A Mafia Romance

Dangerous and feared.

Those words describe my future husband. Who just so happens to also be my ex-boyfriend.

It’s complicated. Two years ago, he broke my heart when he left me to do his father’s bidding. After months of crying, I finally accepted he was gone and wasn’t going to look back. That maybe he’d never loved me at all. I never wanted to see Luca again.

Now a cruel twist of fate has signed me over to him in a heartless deal. I’m his. He thinks he did me a favor, but I feel like I’ve been given a death sentence. He doesn't want to get married because he still loves me. No, he did it for money. More power.

I’m going to be a mafia wife. And there’s only one way out of it. Death.

But as it turns out, someone else doesn’t want me to marry the ruthless Luca Bianchi. And if he has his way, I’ll see that early grave.

Due to mature content and themes this book is recommended for readers aged eighteen and over. Code of Silence is an arranged marriage and a complete standalone. This novel may contain triggers.

Abusive relationship between MC and FC. No man is worth your self respect and dignity. The more the MC was verbally abusive to her the wetter she got. He would slammed her against the wall, pulled her hair hard. Made her cry. He would say horrible things and she was like damn puppy looking to be pet.
It’s really sad how many readers think this is romantic. I’ve read many reviews that have tried to justify their love for dark romance and they’d say, just because they like this type of fiction doesn’t mean they accept it IRL. I got news for you, you really are accepting this type of behavior and abuse because this is not far off from real life.

“Men respect a man who knows how to control a bitch.”

“I’ll tell you what.” He lowers his lips to my ear, and I hold my breath. “How about you fall to your knees and suck my dick to try to keep me faithful?”

“Luca controls me. I’m his puppet. His toy.”

“You will give me as many children as I want. You were born to fucking breed, and that’s exactly what you will do.

“Women in my family aren’t supposed to have a brain.”

“You see, Haven, we all play a role in this life, and a woman is very useful if she knows her place.”

“I need to be reminded that I’m his. It’s pathetic and completely wrong, but that’s us. Nothing about our lives has ever been clear. Or morally right.”

This was just couple of the things he’d said to her. He also makes her believe that he cheated on her with a woman. She saw a girl come out of his office and saw him trying to pull his zipper up (He wasn’t cheating, but this is besides the point) nothing say “I love you” like making your fiancé believe that you cheated on her just to get her to admit that she loves you.

And since i am that petty, I flipped all the way to the first page because I heard authors don’t get paid on KU if you flipped to the beginning without finishing the book. So what, Sued me

“𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯.”

These sentences are spoken by the mmc himself. Blatant misogyny being sold as romance.

This book glorifies physical abuse. The mmc slammed her against the wall, causing her eyes to tear up (not in a sexual sense). He also proceeded to squeeze her arms tightly enough to leave bruises and marks. Further, he has the audacity to claim he's not abusive since he never slapped her. Well, Mr. Uneducated sir, physical abuse takes many forms. Update your patriarchal mind, will you?

It's totally my fault for choosing this book. I read two books by this author last week, and both were flops. Yet I still chose to give this author another chance because I read the ritual two years ago and liked it so much, so I keep returning to her in the hopes that she will offer a dark romance as good as the ritual. At least close. But, after three consecutive flops, I've lost hope. For good this time.

Luca and Haven were in love and headed towards their happily ever after when Luca disappeared out of nowhere leaving Haven heartbroken and devastated. Years later,
Haven returns home from a run surprised to find that she's been sold by her father to the person she hates and loves more than anything in the world.

Haven's hurt and furious, wanting nothing to do with the man that abandoned her all those years ago. Unfortunately for her, her resistance is futile. Luca never wanted to leave Haven in the first place, and now that he has her back, he's never going to let her go.

Code of Silence is an action-packed, dark mafia romance that kept me entertained from beginning to end. Luca and Haven have an obvious connection that time did nothing to destroy. I enjoyed the flashbacks that provided more of their backstory and one hot af steamy scene that I'll not soon forget!

