into the dark bricks as he used his weight to crash into her over and again. Forcing her to open wide around the growing thickness at the base of the throbbing member pummeling her insides into raw delight. It would hurt when it grew. Making her scream as it forced a place far too small to contain it, but in those glorious moments, she wanted that, too. Already she felt her body fluttering around it, grasping at him. As if she could hold him inside of her and force the heady wash of warmth to fill her. “Greedy little thing aren’t you,” he husked against her temple. “You’re going to have to work for it, princess.”His grip shifted, hauling Aida to her knees. Shoulders kept flush to the mattress, it was in the first panicked moment that he withdrew that she fell back into him. Driving herself onto that formidable length so fast and hard as he crashed into her. Aida shoved at the bed, rearing up with a keen of something beyond mere pleasure and pain as he hammered against something so deep inside of her the delicious ache of it spiralled through her body in a fiery shower of sparks. The slap of his palm between her shoulders drove her back down, but it added to the maelstrom. Sending those glowing embers into steady flames that burst into a wildfire in her veins. After the initial shock left her, she did it again. Squealing with the intensity of the sensations as she braced her hands against the sturdy headboard that rapped out a staccato rhythm that fast increased. Matching the wild beating of her heart as they both became erratic. “Please,” Aida sobbed as he covered her back. “That’s right, princess. Beg for it. Ask me nicely to fill this tight cunt!” She would have pleaded. Begged until her voice grew hoarse and the stars fell from the sky, but she didn’t have to. Between one breath and the next her world exploded.

Final Thoughts on RITE OF THE OMEGA by Eva Dresden
Omg! This was an excellent book and I have a feeling the next one will be amazeballs because, there was a new character introduced at the ending that has ma wee ears pricked up and ma interest piqued!

I was originally going to rate this a 3 because I was so frustrated throughout the book, but the more I thought about it, any book that makes you feel something so strongly deserves a higher rating.
Where to start with this book... I found Aida to be helpless and spineless and annoying. It's not really her fault though because she was so sheltered by Otaso, so I had to keep reminding myself of that. I figured she'd grow a spine at some point. Otaso was easy to hate, but halfway through the book, I actually found myself thinking that he wasn't really all that bad, even though he really was. But the way Er'it treated her...geez. It got worse as the book went along and I found myself comparing him to Otaso like Aida did. I just wish she would've opened her mouth at times instead of just crying and letting Er'it do whatever he wanted. And Er'it? By the end of the book, I found myself hating him. I'm sure in book 2 he will slightly redeem himself but right now I think he's a piece of $hit and I'm glad that for the time being, Aida is elsewhere. I'm actually rooting for Rhyn right now, even though I'm sure he won't be a potential love interest (maybe I'm wrong though??)

I liked it, but it was really difficult to read due to the heavy use of purple prose. I really had to engage my brain in order to understand what was going on in the story. Sometimes I even had to go back and re-read certain paragraphs to even understand what the characters were doing or what they meant when the said something a certain way.

The other thing that bothered me was the over use of the word "whine" or "giggle" or "shriek". The characters barely spoke to one other. They just made noises at one another for the most part. It got really annoying.

The idea for this story was very original and well executed. If you like omega verse and dark fantasy romance, then you will love this book and this author. Again I just knocked a few stars off since the writing style and the over use of certain words took me out of the book a lot.

I'll most likely read the second book in this duet at some point, but not right away since my poor brain needs a break.

I usually love Omegaverse stories... But in this book? I was just confused. Confused at the start, middle and end.

There was too much purple prose and it was irritating beyond belief!

Important scenes would happen, and they were written with such overdone metaphors I wasn’t understanding what in the bloody hell was happening. Just give it to me straight!

The characters... *sigh*

Aida (the female MC) was understandably weak and whatnot, however, it wasn’t extremely enjoyable to see her crying yet again and again...

Er’it (the male MC) was sometimes too unnecessarily cruel. I’ve read many other Omegaverse stories where the male MC is a proper antihero, but Er’it for some reason rubbed me the wrong way...

