ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Josh Turknett, MD is a board-certified neurologist, migraine sufferer, author of the best selling The Migraine Miracle, and public enemy number one to migraines everywhere.
He has helped thousands with chronic migraine use a holistic approach to end their chronic migraines without pills, and is a frequently sought after speaker on the topic.
Husband, father, neurologist, musician, reader, and writer, among other things.
I love my work as a neurologist, including helping those with neurological illness lead better lives in any way I can. Towards this end, I wrote my first book - The Migraine Miracle - which was published in December of 2013.
I was delighted to hear about Dr. Turknett from a recent podcast. His back story is at once, both ironic and familiar to others who have to come to this path. Dr. Turknett is a Neurologist with a speciality in headaches who was unable to treat his own headaches using the conventional approach. This was until he discovered the power of the ketogenic diet.
As a migraine sufferer myself who came across keto for other reasons (weight loss) the unexpected neurological benefits are quite profound. This short book has a wonderfully detailed explanation of the physiology of how keto affects your body, how there are beneficial changes going on under the surface over time. Dr. Turknett explains the theorized mechanisms but also admits we may not have all the answers yet.
The biggest take home point for me was Dr. Turknett's assertion that keto can be a double edged sword, certain ways to do keto can actually make things worse and he advises a "cleaner" more ancestrally appropriate version. I have noticed this in my own experience as well but couldn't put my finger on it until I read this book.
Lots of helpful information and readily accessible reference points. Not sure that I’m a “keto-girl” with any real intensity, but my diet habits definitely line up more with Keto than Standard American Diet (or SAD, ironically on point), and I’ve definitely seen improvement in migraine pattern and management.
I definitely agree that understanding the principles of Keto and why it helps alleviate migraine are critical aspects of commitment to this type of lifestyle. I’ll never “go back” to SAD way of eating—I know too much, and that’s an excellent thing!
Very good book. I recommend it if you suffer from migraines. (I have experienced classic migraines with aura since I was 17). I have been following a ketogenic style diet for over a year, and I have not had a migraine since then. If you’re already familiar with a ketogenic diet this book is still useful as a means to show you how to streamline your eating habits towards eliminating migraines. The author also has a helpful podcast called The Migraine Miracle Moment and an older book called The Migraine Miracle. Good luck!
I highly recommend this book. It takes 100% commitment, but if you go all in you will have huge results. I have been learning from Josh Turknett since 2013 when he wrote his first book. This book is the next step if you have already read and implemented the steps from the first book and need extra help in dealing with migraine.
Dr. Turknett explains the keto diet for migraines as opposed to other keto diets. It all makes sense. He explains cholesterol and fat and to not be afraid of eating good fats and low carbs. He talks about time window for eating. All of this is migraine related.
Dr Turknett changed my life with his first book. He has a very clear and concise writing style that I learn well with. If you suffer from migraines, follow his simple guidance and watch the magic happen.
Easy read which makes a lot of sense for people who suffer with migraine. I will be implementing the recommendations and I am greatly encouraged to do so by this book. Unfortunately the links to recipes don't work on my kindle whi c h is disappointing.
This book was life changing for me. This book, his previous book, and his podcast reduced my migraines frequency and intensity by about 80%, and so far I've lost 12kg and I'm still losing weight. Everyone with migraines should read this book.
This book talks about principles rather than just rules. It offers enough science so that people do lot get sucked into myths surrounding the keto diet.
A must for anyone who suffers from migraines. Very informative and a useful tool. Nearly didn’t purchase as I thought I wouldn’t get anything out of it but I did
