Disclaimer: This book was given to me by the author for free in exchange for an honest review, in no way my opinion about the book was affected by this. I judge the books only not the authors.

Did you say witches, magic and a book?!

This is my realm! I love stories about witches and magic and I love them even more especially when they are done well. And trust me this book is definitely one of the good ones.

Spoiler FREE Review

The storyline was convoluted, intriguing and very well represented. The author did an awesome job introducing us into her imagination and all those details that make this story unique. I loved the fact that this was not the typical romance oriented book concentrated only over that aspect. It was very much appreciated the complexity of the whole world and the background story of Elyse and her parents.

The characters Chad, Elyse, Crystal, Clara and Matt had very distinct voices and you could easily tell them apart. Their personalities were well developed and you could relate to them in one way or another.

Shannon's writing style is captivating and engrossing and you can effortlessly teleport into her dimension. Where magic, shifters, witches, High Priestess, just to name a few will take you on a journey and you would beg for more!

I took this book and did not want to put it down, I literally stood up until 3 am, because I wanted to know what is coming next and if everything will go as planned. The wait for the 2nd book will kill me slowly I already know that, since I desperately need the sequel!! I must KNOW what is going to happen and I know it will be epic.

Now let's dive into the SPOILER SECTION!

What can I say, the way the magic was used and portrayed was great! I could picture everything in my head and feel like I am there while it is happening.

When Chadwick along Matt were introduced as shifters and Crystal as a witch I was like ''What? Totally did not see this one coming''. Although I must say that I did suspect Clara to be a witch as well it still took me when she was revealed as one as well. Not to mention the shock I got when Elyse parents turned out to be very much alive and trapped in another parallel time loop. I loved the elements of surprise and the pace the story went. The personages felt real even though fictional and the ''special effects'' were amazing I can only expect greater ones in the next books to come!

Rating and Overall thoughts

I gave it 4 starts, totally enjoyed the book and the plot. However even though the complex family story of Elyse was really good, at times I find it little bit too complex and this took me out of track here and there, but I was quickly put back in line with another reveal and shocking surprise. This was the reason why I did not give it 5 stars, although I have great expectations on the sequel and I cannot wait to read it!

Great storyline, witched, magic! Say no more READ IT!

A big thanks to Booktasters and SL. Perrine for this opportunity!

I need book 2! Now. I simply cannot wait. It is a cruel author who makes me wait. Okay. Maybe she isn't cruel. But the wait is! I heard about this book from BookTasters. I knew it was going to be a book I would want to review.

This book was so good! The characters are excellent. I truly had no idea who to trust. I couldn't imagine being Elyse trying to figure that out. I ended up suspecting someone I should have trusted and suspecting someone I'm still not entirely certain of. Did I mention how much I need book two? There is plenty of action written into this story. I could see those scenes, especially an epic battle, play out in my head. I actually closed my eyes a couple of times just to watch the scene better. I think I need an Audible copy too. The book ends completely but also doesn't. What that means is that you could read it and decide that you know all you need to about Elyse and her powers. If you're like me though, you want to know if her parents come back, does Sabine? What happens next to the coven? Has the author finished book two? Haha.

The book has a couple of mild swearing instances. I'm not certain they were necessary. I say that because I was totally surprised by it. There was a reference to sex but nothing explicit. The action scenes contained violence but nothing graphic or over the top. I feel it is a book that older teens and up would enjoy. I would recommend this to them as well as those who like book series and/or enjoy Wiccan fantasy.

Thanks to BookTasters and the author, who gave me a PDF copy to consider for a review. My review was completely voluntary and is my honest thoughts about this book.

