Charms and Firearms is the 5th Book in the Mitzy Moon series by Trixie Silvertale.
I have really enjoyed the first 4 books in the series. I listened to the audbook by Coleen Marlo and she really brings the characters to life!

I absolutely love the characters in this book, especially Mitzi's ghostma and Piwackett the cat.

Mitzi comes across another body while away and she heads back to the bookstore to get help from her friends to discover one of them missing!

Mitzi has her hands filled with magic, romance and mystery.

The story was well written and the mystery was fantastic. I laughed out loud and like I said I really enjoyed the narrator!

Can't wait for the next book!

Another hilarious adventure with Mitzy Moon. This series is so much fun to read. The characters have big personalities and you can’t help but like them. The mystery is well crafted, fast paced, and full of surprises. I don’t want to spoil anything but there might just a new relationship in Mitzy’s life.

I listened to the audio version. The narrator does a fantastic job bring the story and the characters to life. You never have to guess which characters is speaking. She is great at showing all the emotions each character is feeling.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery about a young woman who believes she has no family but finds herself the heir to her grandmother’s fortune, including a bookstore in the great white north. Not only does she need to adjust to a climate completely foreign to her native Arizona, she also finds her grandmother’s ghost is still a resident of the store and adjacent penthouse.

This is not the first book in the series but I had no trouble settling into the small town with its quirky characters and zero wind chill. I love stories with a bit of magic involved and this one fit the bill.

Overall, this was a cute and funny novel with plenty of surprises to hold my attention. A quick read, but a good one.

ok, so at first it took me a minute to like the snarky attitude that is Mizty Moon. After a bit I did finally fall into the thrall of this Cozy Mystery. I will definitely be listening/ or reading more. this was the first book I have read/ listened to in the series. Can't wait to find out what happens in the first 4 books!

Our snarky heroine with a quick wit and running dialogue, mostly in her head, is back in the middle of a murder when she once again falls into surprising snow bank. Creative characters draw you in and keep you chuckling as you once again fall prey to this author's writing and stay up way past your bedtime in order to finish the book! I can't wait to see what antics Mitzy and crew get into in the next book! FYI: If you are into audiobooks, this is an outstanding choice as the narrator does a positively wonderful job of bringing these creative characters to life!

I love this series so much. Every book is so interesting! In this one we learn more about Silas, who I find fascinating. I love Mitzy. I find her flirtations with Sheriff Erick Harper fun. Grams is funny and loving but Silas is the mystery guy. This book he plays a larger role and I’m loving it. He has intrigued me since I met him. I love his lessons to Mitzy. They are always interesting. In this book, though, we get to see more of his personality and wizard skills. Rory is back and Mitzy gets her eyes opened. We meet some new characters too. Brandy who owns a ski resort and a gypsy Anita Nowak who has a connection to Grams. This book is a page turner! There is a lot going on, including a murder and a theft. I can’t wait for the next book!
This book is perfect for those cozy mysteries lovers who enjoy a bit of paranormal. There is a ghost and lots of magic. If this is your cup of tea, then you need to read this series! While each book can be read alone, I would strongly suggest you read them in order. Mitzy has a lot of personal growth and you would miss all the ties that bind. It is all background story but I think knowing how it all unfolds is important to the series. It’s also a lot of fun.
I was given an ecopy of this book for review consideration. I reviewed the book voluntarily. My opinions are based on my feelings as I was reading.

I have read every book in this series thus far, and I have to say, I think it does get better each time. Not only do we get to know the characters' personalities better, but the story arcs are more engaging too.

What I appreciated about this book was Mitzy's character was not only expanding on her abilities, but she was really starting to become more self-sufficient. I mean, I think she will always need guidance from her ghost-ma and Silas, but I think she is starting to figure out the whole adulting thing. 🤣

I also loved that this book had not only a captivating plot, but it was deeper than some of the others in this series, and it allowed the reader to become more invested. I think this book started something that will continue into the next book, and it definitely left me wanting more.

Overall, even though these books could be read as standalones since the author does a good job of interjecting backstory into each book, I would definitely suggest reading them in order. I think that the story does build on each installment, and takes the reader for a riveting ride.