Shantel Tessier knows how to bring the blood, sex, and violence! That's why it comes as no surprise to me that aside from the notable sexual encounter, the gory scenes were the highlight of the story for me! The gruesome detail of it all made my dark little heart happy.

As much as I liked Luca and Haven as a couple, the side characters stole the show as far as I'm concerned. I was supposed to be focused on the story in front of me, but all I kept thinking about were the stories to come. The Kings, Emilee, and Nite were by far more intriguing characters, and I couldn't be more excited to get their books in the future!

Wow! I’m speechless!

I freaking loved this book!!! It’s dark, twisted, shuddering, awful, sexy, fantastic as hell!!!

I read this book in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down.

Luca, son of a Mafia Boss, is born and raised into the Mafia life no matter what. He meets Haven in college, her being two years younger than him. They fall in love, even tho she knows / suspects what he’s doing.
After he left her and broke her heart, she’s finally getting her life together Luca comes back. With a marriage contract. She finally gets what she always wanted, right? Or not?!

Another perfect book by Shantel Tessier. She keeps you captured from the first page with a bang until the very end. She describes certain scenarios that leave you cringing and shuddering, but you have the urge to keep reading! The bed scenes are off the chart hot and have you melting into a puddle, lol.
All in all, if you are a lover of mafia romance books, this is definitely a MUST READ!!!

All the stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me and can’t wait for the Kings’ books!!!

I kindly received an arc from the author and voluntarily left a review

I really struggled with the FMC in this one. She checked all the boxes of the type of FMC I DON'T CARE FOR. Whiny-dumb-spoiled-ungrateful brat and undeserving of the MMC. She’s forced to marry her ex (the mmc) and barely resists before opening her legs halfway through the book to the guy she supposedly hates. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. I almost DNF’d it, but I kept going because of the Dark Kings and Luca. I feel that this probably would’ve worked better as a novella or a prequel because the whole plot felt like a setup for the Dark Kings and their Kingdom. But knowing Shantel's writing style, it probably has its purpose. Even though I haven't read the books on the Dark Kings, their presence in this book made me want to know their stories. Also, I don't know what Luca sees in Haven besides the fact she’s pretty and good at giving heads. Her ONLY redeeming quality is her friendship with Jasmine. The smut? Mediocre. Not quite a dark romance for me. The only dark thing in this is the violence and action scenes, its quite graphic how they 'eliminate' people. The romance part? Ehh.. Just no. Despite everything, I’m still excited to check out the rest of the series but I'm putting it on hold and will return to it later.

p/s: I read this for Dark Erotica September Buddy Read 🖤🖤

It's too repetitive: heroine gets upset, walks away, someone grabs her arm, and then she cries. I can't even count how many times that happened. It's practically the whole book. And the heroine cried. all. the. time.
The characters fell flat for me too. I kept getting the Kings mixed up, all the "bad" guys were all the same (literally. The only difference were there names), and I didn't understand the purpose of a few secondary characters like the brother. Matteo or something. I can't even remember his name. He was in the book in the beginning then just disappeared towards the middle. Never to be heard from again. There were also a few plot holes that I couldn't get around, but I can't get into it without being spoilery. Also, the heroine suffered from oblivious-to-facts-staring-in-her-face syndrome. It's quite dangerous. It almost cost her her life.
I was planning on reading the DK series, but now, I'm not so sure...

Have you ever read a mafia romance and wondered- where is the gritty, bloody, intense mafia scenes?
Well , Shantel Tessier did not disappoint and delivers the vivid mafia scenes and so much more with Code of Silence!
Chapter one hooks you (bear trap) and doesn’t let go till the last page.

Luca Bianchi is the son of the Mafia Don and is loyal to this life.
Haven has been in love with him since young and now that they are together and in college she wants him to leave the life of danger.
Luca can’t and won’t as death is the only way out.
“I’m a Bianchi, and the Bianchis live and die by the code.”
He instead leaves Las Vegas for Sicily for 4 years and Haven heartbroken.
Luca returns with a contract for marriage with Haven who now hates him.

