Simon carr is, well he is me, hello. I write comedy Sci-fi and horror books. I started writing in 2018. I am severely dyslexic, on the very high end of the scale. So, writing a book was just me being defiant really, doing something I ought never to have been capable of doing.

I really enjoyed writing my first book, Space And Stuff, so I carried on writing. That makes it sound a lot simpler than it was, but after a lot of learning and editing; so much editing! And going through proofreaders at a rate of knotts, I got my books to a standard that only made a few grammar Nazis heads explode; so it will have to do.

I am from Blackburn in the UK, born in the summer of 1976. I have actually won three awards for my books, I know! I was as surprised as you are. If perfect grammar is your thing then you might want to give them a miss, but if you like satire and goofy scenarios I might be what you have been looking for.

Rick Toenail is the last remaining sheriff in the universe at a time when war is about to break out. His goal, with the help of his robot companion "Botty," is to keep the universe from actually going to war, and things seem to be going okay until he rescues Gina, who is incredibly feisty, and Rick may have just taken on more than he can handle.

I discovered Simon Carr's work with his novel Noobs (which is hysterical, you should totally read and/or listen to it) and have since been working my way through the other items in his catalog of work. I have yet to be disappointed, as he has a way with words, and his imagination brings to life some extremely imaginative worlds and situations. His sense of comedic timing is also spot on. There were several times in this book that I was laughing so hard, that I was nearly in tears. His British humor is dry and sardonic, though he is not above a well-placed (and sometimes just a placed) fart joke. If that is going to offend you, you probably shouldn't listen or read this book; if, on the other hand, you still like to indulge your inner 8-year-old, then this will probably be right up your alley.

As for the narrator, I initially didn't like James Lawrence. But, as the book went on, I realized that had more to do with 1 specific character than his work as a whole. One character is a serpent, and James leaned into that with the voice, using a voice with extended esses and hissing. Though it fits with the character and was well-suited, I just didn't like it. Other than that one voice, James Lawrence was amazing. His narration pulls you right into the story and doesn't let go until the end, which arrives much more quickly than you realize.

I am definitely looking forward to reading and/or listening to more of Simon Carr's books! Hopefully, I get to listen to James Lawrence narrate another, but even if I don't, I know that whoever is narrating will put their own spin on the novel and it will be good.

The Documented Do’ings of Rick Toenail and Princess Power Space Sheriff
by Simon Carr
Narrated by James Lawrence

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Rick Toenail, the one and only legendary Space Sherriff on his mission to keep Space safe, accompanied by his robot side-kick “ Botty ”. When he rescues Gina, feisty and sassy things take a turn and has he bitten off more than he can chew this time around?

Simon Carr has constructed imaginative fiction with a futuristic concept entwined with humour, complete with quips and kitschy one-liners. If you are aware of the cleverly portrayed TV series ‘Red Dwarf' , then this is like Ace “smoke me a kipper" Rimmer having his adventures written, brilliant! Hilariously corny and cheesy in parts, with a Battle Goose and a Battle Turkey ( what better could you want), it had me in stitches. Another of Simon Carr’s tongue-in-cheek novels is a positive success.

Bringing the audio version to life is James Lawrence. At first, I was undecided if he was a good choice, but as I drew further into the novel, he was ideal for bringing a wide array of cadences and qualities into play.
The Documented Do’ings of Rick Toenail and Princess Power Space Sheriff is an inventive combination with a witty storyline that triumphs over adversity. If you have a sense of humour, want a whoop, or generally need cheering up, snag a copy and dive in. This will unquestionably do the trick!

I rate The Documented Do’ings of Rick Toenail and Princess Power Space Sheriff 5 out of 5 stars.

amazing awesomeness. within a few pages having a fit from giggles, with a few more to follow, requiring a break, a couple or more times. my copy-riddled with errors(again), including autocorrupt changing words, which occasionally just added to it. adult language n themes throughout with british flavor that will offend yer parents, n polite society, with a few fart jokes, most of which aren't totally lame. if you haven't outgrown fart jokes, or if yer not too old fer grown up jokes. this one seems to have something on every page

This is one laugh out loud, gut ranching, hilarious read. Simone Carr is one or those guys that grows on you just like his writing. Prepare yourself for writing that is more like the Mad Magazines cartoons. It is bumpy, it is satire, and it is dry - just what you would expect from a Brit. If you hate comedy than this is not for you. I got this read for free and this review is an honest. Who would want to lie about it!!!!

Simon Carr has written a creative story featuring a space sheriff who stumbled his way through life, with his robot companion. When war started brewing, Rick has to decide what he needs to do about it. I found this story amusing, but sometimes the humor was crude. There was some profanity also. James Lawrence's narration was fantastic and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I was looking for humour but what I got was a poorly written pile of crudeness. I like discovering new, non mainstream or unknown authors to support by reading their work. This story, though, was wasted time. As one reviewer said, “I do not know why people mistake crude for humour”. Wish I had read that before picking up the book.

He is the only sheriff in space and now all hell is about to hit. He has a robot to help but he will need so much more. Can he get that help? Can he stop the war? See how they get on

This is so good! Yet again simon carr has hit it out of the park with this one. This is like a ninja James Bond meets an incestuous monk superhero mashup. This is such a great story and full of laugh out loud gags

What promised to be a humorous story turned out to be so crude, I could not make it through the first chapter. I don't know why people mistake crude for humor, they are very different things.

A space hero whose exploits are successful more by luck than judgement, not always helped by his sarcastic robot sidekick.

This tale of Rick Toenail is a typical example of the kind of output from Simon Carr that manages to enthrall, entertain and make you laugh all at once.
