We Are Voulhire #5

We are Voulhire: The Ascension of Akistry

Rate this book
And so it was that a brief civil war was followed by an uncertain calm. But as the kingdom of Voulhire tried to pull itself back together, Galen Bray was one of very few who acknowledged the suspicion of the respite.

With the church ever in the clutches of an immoral wizard, any opportunity to unseat him would seem immoral to ignore, even if that opportunity were presented by the Emperor of Lullabies himself.

Hidden in Voulhire’s darkest and most dangerous recesses, there lives a prophet from times of old. Once a subject of reverence, years of suppression by the church have banished his legends into obscurity.

But there are those who still remember.

I was born on May 24th, 1989, and raised on Long Island, where I attended a small town public education. My vocational path has taken me down many roads, from retail, to used car sales, to high school security, working in a network or group homes to working as a nighttime patient sitter at my local hospital.

I’m a homebody at heart, though I possess this strange fondness for city life and, like the great H.P. Lovecraft, I have an especially painful attraction to Manhattan (a place which I have lovingly destroyed in several of my stories).

I love people, though I often find I keep them at arm’s length. I love watching people, ruminating on their behavior and building little stories out of my predictions as to what each man or woman I see is going to do next. Most especially, I like to imagine them in different settings, extraordinary settings, and ponder the discoveries of such extreme displacement.

I’ve always believed that chaos is the muse of creation, and a good story is often driven by the choices made in the wake of madness.

The fifth installment to the fantasy series, We are Voulhire: The Ascension of Akistry by Matthew Tysz would be the beginning of the momentous historical turn that would shake Voulhire and change it for what it was.

I started reading this with so much excitement, knowing Akistry would be here. I like that character so much that when I reached the middle, I had the feeling he will die I wanted to smack my head so hard. Then I read the title again and realized how stupid was I not to realize? Akistry deserves the world and as much as I am sad with his death, Im just glad that he was happy and it was meaningful as he protected until the very last breath. His story couldn't be any more beautiful.

As usual it amazes me how the characters work and act and engage with each other. I love the trio's friendship so much and Harper and Nartic's scheming against each other was too amusing.

I was so confused with Demi and Galen in this book though, but despite that I am glad that Demi and Rowan are sincere with their friendship with Galen and that no matter who he is, they will be there to accept him. In the past books, the three's friendship was building up and here we see them face their differences. Truly, a relationship whether it is familial, friendship or conjugal with a person, it isn't only flowers and butterflies; we have to accept their differences and weaknesses as well and help each other be better. And that's what I see with the three of them. If there's anything to ship, it would be their friendship lol.

Galen and Harper. Dear lord, I was glad it did not turn into a cringe ass drama that romance usually has. I'm glad that Galen had seen, decided and acted with resilience. I like Harper's character and I would love to see them be together too but not to to the point where they would disregard their own goals, standards and their own self for it. I hope they won't need to fight against each other.

At this point, I don't really care about the politics anymore (though I never really cared about politics lol) but whoever gets the crown can have it. I cant get over the Emperor of Lullabies.

THAT VOICE. I knew it. I had an 'off' thought when Galen heard 'god's' voice. I seriously doubted it. The Emperor speaks to minds all the time.
That first moment when Galen dreamt of him making him want to get rid of Meldorath I frustratingly wanted Galen not to listen, but considering that he fears him to his very bones I understood his actions. I just wish he told his friends about it as soon as it happened or even after some time. In the previous book when Meldorath 'saved' Soulhire, the Emperor saw him as more than a nuisance but as a threat. He was the only powerful person who can protect Voulhire together with Akistry- or even defeat him. And probably the only reason the Emperor hadnt attacked Voulhire all this time was because Akistry was there. He may be able to manipulate him through 'god's voice' but when it comes to war he knows he cannot fully fight him. And now that he got rid of the two well, all bets were off.

I am as usual anticipating the next book. I wonder what would happen to Galen, unprepared as he is going to Caromentis but since its a place of "minds made flesh" or whatnot, I believe Galen's strong will might be more powerful than Meldorath. Galen knows what he wants but Meldorath is always in search, maybe it would affect them in that world.
Rowan, Demi, Nartik and Harper. I wonder what they will do against such a powerful invasion. And Maido inside that mysterious academy, I wonder if he will affect the salvation of Voulhire against the Big Bad Emperor.

Journey through the Dire Vine Jungle...

Galen decides that Melodrath must be defeated and perhaps the answer lies in the mysterious location where the Miami than Knights had been trained within the Dire Vine Jungle. He therefore asks his companions to go with him, and after some deliberation, Demetrius and Rowan agree. Demetrius has a sense of where to go and so leads them in where he sees the prophet Akistry again. God speaks to Akistry and tells him to challenge Melodrath...
In this book, doubt is cast on several players over how some events have happened-is it incompetence or ulterior motives? There is intrigue, suspense, surprise (may be?) and hints that the importance of Galen has been understated....Religion and mistrust, also feature in an entertaining blend.

Ah, the grim whiff of Onlineb**kclub...

I don't think this dubious website has done you any favours dear Author. The unedifying sight of every reviewer attempting to pivot away from here to Onlineb**kclub's pages in order to pick up a point (points mean prizes!) is telling.

If you have to pay people to read your books, I feel some inner reflection coming on.
