Grizzly Killer: The Trading Post
In the spring of 1832 Zach Connors and his family have survived another winter in the Rocky Mountains. It was a winter without the supplies they usually enjoyed. In 1828 William Reed built a trading post on the Uintah River, just over the mountains from Zach’s home on Blacks Fork. Reed received supplies from Santa Fe each spring and fall, making his trading post the best source of supplies west of the great divide. This Summer Zach will lead his family over the high passes and into the land of Running Wolf and Shining Star’s birth, but Mother Nature can be a deadly mistress. Violent storms, great Predators, and the Mountains themselves, all conspire against them as they struggle their way over the towering peaks.

Ute Journey
I've enjoyed reading all the Grizzly Killer books, this one has the small group traveling to the Ute lands to a new trading post, as Rendezvous has ended. Coffee and flour are finally had after some adventures.

Lane Warenski - Grizzly Killer - The Trading Post – Reviewed 1/6/19
Finding yourself on the ground after a lightning strike, weak and can’t walk – WHAT HAPPEN????
Zack and his small family are heading to the new trading post for supplies and there is a violent storm! Next thing he knows he finds himself on the ground, and he is weak plus his head really hurts. Jimbo knows that something is wrong when Zack doesn’t react to his licks. He takes off to the camp and brings Running Wolf and Buffalo Heart back to Zack. When they arrive, Zack is unconscious and unresponsive but his heart is beating. After they get him over under a tree and get a fire going, Running Wolf goes back to the camp to send the girls and Raven Wing. They spent a really wet night under the trees but finally by morning Zack comes to and at least he knows they are there. He is still weak and his head hurts but he can get along. After a few days, they continue their trip to the trading post, they can not go without the supplies.
Meanwhile, in another area, another group of men has also had a really rough winter and even an Indian attack that killed some of their men. They similarly are on their way to the Trading post. As they camped one night they are attacked again by two scouts of a large hunting party. They kill one of the Indians and the other, severely injured gets away. The Indians thought the white men would be an easy coup. It did not go the way that they thought it would. When the others of the hunting party find the injured one and he dies, they decide that they will not let the white men get away with this, they will have their revenge.
All of these events lead to a terrible attack at the Trading Post as everyone arrives and the hunting party attack to get their Revenge.
What did I like? Zack, Jimbo, and old Red are among some of my favorite characters. Zack is one of those unassuming men that takes life as it is. He believes as I do, it’s not the color of the skin, the language or background that makes a person who they are. It’s what they do that makes them a friend or not. Jimbo with his loyalty and intelligence is like one of my dogs from my past. The only difference was the size. Old Red reminds me of one of my horses I had years ago. I always thought that the darn horse could read my mind and would do what I was thinking. He was very protective of me and mine as was my dog. Having grown up on the reservation near my parents’ home, I can relate to the daily living and the devotion of family life.
What will you like? My summary above is just a brief outline of the story and does not go into the incredible action. The intricate connections of the groups, and the exact mishaps that happen to them as they all travel to the Trading Post. The new characters are again just awesome! As another author once said, the start is A, the end is B, getting from a to b is all the fun, and I bet Lane had lots of fun writing this one. Some astonishing situations that will have you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath. Other parts will have the tears running down your face. Yet another one will have you so mad you would like to tear something apart, like that darn character!!! Another wonderful read for Lane Warenski, and a good addition to your western library.

Never read a Grizzly Killer story I didn't enjoy, and this one is definitely one of Mr. Warenski's very best renditions. Outstanding story of realistically adventures of our old American western folklore stories, and enough excitement to pacify the most compelling reader's undivided attention from beginning to end!
Definitely another five star western masterpiece by one of the most dedicated author's of realistic old western folklore extravaganzas! Grizzly is one of the most compelling adventurers I have had the privilege to follow. This story is one exciting adventure after the other, and not always involving Grizzly,
Outstanding character selections throughout the entire story, as they continuously fulfilled their assigned roles to perfection. Too, the storylines descriptively represent the action packed story thoroughly and the descriptive action renditions were perfectly selected from beginning to.
Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story of realistic western folklore adventures to all, regardless of your reading pleasure but you western addicted readers will certainly enjoy each and every exciting adventure, as they develop before your eyes throughout the entire story! Not enjoying this compassionate masterpiece will certainly be your loss!😢

Amazing storyline! I simply could not stop reading this adventure. Traveling harsh lands, raging rivers and fighting enemies, were the basic themes of this book. They are high on the side of a mountain, have the dugout for storage and three teepees for living. The wives work on skins, cooking, raising little ones and the men hunt, train horses and prepare for a long trip. I've been anxious about the Trading Post that was new to the west and wondered about the men who ran it. I want to thank the author for his notes of real history and how his literary license fit into this story. It's great writing!