This story is a Tug of war of emotions. It is intense, twisty, gripping, funny, steamy, and complex. Mafia bosses at war, loyalties and love are tested.

Luca is the mafia alphahole you love to hate. He not only hurts those that betray him but also protects those he loves.
Haven is naive but feisty which helps her as she is thrust into this mafia world.
“You can’t raise hell with a saint, darling.”
I loved the side characters including Lucas right hand man Nite and Havens girlfriends, Jasmine and Em.

Shantel built this amazing new world that also introduced us to the Four Dark kings that work with Luca and also have their own Kingdom.
“The Dark Kings are known for many things—and tolerance is not one of them. You betray them; they kill your ass. No questions asked. Just like us.”
I am so intrigued by them and Can’t wait for their books.

This is a must read for lovers of mafia.
Code of Silence will have you on edge and anxiously turning the pages.

description

“I will love you 'til the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you'll remember that you're mine
Baby can you see through the tears?
Love you more
Than those bitches before.”

Blue Jeans – Lana Del Rey

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
In another episode of misogynistic mafia families (I say this about ALL mafia books!): HAVEN used to date LUCA. He had “big dreams, gangster” as Lana Del Rey so gloomily sings in Blue Jeans and he had to “leave to start [his] life over.” Haven was abandoned and heart-broken, for Luca was hot, hot, hotter and simultaneously, the love of her life. Two years later, he’s back with a filthy contract and a ring for Haven, but this man isn’t kneeling for anyone these days.

This was my first Shantel Tessier book. I hereby announce that Shantel Tessier joins the ranks of JM Darhower in my top 5 Mafia Queen Writers Hall of Fame. This book isn’t just steamy, it’s captivating and FILTHY. You heard me. FILTHY. Hot. Haven is one hell of a lead female character. I relate to her in every way, except the freaking Louis Vuitton luggage set, that was a step too far for me.
I usually find it horrid when authors skip back in time in every chapter, but SHEESH, this book changed my opinion on that really quick. Those time jump scenes were EVERYTHING. Shantel Tessier fantastically builds up the world of Code of Silence, not making it feel like a blatant build-up at all. The characters were all introduced in a remarkably smooth way and now, I want to read about Nite, BONES, Grave, Titan… EVERYONE.
To me, mafia books aren’t about extraordinarily hot sex scenes. Whenever I read a mafia novel, I expect twists, suspense, mystery, murders, blood, tons of crime… All of that’s included. And to top it all off? SEX SCENES FOR DAYS. Code of Silence had some of the steamiest sex scenes that I’ve read in a while.
I couldn’t put this book down. Twist after twist (magnificent twists btw, I didn’t see them coming and I usually see them twists from miles away), I clutched on to the pages and I didn’t stop reading until I was finished with the book. The last sentence of the Epilogue had me with chills down my spine, especially since you grow to love the characters throughout the book and it's a gut-stab, reminding the reader of the stakes in that sort of life.

This is one of those books that has great potential, starts of great but then somewhere along the way it just goes downhill.

Luca and Haven are college sweethearts, until Haven’s senior year Luca leaves her.

Now a few years later Luca is back and wants Haven to be his wife.
Havens father basically sells her off for money and forces her to sign a marriage contract.

She first resists Luca because she still hates him for leaving her but you all know that hero’s have magic dicks and lips and once they use them on the MG she loses all her fight and submits. Because who doesn’t want a magic dick right?

Luca, honestly I really liked him. He really did love Haven. Everything he did was for her. Yes he sounded cocky at first but you know actions speed louder than words. My English teacher would be proud of me right now. Hope so.

Haven at first I really did like her. She was holding her ground and resisting Luca. But then once she got the magic dick idk what happened to her. I went to liking her to tolerating her to getting annoyed at her dumb actions towards the end.