My Five Star Review of Immortal Slumber (The Crawford Witch Chronicles Book one)
Written by S.L. Perrine
A story about a young woman just turning eighteen years old and her life is about to change. A family tragedy unknown until now. The main characters life is only just beginning involving changes in idealism, morality and lifestyle. Readers hold onto to your hats because this whirlwind story is only just beginning. This is a story about witchcraft and covens as much as the story is about a coming of age and friendship that evolves into something wonderful. The main character Elyse Crawford has no idea that on her seemingly normal eighteenth birthday she will become a witch and make friendships with the unlikeliest of people. Elyse has a whole world opened to her. A world of witchcraft, Shapeshifters and numerous other magical people. Elyse learns more about her family then she ever dreamed knowing. Then there is her coven ( a term new to her) and all the changes in her life and relationships that a coven can include. There are many personalities in this story that are rich in character depth and supported by witty and flowing dialogue. Many threats all the sudden become known to Elyse and her friends on her birthday because of her latent powers, growing coven and strong family bloodlines she is only beginning to learn about and live with. Elyse has barely an opportunity to learn about her inner magical powers before her and her friends are fighting for their lives. This magic Elyse learns to use is taught by survival and developing her coven and magic as a group is under threats where the cast of characters are reacting and surviving. The overall sense of urgency is told with a seamless flowing detail that I hardly have rwith new writers. More than anything I learned a lot about Wicca and I was constantly reminded of stories like Beautiful creatures and movies like Practical Magic.

I should confess I received this book free in exchange for an honest review - and I really enjoyed it! The pace was fast, the action relentless and the love interest and tension added spark to the excellent plot. Literally chapter after chapter of action and story development. There was suspense, there was conflict resolution, and really interesting characters. I LOVE reading about magic and this was obviously well researched as I found myself wondering... how did the author come up with these words, and rituals, and covens, and ideas?
As a mild and not wanting to be harsh criticism, I found myself a little confused between the characters at first as some have similar names like Chad and Chester and I wasn't quite sure who was who until about a 3rd of the way through the book. But I read in bed when I am tired so probably my sleepy brain! Perhaps a little more time & description could have gone into the character development at the start? I also found myself missing a bit of the eloquent and detailed descriptions that I am used to from the likes of Robin Hobb etc which I really enjoy as they bring the settings to life so vibrantly.
One very silly and minor criticism is that the author used the slang 'rents' a few times, and then later explains that 'rents' are parents. I feel like if you use slang and you are going to explain it, it should be the first time that the slang appears in the book. Sorry if I am being niggly!
But to sum it up I adored the book, really fast past action and suspense. I think it is probably best aimed at a teenage audience. I like that it was scary without full-on terror. I like that it was suspenseful without giving me nightmares.
Excellent read well done!

I received this book from the author through booktasters on twitter in exchange for an honest review. This book was fast paced an full of action. The tension and drama between the love interests just added so much more to the story. I loved the friendship/family bond and how they were always looking out for one another but I am a little worried about how things are going to pan out. Really the only issue I had with this entire book which really isn't that big of a deal was the fact that Elyse didn't question being a witch and entering into the coven at all. She just went with it. If it was me I would have been a little bit more skeptical than she was. However that being said it didn't take away from the overall story for me.

I enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. The story began with introducing the main characters and their teenage lives of love and camaraderie. Their friendship was the band that held them together through their growing phase of magic and becoming a coven. The story wasn't dark, creepy or over the top with magic or language. The characters were well developed and the storyline while not new still was able to deliver a great read that left me looking forward to book 2. See previous reviews for a more detailed account of the book. No needs to write a similar review. I received this book from BookTasters via the author for a review.

I received this ebook for free in exchange for an honest review.

Elyse finds out on her 18th birthday she is a witch. Her parents who were thought to be dead may not be. Her friends and an enemy are going to be part of her coven. Oh, yea, someone is trying to kill her. Gotta admit, she handled it well.

I enjoyed reading this book. the characters were believable and the developing relationship between Elyse and her forever friend Chad was awkward enough for me to relate to. A lot of information was dumped on the reader right at the start and more kept coming. Kept my interest for the whole book.

Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I had a very hard time putting down Immortal Slumber to do things like eat and sleep. Elyse makes a captivating protagonist, and her interactions with her supporting characters are genuine and believable. The curveballs keep you from being able to guess precisely what's going to happen at any given time. I'm eager to find out what happens next, and I'm curious to know more about Elyse's family and their intentions.