Regardless, I would still pick the second book to see what happens 👀

I enjoy the darker side of Omegaverse and this definitely tested my boundaries. It was the way he punished her for his weakness. The absolute heartless acts he was able to justify.

Aida is a prisoner - important to remember this as it helps keep what she endures in perspective.
I am a touch torn with regards to her.
She knows only the walls of her keep.
The lies that have crafted her world.
The kind cruelty her master has shown her.
Until the day her stars align
Then?
All he ll breaks lose.
Adia awakens to find that she is now a true possession. A simple slave. And her new owner despises her.
He ensures that she knows her place is beneath his feet.

I'm going to admit I'm still not sure what happened in the alter room. We are given clues but I'm missing an important piece that will tie everything together.

Aida is an Omega so her capitulation to her vile master is not something I questioned. However! There is no way in all the fiery realms of Hades that I would forgive that self-absorbed power-hungry weak mage a moment of my kindness or understanding!

Er'it is an abhorrent arse that will never ever be able to compensate Adia for the cruelty he bestows upon her!

This does end on a cliffy...

I'll be back to update when I'm not a seething mass of anger and hatred
Yeah ... NO still mad as a hornet
I need book two now and I am praying to whatever deity protects the fictional that Er'it gets struck by lightning (that is being nice) and Aidia finds her happily ever after

I picked this book up and tried to get through the prologue, but that's as far as I made it. I'm not currently in the mood for prose that rains more purple than Prince's album.

Purple prose much??

I gave up on this book, even though I really wanted to read it. The over the top and verbose descriptions had my head spinning.

This is Omegaverse, if you don’t know what it is, please take the time to look it up before you judge this book. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s DEFINITELY Mine.
*Grins*
I Give this Book a 4.5-5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 5 Stars!

No Spoilers.
I Am Sooooooooo buying this! So good! And Dark!
If you have triggers, they might most likely be in here. I, on the other hand have Zero Triggers and this book was perfect!

Cliffhanger(?): Oh Heck Yeah! And what a cliffhanger at that!
Dark: 4/5, Granted my rating in Dark will be different from other reviewer, I love Dark to Extremely Dark Reads.
Dark Heat: 5/5
Romance: This is a hard one to rate lol Cause there isn’t much ‘Love’ in this Duet and I’m completely fine with that for right now. :) Im thinking 2/5(?) cause of minor affection.
Drama: 5/5
Suspense: 5/5

Such a Great Read! I NEED Book 2!
Completely recommend to Dark and Dark Omegaverse Readers!

To be honest, I picked this one due to its cover. I haven’t even read the whole title. Imagine my surprise when the word “omega” made an appearance. I double checked. Yes, I got my confirmation, I was reading another book in omegavers (like the ones of Addison Cainor Zoe Ellis).
I did not necessarily chose this type of read for these days but I was not going to drop it as it proved to have some flow to its pages.
I don`t think that I`ve recently read a contemporary book that had fewer lines for its female lead than this one. I was almost incredulous, just watching how this was unfolding. To have a character, a main one that does not talk, just moves from one corner to the other like in a ping-pong match. It was like watching a movie with Rowan Atkinson in it.
This book was different than those “classics” in this kind of genre. It was erotic, yes, but it had more plot somehow, there was a bigger picture, seemingly, happening somewhere in the background.

Aida was a stolen child, since she was an infant, she was raised by an all powerful mage. All good and well until she got to the whimsical age of consent (18) and her stepfather was killed by a (this will get complex) warrior-mage-king. It was as if she got an upgrade to her “master”. She was an Omega, and like all of her brethren she possessed powerful sex-driving magic, whiteout even wanting to. She was like catnip to a big cat.

Even if I mentioned the existence of a plot, let us not get high hopes on that area, as all that happens is mainly this:

A. was born.
A. was raised by O.
O. was killed by E.
A. was E`s.
E. left the castel with A. in tow.
E. claimed that he wanted to bring her back home.
E. and A. were on the road (so to say, technically they were in the tent most of the time)

It is fairly good read for those into the genre.