I really wanted to like this book. It had such a good plot. And Luca and Haven in college were AMAZING. Idk what happened to them. 🙄

Luca, you are not a master manipulator or anything you think you are, you are just a big BITCH💀

You are a whole grown ass man, you are playing games with the woman you are SO in love with, acting like you cheated on your ENGAGEMENT PARTY to test her "love" for you? Are you fucking dumb?

“I’ll tell you what.” He lowers his lips to my ear, and I hold my breath. “How about you fall to your knees and suck my dick to try to keep me faithful?”

She finds (the FMC) a used condom in the trash, after seeing Luca and some random woman exit that room, you know what he says?

A smirk grows across his face as if this is some kind of joke. “I left you a present.” He goes to reach into his unzipped slacks. “I know how much you like to lick me clean.”

First of all Luca, fucking end your life, second of all, if you test her love with this, SHE IS GOING TO HATE YOU. But the FMC did not cuz she is DUMB.

And in the past, the FMC watches her own best friend give head to some guy, gets horny by it, Luca fingers her while they watch her best friend get railed, and then they fuck in front of them. I wanted to die.

“Do you like watching him use her?” Luca whispers hoarsely in my ear. I nod, unable to speak. He chuckles. “You’re so wet, Haven. Watching your best friend on her knees while I finger you turns you on.”

He grips a handful of hair and yanks my head back. “Watch him fuck her while I fuck you.” His legs spread mine farther apart, making my thighs burn.

I am getting LOSER CUCK vibes from him, nope.

HOLY BLUE BLAZES!! I have the sudden desire to become the arranged wife of a mafiaoso! Luca is strait up licious!😋 Haven is gorgeous and sassy. But she’s been brewing so much anger at him she remains caught between toeing the line of loathing him and loving him while he can’t decide whether to make her bend to his will or just bend her over his desk. This fantastic book packs punch after punch to keep you on the edge wondering WTF is happening?!?! This book has it all. Really let’s just call this a “ménage à genre” because it has elements of many amazing genres all in one. All of my favorites y’all!! Right here in this perfect package of a book that you won’t be able to put down until you have devoured every single word!! Shantel Tessier left me sweatin’ it out in Sin City in shock and awe, chapter after chapter! I was blown away, breathless and then hot and panting. In.the.hottest.flippin.way!!

Luca Bianchi was Las Vegas Mafia Royalty, with plans to be the Mafia King one day. Be bigger, greater and more powerful than his father. Haven had always had his heart, but he was forced to make decisions that were difficult to protect those he loved the most in the world. He broke her heart and left her devastated only to return two years later with a plan. He decides that he is going to make her his wife. He wants to ensure that all the plans for the future they talked about when they were in college will be carried out whether she likes it or not. He had his reasons for wanting things this way. I loved, loved, loved Luca’s character. 😍 You know those frustratingly sinful ones you really want to hate, but love em’ anyway? You start out semi-despising them?! That’s him. He is unapologetic for who he is and he’s alpha! He’s dangerous and borderline cruel to Haven at times to punish her for her disobedience and for not just accepting things as he’s said they are going to be. He wants to own her in every way, and he will!

Haven’s character is amazing. I love the fight in her and she is gonna fight him every step of the way because of the hurt he caused when he left her. She knows he’s hiding things from her and she also knows he thinks her life could be in jeopardy just by being with him, but she thinks her death warrant was signed anyway when he took her to be his wife. So what’s she got to lose, right? She may know she has no say in what happens to her, but she sure isn’t going to make it easy on him. I loved that she was a kickin’ character and a risk taker and had no problem popping off at the mouth at Luca. She wasn’t going down without a fight. Everyone knows there is only one way out of a Mafia marriage and it ain’t a divorce.

