Book 1 on sale for limited time only!! With Satan back in hell, Alex hoped to keep a low profile and enjoy some downtime with his girls. But then angel's begin to die. The threat of all out war between the two races is closer than ever before. But Alex has more pressing matters, apparently. A rebellion has broken out in hell. The demons are intent on toppling Satani and freeing her older, more evil brother, Satan.
So, Alex is on his way to hell to stop the rebellion. Some shocking truths are revealed, and once more, Alex is forced to question his role in all of this.
The Devil's Apprentice: Descent to Hell follows a similar theme set in book one. It contains explicit sexual descriptions that have elements of harem and light bondage/BDSM themes. They are not gratuitous, but help in setting the darker theme of the world Alex is thrown into.
This book will appeal to urban fantasy fans that enjoy Brent Weeks/Brandon Sanderson books, but with an adult theme.
For what this book is (urban fantasy with a lot of sex) it has some good points, but they are largely overwhelmed by how much of an idiot the MC is. I understand the "fish-out-of-water" learning curve, but this guy is just a douche, the voice in his head is right. For my money, the MC would never have survived his first real fight, and definitely none of the several following ones where he freezes in the middle of the action.
This is a cardinal sin in a book for me: make the MC unlikeable. He seemed to have improved by the end, but it was a painful experience getting there. The supporting characters were what carried him (and the story) to that point, but it definitely lowered my overall experience of the book.
First of all the tittle is completely missinforming, there is no apprenticeship in here, and we don't see enough of the Devil either, oh it shows here and there but it does nothing for the plot. Either way this book does have an interesting word building, and it could have created good characters. But the details on the novel betray the plot. They are there but don't mesh well with what the author is trying to portray. For example the Demon Hunters are supposed to be an organization to police Demons on earth, but they don't act like an organized entity at all, is like the devil took anyone willing to sell their soul made an upgradde on their body and cut them loose on earth to do as they wish, not what they should, I am surprised there haven't been more incidents before MC shows up. Besides I have to ask myself if the villains got a discount on V-necks on this universe, every male that was antagonist to Alex at some point was wearing a V-neck, I even thought Satan would show up from his prison in one as well. It is a good read, but not as great as it could.
Definitely a different twist on an old story. I will read book two. Just because I can't let it end on a cliffhanger. Read the blurb and make your own decision
This book has a great premise. Patrick appears to be a good writer, but he needs a better editor. There are a couple of spots where action looses focus or he puts a character in two places or used the same name for both characters. Made it a little hard to track. I did like that his protagonist doesn't really come into his full potential until the final scene. Good change of pace from you normal harem lit where the bad ass-ness starts early and gets outrageous by the end.
This book has anew twist to an old time story line. The author has added new character s with new powers, and new motives. This book was hard to put down, and is well worth reading.
I would suggest you give this book a try. It has a bit of everything. Hot, sexy women. Demons. Angels. Amazing swords. Great battles. Plot twists that aren't obvious. Hot, sexy women. What's not to like??
