Most people run from things that go bump in the night. Not headstrong U.S. Marshal Makala Madigan, she runs toward them. It’s the adrenaline rush when she can capture an escaped serial killer and bring him to justice that keeps her living on the edge.
Even the threats on her life don’t bother her. Very few get under her skin. Until her team brings in James Ingram. He has an uncanny way of finding a woman’s vulnerability, and then torturing her. That case left her with a sour taste in her mouth. Makala knows when she needs a break. Maybe she’s ready for a straight up fugitive and not someone who tortures and kills just because they’re a sick bastard.
So she heads to South Dakota to bring in a fugitive on the run, but quickly discovers just how much Sheriff Gage Dawson doesn’t want her on this case. When she learns the sheriff and the fugitive are cousins, she wonders if Gage will help, or hinder her efforts.
Right now, she has no choice but to use him as her tracker. He knows the Black Hills better than most. But after they go remote into the wilderness, will Gage honor the badge he wears, or will he help his cousin make good his escape? *** When small town sheriff, Gage Dawson’s cousin is sent to prison for a crime Gage is sure he didn’t commit, Gage knows he’s the only one who can right the wrong that’s been done. But before he can help him, Johnny escapes, and a U.S. Marshall is left fighting for his life. Even Gage starts to question his cousin’s motives.
Johnny will be headed home, and it’s up to Gage to bring him in without blood being shed. Except it’s out of his hands when they send a U.S. Marshal to bring Johnny to justice. When he gets his first look at Makala, sparks fly. Gage knows he might be in even bigger trouble as they cross into forbidden territory.
Gage and Makala discover sometimes you can’t change the past, but will it cost one of them their life?
Karen Kelley always had a secret desire to live the life of a Gypsy. So she and her husband quit their jobs, sold their house, decluttered their lives and moved into their 5th wheel RV. Now they're traveling the United States. She works full time on her writing and spends her downtime walking on the beach or hiking in the mountains. Her motto has always been 'Who says you can't have it all.'
Definitely moving on to next book. He's A sheriff, she's A Marshall and they have to track an escaped convict who happens to be Gage's, the hero's, cousin. They camp out and they fall in love on the way. I thought it was kind of goofy the way the had sex while on the trail. They only knew each other for two days or so but it is what it is. I liked her family, all of them cops, sheriffs, etc good guys of course and she is kidnapped by a serial killer and has to be rescued. Very nice story and I liked the epilogue. On to the next book.
a woman who works for the Marshall services and a man who is a local sheriff officer must work together to get a man who escaped from prison. Major issue the escapee is related to the sheriff officer.

5 stars I received a free copy of the romantic suspense novel Broken Justice: Badge of Honor: Book 1 by Karen Kelley and this review was given freely. Suspenseful and action packed with a few twists, a touch of steam, a strong heroine, and both danger and violence culminating in justice served and a love match made. Texas based US Marshal Makala Magdigan continues her unbroken focus on capturing fugitives until an undercover operation in a Texas bar and a mission to South Dakota involving Sheriff Gage Dawson changes everything.

If you want a book with a lot of action with strong women and sexy alpha men this is the story for you. U.S. Marshal Makala Madigan is so tough she can bring in a serial killer with little help. But after she sees the killer put away she feels like she needs to maybe change things up. So she and her team goes to South Dakota to bring in a fugitive in a bank robbery. Sheriff Gage Dawson doesn't believe that Johnny Grey Wolf is guilty. But he plans on bringing him in himself even if they are cousins. And he certainly does not want U.S. Marshals trying to hunt him. He knows the high country like the back of his hand and knows Johnny knows it too. And he thinks the Marshals will only slow him down and get in his way. This is a great action romance. I look forward to more from this author.

Broken Justice is the first book in the Badge of Honor series and is a great start to this new series.
I loved this story about U.S. Marshal Makala Madigan and Sheriff Gage Dawson's adventures on the road to romance. The storyline is well written and captured my attention from start to finish. There is a fugitive on the loose, danger, drama, action, suspense, and a chance for love between two strong, intelligent characters.
I am looking forward to reading more books in this new series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
Chemistry, romance, characters you can fall in love with and a well written story line. The story will have you sitting on the edge of your seat at times and turning the pages to see what happens. Definitely recommend.

This was great book, I really enjoyed reading it and about Makala and Gage. Those two are both strong willed and bullheaded and that makes the story so much better. The way they interact and also show each other emotions really makes this story great. I look forward to reading more from this series and this author overall.

These characters are fantastic. Their dynamic whether a couple, strangers, team, community, family or villain so on point and had this story moving at a swift pace. There were several cases taking place during this book but they worked out in their timeline and purpose quite well.
I don’t have a favorite character because there were several that have me intrigued and ready to read more!
This was poorly done. Boring. It moved from first person to third person, even between paragraphs. So poorly written. Bad grammar. Apparently no proof reading. The story was achingly boring. They hate each other; they have sexual; now they love each other?
This was a very good book and I will recommend her books to anyone who loves romance novels. This was the first book I have read by this author. I will be buying more.
This author has a style that she owns. A great story with characters to fall in love with as they fall in love with each other. Karen Kelley just became one of my favorite authors! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This story snagged you from page one. What a US Marshall has to do is dangerous and sometimes deadly. But it also was a great love story. Mac and Gage had a chemistry from day one. Glad for the happy ending! Great read!
The great plot was well written and the characters were so well developed that as I turned each page the chemistry between the characters kept me totally hooked until the very last page!

I loved this book. I don't typically read romantic suspense, but this is the best one I've read so far. Makala is strong, fierce, independent, and doesn't like to be vulnerable. She is a badass with a loving heart that needs a little glue to be put back together after her mom walked out on her and her father. After taking in a crazy serial killer, she heads to her next case on the opposite side of the country. Completely different from her world, she's tossed into unfamiliar terrain where she meets Gage. Gage's cousin Johnny is the fugitive they are looking for, but he knows Johnny is innocent. He is frustrated by Makala and her team's involvement. What could this pretty city girl do in the rough winter woods of South Dakota but slow him down? Well Makala is a fighter and will prove him wrong, she's not just a pretty face. Gage is fiercely loyal and protective, he likes to be in charge. When a series of unfortunate events starts to impact the team, we watch as they learn to trust eachother and not always judge a book by it's cover. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but seriously give this book a try. You definitely won't regret it, it kept me hooked and sacrificing sleep to get to the end. Includes a HEA ❤