2020 bk 212. Mitzy is back. This book has a number of subplots going, a theft at the bookstore, Rory attempting to up his game with a weekend trip to a cross-country ski resort, mental illness rares its ugly head and the murder of one photojournalist has Mitzy and the Sheriff stumped. When Rory's true colors are revealed, Mitzy flies into action, putting herself in danger and Rory on notice. I believe I enjoyed this one the best of Silvertale's books thus far.

Fun, witty and full action. This 5th installment of the Mitzy Moon series was my favorites so far. I loved the mystery and the humor along with getting to see more of Mitzy’s life before she moved to Pin Cherry. I loved the emotions that I was made to feel while reading this story along with the fun moments of humor sprinkled throughout the story.

Loved it

This maybe my favorite in the series so far. I loved the completely unexpected twist that made this story a real page-turner. Some of the questions that's been in the series over the last several books are answered. I like that Mitzi's life seems to be coming together. I'm looking forward to reading more from this series.

This was a good read. I will admit that this is the only one in the series that I've read so far. Mitzy finds a dead body. With the help of her friends she is able to solve the murder. I did enjoy these characters and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Really good

Mitzy Moon gets embroiled in another murder. Rory Bombay is acting strangely, he gives her a bracelet that is not quite what it seems. With the help of Silas and her ghostly gran and not forgetting Pyewacket the cat every thing comes together. Well nearly.......

This series has definitely hit its stride! While each murder is solved within the book it’s introduced, there’s a second storyline that’s been running throughout the series and it continues to grow and change as the series progresses. Truly, it’s what makes me want to binge this series (too many other books I have to get through, sadly)! I will be reading these as soon as I can get to them. Highly recommended if you love cozies that push the bounds of the definition but start from the beginning and go in order.

This is the first book by this author I have read or listened to but it won't be my last. It is a fun, engaging mystery with wonderful characters and humours situations. I might have joined the series at book five but the author gives you enough background information that it is easy to follow along and you don't feel like you missed anything, other than some great books that I might just have to make a visit to. The characters are what made this book so magical and I liked the way they interacted with each other, there was of course the helpful interfering ghost, the mischievous cat and a love triangle. The magical element was interesting and I liked how it was used to solve the case and made things more complicated at the same time. Off to start from the beginning.
A silent auction to raise money for an animal shelter goes wrong When one of Mitzy rare books goes missing not long after event. The prime suspect invites her to join him for a weekend getaway and to learn how to cross ski. As they say keep your friends close but your enemies closer she decides to join him to find out what he is up to. A gift has her thinking that she might be wrong, until she returns back to the bookshop for help after discovering a body in the snow. But she doesn't find the help she needs as she is no longer able to understand her cat and her ghost gran is missing. Can Mitzy work out what is wrong with her powers? And find out who killed the mystery man? First she will have to work out who the dead man was and why everything seems to be connected to the run down ski lodge.
I liked the narrator. She help bring the story to life by giving each character there own unique and distinct voice.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Okay I mean it truly when I say this series seriously just gets better and better!! Each book improves on the one before.
Mitzy is really starting to find her feet, and feel at home in her Bookstore with the super secret super swanky apartment home, she has friends, and more importantly family, granted Grams may not be able to physically hug her, after all she is a ghost, but she can still help Mitzy (though she still needs to work on the whole "if my lips ain't moving, then it's not for sharing!" mind reading overshare!
In this visit to Pin Cherry Harbour we start with a Fundraiser which Mitzy is hosting in the Bookstore on behalf of her dad's girlfriend Amaryllis. Including a silent auction with all proceeds going to Pin Cherry Harbour Animal Shelter,
In the morning Mitzy discovers the book Saducismus Triumphatus, the very book that friend/mentor and lawyer Silas Willoughby was able to use to give Grams her Ghostly afterlife is missing. The book is not only worth a lot of money but in the wrong hands could be dangerous! Mitzy reports it to the Sheriff but we all know she won't be able to help herself but investigate herself.
And on the topic of investigating herself.... one of the suspects, Rory Bombay(who is an antique dealer and has asked about the book on numerous occasions as well as flirting with Mitzy) has invited Mitzy to join him on a weekend getaway at the Fox Mountain Ski Resort, (the very same weekend get away that she had been outbid for at the silent auction)
And so the fun begins! (Not THAT kind of fun! Mitzy insists on seperate rooms AND paying for herself) Lets just say Skiing does not go quite the way she planned, and her new burgeoning powers seem to be on the fritz just when she needs them the most! When her theft investigation goes from that to an old mystery and a very new murder!
I cannot tell you how much I recommend this book and series! I do highly recommend you start with the first book, for many reasons, one you get to know each of the characters just a little bit more with each book, each character grows a little more, but Mitzy the most, going from an orphan who was brought up in the foster system, a lonely low paid barista who was struggling to get through each day, to now being a loved family member, with a dad and gran, friends even, good friends from Twiggy who works for free in the bookstore, to budding investigative photojournalist Quince Knudsen. A fashionista with a wardrobe bigger than her old apartment and money in the bank not having to worry about paying the next bill.