My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book! -⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-GAAHHH!! All the amazing secondary characters and I’m hooked and can’t wait for all the King’s books. Shantel gives just enough backstory on each of these bad boys that I’m dying for their stories. I.Can’t.Even!! Can one die of anticipation?!?! BTW, I want them all. Every Sinfully Sexy one of them. I’m not choosing so I’m laying it out there now that I’m an unashamed dirty girl and they are all MINE!
All the Stars in the Sky for this book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥- GAH!! Words are failing me here my friends, which doesn’t happen often. But yeah!! Hot Smokin’ Hell!
🌪Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger! However, Shantel Tessier has set us up for all the King’s books and I cannot wait!!
🔫 Trigger Warning-This book does have some scenes that could be considered triggers for some, but what you would expect from a Mafia Romance. They are fairly graphic. If you have concerns you can PM for more information.

Code of Silence by Shantel Tessier is a twisted and intense mafia romance filled with violent emotions, breathtaking suspense and fascinating characters. The mesmerizing words filled the story with unthinkable twists, soul deep feelings and raw passion. A brilliantly crafted, mindblowingly dark and gritty mafia romance!

Haven and Luca has been soul mates since very early in their lives. But young love is not always enough. Luca Bianchi is the son of most feared mafia in Las Vegas and he has to fulfill certain expectations. Even it means breaking Haven's heart into tiny pieces. Now years later he is back. And he is no longer the guy Haven once loved. He is dark, twisted, volatile, cruel, arrogant and hurtful without remorse. And Haven has been sold to him by her father. What will happen next? Is Luca really the monster or does he have secrets? Will Haven find out some ground-breaking truths about her own life?

This story has secrets and twists in every freaking chapter. I was literally holding my breath in anticipation of next shocking revelation. The author expertly depicts the horrors and explosive details of blood stained Mafia world. Where money, power, corruption, crime and kill-or-die games play out everyday. And it runs parallel with the tension filled story of Haven and Luca. Luca is the guy you would want to love, hate, kill, kiss, own and to be owned by at the same time. And Haven is his perfect partner. She has nerves of steel and compassionate heart. Life is throwing so many unexpected challenges at her and she is facing them boldly. She is a flawed, impassioned, beautiful, sassy and all over amazing woman. Their chemistry is scorching hot. They love like they are trying to kill each other with the intensity. It's not pretty or perfect. It is chaotic. It is messed up. It is dirty, heartbreaking, bone deep and defying everything. It is aggresive, savage and sometimes bordering on downright vicious hate. And this kind of angsty darkness is something Shantel Tessier can do best and makes you crave more.

Code of Silence by Shantel Tessier was pure perfection. The scintillating tension between Haven and Luca kept me glued to the pages along with the nail biting suspense of Mafia power plays! A must read romance of 2020.

I really did not enjoy this. This is probably actually 1.5 stars but there is so much that I didn't like that I don't want to round up.

As I wrote this in my kindle notes, I like dark romances and I don't mind stories where the main guy would actually be a bad person if he really existed. However, if that is the kind of story we're going for, I still need the main guy to respect and genuinely care for his love interest. It was clear to me that Luca had no respect for Haven. Some of the things he said to her were incredibly misogynistic and mean-spirited (please see my kindle highlights for some examples and more of my thoughts I had while reading). He would talk about how he wanted to have a marriage that was different from his parents and how he didn't want to treat Haven like a toy and then he would tell her all about how she was meant for breeding.

Haven frankly, was not any less annoying. She was stuck up and whiny. She was trapped in a bad situation and I do think Luca was the worse party in the relationship but goodness gracious was she frustrating. She acted like a petulant child even though she was 24. She was supposed to be the one I could sympathize with in this story because she was the one that got sold into marriage but she made it so hard to feel bad for her.

Really this is one of those relationships that I talk about in a lot of my reviews where the relationship is so unhealthy at the beginning that I can't see it ever being healthy. I think that is somewhat to be expected with a dark romance but I think there is a line between sexy, semi-unhealthy relationships where both parties end up improving each other and a genuinely dark, unsexy, unhealthy relationship where both parties give nothing to the other and end up actually hurting each other.