Kuddos to the author Eva Dresden! I highly recommend this to any Omegaverse readers out there and/or dark paranormal romance fans, you will not be disappointed. I cannot give enough applause to the author of her use of language and the way they story starts from beginning to end how she captivates the reader. This is a story I can definitely re-read.
We have our Omega (Strissina aka Aida) who is taken as an infant from a notorious evil black mage, Otaso, who only craves power and destruction. Otaso has raised Aida, knowing she is special, and to keep her under his control he keeps her in fear of the otherworldliness, and her only human contact is her guardian Otaso and her maid Immari. Then we have our dear mage and Majesty Er’it, out for revenge, only find his revenge has been taken from him from our sweet Omega Aida.

“And so because you stole what innocence the girl had left to her, that makes you somehow better than him?”

He treats her no better than her first evil master, she is confused as why he is so cruel to her. She is knew to everyone around her, they do don’t understand her dynamic no more than she does, Omega’s are only read about in history books as there hasn’t been any Omegas reported in ages. Er’it himself is so conflicted the way his body craves hers and he cannot understand how she has this magic over him to make him crave her so badly, which only makes him lash out more anger on her, but at the same time he wants nothing but to protect her. Then the story ends with a new captor of Aida, will the next story tell us if he shows her any kindness and will our dear Er’it find her and seek revenge towards her captor that dare take his Omega?!?!

Wow! Intense in a most glorious way.

If this is your first Eva Dresden book, you are about to enter a depraved and deeply unsettling omega-verse that may haunt you. But it WILL keep you coming back!

Rite of the Omega: Blood Rites Duet book #1, reveals a tale that pulls at you, like a thread from our Omega’s torn clothing. It will keep you questioning what you have read and just what Eva has in store for her and her Alpha.

The darkness that pervades this story will haunt you as you travel a journey that may cause you to question your own moral compass.

!!! Make sure you read Eva’s other stories, as well !!!

DNF.

I could never get used to Dresden's writing style. You have to constantly read it twice, and its so convoluted, that its hard to grasp what the hell the words are saying. Even if I love Omegaverse stories, having to read till my eyes hurt isn't a pleasure, it's a fucking chore. That being said, I think this might be great but, I seriously couldn't with the way the words just swam before my eyes.

I really hope Aida will grow a backbone in the second book, will make that bastard work for it. I hated how she kept blaming herself till the end and kept reminding herself that the bastard made her feel things despite his cruelty. That's why I'm a little scared for the future. As for the MMC, I love my Alphas in the cruel/mean side, but he comes as a selfish opportunistic guy who wanted her more for her powers.

Holy Shit!... first i just want to say i want to throat punch a motherfucker! damn this story is dark!

Aida... that poor girl has no idea who or what she is. other then to think that everything is her fault. that every bad thing that happens to her is her fault because of what she is... poor girl doesn't even know her real name. even that has been stolen from her. and then she finds herself in the hands of Er'it. another man who is looking to use her for what he can take from her, treats her horribly. believes nothing she says even though if he just asks it could be proven. she is just a sacrifice to him in his quest for more power.

my heart breaks for this poor girl. such a sweet innocent girl. used by the men around her for what they want to take from her.

i find it very interesting for a omegaverse book that nobody in this book has seen omegas in a very long time. and has no idea how the omega behaves or even really what she is. she is treated as if she is doing something wrong or as if it is her fault what happens when she is around men. as if she has bewitched them. its a very interesting change for omegaverse.

i loved this book, even though it breaks my heart and i just want to kill some alphas. i can't wait for the next story to see how this will play out.... i'm kind of hoping that Aida is gonna kick some sense into Er'its thick head. actually im hoping she kicks his ass and makes him grovel big time. because he so deserves that after the way he has treated her. i highly recommend this book to anybody who loves a good dark omegaverse story!