The author has a very vivid imagination. She can see each and every detail of location, dialogue, and action with complete clarity. Because of this, the book sometimes has a Joycean stream-of-consciousness feel. I would recommend it to Gen-X and -Y women who love (and miss) the tv show Charmed. I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. It is autographed.

Wow, this book wasn't what I expected. The only YA I ever read is paranormal and I'm glad I read this one. Midway through, I was enthralled and couldn't put it down. I literally finished it the same day.

It's hard enough to be a teen in this day and age, but to then find out that you harbor a big secret you didn't even know about is mind blowing. This character handled it better than anticipated and in doing so, showed that she was born to be a true leader.

Kudos to the author as I now look forward to reading book 2.

Fun, urban fantasy!

A lot of novels in this genre often depict characters that are reluctant to embrace their powers; this one didn't and I feel it sets it apart quite a bit. Who hasn't fantasized about having the powers of a witch, warlock, or some supernatural being??!! So often, novels in this genre depict a teenager who is unwilling to accept their powers, fights against their destiny, and whines about the troubles to that one friend who shares their secret. The main character in this story doesn't. She's willing to accept her powers, if somewhat confused at first, but quickly transitions without the long, drawn out, angst ridden scenes and monologues. Yes, she has teenage troubles, but she's a teenager so... And, although willing to accept her power and destiny, the path to receiving those powers leads her and her friends on a path of discovery and tribulation. I do have one minor complaint about the story. In parts of the novel I felt as if the story had been over-edited or perhaps rushed but, either way, it seemed as though the authors voice changed and wasn't her own. It's subtle, but noticeable upon occasion. One of the things I REALLY enjoyed about this author's writing was the ability to infuse her dialogue with small details that showed what was affecting her characters at any time without over telling the story. I gave it five stars because it was a unique, fun, satisfying read that ended with me looking forward to the next book.

Turning 18 is a huge milestone for the average teenager but even more so for Elyse Crawford who also finds out that she is a witch. With the help of her friends, she learns about who she is, information about her birth family, and how to deal with the twist her life has suddenly taken.

Magic, witchcraft, and drama are high in this book and I love it! The pace was fast, very high energy and no dragging spots made this book fun to read. I loved the characters and how they related to each other. Overall, I'm a huge fan of the book and I cannot wait until the second book is out in the series.

I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This in no way effects my opinion as my opinion is my own.

WOW!! I'm not sure anything I have to say will do this book justice but I will try. I wish that I could give this book more than 5 stars. It's very rare that you find a book to captivate you so intensley that the world around you fades away. That is exactly what I found when I began reading Immortal Slumber!!! I was so enthralled with the storyline and charaters that I forgot the world around me. All I could concntrate on was finding out what was going to happen next. I enjoyed every moment I spent on the edge of my seat!. I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2. I very highly recommend purchasing and reading Immortal Slumber.

Immortal Slumber by S.L. Perrine is Elyse's journey to discover who and what she really is. Turning eighteen is an exciting experience for most. For Elyse, it’s life-changing. This magical story is very well written, the storyline well thought out. This is the first novel I’ve read by this author but it won’t be the last! As I lay here in bed, sick, I am swept away into this action packed YA paranormal; not able to put it down and thankful to be given this reprieve. As I was so immersed in the story, my mind was taken off of how icky I’d felt. Lovely fellow bibliophiles, I absolutely recommend you take the time to read this series. I’m jumping into book two immediately!

I loved this story!! The main characters are just turning 18, so of course they use slang! The use of 'rents for parents really took me back to my high school days. I think for a group of 18 year olds, they worked together really well, and showed they could withstand hard work. I was confused at the end. Introductions were made between Elyse and her father's coven, but she didn't have a reaction to one name. This one person showed that he was not on her side, but he was there to help her at the end of the story. I can't wait for the second book to see if she remembers him, and how her coven works together!

The story keeps getting better and better. Through Blood Rites 1 and 2 and now Immortal Slumber we have seen three generations of witches, warlocks, and shifters. AMAZING!!! I have fallen in love with S.L. Perrine's world and her characters, innocent, sweet, evil, vindictive...you name it. There are so many layers to these characters twisted into a story line that has your heart racing, your mind swirling and your soul wanting more.
