Discovering God

Rate this book
The realization of God is the essence of religion. Realization of God (ma'arifah) is the beginning as well as the end of religion. The position of ma'arifah in God's religion is that of the seed. Just as a seed grows gradually into a full tree, similarly ma'arifah shapes the entire personality of a person. Without ma'arifah, religion is reduced to a spiritless form. With ma'arifah, religion is like a lush green tree and without it, religion becomes like a dried up tree. If religion is the body, ma'arifah is its spirit.

A very detailed and deep book on Islamic spirituality: what it is, what it is not, how to continously develop it, in order to authentically connect with the Creator. The first section is long, the realisation of God, during this section I didn't appreciate the book as it should be appreciated. As I moved through the book, I discovered many pearls of wisdom and now I feel I need to go back to the first long chapter to appreciate it, and digest it better. Although the 5 chapters are long, the first being the longest, they're all broken down into very short bite sized pieces which makes the book very easy to read. As you complete each short segment, you think I'll read another one. The book has repetition of themes and ideas, however that is because they overlap and this is unavoidable, due to the subject matter. Highly recommended for any seeker of truth who wishes to connect with Creator.

Discovering God is a great book regarding God realization and it is not the original book, rather it is the English translation of Urdu or maybe Hindi book.
It takes the reader on the journey of discovering god and shows the importance of reflection and thinking in Islam. It will definitely change the way you think, worship, talk, pray and many other aspects of life. However, I faced some disagreements and technical issues in this book as well (in my opinion):
1- The author believes that the heart is only a blood pumping organ, which I disagree with,
2- I felt that certain topics are repeated too much,
3- I felt that the book is not in perfect order,
4- There are some technical issues in the translation,