Not only has Mitzy grown and the town of Pin Cherry Harbour but with each book Trixie Silvertale grows as an author, the books are well written with tight plots, each character comes to life as you read them, even the town comes alive, the mystery is always well thought out, with the occasional red herring, and clues you don't realise are clues till much farther into the book, I find myslef going, AAAaaa thats is why XYZ which some authors do well as is the case here but it can be done badly where it is obvious that what we are reading is a clue, so to be able to do so is very clever and excellent writing.

Though these books are classed as "Cosy Paranormal" if the "Paranormal" bit puts you off, I ask you to please give this a try, because the murders are solved using investigation rather than spells and such, It is such a good series it would be a shame to miss it!

After a charity event at the bookshop, Mitzy discover that the book that normally resides next to the secret entrance to her apartment is missing. She’s also upset because she was outbid by Rory Bombay for the ski weekend getaway at a local ski resort. She was looking forward to learning how to ski in “almost Canada”. She then finds out from Rory that he planned on asking her to be his plus one. After hashing out all the details, she agrees. Even knowing that he’d given her a cursed ring previously, she accepts a pretty charm bracelet from him while there. After her lesson, and subsequent clumsiness causes her to land face first into a body on a slope, she decides that she needs to discover who the body belongs to. He has no identification but has items on him that indicate that he’s a photographer. Rushing back to her place to ask for some help, she shockingly discovers that she can no longer understand Pyewacket, her Ghostma is nowhere to be found, and she has no connection with Silas. After finally figuring out what might be causing this blip in her psychic abilities, they’re able to get the bracelet off, and sure enough, the bracelet was blocking her. After a chat with everyone, she heads back to the resort and continues her weekend.
In this story, we’re introduced to the owner of the resort and given some of her sad backstory. The resort has gone downhill, and probably won’t be open much longer. The owner is an alcoholic who drinks most of the day away. Mitzy spent time with her, and even took her back to her cabin after she was too drunk to make it home by herself. But things aren’t what they seem and by the end of the story, we learn the truth about not only the murderer, but about Rory Bombay. Hopefully he is finally gone from Pin Cherry Harbor and Mitzy Moon’s life.
We’re now on book 5 and I’m still as addicted to the series as I was when I started book 1. Mitzy’s character keeps getting better, the writing keeps you coming back for more, I still love Ghostma and Pyewacket, and I can’t wait to see if Mitzy and Sheriff Erick end up together.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I read the first four books in this series, and I really enjoyed them, so I was happy to read this book when it was available.

Mitzy Moon seems to attract trouble. She has some psychic gifts, though, that she’s slowly learning to use. They can often get her out of trouble, and I’m curious what else she’ll be finding out she can do.

Mitzy finally has a family since she inherited her grandmother’s bookstore. She’s getting to know Grams in her ghostly form and is finally getting to know her father. The more Mitzy Moon books I read, the more I enjoy the characters. Mitzy is clumsy, smart, and hilarious. Grams is a force of nature and has learned to move things, so she’s now able to communicate via writing with Silas. Silas is Mitzy’s lawyer and mentor who is helping her learn about her gifts.

