This is not a great shoujo manga, but far superior to most else Kayoru produces. I always felt that, despite really enjoying Kayoru's art, she either leaned far too much into the cute but unrealistic and brainless side of shoujo, or her stories were very problematic and overly sexualised given the genre and the cute style. Sense, Shimekiri made Matte is the first work of hers where I feel that she has found some kind of balance and things fit together much better.

Although there are a few sexual themes, it's not the centre of the story and largely harmless and just mostly just gets alluded to. As such, art and topic feel much more appropriate together. There are a few plot points and clichés that require you to put aside your disbelief, but that kind of comes with the shoujo territory. Some of these things include teenage mangaka (not to say they don't exist, I just don't buy that they're all coincidentally attending the same school and the like), too many coincidences for that matter and and the whole rivals fighting for the girl just to keep the romance between the main couple fresh. If you can look beyond that, it's a pretty entertaining story with cute art.

Our female lead is a big manga fan but tries to keep it a secret because she used to get bullied over it. I appreciated how that did flow into the story a bit and it was nice to see like minded characters come together for their hobbies and interests. The male lead starts off a bit extreme but he's probably one of the nicest Kayoru has delivered this far. Both are new to relationships and are both a bit awkward about it in their own way. In a way, it makes these two a much more wholesome and cute couple with little to non of the problematic themes I usually associate with this author's other works.

Although the main part of the series focuses around the romance, I do think there was decent time given to include other characters (especially some much needed female friends) as well as the manga and anime industry. You won't find anything new in this series but if you like shoujo art styles, I'd recommend this series over any of this author's previous works. It's far from perfect, but it's entertaining if you enjoy this genre.

Die Geschichte mitsamt dem Zeichenstil haben mir gut gefallen! Sie steht auf den veliebten Mangaka und ist total happy, als sie ihm assistieren darf. 😅 Das ist alles total niedlich dargestellt und ich bin gespannt auf den Fortgang ihrer Beziehung zueinander. Deshalb werde ich mir den nächsten Teil definitiv noch holen. 😊

Ok, jetzt habe ich alle Bände von Kayuro, die Tokyopop auf Deutsch veröffentlicht hat! Und ich werde sie lesen, indem ich von der kürzesten Serie beginne.

Ich mag die Heldin nicht so viel, aber der zweite Junge scheint viel interessanter als Subaru su sein.

Und, ça va sans dire, ich liebe Kayoru Zeichenstil.

Dies ist mein erster Manga von Kayoru. Die Geschichte an sich ist echt süss, aber manchmal nerven mich die etwas übertrieben Reaktionen von Ichika. Teilweise weiss man auch nicht, war das jetzt echt oder wieder eine Träumerei Ihrerseits?