Grizzly Killer series...
If you like reading about mountain men, trappers, Indians and some animals from the 1800's... You should read this series . A teenager and his Pa leave their farm in Kentucky to go West. The Pa is killed by a grizzly bear leaving Zach alone. This series tells of Zach's life as he becomes a man...an extraordinary man. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Wonderful as usual
Again, I couldn't put it down. It's just as good as the others.. I so enjoy these books. I can see the countryside in my mind as it is described. Mr. Wareham is absolutely a wonderful writer, you can see everything through Grizzly Killers eyes. I can picture the beautiful dog with his intelligent eyes and powerful muscles and yet his tenderness with the children.
Ok, I'm ready for the next one.. . .... thank you

This is episode number nine in this exciting and adventurous series. Grizzly and his best friend Running Wild along with their families had spent the spring finding Reeds Trading post. They had several dangerous close encounters with enemy tribesmen and trappers trying to safety find the new trading post. You will not be disappointed with this episode. GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFTS
As much as I love this author's abilities in the outstanding Grizzly Killer Series he has written, I just couldn't keep it to myself. I have since been purchasing several of these books, wrapping them with love, and giving them to my family and my friends for Christmas. I know they will be as happy and excited as I am to read these written treasures of Mr. Lane R. Warenski's outstanding achievement in the literary world.

The Saga Continues
I have truly enjoyed the adventures of Grizzly Killer and his family. I have given each book a 5 star review. But this book seemed to go on and on for pages about every little detail of the trip to the trading post. The characters are all still exciting and believable, but after having trails described to me a couple of times I u derstand, so the following ten do not need to be so descriptive.

Always Exciting Action with Mixture of Good and Bad!
Warenski continues his creative early frontier tales of people from different tribes and races breaking traditions to live and work together peaceably, despite dangerous and sometimes deadly challenges. His well researched factual life styles of early frontier are informative as well as entertaining.

Another step in an epic saga
Ride along with Grizzly Killer while native enemies shoot arrows at you and try to take your hair! Sleep in a teepee and watch the stars at night and listen to the lullabye of the night critters. Sink into a wonderful story spun by Lane and live side by side with his completely believable characters in a land we can only dream about.

Just totally AWESOME
I love this author and these books. Heck I think I even love Grizzly killer and I am sure me and ole Jimbo would get along fine. This book is a bridging novel to me more or less. It sort of sets up this wonderful family for their next adventure. Oh..PS. i hope Clems junk blistered up real real red and hot!!

Another Great Book from The Grizzly Killer Series
Love this series of books and love this story that involves Zach Connor aka Grizzly Killler and his family. In parallel of Grizzly Killers story a group of trappers struggle to reach the same trading post as Grizzly Killer seeks out. This series has action and suspense at each corner.

Interesting novel
Spent a few days in exile reading mountain man stories. I gotta say Zach and his crew weave the fabric for a very realistic read. Enjoyed it, am a little familiar with the area and recognized some of the places by their descriptions. Well done. Looking forward to more stories of Zach, his wives, dogs, and friends as they thrive in the untamed wilderness!

This seems like a narrative of the life and events of Zach(Grizzly killer). While there is no real plot to the story, it makes for interesting reading about the life and times of mountain men of the 1830's era of the Rocky Mountains.

Great series
Wayne , don't stop now , there are lots of Grizzly Killer stories out there just waiting to be told .
I have now read all 9 books, and each and every one was as exciting as the one before, I just couldn't put them down.

Again, Great Reading.
In the past I have tried to get involved in a series over about four installments, and finish them all. Series such as the White Indian series. But somehow the main character would become too much of a god in the books. Not so much with Grizzle Killer .

Another good one
Just like all the other grizzly killer books this one is just as good. I can't say better or worse because each one is a great read. If you are new to them start with the first one. You will never be bored reading them.

My husband and I have read all of the grizzly killer book and have enjoyed them . When I read the story I feel like I am right there with Zach and his family in the Unitas mountains.

Mr. Warenski tells such a good story for the time period. I don’t tire of reading the series and of the growing family. His knowledge of the area and the different tribes is appreciated.

I almost felt like this should have been two different books. The parts with Grizzly Killer and his pack train over Dead Horse Pass was good but short. The trappers story almost seemed added to make the book long enough. Good series not my favourite book.

Excellent!
Good reading, the narrative flows well and the story is good. Attacking a woman is not a good idea in any century, I do like the building a fire punishment, but not accusing the wrong person. Some problems don't go away.

Wonderful
I love these stories. Although a series Warenski is able to keep the stories fresh and full if action. Make me yearn for life in those times. Of course, I very much appreciate our much easier lives today too.

Zack and his family and friends head for the new trading post. Traveling over a high mountain pass to get there. A group of trappers also are heading for the post pursued by a band of Arapaho warriors wanting their scalps. Good book.

Grizzly Killer Series.
This is such a compelling, thrilling and altogether spellbinding series. I cant smell the cook fires and hear the war cries. I feel like I know all of the characters in the series..
I can't stop reading these books.

What amazing writing!
I always thought Zane Grey was the author who could make you feel like you were one step behind him as he wrote about the scenery, but I think this author has won out! Awesome story to add to this series!

Another thrilling tail.
i'm going to miss this series when it's over, but I'd love to keep on reading love Zach and his two wives running wolf and the children and everyone else. So hard to see Redhawk and Meadowlark die.

Excellent four star!
Lane Warenski always writes a very good story. I have read and enjoyed most of his Grizzly Killer series and never found a bad one. I recommend his work.