I am not opposed to mafia romances and I would probably read more in the future but this book was not for me which is really unfortunate.

Holy smokes! This book... I am not a fan of mafia romance. Not at all. But I never turn down the chance to read a book by Shantel Tessier. Her words are like pure gold to me, and she may have just changed my stance on this trope. Code of Silence is dark, twisted and absolutely phenomenal!

Luca Bianchi was born into the mafia, so he is well acquainted with the dark aspects of this world. In fact, he is just as cold, controlling and ruthless as the rest of them. Whatever he wants he gets, and what is he wants is Haven Knowles. Two years ago, he left her behind without so much as a simple goodbye. She was completely heartbroken as she thought he was the love of her life. But now he's back with a contract in hand, making her his soon-to-be-wife. What he doesn't know, is she is not the same love sick girl that she was before. She is furious and will not just lie down and roll over.

Code of Silence is definitely one of my top reads of the year. Tessier has once again delivered us a book full of violence, darkness and twists and turns galore. My anticipation grew more and more with each turn of the page. And trust me when I say, you will be left shocked and surprised as things unfold and the truth finally comes to light. This dark and delicious tale is everything and more. 5 stars for Luca, Haven and Code of Silence.

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: second chance
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Code of Silence is a super fast paced, action-packed ride from page one! Definitely on the dark and grittier side with smexy scenes so hot they're going to set your kindle on fire, lol! Heroine in this one is definitely not my fave, I found her to be frequently on the annoying side and wanted to slap her once or twice, lol. Overall, though, still a good, quick read that sets both the stage and the tone of the Dark Kingdom series.

2 STARS w/ the reread

This was a reread because I had a friend that wanted to buddy read the series, NO THANKS. The first half or so wasn’t too terribly bad, but what started to frustrate the crap out of me was that that it was OBVIOUS what was going on, and it could’ve been cleared up with one conversation with Haven, but it went on for way too long.

Luca's actions made ZERO sense other than to prolong an unneeded conflict.

And don’t get me started on how insufferable Haven was. When she wasn’t being incredibly stupid, she was pouting and throwing fits at the people that were bending over backwards to keep her ungrateful ass alive. Seriously, I live in a small town with no crime and

and she’s married to the MOB with someone trying to kill them!! Then she’s all like “I’ve made a grave mistake” Ya think? Then she feels stupid, but not too stupid because she does it AGAIN, even her slutty friend knew better and tried to talk her out of it, but nope, Haven knows best. Then she immediately realizes she’s once again screwed up and needs everyone else to risk their lives to rescue her. Outside of this she’s walking into meetings, smirking, acting cool as shit which would work if she were smart and brave. Ugh.

****Original Review****

Code of Silence is a dark, twisty, violent, mafia romance free to read with KU. This is not your typical romance; it’s dark, obsessive, lust/love between borderline psychopaths. The men are not nice guys; they are rough and bossy, and the females love it. So, if you do not like the mafia genre (violence, alpha chauvinist, submissive females, graphic sex), are offended easily, or need romance…skip this one. You’ll be offended and hate it.

With that said, Luca does not physically abuse Haven, nor is there cheating. There isn’t any OW drama. **A couple of scenes are misleading and may make you pissed but hold on.**

This is a short read; (just over 200) it moved quickly and kept me interested enough to devour in one sitting. The writing is good, but the shorter length didn’t allow for anything very deep. The characters are flatish; the conflicts are created mostly by Haven's stupidity, but it moves on and ends before you have time to get really annoyed. I actually think the author might have released this to serve more as a prequel novella to introduce the characters and world of her upcoming series the Dark Kings.

Bottom line- If you like the genre and are wanting a quick entertaining real. Give it a shot.

If you love Mafia romances with a second chance at a happily ever after, then Code of Silence is DEFINITELY for you. It’s intense, it’s dark, it’s raw feelings, and amazing supporting characters.