The one unlikeable character who has been in all of the books so far is Rory Bombay. Mitzy is attracted to him but Grams doesn’t trust him at all. I’m with Grams; I never liked him even when he was giving Mitzy gifts and pouring on the charm. Is it finally time for her to learn her lesson? And then there’s the hot sheriff. He and Mitzy would make the perfect couple…

When Mitzy literally stumbles across a body in the woods near a ski lodge, she’s warned by the sheriff to let the professionals look into it. She hasn’t done so thus far, so I’m sure he knows that won’t stop her snooping. Mitzy has her hands full between having her gifts locked, being locked in a basement, and running into a ghost that’s not Grams. Will she and/or the sheriff find out who the murderer is?

These books are quick and fun reads. Each book builds on the last ones and they’ve become must-reads for me. I definitely recommend Charms & Firearms, as well as the other books in the series. I can’t wait for the next Mitzy Moon mystery!

Rory or Erick?

Running a charity auction event through the bookshop to raise funds for the local animal shelter Mitzi discovers that the ancient tome, Saducismus Triumphatus, that sits beside the candle handle has disappeared.

Erick mocks her lightly when she reports it but the book isn't just valuable in monetary terms. It's the source Silas used to ensure that Mitzi can spend time with her grandmother despite her having passed on and in the wrong hands could prove dangerous indeed.

Their suspicion falls on erudite Rory Bombay who outbid Mitzi for the auction lot she wanted most, a trip to Fox Mountain. When he invites her along she decides to go and try to discover if he stole the book. He's utterly charming, presenting her with a beautiful personalised charm bracelet for her birthday, which no one else has remembered, he all but insists she wear.

They don't get very far into the trip before a body appears and Mitzi is once again deep in another investigation but this time she's finding it impossible to call on her powers.. an urgent escape to Pin Cherry Harbour when she's almost caught in the victims room and she can finally accept the truth but can they pin down the killer and find the Saducismus Triumphatus before it's whisked away for good?

Rory Bombay is back in Pin Cherry and he has invited Mitzy for a weekend ski break in the mountains, which she accepts even though her ghost ma and Silas are very wary of Rory. He gives her a beautiful charm bracelet which immediately mutes her clairvoyant powers but she does not realise this right away. Then as usual things start happening, it's uncanny how Mitzy seems to draw dead bodies to her, and her usual sleuthing talents are set to work. She just cannot stay away from trouble and is too curious for her own good. She returns to her home and divulges everything to her grandmother and to Silas who insists on teaching her how to take control of her gifts and responsibility for her newly awakened powers and thank goodness for doing this as he saves her life. This novel provides hilarious light and fun reading as usual. These mystery novels have really grown on me and I always feel that the latest story is the best so far, so I am really looking forward to Book 6 as I love the crazy heroine and the rest of the cast in Pin Cherry Harbor and the romance which is growing albeit it is taking its time.

Keep them coming, Trixie! I absolutely adore this series. Mitzy Moon is one of my favorite characters ever. She is snarky, clumsy, funny, loveable, and vulnerable.

In the fifth book in this series, Mitzy goes on a weekend ski trip with a companion. But if you have been reading the previous books in the series, you know that Mitzy seems to be a magnet for dead bodies. Sure enough, she falls into one during her first ski lesson. But this time, when she runs to Ghost-ma for advice, her ghostly grandmother is missing. Has Mitzy lost the supernatural powers she was just beginning to explore? What happens to make Mitzy say she feels like she is “in the middle of a Lord of the Rings-style battle between Gandalf and Saruman”? Will she make progress with either Sheriff Erick (aka Sheriff Too-Hot-to-Handle) or the mysterious Rory Bombay? Will Deputy Paulsen ever thaw a bit toward Mitzy?

The book is fun and full of action, the dialogue witty and snarky. Oh, and add a bit of romance. There is not a single character in the series that I do not have an emotional reaction to. I become more and more attached to the characters with each installment. Keep them coming!