Born to the Don of the Italian-American Mafia outfit in Las Vegas, Luca Bianchi has known what the expectations of his life are from a very young age. But the one thing that he had for himself was Haven Knowles. The love that Haven has for Luca is soul deep, it’s passionate and all encompassing. She knows who he is, who his father is. It doesn’t matter to her though because all she wants is Luca, to keep him safe. But Luca knows his familial obligations come first and he has to do the last thing he’s ever wanted to do... break Haven’s heart.

Years later, just as Haven is finally starting to move on from the heartbreak left in Luca’s wake, he’s back and he’s come for his bride. But this isn’t the same Luca she knew; this one is dark, possessive, demanding, and cruel. He’s the shot caller now. But Haven won’t back down, she refuses to be a pawn in the games of men.

There are plenty of layers to this story, plenty of secrets that are buried deep. The twists and turns are never ending and when the truths finally come to light, you’re left reeling. Code of Silence has everything you want from a mafia romance, from power plays to acts of violence to money making to acts of deception. You’ll become so engrossed in this story that you won’t be able to put it down. Have I mentioned the steam, yet? Scorching hot. Luca and Haven will set your Kindle on fire with their messy, wild chemistry.

I loved Luca and Haven’s story. It was intense and chaotic, but also emotional and passionate. Their love held so strongly for the other, even if they didn’t want to admit or fought against it. It also has a wonderful cast of supporting characters too; Nite and Mia, Jasmine, and those delicious Dark Kings. I cannot wait to experience the Kingdom in all its glory or to see what happens during the Silent Nite.

Shantel Tessier killed it with Code of Silence, but it’s not like there was ever any doubt. A one-click author, she always brings her A game when delivering us dark tales with even darker alphas and their women. She gives us the angst, the emotion, and the darkness we crave and does so in spectacular fashion.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Uh, what the heck.

How dare this book end..

Honestly, it ended just like that. It was THAT good. I was completely engrossed and all of a sudden I see that it's come to an end. Yep, I am saying that a lot.

This reader dilemma of wanting to devour the book yet not wanting it to end is such a pain..

Anyhoo..

My first ever Shantel Tessier book and I was oh so lucky to get an ARC because when I read that blurb..

You best believe I devoured this baby.

So, Luca and Haven.. They already have a strong, established relationship but due to some unfortunate circumstances, life happens.. But Luca is back with a determination.. To marry Haven and nothing will stand in his way.
Haven is heartbroken and felt betrayed but as the reality unfolds infront of her she realizes that what Luca did, he had to for things aren't what they seem.

This story was definitely engaging.. And I adored Mia and Nite. Oh Nite oh Nite..

The plot was good, the writing flowed and honestly I fell in sync with the characters as the story began. And once you get in the flow.. It's all pretty good from then on.

Hold please, while I go die until Spring time! Let me just start by saying this book had me from page 1! I haven’t read a book this fast in a long time but I could not put it down. At. All! It was EVERYTHING! When I read what Code of Silence was gonna intel I was honestly expecting just your typical arranged marriage mafia romance. This is not that! I loved this take on mafia/arranged marriage! Absolute perfection!

Now on to the characters! I’m not usually big on the heroine who cries a lot. But the way Shantel wrote Haven’s scenes, every-time she cried. I wanted to cry. I felt it that much! Every time Luca yelled. I felt it. I could visualize every single part of this book like I was literally watching it on TV. That’s so hard to come by for me. And don’t get me started on those yummy scenes!!! Talk about panty melting! Please excuse me while I go take a cold shower then soak in a tub full of ice bc I need it after those scenes!!!

I definitely started 2020 off right with Code of Silence! I can’t wait to dive deeper into this world!!! Bring on the Kings and definitely give me more Nite!!!! I. Need. Them. All!!!!

So yeah! I had no doubts Shantel Tessier was gonna give us another amazing read but she knocked this book out the park! It’s absolute perfection! Go read this book! Like. NOW!

Powerfully addictive, left me hungry for more!! I absolutely cannot wait for the books stemming from this one!! Mafia Romance at it's best! It was exciting, thrilling, the tension was off the charts, and surprises were jaw dropping!! I inhaled every word and couldn't put it down!! Off the charts Alphas that will make you swoon!! The world that the Author created is so vivid and decadent, you won't want to leave!! Highly recommend!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

Reread! I loved this story... Oh can't wait til Nite's story!

"She stands and walks over to me. “Then we’ll leave together.” She gives me a soft smile. “We’re ride or die bitches. You go, and I go.”"

Drama galore!

This book was about a very dark and dangerous mafia hero or should I say anti-hero named Luca Bianchi and his fierce lady love, Haven Nicole Knowles! Did Luca grovel much to get Haven back after he literally abandoned her then walked back into her life after four long absent years with a marriage contract? Well not like most heroes but you have to read this jewel to see how Luca and Haven got their love back! Great secondary characters that you will continue to laugh at or say oh no to.

"He gives me a smile that makes the hairs on my neck stand. He opens his hand and slides it into my hair, tilting my head back in the process. I hold my breath as he bends down and whispers in my ear, “This is all my doing, Haven. Make no mistake about that. I wanted you, and now I have you. Today, tomorrow, forever.” He kisses my forehead gently. When he pulls away, I feel another tear fall. His dark eyes watch it without any remorse. “Get in the shower. You smell like cigarette smoke. And Mrs. Brown will be here in an hour to help you get ready.” With that, he exits the closet."

“What do you expect?” He growls. “For me to live on the straight and narrow?” He cups my face with his free hand. “I love you, Haven. Always have. Always will. I won’t sit here and apologize for finding a way to get you. And if that means I get to make a little money in the meantime, then so be it.”

This author, Mrs. Shantel Tessier is one of my best discovery this year!

I love this book! I couldn’t put it down!
Luca. Luca. Luca. His dirty mouth and the fact that he’s ruthless, yet still good... ugh I love him. I mean just his name alone... I love Haven too. My heart hurt for her most of this book, but I rooted for them every step of the way!!

Such a great read. If you love mafia romances then definitely pick this book up!! I could read so much more of them and I’m so glad we get more in this world!

Shantel Tessier writes addicting stories. For that reason I was excited to read Code of Silence. Everyone knows mafia is my crack. But this story was a little bit of a mixed bag for me as I did not really feel Luca and Haven's connection.

I enjoyed the story but I enjoy sassy heroines more. It felt like Haven kind of rolled with the life changes that were being made for her and cried vs. fighting back more and getting hers. I am the #1 lover of bully romances and alphahole heroes but what I love more than anything is sassy, strong and assertive heroines. I didn't find that here, unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong. This was a good story, but I would have loved more character development where I could have seen and felt more of a connection from them as a whole while also marveling at Haven's strength and badassery - A Queen to Luca's King. 3.5 stars! ~Ratula

Sadly she was not relatable at all. She acts childish, naive and has no backbone.

He is a toxic asshole but to be honest that‘s what I‘m here for (it‘s darkromance after all).

This was entertaining and a quick read. I had fun with this book although it‘s not per se a good book. The relationship is highly toxic, the plot is weak and the writing style is nothing special. But (!) it‘s an entertaining dark mafia romance with a red flag mmc and brutal/descriptive mafia scenes. Before reading I know this wouldn‘t be a literary masterpiece.
Haven and Luca are toxic. That‘s the only description worth their relationship. They love each other but due to heavy miscommunication they hurt one another constantly. I think it portrayed the real mafia life well and it’s not as romantizised as in other dark romance books. Still I wish we got more of the cute scenes between Haven and Luca because it‘s a romance books regardless.
All in all a good dark romance book and I will continue with the second book.