Mitzy is back!   With Ghost-ma, and Silas, and Odell of course, as well as the "delicious specimen known as Sheriff Erick Harper".   There's trouble afoot in almost-Canada, aka Pin Cherry Harbor.  One of Grams' ancient "occult manuscripts" is missing, and Mitzy's just agreed to a weekend away with the "divine" Mr Bombay.  Her reason?  "A fact-finding mission to infiltrate the enemy."  What she finds instead is a hapless photographer's dead body.

Mitzy never fails to entertain in her insistence on "helping" the yummy Sheriff and getting to the solution.  And each time she gets there before I do, with a surprising revelation.  But this time, THIS TIME, I was so not prepared for the villain!

Silvertale's Pin Cherry Harbor is an almost magical place, populated with great people and not a small dose of magic.  Each time I return to almost-Canada, I feel welcomed, among friends.   And it's that feeling that keeps me coming back for the next installment.   You will too!

[Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.   This is my honest review, the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own. ]

This is my favorite paranormal cozy! The bookstore Bell, Book & Candle is amazing and you can’t get a more awesome familiar than Pyewacket, a caracal. Throw in an heiress with mysterious abilities and her ghostma and you have an unbeatable series!

Trixie still can’t seem to catch Sheriff Erick’s eye except as a suspect in numerous crimes from murder to illegally infiltrating the high school. But Rory’s interest in her is heating up. In fact after a charity event she hosts, he invites Trixie on a weekend getaway at a nearby ski resort.

Because a very rare book is stolen from the rare books loft, a book Rory has expressed interest in more than once, Trixie accepts. Why not combine a little sleuthing with pleasure? But on her first venture out learning cross country skiing, Trixie stumbles, literally, across a body. The jurisdiction happens to belong to her favorite sheriff. Hopefully she won’t be accused of this murder!

Of course Trixie can’t help but launch a little investigation of her own! What sort of trouble will she find herself in this time?

Another winner for Trixie and her wonderful gang
in Pin Cherry Harbor! Mitzy’s perchance for being
uncoordinated exposes a dead body but along the way saves the day as well! For those of us who aren’t
too well coordinated ourselves she is our hero in more ways than one!

I absolutely love this series (as all her fans and readers do) and I can’t wait to see what happens next. If you haven’t yet read or heard of Trixie now is the time to remedy that situation! I can guarantee that once you’ve read Fries and Alibis you will be hooked! Mitzy, her Ghost Grams and Pyewacket will win you over! You’ll have read the book so fast you’ll wonder just where the time went!

Trixie’s writing is a joy to her readers! The fun and the
Inevitable nosing around will delight you as you go from one case to the next!

Pick up the first book today because you won’t want to miss any of the fun and scrapes Mitzy gets into!

Mitzy is looking forward to a weekend away with Rory Bombay. What should have been a fun weekend learning to cross-country ski, becomes a murder mystery when poor Mitzy quite literally falls near a body. Solving the mystery, figuring out what is making her newfound powers go on the fritz, learning to be more self-sufficient, and getting closer to Silas, Ghost-ma, and Erick are enough to keep Mitzy hopping. And let's not forget the wonderful and seemingly prescient caracal, Pyewacket - he makes plenty of feline demands on Mitzy.
Charms and Firearms is the strongest story yet in a really fantastic series. I love the development of the characters. The plot is really moved along in this book - in a super satisfying way, too! Trixie Silvertale skillfully balances meeting the needs of readers who are intimately familiar with the series and those of readers who are picking it up for the first time.
I highly, highly recommend the entire Mitzy Moon series!

I loved this book!! It’s the fifth book in the series, but I feel you can read anyone of them and still understand the characters. The author does a great job of giving enough background information on the characters to understand how they fit into the story, but not too much to take away from what’s going on in the book. I do, however, recommend reading all of them to get the full story and build up of characters and their relationships. You won’t regret it. I am somewhat attached to a few characters and can not wait to find out what happens in book 6. I like that the book was a quick easy read as it was hard to put down. There are no fillers, so the book moves quickly and has plenty of twists and surprises. It is a great paranormal cozy mystery with some humor and excitement. I’d recommend this book to anyone.
